“He does his homework all the time.” Yeah, sure he does. Except for those things that he is “kept in the dark about”. He sure did his homework before attacking Iraq, didn’t he? No one is saying that he did it correctly, either. Bet he got an ‘F’ on it. And previously, Bush thought his ’soul searching’ gaze into Putins’ eyes was all he needed to assess his qualities as a world leader he could work with. Turned out that Putin COULD hide his “lying eyes”. Or Bush used an incredibly stupid method of making an important judgement call. Or both.

Sorry, Randy, but term limits are un-democratic. I’m not saying that Republicans and Democratics shouldn’t be allowed to run for office. I just think that too many people in this country believe that they have to choose one or the other. This is why we keep ending up with 98% of the bunch we currently have. Besides, if you put them all on term limits, voter turnout will sink to even lower levels as people won’t go to the polls to vote out someone who won’t be there much longer no matter what they do.

Public financing could be good. Another option is to restrict campaign contributions to individuals (not groups and not corporations) from the state or district where the candidate is running. If you don’t even live in my state, let alone my congressional district, then why should you be allowed to influence my representation in Congress? (Or me influence yours?) I call this plan “Indistrict Financing.”

I agree with you that we desperately need real campaign finance reform. McCain-Feingold has created more problems than it has solved. I really think the time has come for term limits, public funding for campaigns, among other changes. How do we get this done?

I agree completely. We must reform the way we elect our leaders. It’s a sad truth that the person best qualified to run for president is often not the best person to be president. Campaigning today requires none of the important skills and temperment that a good president needs to govern effectively for the entire country (as opposed to the ones in his party.) Neither of the two major parties chooses a candidate who would best run the country; they choose the candidate who can win an election, and that isn’t necessarily good for us.

We need election reform and we need campaign finance reform. People need to look hard at candidates from other parties. If we keep fooling oursleves into thinking it has to be one of those two, then we’ll never be rid of those self-serving bastards.

we can keep looking for alternative choices, and the neo-cons will stay in power, it sucks,but this country cannot survive the greedwhores…in a perfect world I would have I would never want, in a great world democracy would trump capitalism, in bush’s world, we must try and survive…if there is an election in 08, im voting dem, even if it means hillary (((shudders)))

If we’re successful in our efforts, Randy, there won’t ever BE another Republican administration because we will have shown the country why it’s not in their best interests to let Republicans control things. Especially Republicans who think that businesses do and should have more rights than people.

And, for the record, there are other political parties besides the Democratic and Republican ones. Personally I prefer one of the alternative choices (you believe in choices, right?) in charge of the Congress and the country. I don’t believe that either of the two major parties has our interests at heart.

I don’t know, Randy, if you aware that this is a progressive site, it seems those here that run it thought it was obvious and those coming here to post comments will understand the perspective and POV they take on the current administration…since you feel that way why don’t you go to another site, or is your life so pathetic that you have to run around to sites where you know you will disagree with them and whine…I feel, Bush is an idiot…Tony Snow is an idiot, & when Snow starts speaking on behalf of Bush the stupidity increases exponetionally
