This is typical of Colon (I know how it is spelled) Powell. He waits until he is out of the administration, when he can do no good and then tells the truth.
Here is a little advice: You’ve already sold your soul to the devil and you are going to hell! Please do not try to make half-hearted attempts to regain any credibility.
#3–I couldn’t agree more. While I’m glad he finally said something, this is the cowardly chicken-shit way to go about it. Wait until you have no power, little influence, and THEN try and clear the guilt.
#3 DITTO
My thoughts exactly. Even the world knows Powell sold out the truth for what ever Bush gave him. No need to come crawling back and try to spin the truth Powell is a liar just like Bush.
Strange coincidence that Powell got food poisoning in Aspen, soon after the disappearance of Ken Lay…in Aspen. I wouldn’t be surprised if Powell falls ill again…he has too much dirt on BushCo.
#1 Excellent link ~ & #3 you’re right. . . . despite whatever success Powell had gained in his life, he didn’t have the inner strength or convictions to stand up when it was necessary. EVERYONE in the world knows it and perhaps even Powell. How risky of him to now stand up and be counted. Powell sold out and forever lost whatever influence he possessed. He will forever be known as the guy who couldn’t stand up for America when it was necessary.
Couldn’t agree more. Everyone thought that with Colon running the State Dept, we’d have credibility and integrity eventhough we were leary of Bush/Cheney. He sold out, copped out and is a disgrace. Good riddance.
#8 and others – I don’t know if it’s fair to cast Gen Powell in that light. I think he did try and air his view, to the best of his ability, during his term as Secretary of State. Because his view was overpowered and not followed should not be construed as a failure to “stand up”.
Personally, my issue with Powell is how he abandoned his own doctrine of overwhelming force.
Perhaps he realizes better than any of the neocons how very close to war crime charges he has placed himself.
Because surely, these neocons, filled with Hubris, will fall. Powell is no fool, and the more distance he can place between himself and the torture supporters, the better he will look in the docket at The hague.
Time is a relative thing, and Americans seem incapable of projecting out two or three years: if it doesn’t happen NOW, they lose interest.
But the hundreds of thousands of neocon victims won’t have that problem.
I wonder why the freepers haven’t accused Powell of being a Traitor for wanting to close the torture centers..or for that matter I wonder why they haven’t called the Bush folks themselves traitors..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~——————–~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finally, the Bush Administration has repeatedly informed the public that they were having great success tracking terrorist financing tracing financial activities “forward” and “backwards”. Mr. Juan Carlos Zarate spilled the beans again in September 2004 during testimony before the House Financial Services Committee. Zarate said:
In addition, we have used the money trail to find the financial footprints of the terrorists. As we have seen, terrorists and their supporters leave identifiable and traceable footprints in the global financial systems, and these footprints must be pursued forward to identify future perpetrators and facilitators. These trails must also be traced backwards to identify and dismantle supporting entities and individuals. As we have done since September 11th, we must attack the sources of funding, follow the money trail, and build safeguards in the financial sectors worldwide to prevent, deter, and dismantle the terrorist infrastructure.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~——————-~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why I have no Idea who these Bush folks, Zarate and the Financial Serivces Committee, but they are Traitors they have exposed the terrorist finance tracking system!! Traitors!
Bushco is like ‘Traitor Inc.’
It’s nice to see so many “stand-up” for America comments. Especially if one considers that hating everything America does and stands for is now known as “standing-up” for America. With such stand up Americans on our side, we should probably start flying the Al Queda flag and take down old glory.
I don’t know if it’s fair to cast Gen Powell in that light. I think he did try and air his view, to the best of his ability, during his term as Secretary of State. Because his view was overpowered and not followed should not be construed as a failure to “stand upâ€.
Personally, my issue with Powell is how he abandoned his own doctrine of overwhelming force.
~~~~~~~
wtf?
So you don’t blame powell for being overpowered, by the bush zealots, for his views..yet you go on to blame powell for abandoning his own ‘doctrine’.
Did it occur to you that maybe his “doctrine” was ‘overpowered’, as you say, by bushco as well?
Oh, and BTW and this ‘flip flopping doctrine’ should not be construed as a ‘failure’ to ’stand up’ or ‘waffling’….
Amen #3! I TOTALLY agree! Colin LIED to take us to war too, and he sucks BIG TIME! I am sooo disappointed in him! They are building another Gitmo ANYWAY! That is ONLY reason WHY they want Gitmo closed, and I will bet my last dollar HALLIBURTON IS ONE BUILDING NEW GITMO! He/they don’t say STOP torture PERIOD! Just close Gitmo! Colin is war criminal TOO! He knowningly took us to war over lies,lies and more lies! He told Senator Biden that AFTER BOTH of them got out of office he would tell him the truth about Iraq war, which Biden ALREADY KNEW BUSH LIED! THEY BOTH ARE PURE TRAITORS,PERIOD! IF Colin wants to REALLY make amends, he needs to come CLEAN about gov’t involvement in 9-11! YES, 9-11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB,SHEEP! RESEARCH IT! THEY LIED ABOUT EVERYTHING ELSE, WHAT MAKES YOU STUPID SHEEP THINK THEY ARE NOT LYING ABOUT 9-11, TOO? THEY LIED ABOUT EVERYTHING ELSE! THEY ARE LYING ABOUT 9-11 TOO! BIG TIME! IT WAS AN INSIDE JOB, PERIOD! LOTS OF EVIDENCE!
