Bush on Russia.

By Faiz Shakir on Jun 23rd, 2006 at 3:20 pm

Bush on Russia.

From today’s White House press briefing — QUESTION: “As the president begins to do his homework leading up to the Russia trip, what are his current feelings about Putin? Does he remain a trustworthy friend or has he evolved to something else?” SNOW: “First, he has not ‘begun’ to do his homework.”

UPDATE: Snow’s remark was misinterpreted. In fact, he was arguing that Bush does his homework all the time. Snow said, “First, he has not ‘begun’ to do his homework, he does it all the time, and especially in dealing with Putin and with the Russians.” We regret the error.

What do you expect from a C student/cokehound?

  2. Wayne A. Schneider says:

“First, he has not begun to do his homework.”

Why do I get the feeling that Bush’s mother has said the exact same thing at least once in her life?

  3. GG says:

All Shrub needs to know is in Putin’s eyes.Twinkle ,twinkle

  4. Juan C says:

First, he has not begun to do his homework
You are really helpful, Snow. You make us laugh so hard.

  5. dumbstruck says:

Snow could have hit that one out of the park – if he wasn’t a dumbass.

  6. Krazny says:

man Tony snow is the best, he either is trying to make fun of the white house, and make people feel at ease, or has a real case of foot in mouth syndrome. He is way more fun then scotty.

  7. Badmoodman says:

SNOW: “First, he has not begun to do his homework.”
    Reporter: “Why not?”
SNOW: “Because he didn’t want to.”

  8. Jane E. Schneider says:

I suppose that we could have expected that Bush hasn’t begun to do his homework. He certainly never seemed to try to learn anything about anything! But who’d'a thunk Snow would actually come out and SAY it?

  9. Calm, Flaccid Insurgency of '95 says:

    Zawahiri, Pediatrician

Bush, cheerleader, drug addict, did not serve

Americans fighting eachother while Osama laughs. A damn shame.

  10. Babs Bush says:

Didn’t do your homework W? NO TENNIS FOR YOU!!!
You’ll just have go with the gut.

  11. kindness says:

I know i’m going against the grain here…bare with me, please.

I am happy to see the WH Press Secretary finally say something that is candid AND honest.

Let’s hope he keeps up the good work and keeps his job in doing so.

Snow also told Helen Thomas to “Stop Pestering the Teacher.”

    Nice.

  13. Mark Howard @ News Corpse says:

I expect that the White House will shortly issue a correction explaing that:

Bush did, ifn fact, do his homework, but that Barney ate it.

It’s OK, if he botches the test with Outin, he’ll be able to do a make up test on Saturday.

  14. dlet says:

It’s not that he DIDN’T want to do his homework. It’s just that he DECIDED not to. Remember he’s the decider no the non-doer.

  15. Calm, Flaccid Insurgency of '95 says:

This is alittle off topic, but god I hate Democrats.
I can’t believe they let it get so out of hand.
Dems should have dismantled these pukes with creative communication

    A LONG TIME AGO

  16. Jane E. Schneider says:

There you are, trueblue! Glad to see you today!

  17. David says:

Hey ThinkProgress, why’d you exclude the rest of the statement? Yeah, W is a moron, but at least print the entire sentence, not just the portion you wish to highlight.

What are trying to do, ape drudge?

  18. benson says:

MR. SNOW: First, he has not “begun” to do his homework, he does it all the time, and especially in dealing with Putin and with the Russians. Look, the President and President Putin have a pretty good working relationship. They talk regularly, they talked last week.

  19. Godfry Daniel says:

“…he has not “begun” to do his homework…”

That would require him to finish reading “My Pet Goat” first. He still hasn’t handed in his book report.

  20. Randy says:

This site is nothing but a bunch of pathetic losers who nothing better to do but post comments on how much they hate Bush. Doesn’t that get boring after a while? If I were a sponsor to TP, I would be sadly disappointed on how new ideas are actually generated here. What are you going to do after Bush is no longer president? I guess you’ll just have to start bashing the next Republican administration that follows him.

