I'm not a Democrat or republican so I could care less about Clinton or Bush.
I will mention a few nasty stats that will destroy the good 'ol USA.
The U.S. has a 804 billion dollar Current Account Deficit for 2005 and will breach 900 billion for the fiscal 2006 year.
We had a 700 billion dollar Governmental debt increase for the last fiscal year(including S.S. and other trust fund Raids)
We borrow most of the money to keep our country running (Somewhat) from Europe and Asia, in return they are buying many of our assets up making us into sharecroppers or slaves whatever term one wants to use. I would call that Neo-colonialism but most call it Globalization but it's just a new spin on a old Colonial game that the European Bankers are masters at.
U.S. infrustruture such as Roads, Bridges, Sewage treatment, Water systems, Dams, Levees, power grid, etc received a d-minus as a whole last year and within a few years will have failing marks(the country is falling apart) and we have not invested much during the past 30 years and it shows!!!
We work the most hours in the industrial world, have few fringe benefits and it only continues to worsen.
The Mercer Survey indicated that Americans rank 21 in pay when compared to other countries. Our healthcare system ranks 37th. We have the most expensive higher education system in the world leading to a class warfare "Why do the elites want the folks educated and smart as to overthrow them later'?
Our primary schools rank towards the bottom of the Industrial world when competing in International tests with Europe and Asia.
Our Gini-index is approaching 50 and we have close to 50 trillion dollars throughout the economy (Government, Private debts combined)
We are adding 3 1/2 trillion dollars yearly in new debts throughout the economy.
For each new dollar of profit in the U.S. Economy we are adding 6 dollars in new debts so we are just selling our assets as stated above to fund our lifestyles.
Before 1982 we added 1.87 dollar of debt for each dollar of increased GDP! Which means in reality we have negative economic growth!!!
We have 1/3rd of the world's prisoners and our Corrections Industry (parole, prison, probation) is over 8 million and rising rapidly. It was 1 million in 1981!!
So what happened to the U.S.?

Denver Catguy: Also, Bush himself didn’t create laissez faire, but he definitely follows that doctrine whole-heartedly

Oh my God!!! Bush believes strongly in the free enterprise system!?! Run for the hills people, and grab your all of your possessions…and you better hide good too or the mean old big business people will get you! I knew this was a left leaning web site but are most of you socialists?

Help me out here…what specific steps did Bush take after taking office that caused big business to clamp down on the little man? Oh, besides signing into law Sarbanes-Oxley which was probably the most restrictive clamp down on public companies since the Securities and Exchange Act of 1933. “Bush started it” is really the premise of your argument? Are you going to stick by that assertion even though 98% of all of the high crimes and misdemeanors committed by Enron, WorldCom and the like occurred during the Clinton Administration? Even though the dot.com bubble was generated during the same Clinton Administration? You are really going to stick to your story that big corporations started being even more big bad meanies after Bush took office?

Talk about being delusional, dude. Your claim that corporate America suddenly stopped looking after their bottom line and decided to pay their employees less than they were worth and abused them more because of who was in the White House is just plain stupid.

This just in: “After spending decades aggressively going after the most talented workforce, American corporations suddenly shifted tactics and have, for some mysterious reason after the election, began a strategy of crapping on their employees in an attempt to increase profits and be more competitive.” Just how naive to you have to be to believe such a thing?

Can you find businesses being run poorly? Yes. Can you find examples of companies shifting their labor force to other countries? Sure. In fact you will find all sorts of unethical behavior, corruption, sexual harassment, embezzlement and all around bad manors. Of course, it won’t be anywhere close to what you would find at say…the UN, but if you spend all of your energy looking for something you will most certainly find it, especially if it supports you preconceived notions of the world. If you think this behavior exists to a lesser extent in the rest of the world then you might as well just pull that big rock in front of the cave you are hiding in to stay away from the big business meanies that are out to get you.

OK, I know I’m piss’n in the wind here. I might as well be trying to convince the Unibomber that technology is a really cool thing. I know it won’t be a cave you will be hiding in so that you don’t have to compete with others in the big bad world but rather a rent controlled apartment in a safe and soft place in a socialistic country where you never have to worry about working hard and becoming successful. But stop being delusional. The US will never abandon the free enterprise system. Please go find someplace that already has. It’s obviously the best thing for everyone.

From my own experience Bush created lotzajobs for me:

Job1: I was a middle-management employee for a big corporation in America. I kept getting 2- 3% annual increases but more work and no rewards. I just love l’aissez faire!!!

Are you really blaming Bush because we have a laissez faire capitalist economy in the United States? Wait…let me read your statement again. Yep! You sure are. It couldn’t be that you didn’t receive any merit raises or promotions because you were a moron could it?