GITMO must be closed down, but Colin Powell helped to cause its creation, by being a stooge for the Bush Regime! He is trying to save his own butt now, but Colin already sold his worthless soul to the devil!
I do think that some of the comments on this site have gone into the realm of insults and “revenge fantasy” rather than constructive criticism/intelligent discourse. This has been getting worse and worse over the last month or so.
I’d rather not see this site go down the same path as some of the conservative blogs/news sites. I hoped we were better than that…
On topic, I wish Powell had been a bit more vocal in his disagreement with the administration while he was part of it…however, at this point I’m still happy he is making a statement now. Many people in the middle and some Republicans still respect his opinion and perhaps this will get some folks to listen, or at least think a bit more clearly about the issue.
I was about to comment that this one time, we should accept the message, despite the messanger. But then I read Sue’s comment:
He/they don’t say STOP torture PERIOD! Just close Gitmo!
Excellent point. And I would not be surprised if you’re 100% correct about Halliburten. They have, in fact constructed detention camps in the U.S. under the pretense that they’ll be used to house vast numbers of terrorists (read, anyone opposed to the Bush administration).
What really happened on 9/11 is a hot button issue here. But like you, I’ve read far too much to dismiss out-of-hand the possibility of an inside job.
#10- Chase- Powell was Secretary of State, not Secretary of Defense. He had no say in how the invasion was conducted. And all advice, and suggestions and opinions that Rummy didn’t agree with were ignored, and some of those who dared to speak in public were fired for their trouble. Powell did not abandon his ‘Doctrine’, Rummy dismissed it entirely. And he continues to ‘make it up’ as he goes, addressing problems only after he can no longer deny that they exist. And he is really stubborn that way. Look how long it took for him to admit that there was an insurgency in Iraq. I believe he called them “Dead Enders”, and kept trying to minimize their impact.
Matt > once somebody has whored for the Bush Regime, and lied to the entire nation as well for them, then their integrity has been destroyed! Colin is more interested in trying to save his own skin > “once a liar always a liar”!
#15 – Cool Breeze – Powell’s viewwas overpowered. He was outnumbered, out powered.
His previously expressed beliefs – those being the use of overwhelming force, utilizing all resources to achieve military victory – were seemingly abandoned. For that reason, I fault him.
Regardless of Colin Powell’s past, we do have to accept that there are those on the right who revere him, and if he is saying this, we should be happy about it.
He might help convince a few more on the right that the neocons have stolen their party and they should be upset about what they are doing to the country that the conservatives love.
Any time any conservative speaks out against the ills of the Republican Party, it’s a good thing for the left.
Who knows, maybe Colin is starting to feel guilty for his actions? That can only be good for the Democrats as he speaks out against the actions of the Bush Regime.
Colin Powell will forever have to live with the repercussions of his choices. When you look into his eyes, you can see the toll it has taken upon him. That he is trying to undo some of the damage he helped cause is commendable.
I, for one, forgive him. I truely believe he felt he did the best he could under the circumstances. He was outmanouvered and out-gunned by the Cheney-Rumsfeld juggernaut and defeated. And on top of that failure, he has been vilified (perhaps rightfully so).
Yet, when a man, or woman, sees the error of their ways and seeks to make amends, can we not help them? If General Powell now wants to do the right thing, can we not welcome him with open arms?
Which is the path of love? To continue to shun and vilify, or to forgive and accept? I urge you once again to look inside your hearts. In the struggle against the hate and lust for power epitomized by the right, we must turn to all who would be allies, even a broken retired general.
I choose to forgive and accept, and I welcome General Powell with open arms. Will you join me?
22. No, that can be considered constructive discourse, good discussion about suspected criminal activities and how to hold people responsible for their actions is one of the things I look forward to one this site.
It is the petty name calling, threats of violence (not necessarily in this thread…yet) and other nonsense that is starting to make this site less useful.
25. You are probably right, however, at this point I’ll take what I can get. If some of the more moderate Republicans still respect what Powell is saying, I’ll encourage him to speak out against the administration’s policies until some war crimes trials start up. He may be covering his own deeds, but since he hasn’t been charged with anything…let him keep talking.
#24 – Secretary of State has almost unparalled influence over the exercise of our foreign policy, including military action.
From what I’ve been able to discern, when planning a strategy in Iraq, Powell advocated caution and less-than-total ground invasion. To me, this clearly flies in the face of his 1991 Iraq strategy.
Thinking more, I guess I’m curious why folks here are so quick to chastize Powell for expressing the exact opinion so many want to hear.
Becuase he didn’t effectively argue his position when he was Sec of State?
How about the numerous retired generals who are now coming out in opposition to Iraq? Why no criticism there? Shouldn’t they have spoken up before they retired?
I choose to forgive and accept, and I welcome General Powell with open arms. Will you join me?
