  1. MLDB says:

    That…was awesome.

  2. profmarcus says:

as much as we might like to think dana priest seized on a “teachable moment,” even a cursory glance at bennett’s body language tells us that his brain is encased in lead… nothing goes in, nothing comes out…

And, yes, I DO take it personally

  3. james risser says:

dana threw in the ‘casino gambling’ beautifully!!!!

as you may recall, bennett lives for the gambling…watch it again, and watch fatboy squirm when she just sort of throws that in!

    bravo, dana!!!!

  4. Jay Randal says:

Well if she made him squirm, then good for Dana! All GOP hypocrites should be treated to a grilling repeatedly by the press!

  5. Ken Daves says:

bennet makes my blood boil. Such a total idiot and an asshole to boot.

    Good for you Dana.

Sad, isn’t it? when such a basic truth must be held up as a shining moment from our “liberal” media.

Unfortunately, I would never trust the WaPo again.

Lie to me once, shame on you…lie to me twice, shame on you.

  6. madashell says:

I propose we start calling trolls lemmings – it fits them best.

Lemmings: known for periodic mass migrations that sometimes end in drowning.

With that said, I have also come to the realization, when listening to most of the republican congressional and senatorial representatives, when you actually hear these imbeciles speak out about almost anything – that their voters are not patriots in any stretch of the imagination, and that they are pure PARTY loyalists, no matter how dimwitted their candidates are, they will as soon vote for the idiot, than, heaven forbid, vote for the educated ones.

  7. Badmoodman says:

For us Luddites in the group, is there a transcript or text besides the video?

  8. motherlowman says:

As a bonus, she also managed to work in a reference to outing a CIA covert operative. I want to be Dana when I grow up.

  9. Zooey aka Zookeeper says:

Ohhh, SNAP! That was great! Look at Bennet’s face, he’s doing a mental run-through of who he could get to do a quick hit. He had to clasp his hands in front of himself in order to keep from throttling Dana Priest. Fantastic!

Badmoodman, try what I did, since I have stupid dial-up. Click on the arrow, and run the thing, you’ll get in 3 second bits. When it’s done, run it again, and it should play for you. It’s too good to miss, and the transcript won’t do it justice.

  10. Neal says:

Off topic…….An Inconvenient Truth book is number one one the New York Times Bestsellers List

  12. Zooey aka Zookeeper says:

Also off topic — If the shuttle mission has been scrubbed for the second day running, why is the news still yammering on about it? Isn’t there anything else going on today? Hmmmm?

  13. big papa says:

    GREAT video, BUT…

…I wish someone would’ve stuck it to that TREASONOUS basta*d on C-Span…

…this a.m. he had an hour to spew his TREASON unchecked…

…he mentioned the Dubai Ports deal- in reference to Bushite TRAITORS complaints having blocked it…

    …patently untrue considering…

…Dubai Ports World International STILL controls our ports…

…and the TREASONOUS Congress threw out language in a resolution that would’ve forced DPWI to sell their interest…

    …in essence…

…the American public has been hoodwinked- by the criminally TREASONOUS Bushites- once again…big time…

…nobody called in to ask Bill how many times he had informed his listeners of that fact…

…that sorry mofo mentioned FLAG Burning…

…and NOBODY called in to (nor has the MSM) expose the fact that these same conservative hypocritical scum sh*t eating Bushite TRAITORS pushing/supporting this farce…

…are the same ones who WORSHIP/DEFEND THE RIGHT TO FLY THE CONFEDERATE FLAG!

  14. katy says:

Anyone else getting WordPress windows when clicking around TP?

  15. Zooey aka Zookeeper says:

Yep, katy. This seems to happen on long weekends. Battle on…!

  16. katy says:

just good to know i’m not alone!

  17. katy says:

could be part of that $450,000 also ???
    woo – oo – oooooooo…

  18. katy says:

well – if you REALLY want to feel sorry for poor ol’ bill bennett, check out the longer clip (sorry zooey and badmoodman) at crooksandliars… i can’t link i directly, but scroll down a bit…
the screen freeze shot at the end is rich…

  19. GSD says:

Oh leave Bill Bennett alone. He was given a waiver to the “doctrine of liberal infallibility” by Ary-Ann Coulter. You can’t attack him because he is a victim of obesity and of addictive gambling too.

