“We have never ever seen a case like this,” said Keith Ashdown of Taxpayers for Common Sense: The lobbying firm at the center of the House Appropriations Chairman Jerry Lewis (R-CA)/Duke Cunningham scandal failed to report fully $2 million in lobbying fees.
Web traffic is dropping at AnnCoulter.com, RushLimbaugh.com, and BillOReilly.com, but it’s rising at many progressives sites, including Raw Story, Crooks and Liars, and ThinkProgress.

And finally: How to scam the “Nigerian letter” scammers by convincing them you’ll pay $150,000 for their wood carvings.
Who needs to listen to the vile and venomous rantings of these hate-mongers(man-Coulter & Lush Limpwrist)? They hate America and its freedoms.

June 29th, 2006 at 7:59 pmhi all!… just back from a pre-birthday visit with my daughter – tomorrow she is 21… sigh… and tonight she and her guy are on their way to chicago for the weekend (his home-area) – Taste of Chicago, King Tut, shopping downtown… probably no time to visit mom’s favorite Renoir sisters at the Art Museum… ah well…
so, did i miss anything interesting?!?
June 29th, 2006 at 8:14 pmah haha! w00t!
Funny Nigerian reverse scam. Nice carvings, the man has some real talent.
June 29th, 2006 at 8:24 pmWhy do Coulter, Limbaugh and O’Reilly hate America?
June 29th, 2006 at 8:26 pmThey hate America for its freedom.
Perhaps, just perhaps, people are finally getting tired of the lies and hate spewed forth by the extreme right wing. Roger Ailes should be extremely worried when he reads that the average age of the person who tunes in to O’Reilly’s hate fest is an astounding 70 years old. To read that is to believe that it will be very difficult for Fox to win over new converts. The key audience demographic- 23 to 54 year olds- are simply not watching O’Reilly.
June 29th, 2006 at 8:41 pmSomething else is dropping at AnnCoulter.com – her pair?
June 29th, 2006 at 8:47 pm“Web traffic is dropping at AnnCoulter.com, RushLimbaugh.com, and BillOReilly.com, but it’s rising at many progressives sites”
That is because progressives don’t waste their time at Republican sites. No use arguing to a bunch of elitist hate-mongers. However, the Republicans seem to love to come to the progressive sites to either talk trash, or try and sway our opinion.
June 29th, 2006 at 8:56 pmI hope and pray that Jon Stewart is successful in destroying democracy as we know it so maybe we can get to know a real democracy.
June 29th, 2006 at 9:01 pmOh, and I actually almost feel a bit bad for the Nigerian scammer. But that’s caring side of me I guess. I had to remind myself that this guy is a THEIF! He steals peoples money. A lot of it.
But who knew any of those scammers had artistic talent? I wish they would actually focus on the art as a real profession. But I guess art doesn’t pat nearly as much. And after a scam like this, I am sure he and other scammers will think twice about focusing on art, and instead work even harder at scamming others.
Greeeeeeat.

There is absolutely no reason why gays should not be allowed to adopt. They couldn’t back up their stupid prejudices, and now they look like the idiots they are in front of the whole country. Yay kids!

June 29th, 2006 at 9:48 pmI agree with NewName – I would not go to a neocon site. I do not care what they have to say because it is all lies and smears of progressives. I STILL do not understand why the trolls come here. I wish one would explain it to me. They have got to know they will not convert anyone back to the dark side.
June 29th, 2006 at 9:58 pmJules, NO! Don’t invite them here. Just one “troll-free” thread. Heaven…and probably WAY too much to ask. ;)
June 29th, 2006 at 10:02 pmZoo – I wonder if they even realize they are adding to the popularity of progressive sites? Could they be that stupid? Yes, yes they can!!!
June 29th, 2006 at 10:07 pmJules, I’m sure they have no idea. Simply because they have no ideas worth anything. Today was a good day for us/US. I hope to ride this high through the weekend!