Comment by Briseadh na Faire — July 8, 2006 @ 11:49 am
I’m not exactly going to forgive and most especially not forget…but I will encourage him to speak out more against the administration policies that he disagrees with. The more of that he does now the better. It will difficult for some of the pundits to call him a “crazy lefty” or whatever the current insult is, so it can only help keep Gitmo in people’s hearts and minds as the discussion and the “war” continues.
and, i should give two shits about what colin powell thinks…now, years after, had he any pride, he would have not LIED and assisted in the MURDER of tens of thousands???
My feelings are mixed on Powell, in part its pity, in part a bit of a lack of respect, but also sadness. The poor SOB should have known what he was getting into, he should have realised what sort of marionette dance he was going to be doing, but somehow, ambition blinded him.
I can forgive Powell, but I am not altogether sure I can respect Powell.
Cool Breeze, regarding the previous TP post: I know there were a lot of comments to read through, but my now (in)famous post was in response to comments 28 and 30
Is there a time scheduled for the trolls to weigh in on the latest leak? Can’t wait to hear the excuses, but I see they’re not here yet.
Comment by Lily
Why don’t we do troll impressions? See how close we can come to the real thing!
Comment by Zooey
It’s sometimes hard not to care what people think, and I definitely don’t want to leave you with the wrong impression (pun not intended this time) of me.
#32- Is that so? I was not aware of that. Should we be watching Condi for an indication of what military actions we are likely to be facing in the near future? We all know that she and GWB do work very closely with each other, and I would say that she has far more influence with GWB than Colin Powell ever did. Thanks for the ‘heads up’ on who we need to be watching for what our next move will be. Good to know.
hmmm… so, a bunch of neocon reichwingers gathered at the Aspen Ideas Festival this week… and this is when and where ken lay has his heart attack…
oh, i don’t know… just thinking…
Post 39 > that pretty much sums it up on Powell for me too! He knew what he was getting into by helping Bush to occupy Iraq for nefarious unjustified reasons! He says now that he was actually against it, but he willingly lied to the UN and the Congress too about it! If he wants to ask forgiveness, and spill ALL the beans on the Bush Regime, then that is a good start, but if this is just an attempt to save his political career, then he deserves damnation! Forgive him if you want, but NEVER vote for him to be in any political position again!
I can’t believe I’m going to agree with Chase on something, but he does have a point that when we speak out against the Bush Regime, we are labeled and dismissed for our perspective as ‘communists and infidels’ – but when a conservative speaks out against their own party – they cannot simply be dismissed as a ‘crazy librul’…
I’m sure Powell will be dismissed for other reasons, but it makes those who criticize their conservative ‘war hero’ look less trustworthy and loyal – after all, they once thought highly enough of the man to appoint him to their cabinet. A lot harder for them to take and defend criticism from their own. Kinda like your own family calling you out.
I’m not religious, so I really don’t think forgiveness is required. Just don’t turn your anger for Powell’s actions internally. Otherwise, it makes us less credible. Makes us seem emotional and vengeful. Makes us seem like the very things we stand against.
Implosion of the Republican Party is starting to happen. We just have to encourage it by remaining rational and level-headed – and be willing to accept the change of heart from even Colin Powell.
I did answer you.
No I can’t say that you have ever called another poster a name,and that is good of you.
But to post a Seixon parody to get approval is probably below your normal standard.
Maybe you were just tired as you claimed.
You seem like a nice person,so no offense meant.
katy, did you see this regarding ken ‘jesus christ’ lay?
Lawson will speak July 9 in Aspen at a private memorial service for Lay’s family. He said the family plans to cremate and bury Lay’s remains in Aspen. Another service will be held July 12 in Houston. Lawson said he hopes to comfort the family with the thought that history can rehabilitate a person’s image.
“I plan to tell them this is not the first time somebody good has been falsely accused and even crucified,” Lawson said today in an interview before leaving for Aspen.
“Just like Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy, my hope is that people will view Ken Lay in a much more positive light after his death. Even though people say he’s a robber and a crook and that it’s a good thing he’s dead, we have the right to tell his family we’ve seen this (vilification) before, and history can be kind.”
i predict aspen will become the neoconservative jerusalem…
what did Neil Young say about Colin Powell in his song? Something about righting the wrong he has done?
Mr. Powell this is too little too late. You should have spoke up but chose to keep quiet. We don’t want to hear it now. Now the American public has figured this all out by themselves. You were in a position to do something, like speaking the TRUTH, but chose to keep quiet.
#41 – Do you really believe the Sec of State is not in on every decision related to foreign policy? They may not get their way at every turn but they certainly have a seat near the head of the table.