Stop attacking victims you evil liberals. Poor, fat, obese, degenerate gambler, Dollar Bill Bennett needs help and understanding, not attacks!

    -GSD

  20. Briseadh na Faire says:

Something to think about: In 1776 Americans celebrated their first Independence Day while under the rule of a tyrannt. 230 years later we once again celebrate Independence Day while under the rule of a tyrannt.

  21. Briseadh na Faire says:

Katy – thanks for the longer clip.

  22. Marie says:

I watched Priest today and I cheered out loud. Bennett is a hyporcite of the highest (or lowest) order. She deftly put him down.
His distorted view of things is indicated by his portrayal of himself as the (persecuted) lone republican on a panel that consisted of himself, Safire, Harwood!

  23. trueblue says:

When I first saw this thread, I clicked right to the comments, as I would not be able to view the video.
Then it hit me….. I went hi-speed 4 days ago!!!!!!!
Went back, watched the video no problem. (Awesome, BTW!)
It’s worth the extra cost, Zoo and Briseadh. Go for it!!!

  24. Ron says:

show some compassion for a ‘compassionate’ conservative like Billy. Wild Bill ‘Deal Me In’ Bennett is an eight million dollar loser. He needs some sympathy, not berating and belittling. He smoked only four packs a day while being the drug czar.

He called for the beheading of drug dealers, so he is much like Al-Zarqawi with his moral ‘virtue.’

Be nice to Bill, he only has your best interests at heart. Give the man a break, for God sakes.

  25. katy says:

    you’re welcome, Briseadh na Faire… hey, C&L is #2 on my list…

yea, trueblue – once you get that high speed, can’t go back!
i tried mine on a 3 month trial plan… night and day!
i went with cable… need too many phone filters with DSL…
    w00t!

    Comment by trueblue — July 2, 2006 @ 3:17 pm

Thanks! I did! Soon after it first came out. I was doing consulting work and a lot of internet research. Come to think of it, I should have been deducting a portion of my internet fees all these years! doh!!!

  28. trueblue says:

    Sorry, Briseadh na Faire,
Thought you hadn’t been able to view the video.

How’s studying for the bar going?

  29. Ron says:

    Afghanistan is falling apart.

Jane Stillwater wants Bush arrested for high crimes.

Bill Bennett gambles while Warshington spends more money in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Anybody with half a brain can see that Osama wants the US government to spend itself into a poor house. Congress is granting him his wish.

The US gov. has been suckered by one man.

Amazing. How could 534 members of Congress, I will exempt the Honorable Ron Paul, be so stupid? How could the neocons be suckered by one man, and possibly the Pakistanis, and not see it coming? The Pakistanis have played the US gov for fools too. How could the Bush Cabal be so stupid to fall for such a con game?

Because they’re as dumb as Bill Bennett.

  30. steve says:

That was great! Congrats… I’ll make sure to catch the show when it airs again later tonight.

I like how she also threw in the comment about outing an undercover agent as being something the press shouldn’t do… well ya know, the administration shouldn’t send someone to the press and give them that info either. *cough*plame*cough*

  31. Above the Clouds says:

Bill Bennett is yesterday’s news and yesterday’s sad song. If he is who the GOP trotted out to defend another failed neocon policy, the ship is sunk. Bennett’s next book will be the “Book of Vice’s.” Dana’s “casino gambling” dig was a nice, firm kick to Billy-boy’s nut sack. Tomorrow he’ll be on his radio show bitching about how unfair all the “liberal media” is to him. What a stooge.

  32. Briseadh na Faire says:

    It’s intense, but manageable.

    Thanks for asking.

On topic: If all these programs were so successful in capturing “terrorists” then why have so few been arrested?

