Just how many more years and terms will it take for a Republican House, Republican Senate, Republican Executive Branch, and all three supported by a Republican appointed Supreme Court will get around to doing something that helps America? Every damn thing these ne0cons do is WRONG. Invade and occupy a nation that posed no threat to us? WRONG. Their response to Katrina? WRONG. Harriet Myers? WRONG. Social Security reform? WRONG.     Jay: Be careful about using Hitler for an analogy: he did things like attack and occupy nations that posed no threat to him, stifled public dissent, used military might instead of diplomacy, killed civilians, hired henchman to do his bidding, censored the news, used propoganda to spread his message, tortured prisoners, and a bunch of other shit that in no obvious way parallels what the neocon leadership in the White House is trying to do. I have a brother-in-law, who used to have a picture of JFK hanging in his house, that started voting the GOP when he was looking to have his taxes reduced. Every year, he files his tax return, and is still waiting to have his taxes reduced! You see, he is just a common old middle class, retired, gentleman, not one of those with mega millions. So, next time I see him, he will STILL be waiting to have his taxes reduced and still casting his vote for a republican. He is a true, blue, 34 percenter!

    In this world view objecting to isreali overkill is “anti jewish”, and objecting to american troops raping and killing innocent iraqis with impunity is “anti-american”. No it’s not. It’s the correct reaction of normal people to atrocity.     Fear is what keeps them in denial – and in hope that they will be proven right.

    I’ve been having a ‘discussion’ with Tracy. The guy is an architect. That means he has some capacity for intelligence. But the minute you bring up anything he’s been conditioned, like Pavlov’s dogs, to fear, he becomes irrational and nonsensical. The fear clearly reduces him to a cowering child who can only sling insults and twist reality into something he can hide his head inside.

    It’s like Lincoln said about being able to fool some of the people all the time. Just like those who think the sun revolves around a flat earth… because the Bible says so.

In your case, it turns out it is: you are an intelligent, sensible and progressive person whether you are an architect or not. Emiliano Zapata never went to school and he has the brigthest ideas about a new economy system that would include everybody.

    No problem. My point was simply that I’ve had discussions with him before that were thoughtful and intelligent – but that his intellect seems to disolve everytime his fear appears, and that he uses it (the fear) rather than his intelligence to form opinions on the occupation of Iraq.

    I used to know a psychologist who told me that when people are afraid, the logic portions of their brain shut down and they resort to the portion that governs “fight or flight”. So, when we become afraid, it doesn’t matter how smart we are, since that area is blocked from use. It’s why fear worls so well in manipulating people to buy into fighting… and why these folks defend the Iraqi war which is utterly irrational and criminal.

They don’t control the courts–about 2/3 of federal judges were appointed by Repub presidents (who have occupied the White House for 18 of the last 26 and 26 of the last 38 years). Repubs have had a majority of governorships since 1994, and are currently ahead 28-22. what exactly are liberals doing to this country? complaining really loudly?

The people making decisions–about how to respond to Al qaeda, where to go to war, how to tax and how to spend, how to regulate, what kind of hearings to provide to detainees at Guantanamo Bay, whether to allow abortion rights, whether to allow prayer in schools are NOT liberals. If you have a problem with how the country is being run, direct your venom to those who are running it–people like Pres Bush, VP Cheney, Rep, Hastert, Sen Frist, etc.

    When the Democrats regain power, then you can blame them. But right now, your feeling of being victimized by powerless liberals is hard to understand

    I’m not sure that you even deserve a reply, however until now I had never even considered whether I was what you call an “almost victim.” All I know is that the molestation attempt was a very frightening experience for a 10-year old, and I can imagine that such things must be 100s–or 1000s–of times worse for kids who actually end up violated. The attempt on me when I was 16 wasn’t as frightening, as the man wasn’t so much larger than myself, and I was sure I could get out of his clutches–which I did. It only got frightening when he started stalking me afterwards, which is when I finally told my parents, and my GOP stepfather went to the police, who didn’t doubt what I said at all.
    In the meantime, while your “tough-on-terrorism” party has been worrying about gay marriages and flag-burning, North Korea, which has been boasting for years of its nuclear capacity for years, has started testing missiles, and it has closed the CIA special office for Osama bin Ladin, who was actually responsible for 9/11. I hope you are proud.

    The point was brought up to ask you to substantiate your charges that the liberals have a child molestation agenda. Many of the posters here have children, and it is possible that other female posters here have experienced molestation attempts as I did as children, so your charges are not cute or funny; they are libelous. And although I produced a list of several dozen GOP men charged with pedophilia, you couldn’t come up with even one Democrat. Even I wouldn’t doubt that you could find at least one if you did a little research–which you are obviously unwilling to do.
    No one but your paranoid self has ever said that everyone but hetereosexual white men can be victims. However, I get the impression that you think child molestation should be taken seriously only when a blonde (most likely Republican, if from Utah) kid like Elizabeth Smart is involved. Sorry: I’m not quite blond, but I am a very fair-skinned Caucasian and even had a Republican stepfather. In any case, the police took the case seriously. Now that’s all I care to say on this unless you can substantiate your “child molestation charges.”