#44 – I think people, even within the current administration, can honestly disagree with some of Powell’s positions without jeaporidizing their “trustworthiness” or “loyalty”. He has been appointed to myriad high-level positions in large part due to the depth and rigor with which he analyizes situations.
yes, i completely agree with sybil. to mock another by stealing their identity for the purposes of mockery is below the standards that we have so carefully set. and, to take the great nowegian brother as a victim is intolerable!!!!
shame on you, lily!
well, i must run…ken lay’s jet should be landing at westchester in a short while and i have to get the blood out of the refrigerator and get down to the caymans for a short ‘break’ from my hectic schedule….
ken, if you are reading this, i am on the way, big boy…
I think people, even within the current administration, can honestly disagree with some of Powell’s positions without jeaporidizing their “trustworthiness†or “loyaltyâ€. He has been appointed to myriad high-level positions in large part due to the depth and rigor with which he analyizes situations.
Comment by Chase — July 8, 2006 @ 12:39 pm
Well, that didn’t last long.
I disagree, and think you contradicted yourself in your own post. I think the Bush Regime is in serious trouble and to bash a man like Colin Powell, who is considered a war hero in many conservative circles, will only do them more harm. So, frankly, I hope they call him names. The deeper they dig their own grave, the less likely that their soon to be rotting corpses will stink up the place…
no, i missed that james… did hear there would be a cremation… no surprise…
but this:“Just like Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy, my hope is that people will view Ken Lay in a much more positive light after his death.”
IS ALMOST BLASPHEMOUS…
Where was this truthful observance when Colin was in Stae? I think it’s great that Colin has brought his influential opinion to light on this issue in urging that Gitmo be shut down. But it’s a bit late to be trashing Gitmo now. Colin sold out a long time ago. But will the right now call him a traitorous liberal?
#50-Chase- I did not say that I did not believe what you said. I said I was unaware of what you were telling me. And I wanted to know if we should be watching Condi for clues, that’s all. Sheesh.
”Ann Coulter” is actually James Risser trying to get attention for his Coulter blog.
Sometimes I’m not sure how to take his sarcasm,so don’t take #51 personally.
Whatever degree of legitimacy/credibility you may wish to assign to Powell, he makes a point that needs to be made at a time when Republican lawmakers are flooding the airwaves with the false choice between “keep the Gitmo status quo at all costs” or “let all terrorists go free”.
Initially, I wasn’t going to answer the question about my name, but I’ve reconsidered. Lily is a nickname I’ve had for many years. Most people I’m close to are familiar with it, though most “acquaintences” are not. I do use it consistently in any on-line communications. (chat rooms in years past, MMORPGs, posts such as TP, etc.) I suppose it’s my way of not sharing too much information with people I don’t actually know.
Man, this is huge. This is the most damning thing that’s come out of Powell’s corner since Larry Wilkerson.
I have to give the man props for having the courage to come out and saying…
Hey, what’s that sound? It sounds like… like… the engine of a Swiftboat being started up!
Regarding atrocities against the Iraqi people, here’s a number for ya’ll: $2533.33. That’s what an Iraqi life goes for these days, according to the investigation into the war crimes in Haditha.
Payback against the senior military officers who’d turned a blind and collusive eye: Priceless.
Powell had the weight of 911 behind him. He could have said Osama = Saudi with Saudi and Pakistani support…. 911 attackers = Sauids with Saudi and Pakistani support… Saudi “charities” … Saudi and Pakistani “religious” schools … Nuclear WMDs being sold to the highest bidder by Pakistan…. You want your Iraq war? FINE! But 911 comes first! All Americans including Powell has the right to DEMAND that the republicans do more than Afghanistan as a response to 911 …Who cares if PNAC/Bush wanted Saddam … hire an assasin or something … America had 911 to take care of .. and we got derailed because the Saudis make the BushCo rich.
You didn’t consider Judd much of a witness whenever I told you to ask him if I was anyone except unbelievable. Funny how you think it’s now valid for you to invoke him.
You’re the main suspect. You’re the only one who changes names and has posed as other posters. I am sure that it is you. As you told me – prove it isn’t you.
You people that use these boards for back and forth flaming are self-absorbed and selfish. You’re the same type of people that insist of foisting their cellphone conversations upon everyone within a 20-foot radius. If you’re a right-winger then you take glee in disrupting this site. If you’re on the left and respond to this childishness, you obviously hasn’t found the shutoff valve for the stupid gas the right is inhaling. Wise up.
Just one day after President Bush forcefully defended his insistence on multilateral negotiations with North Korea, the White House has apparently okayed direct talks with envoys from Pyongyang.
Speaking in Seoul on Saturday, Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill, Bush’s point man on discussions with the North Koreans, signaled his willingness to meet directly with Kim Jong Il’s emissaries once the stalled six-party talks resume.
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell Addresses the U.N. Security Council POWELL: The gravity of this moment is matched by the gravity of the threat that Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction pose to the world. Let me now turn to those deadly weapons programs and describe why they are real and present dangers to the region and to the world.
First, biological weapons. We have talked frequently here about biological weapons. By way of introduction and history, I think there are just three quick points I need to make.
First, you will recall that it took UNSCOM four long and frustrating years to pry–to pry–an admission out of Iraq that it had biological weapons.
Second, when Iraq finally admitted having these weapons in 1995, the quantities were vast. Less than a teaspoon of dry anthrax, a little bit about this amount–this is just about the amount of a teaspoon–less than a teaspoon full of dry anthrax in an envelope shutdown the United States Senate in the fall of 2001. This forced several hundred people to undergo emergency medical treatment and killed two postal workers just from an amount just about this quantity that was inside of an envelope.