    Comment by Briseadh na Faire

It’s catch and release (not) season. They only get to announce them in October, when it will them the most good. Super secret…

  34. Vance says:

The arguement that Bennet and all repugs use about us not being attacked in 5 years not being a coincedence is a crock of s#@t! Terrorists attacked the world trade center 8 years(Correct me if it was longer) before 9/11 and will attack us again im sure. Getting 4 planes in the air at the same time and hitting 3 of 4 targets doesnt happen over night, so its not a wonder we havent been attacked again yet. The bushpigs have done nothing to make us safer and this will be proven once the next carefull attack happens.

  35. Zookeeper says:

Absolutely right, Vance. The people who attacked us in 1993 & 2001 are not in a hurry. They don’t have to be. They just sit back and let us destroy ourselves from within, then they will try to move in with their coup de gras.

  36. katy says:

    off topic… i took a movie break… update:

FDR had some help bringing the country back around from the depression… Russell Crowe won the heavyweight championship, beating Jethro’s dad! Cinderella Man! great movie! i’d never seen it before… i’m not big on boxing either, but that was one helluva story!

    now, back on topic…

  37. richb says:

for me being a conservative Democrat, Bill Bennett to is a total embarassment. I turn the channel if he’s on. He does not represent his political perspective very well. I find his ilk repulsive on the political scene.

  38. jurassicpork says:

Bennet looked like someone who’d just had something long and hard abruptly pulled out of his mouth.

  39. Vance says:

#35 Zookeeper…Why does no one ever point that out? It completely destroys the “No coincedence” arguement.

  40. Lora says:

Everybody in the media obviously knows about Bennett’s gambling troubles, so why he is still used to comment on morals is beyond me. I thought he should have lost all credibility in that regard, the hypocritical tub of lard.

  41. Marie says:

And how much coverage did the MSM give this story that blows a hole in Bush’s lie that the spying was necessary after 9/11?
The U.S. National Security Agency asked AT&T Inc. to help it set up a domestic call monitoring site seven months before the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, lawyers claimed June 23 in court papers filed in New York federal court. Bloomberg news

  42. Zookeeper says:

#39 – It’s a mystery to me, Vance. The last person I heard make any mention of it, beside yourself, was Osama bin Laden himself.

I’m going to remember to bring it up next time someone makes the “we haven’t been hit!” argument. You do that, too, Vance. We’ll start a Whack-A-Mole trend.

  43. Vance says:

#42 Agreed……anyone else please feel free to do the same.

  44. ann coulter says:

ummm, we have not been hit because of my best-selling book, thank you!

  45. moonbat patrol says:

yup that little girl from Can’t Understand Normal Thinking ( see the acronym?) really put the heat to Bennett. You leftards really live in your own little delusional world.
    snivel on!

  46. JPark says:

We have not been hit because bin Laden et al. are waiting for just before the 2008 to hit. He would love to see Bush declare martial law. He has never had a recruiting tool like the neocons before. At least Reagan insulted and degraded the Middle East in private.

  47. JPark says:

Yeah, moonbat, you really needed to point out the acronym. That was clever. You are such a smart guy.

  48. ann coulter says:

i agree completely with moonbat! what is an ‘acronym’?

    kisses,

    ann

  49. Ken Daves says:

Mrs. Lovett: “Try a little Priest.”

Sweeney Todd: “Is it really good?”

Mrs. Lovett: “Sir, it’s too good, at least.”

Mr. bennett got served some Priest today. He looks like he knows he will never get the taste out of his mouth.

  50. madstork123 says:

I’m a little confused about the Repub “no coincidence” argument. Everytime I’ve heard it I ask myself, “Don’t these people realize that the people in 1993 wecaptured and tried?” Almost none of the support for the 19 hijackers has been found or captured. They couldn’t have been alone why don’t we have them. They’re still out there waiting for the next opportunity.

I’d be looking for all the known friends and acquaintances of the 19, not crying about how safe we are.

  51. Above the Clouds says:

. . . bitch-slapped and imasculated. Bennett and his ilk should learn that the real world that exists outside their “ditto-head” bubble bites back. Hey, Bill: “Is bitch-slapped one of the virtues you write of in that book you did a few years ago?”

  52. Briseadh na Faire says:

#46, if that’s the case, it would explain a great deal as to why we have not caught Bin Laden. He may well be on the payroll of the Bush Administration.

concerning the nyt ,bill keller should tell bush to fuck off.