U.S. troops accused of killing Iraq family
BEIJI, Iraq – Five U.S. Army soldiers are being investigated for allegedly raping a young woman, then killing her and three members of her family in Iraq, a U.S. military official told The Associated Press on Friday.
The soldiers also allegedly burned the body of the woman they are accused of raping.
Maj. Gen. James D. Thurman, commander of coalition troops in Baghdad, had ordered a criminal investigation into the alleged killing of a family of four in Mahmoudiya, south of Baghdad, the U.S. command said. It did not elaborate.
“The entire investigation will encompass everything that could have happened that evening. We’re not releasing any specifics of an ongoing investigation,†said military spokesman Maj. Todd Breasseale.
“There is no indication what led soldiers to this home. The investigation just cracked open. We’re just beginning to dig into the details.â€
However, a U.S. official close to the investigation said at least one of the soldiers, all assigned to the 502nd Infantry Regiment, has admitted his role and has been arrested. Two soldiers from the same regiment were slain this month when they were kidnapped at a checkpoint near Youssifiyah.
At least four other soldiers have had their weapons taken away and are confined to Forward Operating Base Mahmoudiyah south of Baghdad. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.
The official said the killings appear to be unrelated to the kidnappings but that a soldier felt compelled to report the killings after his fellow soldiers’ bodies were found.
The killings appeared to have been a “crime of opportunity,†the official said. The soldiers had not been attacked by insurgents but had noticed the woman on previous patrols.
June 30th, 2006 at 11:31 amSHAME SHAME SHAME SHAME ON ALL AMERICA
Doodle Bug,
We are shamed alot then since rape and murder happen almost every single minute in America. Then again, it happens in every single country in the world so shame on the world!!
Anyways, what is your point? That story is about a few criminals that are being investigated and even arrested. Thankfully we have a great judicial system and military system that will once again work fine. Your story is just pointless. Are you going to post every single time someone gets raped and murdered? I doubt you could get posts pumped out that fast.

Actually as a troll… ie. conservative I come here hoping to find a little civil discourse that doesn’t involve name calling and other liberal lexicon.
I don’t come here in hopes of swaying an opinion, but here another opinion and/ or it being reciprocated. At the same time it might be possible that there are liberals that exist on these blogs that aren’t shrill, tin foil hat, conspiracy theorists. Occasionally I find one and it is cool. But maybe it’s alter egos manifesting on here and you all are just venting. I can only hope. Ironically if conservatives and or republicans, which are two different things, are thought to be racist, bigot, homophobes… the only people i see playing up the thoughts are shrill angry liberals.. It’s a little frustrating sometimes when any thought by a conservative is dismissed in cliches and catch phrases… the only hate and rage it seems is from you all.
I personally welcome challenges to thought and opinion. It means you find out of your thoughts and opinion have merit or not… after all isn’t that called “diversity” Its an example as to why alot of conservative talk shows do so well vs. Air America…
It’s always nice to live in a fish bowl… so warm and secure… everything is just how you like it… the sound of your own voice, until you start tasting your own crap too long and it is time for the water to be changed…
But then again I rather be in the ocean and experience a variety of fish and my water doesn’t get old….
Regardless… it is well possible to go through life never hearing conservative thought or opinion ideas etc… versus liberal that are out there every single day.
June 30th, 2006 at 11:55 amNo my theory about posting the long RAPE and MURder story was to see who posts long threads as to expose republican trolls for shifting the story up furhter as most people who join threads only read the headings and the last post ……get my drift

I hear you–as a liberal, I have experienced the same reaction when people dismiss my thoughts as “communism” “socialism” etc. It does go both ways–there are people on the left who attack those on the right with simplistic slogans, and vice versa. Believe me , there is plenty of hate and rage coming from the right–I can give you examples from this very site–hate filled, curse filled, mindless diatribes filled with racial insults.
“it is well possible to go through life never hearing conservative thought or opinion ideas etc… versus liberal that are out there every single day. ”
there are plenty of conservative thoughts and opinions out there–from the Wall Street Journal, to Joe Scarborough, Rush Limbaugh, Fox News (which seems to be playing on several TVs in every airport newsstand I walk through)–hey, even here on this thread. To say nothing of the White House and Congress, all of which are controlled by Republicans, plenty of whom describe themselves as conservatives.
I am glad to hear real opinions–not slogans about socialism, communism, treason, “cut and run”, etc. Not to say you engage in any of this–you certainly didn’t in your post. But be reasonable–the US is not a place where conservative thoughts and opinions are stamped out or invisible.,
June 30th, 2006 at 3:01 pmThankfully we have a great judicial system and military system that will once again work fine. Your story is just pointless.