William Cohen justifying the ongoing bombing and preparing the American public for war with Iraq, ABC This Week, Nov 16, 1997 interview:
“It’s important when we talk about weapons of mass destruction that we translate into something that the American people, and hopefully, the world community can understand.
“For example, when we talk about Anthrax — Anthrax, if you took a five-pound bag of sugar and accept — call this Anthrax {producing a 5-pound bag of Domino® table sugar from under the interview table}. This amount of Anthrax could be spread over a city — let’s say the size of Washington. It would destroy at least half the population of that city.”
Undersecretary of State Thomas Pickering, August 25 1998 on the al Shifa-al Qaeda-Iraq connection:
Q: Ambassador Pickering, do you know of any connection between the so-called pharmaceutical plant in Khartoum and the Iraqi government in regard to production of precursors of VX?
PICKERING: Yeah, I would like to consult my notes just to be sure that what I have to say is stated clearly and correctly. We see evidence that we think is quite clear on contacts between Sudan and Iraq. In fact, al Shifa officials, early in the company’s history, we believe were in touch with Iraqi individuals associated with Iraq’s VX program.
Ambassador Bill Richardson, in an appearance on CNN’s “Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer,†on August 30, 1998.
“We know for a fact, physical evidence, soil samples of VX precursor–chemical precursor at the site,†said Richardson. “Secondly, Wolf, direct evidence of ties between Osama bin Laden and the Military Industrial Corporation–the al Shifa factory was part of that. This is an operation–a collection of buildings that does a lot of this dirty munitions stuff. And, thirdly, there is no evidence that this precursor has a commercial application. So, you combine that with Sudan support for terrorism, their connections with Iraq on VX, and you combine that, also, with the chemical precursor issue, and Sudan’s leadership support for Osama bin Laden, and you’ve got a pretty clear cut case.â€
Richard Clarke writes in his book, Against All Enemies: Inside America’s War on Terror about the Iraqi VX found at al Shifa by the CIA:
“EMPTA is a compound that had been used as a prime ingredient in Iraqi nerve gas. It had no other known use, nor had any other nation employed EMPTA to our knowledge for any purpose.”
What a sad, pathetic man is Colin Powell. I can’t imagine what it would be like being him and feeling remorseful for aiding and abetting the Bush administration in all of the horrors of mass death, destruction and for increasing the hate and suffering in the world. What a heavy, heavy burder to have to carry for eternity.
The Clinton Administration officials were, in hindsight, exaggerating the threat that Iraq posed. Perhaps they were doing it to make political points. Perhaps they were attempting to defend the decision to bomb what turned out to be a hospital if I recall correctly. Perhaps their intelligence was bad. Maybe all three.
But their actions and speeches do NOT in any way justify what Bush has done. It is well-known that he went into Iraq and bad and cooked intelligence. I knew this and so did many others before the invasion. The blood of the dead Iraqis and Americans is on his and his cronies’ hands.
Chase: I deeply and seriously question the concept of “overwhelming force”. What do you mean by this? And can you envision a scenario that would not leave behind embittered relatives who would raise their boys to be the future “terrorists” or “insurgents”, battling in guerilla warfare, using suicide bombers, kidnapping and torturing individual Americans, or whatever else they could do to hurt us in the future?
If you’re on the left and respond to this childishness, you obviously hasn’t found the shutoff valve for the stupid gas the right is inhaling. Wise up.
Here’s a tip – skip over what you don’t like. Life isn’t always butterflies and picnics. I refuse to not stand up to bullies, or people who think this sort of behaviour is acceptible. It’s what has gotten the left into trouble. Letting the right think it’s okay to behave the way they do, while we sit silently by.
You can keep your sanctimony to yourself as well. Chastizing grown adults doesn’t exactly make you the beacon of ideals you spout, you know.
The best I can say is better late than never.
If he had to leave office before he found his voice – then he should have left office a long time ago.
He sold his soul when he joined Bush&Co. His legacy will forever be tarnished. And anything he says now will be met with cynicism.
This is the fourth and final time I’m going to say this:
I did not write # 63;I haven’t even repeated it.
What you are not telling about the Sharon Cox issue is that I put ”PARODY” right at the top of it.And then I told Zooey it was me two posts later.
Now,I know that you and I have gone a round or three,with some mean things said from both of us;but know this–I did not write # 63;if I had,I would admit it.
#91 – By “overwhelming force”, Powell means using every resource the US has at it’s disposal to achieve our military goals. Gen Powell has said this doctrine is the natural result of what he saw during Vietnam – a failure to use all available resources led to mission drift and, eventually, mission failure.
In the lead-up to the First Gulf War, Powell advocated sanctions and military build-up rather than invasion. However, once he recognized that would not be the American plan, taking from his Vietnam experience, advocated “overwhelming force”.
In the lead-up to the current war in Iraq, Gen Powell advocated, again, the continuation of sanctions and containment (a policy, I might add, was failing in Iraq). Once, again, he recognized his proposal would not win out, he began the process of building an international coalition (you can judge his success yourself).