Nah, but you are definitely skirting close to that 'moron' boundary yourself, dude. Laissez faire is not fair, and that is what is setting him off. People don't get merit raises or promotions because they are smart these days. They get them because they are viscious and merciless. You can't get ahead in todays market just by what you can do. You have to be able to market yourself, and frankly, the people who are best at marketting themselves are not the best at doing the frickin' job.

Also, Bush himself didn't create laissez faire, but he definitely follows that doctrine whole-heartedly, while sticking government's ugly nose into every private affair it can (gay marriage, religion, sexual behavior, etc.) In this era of 'gvmt hands-off', we have assaults on Net Neutrality (i.e. "We're gonna hit the cash cow three times. First for the company's inbound pipe to the 'net, then the customers link to the 'net, then just for the hell of it, we are gonna charge the company with the link to the 'net again, even though they already paid someone, possibly us, for their pipe to the internet!"), assualts on a city's right to let its residents decide how they will have telephone and internet service ran to them (anti-muni broadband, assaults on franchise agreements), assaults on Fair Use rights ("No! You cannot take your new CD and rip an MP3 to store on your computer, a second one for your MP3 player, a mix of songs you burn to CD, or even a backup copy of your music. If you want a CD and a MP3 for your player, you have to buy it twice!!! And if your CD gets scratched, well you have to buy it again! We bought and paid for the Digital Millineum Copyright Act, so there!"), and assaults on workers rights (Overtime cuts, cuts to OSHA). And this is just the TIP of the iceberg. Maybe there is a reason he left the States.

Job2: worked for 8 monthss on plotting my escape to better places from the sweat shop America, eventhough I am college-educated and smart.

Please! Just because someone is college educated does not mean the’re smart. Anybody who has worked in corporate America for long knows dozens and dozens of college educated morons committing intellectual fraud on their employers.

Allow me to let you into a little secret: If you provide economic value in excess of the cost to employ you plus a required return on investment then you will prosper in America. That bar isn’t very high. If you provide much more economic value than your cost then you will excel. If a certain company does not adhere to these basic economic realities then they will go out of business unless they are a monopoly, an oligopoly, a quasi government agency or a company in a socialist country being proped up by said country.

Once upon a time, your belief was correct. Today, the only thing big business cares about is keeping as much money in their pockets as possible. Don't believe me? Here's a story for you. My bosses husband worked for Texas Instruments, making firmware. He earned a hundred thou a year, but brought in a million a year. His unit was the unit that was awarded the top performance award for several years in a row. They fired all his co-workers and gave him a choice. Train the replacement team from India (who would each work for 1/5th what he worked for) and take a year severance pay, or be let go without any severance package. Cold hearted bastards.

Job3: I have a nice job in Europe, less pressure, earning more, management more encouraging and government involved in my welfare.

Way to go Bushie!!

Congratulations, OP. I envy you...

Live the dream Jason. You go find a place where you can coast or work your ass off and it won’t make a hill of beans difference…where you are guaranteed your job with government forcing every kind of potential benefit imaginable on your company…where unemployment is 20%…where you have no real chance of starting a business and making it prosperous and where the floor is higher and ceiling is much lower and made of concrete. The ultimate dream of meritocracy. How to shoot for the stars.

Bull effin crap, ya jerk. First of all, don't throw unemployment numbers around, I don't give a hoot about unemployment numbers, especially when they are perfect for cooking the books. Don't believe me? Loose your job. You become part of the unemployed, and are counted as part of that 5.5%. Go hunting. Notice that every job you search for is not paying you as much--either you're getting near your old pay with alot of benefits (such as medical) cut out, or your raw pay is lower, or both! Take the job, and you join the employed again, after a pay-cut. Or better. Hunt, and hunt, and hunt, and no one will touch you. Your unemployment ends. Suddenly, you're not part of the unemployed anymore. This is what is going on today. High paying jobs are gone for lower-paying jobs, and many people are growing despondant about finding employment. All the unemployment numbers are are talking points for you holier-than-thou neocon republicans. Show me the percentage of employable adults working, and show me the median income of the US, and I'll be more impressed.

And I’m sorry, but you’re a moron for suggesting that Bush invented the free enterprise system when he came into office. However, allow me to extend our thanks to you, on behalf of our great nation, for taking deadwood out of our economy and transplanting it into Europe where it belongs. That partially explains the up tick in the GDP as you boarded the plane.

Funny, I saw that the OP suggested that Bush allowed the unfettered free-market model to blossom out of control, not that he invented free-market. And you can take your snide comments about upticks in the GDP and shove them.

Sorry, TP, that you had to see this outburst, but this jerk touched a nerve.

Jay-Thanks for the TruthOut.org. It's nice to see something other than the slamming of positions. While I love TP, sometimes I can't see the forest for the trees, i.e., can't see the story for its comments. And, the president and the ass-hair-for-brains administration and their 5-year-old-like "it's mine, it's mine!! My turn, gimme that" mentality should not be the only focus. There's sooooo much shite going on out there that needs attention, and I think that the whining is a waste of time.