…no intelligent American wants to engage in “civil discourse” with intellectually dishonest, facist right wing Bushite TRAITORS…
…who KNOW that they’re being USED by a criminal regime of corrupt cowards, deserters, mass murderers and TRAITORS…
…yet continue to support them because they (you) HATE…
…people, political ideologies, and religions different from yours/yourselves…
…but most importantly to have to admit that you were WRONG in voting for the criminal Bushite junta (TWICE!)…
…you support committing rape, mass murder, and the destruction of our democracy so that you can protect the legacy of amoral cowards and TRAITORS (Bushiva and L’il Dick et al.)…
…fu*k “civil discourse”, we need to get closure to the “Civil War”…
…and make America “whole” (according to its true creed of equality and diversity) once and for all…
June 30th, 2006 at 3:19 pm31 “what is your point? That story is about a few criminals that are being investigated and even arrested. I think the point is that it is ironic, to say the least, that one of the reasons given for Iraq was that we were saving people from atrocities committed by Saddam Hussein, and now there are reports of atrocities being committed by our troops. This does not mean Saddam Hussein was a good person or didn’t do horrendous things. It also doesn’t mean that all of our troops are to blame. But it is ironic and more than a bit sad that an invasion launched, in part, on high minded ideals has led to reports of rape, murder (see also Haditha), the abuses at Abu Ghraib (which included deaths).
I am glad Saddam Hussein is gone. I wish we weren’t killing Iraqi civilians, or torturing prisoners–no matter what they are accused of doing. We are supposed to be better than Saddam Hussein. I believe we are, but it is sad when one realizes that we are responsible for our own terrible acts in Iraq over the past 3 plus years.
June 30th, 2006 at 3:24 pm#36
glad for a response to what i said eblair… the outlets you described are cable and AM radio… more people watch network and listen to FM… either way the “new” media in the last 10 plus years has made giant leaps in terms of that. But if i was to look at what has dominated in general in our society the left cannot be denied… Example… it is possible for a child to grow up into adult hood and not hear a true conservative thinker or concepts opinions etc… from TV, Movies, MTV, Network news, school, universities etc… and in the end to wrap you head around opposing ideas becomes rather difficult…. I think big papa sums that up LOL…
(SIGH) thanks
As far as the article.. it is further ironic that our troops are treated guilty till proven innocent by the media and our government in some cases…. and to compare what ever a few troops have done vs. any and all saddam commited and well all the islamic fascism isn’t fair at all. It almost reminds me of how we treat our own law enforcement… the stereotypes of “grunt: marines paralleled with “pig” racist cops. It disgusts me that their sacrifice is taken for granted everyday and one of them does something to feed ignorance and stereotypes and that is all we hear…
But none it seems on the left wish to talk about the good… why? “ITS’ BUSH’S WAR” cliche…
June 30th, 2006 at 4:32 pmFrankly Joneser, I don’t agree that there is any good in this war. It was started as a lie and is ending in disgrace for our country. If you really care about Ameica, are you willing to sell our reputation for the benefit of the corrupt Administration officials? Don’t you think we could have spent our surplus in better ways than funnelling it directly to Halliburton, who have repeatedly demonstrated their inability to give service for payment?
June 30th, 2006 at 6:36 pmYes, Saddam was a bad guy, after all he was an American plant. So? There were no WMDs. You have been had, alomg woth all the other conservatives.
I respect your right to have your opinion, thank you for your polite discourse, but i pity you for your inability to see the big picture and I am angry at you and your kind that support this illegal, unnecessary waste of our economy, our resources, and most of all the lives and limbs of all the victims of this was, our few soldiers and the Iraqi hundreds of thousands.
You could do with a little dose of reality.
Sorry for the typos, iI have a hard time typing through the red rage…
June 30th, 2006 at 6:38 pm40–you’re making some really big generalizations Joneser. are you saying cable and AM are inaccessible to the general population? that doesn’t pass the straight face test. and anyone who passes through an airport sees Fox News in the newsstands as I mentioned. plus, where are the liberal nuts all over network and FM? I don’t think these points stand up–people in the United States are exposed to all sorts of viewpoints–in school, at work, at church, at home, on TV, radio, etc. who in 2006 lives their life without seeing cable TV or hearing about Rush Limbaugh? This theory that people aren’t exposed to conservative viewpoints doesn’t ring true to me.
you also say our troops are guilty til proven innocent. Yes they are. But quite a few soldiers have been proven guilty or pled guilty –see links http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/06/01/dog.handler.ap/