To those of you who don’t know how the Guantanamo Naval Base came to be:
After the 1898 Spanish-American War ended (Cubans do not accept the name), the US agreed to leave Cuba only, and only, if: Cuba accepted the Platt Ammendment to its Constitution (look it up), and was granted rights to hold as many refueling stations on Cuban soil (coal) as they deemed were necessary at the time. Under the GUN, Cuba accepted the demanded conditions, and that’s how Gitmo was born. In 1933, when Cubans overthrew the US backed Machado dictatorship, the US demanded that in order to accept that the Platt Ammendment should be taken out of the Cuban Constitution, the US Guantanamo Naval Base had to to granted a 99 year lease subject to each side having the right to say when the lease was due!. Again, Cubans had to acccept the orders of the Empire, until 1959 when Fidel Castro won!
Try and do to him, what other Cubans have had to endure! I dare you!
Guantanamo is an illegal US prison situated on Cuban soil that has been claimed by Cuba for over 100 years.
Colin Powell sold out the soverign government of Haiti right after he said the US would defend it. He is the son of West Indies immigrants. Harry Belafonte had this guy nailed. His whole history is shameful. “I serve at the honor of the President” Nice sense of honor from a career suck up.
So, tx, az, ca, have been claimed by mexico for over 100 years.
Comment by Barbera — July 8, 2006 @ 10:16 pm
Well, Texas was mexican territory and it was taken by US army. Mexicans dont reclaim that in vane. Just to add, you take a great part of what you call today US from american natives. You people are a dangerous virus. Shut up.
Sorry Juan, didnt know you were so sensitive, I’m part native american, actually on a roll call, means I get money twice a year. Didn’t see your argument about the spanish in mexico?
Thank you for your reply. However, it doesn’t really answer my question.
What does “overwhelming force” translate to, in practical terms? 500,000 boots on the ground? Air strikes? Nuclear bombing? The problem with the last one is that you lay waste to territory and you have fallout which certainly affects surrounding areas. The problem with all three is that many innocent people are killed.
Also, what is the practical result? Do you really conquer the people against which you use this “overwhelming force”? I don’t think you do. I’m talking about when you are the invading force, such as we have been in Iraq during this war. In this situation, the locals rightly perceive themselves to be the wronged ones. You would have to kill off entire populations, to get rid of people who would raise the next generation to take revenge on you. I’m not sure that is feasible today, if it ever was. Other peoples will take a look at this, and if they are not currently strong enough to take you out, they will be sufficiently alarmed and angry that they will build up their own armaments and ally with others and will wait for opportunities to take you out. Or they will conduct guerilla warfare, as we did on the British during our own War of Indepedence, and as the Iraqis are doing today.
To me, “overwhelming force” is a buzz phrase which doesn’t even begin to take the long view on likelihood of longterm success, and which ignores the fact that it would result in thousands, perhaps millions of deaths of fellow human beings who were in no way aggressors and who have just as much right to live their lives out free from harm as any American does.
And PLEASE don’t bring up WWII! The HUGE difference which supporters of the Iraq War keep on avoiding is that Japan, Germany, and Italy were the aggressors. And especially in the case of Germany, occupiers of countries who didn’t want them there. We were helping them throw off the yoke of a foreign oppressor, so of course they welcomed us. Even the Germans and Japanese did to a certain extent because the more rational among them recognized that they were the aggressors.
Saddam is a nasty brutish evil man, but he was the Iraqis’ man. He wasn’t a foreign invader. They didn’t ask for this invasion, it wasn’t warranted, and they are not better off now. And I don’t think “overwhelming force” would have accomplished more than a shortterm “victory”.
I’m part native american, actually on a roll call, means I get money twice a year. Didn’t see your argument about the spanish in mexico?
Comment by Barbera — July 8, 2006 @ 10:48 pm
So natives were wiped up and you talk about how you get money twice a year. I dont know what to say, really. Of course, I did. You see me celebrating october 12th?
Poor Juan, my people took a little time to come back, but we’re not your typical welfare case. We take it back, I’m really kinda proud of our leadership. Does mexico send you a check?
#76 Powell had the weight of 911 behind him. He could have said Osama = Saudi with Saudi and Pakistani support…. 911 attackers = Sauids with Saudi and Pakistani support… Saudi “charities†… Saudi and Pakistani “religious†schools … Nuclear WMDs being sold to the highest bidder by Pakistan…. You want your Iraq war? FINE! But 911 comes first! All Americans including Powell has the right to DEMAND that the republicans do more than Afghanistan as a response to 911 …Who cares if PNAC/Bush wanted Saddam … hire an assasin or something … America had 911 to take care of .. and we got derailed because the Saudis make the BushCo rich.
Comment by Gerald Gibson
I agree completely what I find astonishing right now is how pathetic the mainstream media in your country has become. The fact that there are enormous problems with voting machines and issues allowing minorities access to vote should be front page news instead it is there is no public discourse. It seems all of these people have reasons to let Bush stay in power and damn the public intrest.
Am I a mexican, now? You inferred this by my name? You have to go out some more…or grab a map.
