MSNBC regular advocates murder of newspaper editors.
Talk show host Melanie Morgan tells Gregg Sargent, “the best solution that I can think of to deal with any newspaper editor…who is responsible for leaking national security classified information, is to be locked in a steel cage with the family members of slain troop members who would happily deliver the ultimate punishment of death. Plus her reasons for doing it are flawed, since the NYT did not publish anything the president didn’t already talk about in numerous speeches. Any person in the US that holds a security clearance is subject to very strict and stringent laws concerning the handling of classified material. When and if a PREVIOUSLY classified document reaches an editor or any other non-cleared person the document is automatically unclassified by definition. The guilty party is the person who leaked, or caused to be leaked by direction to a subordinate, the information. Case in point: Libby is not charged with the unauthorized distribution of classified information as he is not guilty of that crime. The guilty ones are Bush and Cheney. The same is true in this case the guilty party is the Administrative official that provided the document to the first uncleared person. However, this is all moot because the security laws do not permit the classification of any document for the purpose of hiding a criminal act. Bush violated the law, hence any documentation concerning his act of illegally obtaining financial information cannot be classified, ergo the editors have committed no crime. Morgan obviously suffered brain damage when she performed her rectal-cranial insertion.

After the next attack occurs, he can say, “Well, if the NYT and other groups hadn’t tipped off Al Qaeda, we would have stood a better chance of catching them.” My only hope is that only liberals are killed, but I know thats not realistic since they don’t check your voter registration before they kill you. If you took those same words that were broadcast over your airways by Ms. Morgan and then attributed them to an Islamic leader and broadcast them on Al Jazeera, your “patriotic” base would be falling all over themselves screaming “terrorists!” and would begin a bombing campaign against some Arab nation who had no involvement whatsoever.
Have any of you even looked up the definition of “terrorism”? I can save you some time, look in the mirror and cast your gaze upon the most vile of all terrorists currently inhabiting the planet, the Americans. Harsh words, yes. But the reality is much harsher and the ramifications of your actions (and inactions) are imposing unjustifiable deaths upon innocent people all over this globe.

The problem with the Times is that millions of Americans no longer believe that its editors would make those calculations in anything close to good faith. We certainly don’t. On issue after issue, it has become clear that the Times believes the U.S. is not really at war, and in any case the Bush Administration lacks the legitimacy to wage it.
So, for example, it promulgates a double standard on “leaks,” deploring them in the case of Valerie Plame and demanding a special counsel when the leaker was presumably someone in the White House and the journalist a conservative columnist. But then it hails as heroic and public-spirited the leak to the Times itself that revealed the National Security Agency’s al Qaeda wiretaps.
Mr. Keller’s open letter explaining his decision to expose the Treasury program all but admits that he did so because he doesn’t agree with, or believe, the Bush Administration. “Since September 11, 2001, our government has launched broad and secret anti-terror monitoring programs without seeking authorizing legislation and without fully briefing the Congress,” he writes, and “some officials who have been involved in these programs have spoken to the Times about their discomfort over the legality of the government’s actions and over the adequacy of oversight.” Since the Treasury story broke, as it happens, no one but Congressman Ed Markey and a few cranks have even objected to the program, much less claimed illegality.

U.S. Lacks Plan to Curb Terror Funds, Agency Says
The government’s efforts to help foreign nations cut off the supply of money to terrorists, a critical goal for the Bush administration, have been stymied by infighting among American agencies, leadership problems and insufficient financing, a new Congressional report says.
More than four years after the Sept. 11 attacks, “the U.S. government lacks an integrated strategy” to train foreign countries and provide them with technical assistance to shore up their financial and law enforcement systems against terrorist financing, according to the report prepared by the Government Accountability Office, an investigative arm of Congress.

The government has identified 26 “priority” countries that it considered particularly vulnerable to exploitation by terrorist financiers, who may take advantage of lax financial controls and loosely regulated or nonexistent laws to launder money in support of terrorist attacks, officials said.
But officials at the State and Treasury Departments cannot even agree on who is supposed to be in charge of the effort to shore up defenses in vulnerable countries, the accountability office report concluded.
In at least one case, the State Department refused to allow a Treasury official to enter an unidentified foreign country last year to help with strategies to fight terrorist financing because of turf battles, investigators found. Because the country had recently been upgraded to a priority, State Department officials wanted to do their own assessment first before allowing the Treasury Department to conduct its work, causing a delay of several months.
Investigators found clear tensions between officials at State, Treasury, Justice and other departments.
One unidentified Treasury official quoted anonymously in the report said that the intergovernmental process for deterring terrorist financing abroad is “broken” and that the State Department “creates obstacles rather than coordinates effort.” A State Department official countered that the real problem lies in the Treasury Department’s reluctance to accept the State Department’s leadership in the process.
In another problem area, private contractors used by the Treasury Department and other agencies have been allowed to draft proposed laws in foreign countries for curbing terrorist financing, even though Justice Department officials voiced strong concerns that contractors should not be allowed to play such an active role in the legislative process.
The contractors’ work at times produced legislative proposals that had “substantial deficiencies,” the report said.
The administration has made cutting off money to terrorists one of the main prongs in its attack against Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups. It has seized tens of millions of dollars in American accounts and assets linked to terrorist groups, prodded other countries to do the same, and is now developing a program to gain access to and track potentially hundreds of millions of international bank transfers into the United States.
But experts in the field say the results have been spotty, with few clear dents in Al Qaeda’s ability to move money and finance terrorist attacks. The Congressional report- a follow-up to a 2003 report that offered a similarly bleak assessment - buttresses those concerns.
Senator Charles E. Grassley, the Iowa Republican who leads the Senate Finance Committee and was one of the lawmakers who requested the study, said he was disappointed to learn that in an area as critical as countering terrorist financing, “they haven’t gotten very far yet.”
In an interview, Mr. Grassley said: “It’s as simple as learning to stop the infighting and turf protection and get on with the job. What’s happening is just inexplicable in light of the war on terrorism.”
Logical & ethical consistency and moral integrity require that all those who bashed the NY TImes for their story either apologize profusely for their willfully ignorant vitriol, or subject the always moral-relativists at the Wall St Journal Editorial Page to the same broadsides they’re aiming at the NY Times
Then again, logical consistency has never been a quality in abundance with the Bush Jr Administration or its media lackeys

It’s time someone with the power vested showed up to read these inciteful goons the Riot Act-preferrably a fully combat uniformed and armed S.W.A.T. unit. Talk about inciting a riot-of loose bladders!
July 1st, 2006 at 11:53 pm…maybe that’s one helpful solution to the next band of thugs that see fit to interfere with our right to vote-have law enforcement (those that agree with our right to vote,of course)on hand to read the Riot Act and the consequences if they don’t comply.