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/special/iraq/2941061.html
you talk about marines being paralleled to “pig” racist cops. where? any examples? pig racist cops sounds like something from the 60s–I don’t think cops are widely reviled nowadays
you say “It disgusts me that their sacrifice is taken for granted everyday and one of them does something to feed ignorance and stereotypes and that is all we hear…” it’s not “one of them”–as I showed, several have pled guilty or been convicted. Abu Ghraib alone involved multiple soldiers, and multiple soldiers there have been convicted. yes, if there was one incident of our guys abusing or killing an Iraqi civilian or prisoner, I’d write that off as a bad apple. It’s way more than that–Abu Ghraib, Haditha–and outside Iraq, incidents at Kandahar, Guantanamo Bay. doesn’t take away from what others have done who serve honorably, but it’s way too important to brush this off as an isolated incident
you say no one on the left wants to talk about the good. That’s like seeing someone stuck in the rain, soaked head to toe and saying “hey, he should be happy because his left sock is still dry. ” what good are we missing? a war that has gone on more than 3 years when we were told it would take weeks or months. Most of the reasons cited for going to war in Iraq turned out to be incorrect. 2500 of our men and women killed, thousands wounded. A country on the brink of civil war (or in civil war, depending on who you ask), with a leading political party that is closely tied to next door neighbor fundamentalist Iran. Hundreds of billions of dollars down the drain on an occupation we were told would finance itself with oli money.
common sense is what guides us. I wonder why it is so hard for some people, including the president, to acknowledge how badly things have gone

