Something tells me that Shrub would just as soon perforate the Constitution—just a “goddamn piece of paper,” after all—and put it on a roll. This man and everyone connected to him are criminals through and through.
That mouth-breather doesn’t give a rat’s butt about the American flag. The fascist pig uses it daily to wrap himself in it while raping taxpayers and our cherished values.
(g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.
For the trolls out there. Both “George” and “Bush” are words and a signature is an insignia. Plus, all of the words are made up of letters. If he followed up his signature with a smiley face, that would be a picture.
Ohhhhhhhh! this doesn’t count, his side line signing on the amendment say’s it ok for bush to do it… Remember.? That would be # what? signing statements….
Let’s see, Tobey…..the Toyota plant in Kentucky has been there for 20 years. The plants in Indiana and West Virginia have been around 10 years. There is also a plant in San Antonio, Texas – Shrub’s home state. Not much of an argument, is it.
As for desecrating the flag, I’m sure since he’s the “Great Decider”, he’s written and signed an Executive Order allowing him to bypass Title 4 of the U.S. code. Either that, or it’s been included in another of his signing statements.

Tobey Shorthairs needs to get his facts together. He’s probably one of those redneck Americans who is still pretending his GM or ford was made in the USA instead of Canada or Mexico.
Correct me if I’m wrong, Tobey, but in this past November (2005) General Motors announced that will eliminate 30,000 jobs and close nine North American assembly, stamping and powertrain plants by 2008. Not to be outdone, Ford Motor Co. announced in January of this year that it plans to close 14 manufacturing plants in North America and cut between 25,000 to 30,000 jobs by 2012. Both companies are still planning to expand their plants in Mexico, however.
By contrast, Toyota has been steadily building a number of plants here in the good old USA: Fremont, California; Huntsville, Alabama; Princeton, Indiana; San Antonio, Texas; Georgetown, Kentucky; Buffalo, West Virginia; Long Beach, California; and plans to build another huge factory in Texas by 2009.
Tobey, if you are going to keep your head in your ass, you will need a plate glass window for your stomach. And might I also suggest that if you REALLY want to buy American, you should consider a toyota or honda, dipstick.
The fact that Bush is defacing the flag shows that he really doesnt give a rats ass about protecting the flag. It really doesnt matter how old the photo is. As mentioned by many before, the flag burning issue is just a desperate attempt to wear the balls of his political base on his chin.

Yes, but it is so much more. It is what it stands for and represents that makes it so. The Declaration of Independence is more than a piece of paper. A redwood more than a tree. A mortally wounded and dying soldier more than just a number mentioned on the evening news.
The American flag, and may God bless it always, is representative all of us. Perhaps the next time we take in a football game and stand and sing the National Anthem as we face the flag, we might reflect a little deeper on its meaning.

So what do you drive? A Chevy built in Mexico, Canada, or Korea? A Ford built in Mexico? Maybe a Saturn VUE with a Honda engine? Or a German-owned Dodge or Chrysler also built in Mexico?
I’m not sure this is what you mean but your posts suggest that you think there should be a flag protection law because the U.S. flag is more than cloth. “The” Constitution and “the” Declaration of Independence need to be protect as historical documents, just as specific U.S. flags of historical note should also be protected. But if I want to buy my own flag or copy of the Constitution and burn it to symbolize something about this country, I have that right by “the” Constitution. That right is more important than any object, including I would dare say an original, signed copy of the Constitution or Betsy Ross’ flag itself. If this is what you mean by “more than cloth”, etc then we are in full agreement.
Oh, I see that Tobey is in the UK. OK. Fine. For anyone who agrees with his “you aren’t patriotic unless you drive an American car,” maybe you can answer for him.
I live in the Detroit area and would NEVER buy a ‘foreign’ car. When I went shopping for a new car last month for my daughter I first looked at a PT Cruiser only to learn that it contains ‘35% Canadian and U.S. parts’ and was assembled in Mexico. I went to the Honda dealer and found that the Accord is ‘70% Canadian and U.S. parts and was assembled in Marysville, Ohio. I bought my first ‘foreign’ car. Get a clue Tobey.

