There need to be rules that prevent people from doing this for a long time. The DHS is only a few years old.

  2. TheyLied says:

Nice to see that even our own “Homeland Security” is not held above the great American values of cronyism, no-bid contracts and the like.

The American system needs an enima!!

  3. Hardy Haberman says:

The Bush Administration is the training ground for corporate execs of the future, the kind Enron had!

  4. AndrewL. says:

One of them, Asa Hutschinson, is running for governor of Arkansas.

He turned a $2k investment into a $1 million investment by lending his DHS credentials to some penny-stock company with no other assets.

This happens in all sorts of cases and is completely normal. Whether it is good or not is another thing, but this is how the corporate world functions. The corporates always try to get some big shot names who have been inside government previously to be a consultant and things like that. This isn’t about the Bush administration, this is about how the corporate world operates.

With that said, what should be do about this if anything? Make it illegal for former government employees to take jobs as consultants for companies who has the government as a client? That would put quite a few people out of jobs, from both sides of the aisle. The typical thing that happens after people leave government spots is that they get swept into the corporate world as consultants.

If I were a company, I know I would do the same thing. Why not get a guy who has been on the inside of the client to consult for me? Makes perfect business sense.

  6. Cyra Brown says:

A “Homeland Security” report catalogues multiple failures within that department to form ANY sort of an ‘emergency response system’, for ANY situation that could befall us. But the “business end” of DHS is a HUGE success!! Given the ‘personal’ knowledge of how the Department works, former employees are clearly the ideal representatives for the “domestic security industry”. But the companies that are furiously competing for those ‘no-bid’ contracts, do not appear to be living up to their end of the bargain. Gosh, I get this feeling of ‘Deja’Vu’ here… hmmm. So why are we paying them for being incompetent? Cause that is how BushCo likes it. “BushCo-National Security, maybe, possibly, someday, because WE CARE ABOUT YOU!!”

  7. Marie says:

To paraphrase Mel Brooks, “It’s good to be (connected to) the king.”

  8. AndrewL. says:

A Senator named Truman once made his name investigating foolishness in WWII defense contracts.

Today, the ethic seems to be: well it’s good for business!

What needs to be the standard is, are we getting out money’s worth in public services in exchange for all this alleged expertise?

    No! we are not.

  9. Jay Randal says:

Nothing surprises me because almost everyone who goes to DC becomes a whore eventually > sad but true!

  10. DieNowForPeace says:

It’s known as a conflict of interests, whether it benefits a company or not, it’s WRONG.

A Corporate Government (Fascism) is not and will never be a Government for the people, by the people. Are you used to it yet, cause it’s not going to go away without a Revolution…

  11. Sharon Cox says:

I agree, Die for peace, that’s why I have my food, water, gun’s and amo ready. My question to the majority of sleeping americans is ” what will it take for you to wake up and fight for your freedom here at home”?……….Any ideas on this one, anyone, all…..???Blessings

  12. Zookeeper says:

Government employees should not be allowed to take a job in the private sector, in the same field as their government job, for two years.

As DieNowForPece said, it’s a conflict of interest.

  13. lyn says:

They make an easy profit off our nation’s dead. Collectively, a well-informed public can put so much fire on their behinds they wouldn’t dare pinch another blood-tainted dollar off us.If we EVER get our act together.

  14. Jeffrey Stewart says:

The merging of corporate and government interests? Hello fascism!