I’m in no way pretending to say that people don’t own cable or flip the dial to AM radio. But you should look at how many people subscribe to cable, not that much actually. Nevermind print news (a whole other argument). we represent a minority in terms of being informed or paying attention current events and issues in our country. So those cable channels and those radio dials will be more tuned into MTV and Desperate House Wives. This isn’t to down play entertainment, i like to veg out as much as the next guy. I still contend however that if one was to run a scientific experiment with a raising of a child, you could shield that child from conservative culture or values far easily than liberal ones…Ever ask a kid about American history, or who their mayor is etc… thay have no clue…
The education system is a joke.
You definitly are not exposed to all sorts of view points in college. 90% of professors are liberal in universities today, you can look how conservatives are treated on campus by liberals and then think about the reverse…. my own girlfriend’s kid got C in her class cause the professor didn’t like her point of view…. even recently the elementry teacher who was comparing Bush to Hitler.
I have a degree in architecture… never spoke to one professor with a conservative point of view… and mind you i only “discovered” my conservative point of view in the last several years… but nonetheless.
The military… yes there are incidents as there always have been in the military and in war… it happens… but it’s magnified in the media… because we are the information age… a time where we want it now… instantly…. commercial free.. etc… it permeates the culture… look at road rage, 56k modems, handset phones?, 256 processor? cd player? Imagine the idea of toppling a regime and setting up a new government in 3 years? and people are still unsatisfied… 2500 of our soldiers sacrificed for freedom to those who couldn’t obtain it…. yet how many lives in WW2 in how many years, where we still have troops?
Cops are treated like crap… my girlfriend is in the academy… and her borthers are cops now… (latino by the way) they are constanly treated like crap… they say expect to be spat on in your first month on the job… and they have… you should recognize what goes on in the media with cops etc… if it bleeds it leads… from corruption a few bad apples, to a beating, to movies and how they are portrayed, do you think poeple want to see a movie where a cop is doing absolute good? nope only the super heros get that job. Yet you don’t hear about them gathering up leftovers at restaurants and at night and feedin gthe homeless. Or the fact that when you walk in to take the exam to be admited most of them are white males and latinos not blacks (i am black by the way)… They have the stereotype of being ignorant people with power trips, when in my girlfriends class alone there are people who =gave up cushy 6-figure jobs and masters degrees…. I say parallel because today people think our soldiers are uneducated and have no choice but to join cause they are poor.. etc.. that is B.S.
http://www.heritage.org/Research/NationalSecurity/cda05-08.cfm
To debate iraq right now is a whole other animal… but i odn’t play the illegal war buch lied game… it wasn’t illegal because the U.N. pushed resolution afte resolution…. and the rest of the world intelligence believed he had WMD… and when you deal with a guy like saddam and all his stall tactics (see arrafat and kim jong, adminijad (sp)) it is up to them to prove they don’t… which he didn’t…we are also dealing with a coutry the size of California and we are still discovering mass graves… and recently WMD he claimed he didn’t have… I am tired of the “we planted saddam” stuff too… We have dealt with all types Stalin included… for a greater good. Clinton and Carter continued to play with arafat and his crew too.
nonetheless eblair i am out… have a wonderful 4th of July and I will see you around and celebrate our framers for making all this possible ;)
July 1st, 2006 at 12:53 pm45 Joneser
as of end of 2005, there were 65 million households in the US that subscribed to cable http://www.instat.com/press.asp?ID=1489&sku=IN0502141MB that’s out of a total of approx. 105 million households (that number is as of 2000, so likely a few million more now) http://www.infoplease.com/us/census/data/demographic.html
“I still contend however that if one was to run a scientific experiment with a raising of a child, you could shield that child from conservative culture or values far easily than liberal ones” impossible to back this up without actually doing a study, if one could be done. not worth much to make assertions like this. It would be like my saying I contend that scientific data would show that most people in the US receive faulty information from the media. Just speculation without an actual study. why not stick with things we can actually back up with facts?
“Ever ask a kid about American history, or who their mayor is etc” what does that have to do with exposure to conservative ideas? knowledge of US history or other facts is not a conservative idea
“90% of professors are liberal in universities today” this may be true for all I know but where does this number come from?? a guess?
“I have a degree in architecture… never spoke to one professor with a conservative point of view” That’s one experience. I have a degree in law from a prestigious east coast school. I had conservative professors in law school and certainly heard from both professors and students with conservative points of view.
“Imagine the idea of toppling a regime and setting up a new government in 3 years? and people are still unsatisfied” well, before the war started, when Rumsfeld was asked, he said it would take weeks, maybe months Cheney and others said the same. http://www.usatoday.com/educate/war28-article.htm
you compare WWII to Iraq. yes, many more died in WWII. What’s the point? WWII was very different from Iraq. we were fighting Japan, a country that actually attacked us, and Germany, a country that had conquered most of Europe and threatened the whole world. Iraq was none of these things
“Cops are treated like crap… my girlfriend is in the academy… and her borthers are cops now… (latino by the way) they are constanly treated like crap…” sorry they are treated like crap. but this doesn’t prove how cops are treated across the US. it certainly doesn’t excuse it but is a long way from saying cops are widely viewed as pigs. if this is going on of course it’s a problem, but no need to over generalize–just as I recognize (of course) that not all troops in Iraq are breaking the law (though the ones that are, are doing some very significant things)
“it wasn’t illegal because the U.N. pushed resolution afte resolution” I don’t really care to debate this either, but the UN rejected a resolution supporting war. The UN Secy General explains: “On September 16, 2004 Kofi Annan, the Secretary General of the United Nations, speaking on the invasion, said, “I have indicated it [the invasion of Iraq] was not in conformity with the UN charter. From our point of view,
from the charter point of view, it was illegal.” http://www.answers.com/topic/the-un-security-council-and-the-iraq-war Legal or not, this war was a mistake. A majority of Americans recognize that now
“I am tired of the “we planted saddam†stuff too” not sure what this means. Don’t think I said anything about this
happy 4th to you too. Framers had an elegant vision of a great nation, which they set forth in the document that defines our democracy, the Constitution. I am glad they did so.
July 2nd, 2006 at 3:35 am45 Joneser “The military… yes there are incidents as there always have been in the military and in war… it happens” this is such an odd viewpoint to me–I really don’t know what to make of it
The reason the reports of abuses, even killings, of civilians and prisoners by our troops in Iraq bothers me so much is because it is not what America is about. We stand for decency, human rights, humanity. Abu Ghraib and Haditha are stains on our national character. It doesn’t mean America is evil. it doesn’t mean our troops are evil as a whole. But why doesn’t it bother you that these horrible things happened? you seem to suggest it’s just the cost of going to war. maybe so (though I still don’t understand how you can be so casual about death?). all the more reason to be 100% sure that war is necessary before you dive in. we screwed up. war in Iraq was not necessary. Iraq did not have WMD. There was no threat of imminent attack. Saddam was contained. The sanctions were working. Iraq was not allied with Bin laden. Innocent people have paid the price for our mistake, and our nation’s standing in the eyes of the world has suffered. This matters to me because I think the US should stand for what is right, not for going to war on false pretenses.
