by Kathie Kerr of Universal Press Syndicate, the company that distributes Coulter’s column. (Kerr has reversed her earlier stance that “[Ann Coulter] is the one that needs to address this.”)

Beleaguered and oppressed people; coal miners that are forced into unsafe mines with sub-standard equipment and safety gear. How about all the farm and construction and carpentry jobs going to people in this country illegally (I noticed that you are practicing your Spanish and French for whatever reason). What about all the jobs that have been outsourced to other countries simply to maximize profit margins at the expense of American working families.
As for gay marriage, I really could care less. I remember something in our constitution regarding the persuit of happiness. The only reason you hate gays is because of religious sexual repression and you’re afraid that you might be one. If you don’t like gays, don’t date them. I’ve been married to my wife for almost 19 years and have a wonderful son.
I don’t mind paying taxes. I believe all Americans should pay a fair amount of taxes relevant to their income. I also believe that those tax dollars should be used first and foremost to benefit my fellow Americans in any and every way possible (including you), such as better education, second to none; better infrastructure, second to none; better health care, second to none; better and higher paying jobs so families can spend more time together than apart.
I’m for a strong military to be used in defense of this nation and not to be used as one man’s play-toy to placate the PNAC and certain corporations within the military-industrial complex.
As for your big republican bugaboo word, socialism, just what is it that a government is for? To provide services and protection to the citizens that fund said government. Aside from the childish arguments, my problem with conservatives is this: the modern conservative ideology focused on the following: a) a small federal government, b) unfettered free trade, c) a strong military, d) individual responsiblity, and e) fiscal conservatism.
From my perspective, they don’t practice what they preach. a) the federal government under Reagan, Bush 1 & 2 grew to the largest levels in history. (It actually shrunk under Clinton) b) free trade is not a partisan issue. c) a strong military – no problem with that, but Bush 2 seems not to understand the difference between miliary objectives and police and intelligence objectives. d) its not the federal government’s role to deal with issues of individual responsibilty. If they can’t catch the one man responsible for 9-11 after 5 years – Osama Bin Laden – or be bothered to save a bunch of poor black folk from drowning in New Orleans how can they teach me personal responsibility? e) fiscal conservatism? Our budget went out of control starting with Reagan, and expanded under Bush 1 & 2. Let’s not get on their proclivity of race-baiting – particularly African-Americans (which has improved significantly under Bush 2, to his credit).
Help me reconcile these issues, and I might understand how anyone can call themself a conservative.

Back on thread, I have worked in publishing, and plagiarism is simply not acceptable, whether the author is left, right or somewhere in between. If Ann-thrax is going to quote “liberally” (a word I know she hates) from others, making the proper attributions is the only ethical and legal (ie. not in violation of copyright) way to do it.

I don’t remember making remarks about keeping any group of people down. I believe what i said was that when this country had a morals it was a better place to live. The computer has a lot of good things about it, but it has bad things about it also. my feeling is that children now grow up to fast and are subjected to too many things they shouldn’t be. this is due mostly in part to liberals. Do you think Howard Stern has been beneficial or detrimental to this country, yet you will protect his right to free speech. Do you think that porn on the internet should be as easy to get as it is. Yes, Clinton lied about a consensual affair; Bush lied about WMD in Iraq and his promise to get bin Laden, the man actually behind 9/11 (did you read the thread about the CIA office devoted to bin Laden being closed?). I have neither the time nor energy (I’m recovering from bronchitis) to comment on the rest of your posting, which goes way off thread into illegal immigration, etc. I don’t support illegal immigration (I thought Bush supported amnesty for such people), and I am not against the pledge of allegiance. Don’t make assumptions to fit your stereotyped image of all liberals/progressives.
Anyway, this thread is supposed to be about Ann Coulter’s alleged plagiarism. A few months ago a novel by a Harvard student was taken off the market, because it was discovered that the author had taken several passages almost word for word from two other books. If the same is proven true about Coulter, let the chips fall where they may.