I’m really kinda proud of our leadership. Does mexico send you a check?
Comment by Barbera — July 8, 2006 @ 11:01 pm
You should. If killing thousands of natives makes you proud, you also should be proud with your leadership, right now: thousand of iraqi and afghan civilians and 2538 soldiers appreciate your consistency in your opinions.
Dear Juan, please dont start crying, but I dont think anyone here had anything to do with what you said. Just as no one here had anything to do with the slave trade. Your pointing to the 2538 soldiers, making a point? How many of these soldiers did you know? I know a few personally and they were good people… guess what Juan they wanted to be there….
Now I have to know soldiers to know that they surely want to live and fight for good causes instead of protecting the 11% of fossil fuels reservoirs in the world for some rich guys? You said you were proud of your leadership…stick to the consequences of your pride. You are proud of an illegal war which goal is, let me surprise you, NOT your interests, but those of very rich, selected people? If the answer is: yeah, you bet I am!, then I am really sorry for the people you knew cause you are not making them a big favor by supporting more dead people. If the answer is no, I apologize, I should not put that comment.
Juan, your so full of shit. How do you live with yourself? You want to say how many troops died but, in rality you dont care. You just want to bitch. oct 12 was the key. Glad you have your green card.
Murray on Gitmo
By: John Amato @ 12:45 PM – PDT
Murray Waas is blogging about Gitmo, which includes Colin Powell, McCaffrey, and David Ignatius. Jeralyn says that Bush claimed the Supreme Court backed him up. It didn’t.
Waas also brings up the point about a Scooter Libby pardon .
Glad you have your green card.
Comment by Barbera — July 8, 2006 @ 11:57 pm
Wrong, racist. I do not live in the land of Ronald McDonald (your McNuggets are safe from another “brownie”). Why I wouldnt care about people dying? Why would you have an opinion about who I care or not? You brought up the issue about taking land violently from others, (according to you, brownies reclaiming what they owned in the first place). You brought up the spanish (which gives you some credit about your elementary education) and then I told that I didnt agree with that either (the conquest of Mesoamerica by spaniards). And then you began with John Wayne´s propaganda about how proud you are of America (which by the way, is the name for the whole continent, not just for your country), and the technology and that I am a mexican…
Take a plane, visit some countries, talk to people and educate yourself. Stop watching The Dukes of Hazzard.
Been there done that, your the racist. What have you said? Sorry you have had a bad life, but if you have a green card and no education what do you expect?
Post 114 Juan > there is a NEW thread above this one on Mexican election! I am posting on that one now, so ignore the bigots on here! I am fighting for Obrador to become president of Mexico!
Oh, sorry you like John Wayne… by the way he’s dead. Sorry Honey your’r howling up the wrong skirt, I have a doctorate (paid by the tribe) I saw who you were with your language. Tell pancho hello
I wasn’t aware you had to live in the United States for your concern for your fellow man to be relevant. (someone really ought to tell Seixon.)
Racist? You have no idea.
No, you’re the one that has no idea. I was pointing out your inability to differentiate between the contraction and the possessive. Whoever sold you that ‘doctorate’ owes you $9.95.
How did you come to that realizaton? Don’t you think that someone who calls themselves ‘Juan C’ might live somewhere besides Mexico? And this is the person who asserted that I didn’t know the meaning of the word ‘racist’.
You really are dangerously stupid. Of course, you do realize that ‘Juan C’ is his signon name here, and may not necessarily even reflect his actual name? Or do you think that ‘Seixon’ is a real name, and that ‘ann coulter’ and ‘karl rove’ are regular posters here? And what harebraned conclusions do you jump to when you see the name ‘TripMaster Monkey’?
wants to discuss my heratage
Actually, no….the only one who seems to want to discuss your (apocryphal ) heritage is YOU.
I think you should elect him.
How can I? Unlike you, I haven’t made a totally unsubstantiated inference of his country of origin.
TripMaster Monkey
Your post was really enlightningt, but stupid. Dear old Juan left enought clues, which you chose not to follow. You sir: are a racist.
# 116 Hey, Jay! Yeah, I read it. Very, very interesting. Really surprising that you take notice on mexican election. Look, I am really suspicious about any government, letf and right. But, in any case, I prefer somehow left governments than this right wing cartoon presidency and, of course, the one that has won oficially. It was, among, progressive thinkers here in Mexico (If I am allowed to be considered that) that a fraudulent election would happen. It was pretty much like your past elections, where people with good intentions voted for Bush out of fear. Same here. It is an old idea and very good propaganda against left governments the excuse of investments flying out of the country and the sudden drop of jobs (as if it wasnt happening right now). Summarizing, in my opinion, there was a fraud, of course, cause right wing had the state apparatus and, now, the votes will be counted one by one…but I am pesimistic.
Barbera: Whats with the green card stuff, anyway? That was a really racist comment. No, I dont have one, never wanted one. Your dick must be really small (metaphorically speaking) if you have to bring a “doctorate” into the discussion.
I am really sorry, Dr.