No, we are in full agreement. WHile I love the flag for “which it stands” and consider myself a progressive patriot (and sometimes a rightwing conservative dipshit), I do not support a flag burning amendment. To burn it in protest is very poor taste, however. A more suitable item of protest that could be burned to make a point is a copy of the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence.
I mean, I would prefer we burn one of George Bush’s old college cheerleading sweaters instead and REALLY piss off his supporters.
The American flag, and may God bless it always, is representative all of us. Perhaps the next time we take in a football game and stand and sing the National Anthem as we face the flag, we might reflect a little deeper on its meaning.

Yes, but as TP pointed out several days ago, a study found that in a nearly 200 year period, there were all of 44 incidents in the U.S. of someone burning a flag. Hardly a crisis.
Unless we are invaded and overcome by a foreign country who then rounds up the hundreds of thousands of flags that surely exist in this country and destroys them, the flag isn’t going anywhere.
I’d hate to think what pus*ies we Americans are if we put so much reverence in a piece of cloth that the destruction of it means the destruction of this great country and the ideals it stands for. We might as well give it up now. The seeds of freedom and independence that so many thirsted for that led to the Revolutionary War and the Declaration of Independence were sown long before we had the “American” flag. Why, according to Wikipedia, at the time of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776, the most commonly flown flag was the Grand Union Flag; this flag had the same 13 red and white stripes, but the original British Union Flag was in the corner where the stars are currently located.
you all harp on about patriotism and drive round in Toyotas UHH
The theory on economics is
A lighter cost say 10 cents in China to make and sells for a dollar in the US
90 cents are profit for american companies great
But 10 cents times millions of lighter = a budget deficit to China
Apply the same to Toyota cars , OK manufactured in the USA but the profit is still Toyotas and therefore goes back to that country and I bet the guys at the top get loads of wages etc etc
Good for you, stram! And don’t forget that PT Cruiser you were shopping for was built by a German-owned Chrysler Corporation. Nothing wrong with that, mind you, but one thing that I like to point out to the “Buy American” crowd.
It burns me up when people try to equate the brand of car they buy with patriotism. One of the questions I’ve been wanting to ask these folks is this:
How do you feel about General Motors desire to sell cars in Japan? Remember the Chevy Cavalier rebadged as a Toyota and sold at Toyota dealers in Japan? How about Saturn’s failed attempt at selling cars in Japan? Are you also going to cheer the Japanese consumer for remaining patriotic and not buying a foreign car, thus damaging American companies’ efforts at increasing sales in the global market? Are you going to encourage the Chinese consumer not to buy a Buick, which to them is a foreign car and is reportedly one of the hottest nameplates in China?
OK manufactured in the USA but the profit is still Toyotas and therefore goes back to that country and I bet the guys at the top get loads of wages etc etc
Comment by Tobey Tall
Go make that arguement to the guys in Detroit, St. Louis, and Atlanta. My guess is they would beat the shit of you.
Come on now folks, we all know that if Bush does it, it’s legal. Period. He’s the decider. As Archie Bunker (a perfect example of the Bush base) would say “Case closed’”
GM started using Japanese steel in the 70’s, the electronics and wiring for American verhicles are made in Asia also. Probably other parts too. It’s all a world market now.
And as far as to where the profits for a company go, the company of Toyota is better to the planet than American companies. I would support Toyota over GM or Ford any day. The CEO’s for American car companies are far more arrogant and greedy than the Toyota leaders are, thats why Toyota is poised to take over as the leader.
#51 – Archie Bunker, a perfect example of the Bush base?
1. Archie Bunker is a fictional character.

if i remember correctly, republicans spearheaded the end of slavery. and unless i’m misinformed, Bush has put a lot of minority people in very high places, moreso than any recent democratic president. but now that i think about it, those people must be traitors to their race, as opposed to humans who are allowed to think differently than the status quo (or how the left says they should think).
oh, but to be on topic. the flag he’s signing does not constitute a flag in the truest sense of the word. it is not something that flies officially over buildings. i mean, come on. that’s like saying if i make a little flag out of a piece of cloth it is an official american flag.
There is a flag law book that states if a U. S. Flag is tattered or ruined it will be burned. When it is in the hands of our enemies, I consider it ruined and when they burn it, I laugh, because they don’t realize that is what should be done and they are handling our flag as a ruined flag should be handled……..Burn It!