  21. bushllit says:

hopefully part of his homework involved lessons in how to properly read one’s eyes, or else we are in a heap of trouble…

  23. trueblue says:

    Hi Jane,
    Thanks for missing me!

Sent you a note. I really appreciated your post.

  24. Jay says:

I expect more from you ThinkProgress! You’ve taken this quote out of context by leaving out the rest of the sentence and by omitting the quotation marks on “begun”. Bush and his crew are huge enough idiots that you don’t have to pull sneaky stuff like this to get that point across. Why lower yourselves that way? Makes me question all the other posts that I’ve not had the time to check the original documents on.

  25. trueblue says:

He also told Helen Thomas to stop “heckling” him, Jay.

This guy is a complete idiot. And I did provide the link to that above.

  26. Adam says:

I am totally disappointed with your decision to only publish the first part of that sentence by Mr. Snow. You completely mispresented the statement with not-so-clever editing. This type of mendacious posting is what I expect from Drudge and Malkin, but not here at TP. This site is better then that, and shouldnt need to resort to that nonsense.

  27. chaz says:

Homework what homework. Shrub wants to cut the Russians in on Iran and they are not going for it because they already have a decent relationship with Iran. That was why Cheney, few weeks back, insulted the Russians with talk of backpeddling on Democracy, darth Cheney was pissed. Putin said NYET to Cheney and Shrub ! I guess they need to up the ante.

  28. dumb lying pug says:

Looky, looky at all the fake troll posts.

  29. Tim says:

Aren’t there more than enough quotes to nail Bush/Snow with, without deliberately leaving out the whole quote to make it seem like Snow is saying Bush never did any homework? From the link:

MR. SNOW: First, he has not “begun” to do his homework, he does it all the time, and especially in dealing with Putin and with the Russians.”

  30. bushllit says:

Its Friday, y’all can’t we be a little casual?

I guess not, lets talk about the column from yesterday talking about attacking, Iran – check.

Let’s talk about the President representing the minority in his actions regarding Iraq, and how this is being supported by more and more influential people – check (& check)

How about talking about how the WH is favoring a news outlet that pats them on the back, while banning all others – check

Lets talk about the last lefty announcement to leave bush’s cabinet – check

Or, we can talk about a whole host of issues reported in this mornings paper – check

I don’t know, Randy, if you aware that this is a progressive site, it seems those here that run it thought it was obvious and those coming here to post comments will understand the perspective and POV they take on the current administration…since you feel that way why don’t you go to another site, or is your life so pathetic that you have to run around to sites where you know you will disagree with them and whine…I feel, Bush is an idiot…Tony Snow is an idiot, & when Snow starts speaking on behalf of Bush the stupidity increases exponetionally

  31. paul says:

Hell, Rove just got pardoned … umm, let off the hook. Whaddya expect? Gotta celebrate.

  32. Wayne A. Schneider says:

I guess you’ll just have to start bashing the next Republican administration that follows him.

    Comment by Randy — June 23, 2006 @ 4:16 pm

If we’re successful in our efforts, Randy, there won’t ever BE another Republican administration because we will have shown the country why it’s not in their best interests to let Republicans control things. Especially Republicans who think that businesses do and should have more rights than people.

And, for the record, there are other political parties besides the Democratic and Republican ones. Personally I prefer one of the alternative choices (you believe in choices, right?) in charge of the Congress and the country. I don’t believe that either of the two major parties has our interests at heart.

  33. kindness says:

no shit! Apparently we have some dumb bastards who don’t think any of us have ever seen cut and paste jobs by “sock-puppets”.

You don’t know what a sock puppet is? google it.

  34. Zookeeper says:

Snowflake is losing his charm. He’s going to acquire Scottie’s bald head and paunch soon. *evil laugh*

  35. trueblue says:

    Wayne,
History tells us there was a time when anyone could be President.
Now you must be a white (male) millionaire willing to sell out.
Sad, now, that those with the passion to do the job aren’t afforded the opportunity.
We need to have election reform, I think.
Get a better “class” of people.

