As the patriotic american im sure you are Chris.. surely you can appreciate that if this kind of logic was followed, America would be no better than the “racial middle eastern country” in question? where is tha love!!

It’s been years since I saw a board as polarized as this one. “Liberals all suck and should die.” “Right-wingnuts have no soul and are already dead.” “He broke my dolly!” “She took my lollipop!”

Let’s give the kindergarten antics a rest, shall we?

Just to clear the air a bit, the “Christians” that you hear about most of the time are the nauseatingly vocal minority, and in this one man’s opinion are not, technically, Christians at all. Anyone can call himself a Christian. There is no entrance exam. Does it not say that you will know them by their fruits? Most of us are a good bit more laid back, and I daresay most of us take our Lord’s commands to love and do good to others seriously. My favorite OT verse is from Micah: “You have seen, O Man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to do justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God?” That works for me. Humility seems conspicuous by its paucity these days, especially in the current Administration.

A couple of topics got mentioned that quite often “get my back up” as the saying goes around here. I’d like to address them, if I may.

#1 – Gun control: bad idea. As was pointed out somewhere above, the whole point of the 2nd Amendment was to safeguard the other Amendments. While I do not own a gun myself, I strongly support the rights of any law-abiding citizen to protect himself. There were well over a hundred million people murdered by their own governments in the 20th century, and, amazingly, not a single gun-ban proposal would take guns from the government and give them to the victims.

#2 – Gay marriage: Not a problem. The fact that the gay community so vehemently works for this goal simply means that they recognize it as the gold standard, just as do most heterosexuals. If a gay or lesbian couple wants to form a life-long relationship (and a LOT of them do) it would seem to me the sensible thing to do to make it all nice and legal. Of course, there are other instruments that can accomplish the same thing, but it’s a total hassle to have to jump through all those hoops when a simple decree of marriage will suffice.
(If there is anything that represents a threat to marriage, it is the easy availability of divorce, not gay couples wanting to formalize their love for each other. I mean, get a life, people.)
And please, let’s not hear any more about how homosexuality is some sort of “willful perversion”. Sexual orientation is largely determined by the concentration of certain hormones in the womb. One’s early upbringing may have an impact on when and how this manifests in an individual, but the vast majority of gays are gay because they were born that way. As a friend of mine so pithily put it one time, “Choice? Are you nuts? Do you honestly think anyone would choose this lifestyle?”

You served as a diversion when I didn’t feel like filling out certain tax-related documents. However, now that they’re done and in the mail, I have better things to do than debate a guy who is for a totalitarian one-party state.

You realize that if you get your wish: “all Liberals should be sent to Gitmo” that the US will have completed its transformation into a FASCIST State, and become just like Communist Russia and China?

In Stalin’s Russia, anyone who disagreed with the party in control could be sent to the Gulags (Prisons) never to be heard from again. No Lawyers, no due process. This is what you want America to become? What’s next, gas ovens for the traitorous Liberals?

Funny how those furthest to the right are not distinguishable from the fascist Nazis.

What really gets me about these so-called “conservatives” who say these things is:

Why aren’t they bothered by Bush running our country into the ground? America has been hurt and damaged in so many ways by the Bush administration. Do they not see it, or not care?

And Coulter’s book is already being discounted, while supposedly number 1 (A lot of the “sales” already go to her friends, who buy up the book to help it to get to “number one.” I have even been offered a free copy on one website.) Incidentally, you’ve never explained how a gay prosititute, advertising his services at $200/hour, got into the Bush White House several times even when no press conferences were being held. Talking about perversions–not to mention felony!

As I wrote earlier, Chris favors a totalitarian one-party state. Let’s ignore him/her. There is no sense arguing with a person who sees everyone who doesn’t agree with him/her as “commies” ‘even though no one here has called for the end to private property) and who accuses us of the very things he/she is doing: interpreting the Constitution in his/her own narrow way.

oh and not all liberals should go to guantanamo, some could go to france or canada, oops excuse me Canada just elected a conservative PM , or maybe they could just get their shit together and become Americans.

I agree with Bruce on this statement. It’s a sad thing, but there are armies of people like Chris in America today who have no understanding of democratic principles. A troll is someone who tries to disrupt something for the sake of disrupting it. Chris actually believes what he’s saying and millions of Americans share his views. They spew anger and hatred at everything.

They have limited vocabularies consisting of five caveman words, interspersed between every third word, used to describe anything they don’t understand: liberal – commie – leftie – bastard – asshole.

They also use several stock phrases to express their crippling fear of being disagreed with: anti-American – anti-Bush – haters of America – terrorist lovers.

Their frightened state becomes apparent when you realize that there isn’t a single American freedom, nor a single aspect of the American way of life they wouldn’t sacrifice to terrorists, if it only means that the one in 7,000,000 chance they have of being blown up by a terrorist bomb is lessened. Wow! Troops are sacrificing their lives and the best thing these people can do is to sacrifice our freedoms and our entire way of life. This must be why they never stop talking about “supporting the troops” but never actually sign up to help fight the war. Frightened people!

As a girl, I kind of wonder about men who invest so much energy in trying to talk tough. I mean, do genuinely tough people need to prove it? Not!