  55. Barbera says:

Dana Priest, takes a cheap shot and everyone here applauds.

It is a very sad spectacle, and the liberal argument is astonishingly thin. Every piece of evidence that supports your claim that the terrorists knew all along that we were collecting data on money transfers from SWIFT. I have yet to see a single fact offered in support of this claim.

  56. trackman81 says:

when someone calls for you to be imprisoned for doing your job, i can’t think of a better reason (or person) to apply a “cheap hot” to.

    repubs=party of hypocrisy

  57. trackman81 says:

when someone calls for you to be imprisoned for doing your job, i can’t think of a better reason (or person) to apply a “cheap shot” to.

    repubs=party of hypocrisy

  58. Chase says:

Bennett had/has a gambling problem. I thought the left, progressives, inter alios, were apt to sympathize with gambling addicts, alcoholics, drug addicts because their disease was beyond their control…

I guess not when the person suffering is an outspoken conservative, a la Rush or Bennett.

BTW – Bennett, if he is guilty of anything, it’s inconsistancy or failing to live up to his own standard. Hypocracy, on the other hand, is a double standard (ie “you stop drinking while I sip this scotch”). I’m sure the subtlety is lost on this crowd.

  59. WaltTheMan says:

Since SWIFT is the prime player in overseas money transfer tracking, it seems only natural that the United States use that facility as a source. Anyone who has worked overseas on international assignment and had Price Waterhouse prepare their taxes will know of SWIFT’s role in this process. This Congressional report and this Congressional report are matters of public record that this was going on. For a deeper analysis refer to. Why the Bush monarchy is posturing over this matter eludes the very semblance of common sense.

  60. Briseadh na Faire says:

Why the Bush monarchy is posturing over this matter eludes the very semblance of common sense.

    Comment by WaltTheMan — July 3, 2006 @ 10:28 am

No, it makes a lot of sense. It has all the markings of Rove. Notice how the focus has shifted away from the administrations wrongful acts to the actions of the newspaper? All of a sudden, the NYT is undermining the War Effort. And the rest of the Media (with the notable exception of Fox) is bad, disloyal, even traitorous when they report on the wrongdoings of the Adminsitration.

Things are being set up. I would not be surprised if we get hit again by a “terrorist” attack. Even a small one will suffice. The administration can then blame the media. And the Democrats. And the blogosphere (450k to “study” blogs?). Legislation could then be passed to censor the internet and news media. Granted, its liklihood of surviving constitutional challenge is small, but by then the election will be over. But the War on Terror won’t be.

Welcome to the New American Century.

  61. Zooey aka Zookeeper says:

#55 – Barbera, it seems only appropriate that Dana Priest would take a cheap shot at the king of cheap shots.

And let’s assume for a moment that no one ever heard of SWIFT, no one. If YOU were a bad guy of any sort, would you have a straight up bank account? Or would you develop a complicated set of international accounts, or go on a cash only basis?

#58 – Chase, you hit it right on the head. Bennett & Limbaugh hold incredibly high standrads – for everyone but themselves. They live in opposition to their own standards so blatantly, that they invite ridicule.

  62. Zooey aka Zookeeper says:

#60 – Good morning, Briseadh na Faire. That’s some scary shit, because it seems so incredibly possible these days.

So, in terms of the Democratic Party, would you say Karl Rove is the Master Baiter?

  63. WaltTheMan says:

  64. Chase says:

#61 – But doesnt everyone with high standards, save Mother Teresa and those of her ilk, fail to live up to their own standard? Isn’t everyone flawed, afflicted with their own character defects and personal failings?

The difference between Bennett’s barb (about being “worthy of jail”) and Priest’s barb (regarding gambling) is striking and important. Bennett attacked the professional actions of Priest, that is her on-the-job decision to write about secret CIA detention centers. Priest, on the other hand, attacked Bennett personally in referencing his gambling problem. One lacked tact but the other was downright inappropriate.