  36. squegeeboo says:

Nothing like taking it out of context for the cheap political jab TP

    Heres the full sentence
First, he has not “begun” to do his homework, he does it all the time, and especially in dealing with Putin and with the Russians.

  37. Randy says:

If we’re successful in our efforts, Randy, there won’t ever BE another Republican administration because we will have shown the country why it’s not in their best interests to let Republicans control things.

Yep, thats a good strategy alright. Tell me again, how many democratic presidential got more than 50% of the popular vote in the 40 years? Carry on!

  38. bushllit says:

we can keep looking for alternative choices, and the neo-cons will stay in power, it sucks, but this country cannot survive the greedwhores…in a perfect world I would have I would never want, in a great world democracy would trump capitalism, in bush’s world, we must try and survive…if there is an election in 08, im voting dem, even if it means hillary (((shudders)))

  39. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    trueblue,

I agree completely. We must reform the way we elect our leaders. It’s a sad truth that the person best qualified to run for president is often not the best person to be president. Campaigning today requires none of the important skills and temperment that a good president needs to govern effectively for the entire country (as opposed to the ones in his party.) Neither of the two major parties chooses a candidate who would best run the country; they choose the candidate who can win an election, and that isn’t necessarily good for us.

We need election reform and we need campaign finance reform. People need to look hard at candidates from other parties. If we keep fooling oursleves into thinking it has to be one of those two, then we’ll never be rid of those self-serving bastards.

  40. Randy says:

    #40

I agree with you that we desperately need real campaign finance reform. McCain-Feingold has created more problems than it has solved. I really think the time has come for term limits, public funding for campaigns, among other changes. How do we get this done?

  41. Wayne says:

41–I really think the time has come for term limits, public funding for campaigns, among other changes. How do we get this done?

    Comment by Randy

Well look at the republicans that you stick up for. They promised all those things, did they keep them once they were in power? No

It is simple, the republicans have lied to you for years Randy, explain to me why you still stick up for them and defend them?

  42. Dave M. says:

Hey TP, I love this site and I read it every day, but I have to admit, you need to issue a correction on this one..

  43. bushllit says:

    Fooling ourselves????

like in 2000, with nader, great leader, ads paid by gop, and a % of gore votes were lost

  44. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Sorry, Randy, but term limits are un-democratic. I’m not saying that Republicans and Democratics shouldn’t be allowed to run for office. I just think that too many people in this country believe that they have to choose one or the other. This is why we keep ending up with 98% of the bunch we currently have. Besides, if you put them all on term limits, voter turnout will sink to even lower levels as people won’t go to the polls to vote out someone who won’t be there much longer no matter what they do.

Public financing could be good. Another option is to restrict campaign contributions to individuals (not groups and not corporations) from the state or district where the candidate is running. If you don’t even live in my state, let alone my congressional district, then why should you be allowed to influence my representation in Congress? (Or me influence yours?) I call this plan “Indistrict Financing.”

  45. Seixon says:

Oooops. That’s what you get for putting your brain before the carriage.

  46. Zookeeper says:

re UPDATE: he does it all the time

I can’t believe he’s still catching up on his homework. ;)

Snark aside, Snowflake gets demerits for disrespecting Helen Thomas.

  47. benson says:

Thanks for fixing the post. :)

  48. FLAVIUS WORFEUS says:

Gee. What a great communicator Tony Snow turned out to be.

He is so clear. So precise.

    :|

  49. Cyra Brown says:

“He does his homework all the time.” Yeah, sure he does. Except for those things that he is “kept in the dark about”. He sure did his homework before attacking Iraq, didn’t he? No one is saying that he did it correctly, either. Bet he got an ‘F’ on it. And previously, Bush thought his ’soul searching’ gaze into Putins’ eyes was all he needed to assess his qualities as a world leader he could work with. Turned out that Putin COULD hide his “lying eyes”. Or Bush used an incredibly stupid method of making an important judgement call. Or both.