  65. Zooey aka Zookeeper says:

#64 – Chase, I agree that we all fail to live up to our own standards on a very consistent basis. I don’t think that because Bennett happened to attack Priest professionally, and she happened to attack him personally, that Bennett should get a pass. He flings as much feces as he possibly can, in every possible situation, and this time some stuck to him. I can’t feel sorry for him. When was the last time you ever heard of Dana Priest flinging poo?

  66. Chase says:

#65 – Bennett isn’t my favorite guy either (and hell, he probably deserved what he got). Preist isn’t my favorite journalist, and I don’t agree with her decision to write the CIA prison article, but I have no doubt she is a true professional with few peers.

What I can’t understand is why the left is so quick to cheer and point and laugh at him for his gambling problem, particularly given the left’s proclivity to understand and forgive addictions as disease beyond personal fault (a position I, coincidently, couldn’t disagree with more).

  67. katy says:

What I can’t understand is why the left is so quick to cheer and point and laugh at him for his gambling problem…
    Comment by Chase — July 3, 2006 @ 11:47 am

    it’s the hypocrisy… plain and simple…

and because of “the left’s proclivity to understand and forgive addictions as disease beyond personal fault“, there would be no derision if the man was not a total hypocrite.

  68. Zooey aka Zookeeper says:

    #66 – Chase

What katy said in #67. We must agree to disagree, I’m afraid. ;)

  69. Chase says:

#67 – So because he was a hypocrite, attacking his disease is acceptable? What if I named a similarly hypocritic liberal? Would you be willing to laugh at them?

If you want to say addictions are diseases, you should not support laughing at an afflicted individual, regardless of their supposed hypocracy. I mean doesn’t Bennett have enough to laugh at without attacking something he is struggling with?

    Glaring schadenfreude.

  70. not the troll Amy says:

#64, Holy Roller Bill Bennett has made his living off of his “holier than thou” pronouncements so I don’t think it was a personal attack.

  71. Quadrajet says:

Chase, you’re right that there’s enough to laugh at Bennett about without attacking something he is struggling with. However, when someone goes before the public constantly yammering about right and wrong and holding ones self up as a pillar of morality and decency then gets popped for violating the same set of rules he insists the rest of us should live by, then he leaves himself open to criticism and yes, laughter. There isn’t any ’supposed’ hypocrisy on Bennett’s part, he’s a proven hypocrit.

  72. WaltTheMan says:

A military secret that I have never been able to rationalize or find out is how they create mustard spread from finely ground mustard seed that has the consistancy of oatmeal for the mess halls. That’s an item for the press to pursue instead of all the illegal programs fashioned by Cheney and Rumsfeld. It has to be Top-Secret, for eyes only.

  73. JPark says:

Ohhh, poor, poor Willie. He has a DISEASE!!! Nice try Chase but you don’t believe that one bit.

  74. Lora says:

    Chase,
I could sympathize with Mrs. John McCain, obviously a Republican, who had to deal with prescription drug addiction, because she didn’t hypocritically go around making $$ bloviating on radio and TV about how evil drug abusers are. Need I say more about Rush’s drug addiction and Bennett’s gambling woes?

  75. big papa says:

Every piece of evidence that supports your claim that the terrorists knew all along that we were collecting data on money transfers from SWIFT. I have yet to see a single fact offered in support of this claim.

    Barbarian,

…I’m sure you remember watching your god Bushiva stand in front of the television cameras on several occasions after 9/11…

..and in that sickeningly hoakie ass fake drawl…

…declare that America would go after terrorist financiers and charitities that support them…

    …stop playing dumb bi*ch!

    …oops! sorry…YOU ARE a DUMB BI*CH!

…what’s disgusting is the MSM’s reluctance to replay those declarations…

    …which would certainly clear Keller…

  76. big papa says:

    Glaring schadenfreude.

    Comment by Chase #69

    Chased,

…Hypocrisy bears more weight than schadenfruede…

    …it’s (hypocrisy is) a maddeningly frustrating pattern…

…with right wing conservative inbred TRAITORS, pedophiles, closet homosexuals, and drug addicts…

…like Pus Limphog, Scum Vanity, P’rick Sanitarynapkin, and Billigut degenerateBennet…

    …f*ck ‘em all…

    ..and u2…

    …if you can’t see the distinction…