Now, I have to respect people with a PhD just because they got one? And what if have one? Do you tell everybody: I have a doctorate, please, do not make fun of me? That was really pathetic.
Elect me for what? What pills are you taking? Lets get back to the point, shall we? How can you be proud of a government that has lied to you in order to engage a war that is already lost? You, my friend, are a murderer supporter.
Juan > If Obrador can have all the ballots recounted properly, then he can still become the president of Mexico! Calderon has Bush Regime advisors helping him, so they are trying to make Obrador look like a loser, when actually he is the winner! They pulled that stunt in Florida in 2000 and made Gore look like the loser > he should have fought like Obrador!
You’re not even making sense anymore. Been hitting the Boone’s Farm a little hard tonight? Or are you inhaling solvents in a manner inconsistent with its labeling?
Go brew some coffee, and don’t come back until you can type a cogent sentence.
I think ‘Barbera’ is our friend, ‘Sybil”. What a rude little bugger it is, too. But for a while longer, free speech is the rule in America. No one has to like everything, thank goodness, but ALL should be free to say what they want, no matter how pointless it appears to be, to any observers, who can just scroll past it, if they want to. I just wish I didn’t feel embarrassed by/for the cruel ones. Oh well…
You just proved that you don’t pay attention to what you read.
You need to get your head out of unbelievable’s ass,and start thinking for yourself.
I’m not Barbera;so if you have any integrity.you would apoligise.
#140- The location of my head is really no concern of yours, but thanks for caring. And I did not say that you are ‘it’, but that I thought you might be. I am sorry that that upset you. Maybe ‘it’ is trying to leave that impression by emulating your writing style.
Just like if you had any you should appologise to unbelievable for your accusations. What is good for the goose…
I’m a South African, and by buying American goods I can create American jobs. My country, as a neutral state, can lend America money thereby helping to take it away from the threat posed by the Chinese debt, and the businesses of my country can help America by not branching into producing the same products as America. Medical, coal-to-petrol conversion, and mining advances from South Africa (Chris Barnard, Sasol, our local gold mining interests respectively) have all contributed to the high standard of living Americans enjoy.
And my country is a third world country that is a fair distance from yours.
To call the rest of the world irrelevant, more exposes your own personal stupidity and ignorance then anything else.
Gitmo does not need to be closed for me. I would just change the ‘target population’ to politicians who make false claims while in office…. No need to limit yourself to US politicians, you can come jail the European liars as well. Have them sent to Cuba, make them feel the utility of international law from first row. Bush, Powell, Rice, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld… don’t forget to waterboard ‘m for the truth!
Bruce is right. You owe me about a thousand apologies for all the times you falsely accused me of being other people, lying about my life and career, and insulting me for no reason other than you felt like it. You were wrong all those times. I am none of those people, am honest about my life and career, and you read my posts with the wrong tone if you read venom and vile. You also owe apologies to Cyra and Jules and Zoo and Bruce and Sharon and Wayne for insulting them because they are my allies.
But, I’ll bet, from your past behaviour that you only see when you’ve been wronged, and never when you’ve wronged others. And you’ve wronged me and others in here a lot.
What you are not telling about the Sharon Cox issue is that I put ‘’PARODY’’ right at the top of it.And then I told Zooey it was me two posts later.
Actually, the fact that you denied i, as well as being Denny, which you’ve now admitted to because the Sharon Cox parody was done as Denny, is proof that you are most capable and most inclined to spoof me. I’m even more convinced it was you.
And, as I see, you are incapable of apologizing for accusing me falsely. I knew it.
I’m going back to ignoring you. You’re not worth the energy.
Then ignore this,unbelievable.
I now think that YOU are Syphlis Sybil.
Who else would sniff out a distant thread like that if you had not just dropped a load there.
I also think YOU wrote # 63 to get some attention for yourself.
If you are going to demand an apology for a given behaviour on the basis of integrity, then you had better be prepared to apologise for those times you have exhibited the same behaviour.
Or maybe you know about Syphlis Sybil than you are letting on.
But unlike unb.,when I figure out I’ve been wrong,I’ll admit it.
I don’t know who Syp. Syb. is,but right now she is suspect:unless you know more than you admitted yesterday.
Probably not. Your tendency to accuse other posters of using multiple aliases in order to insult you, or Seixon, would probably attract a certain degree of trolls deciding to insult you. Trolls are, after all, opportunistic feeders.
Besides that, I honestly think if unbelievable wanted to get you she would have been a lot nastier then that. Those posts are purile, and in their inanity, not really very good insults.
July 8th, 2006 at 10:20 amThis is typical of Colon (I know how it is spelled) Powell. He waits until he is out of the administration, when he can do no good and then tells the truth.
Here is a little advice: You’ve already sold your soul to the devil and you are going to hell! Please do not try to make half-hearted attempts to regain any credibility.
July 8th, 2006 at 10:23 am#3–I couldn’t agree more. While I’m glad he finally said something, this is the cowardly chicken-shit way to go about it. Wait until you have no power, little influence, and THEN try and clear the guilt.
Strange coincidence that Powell got food poisoning in Aspen, soon after the disappearance of Ken Lay…in Aspen. I wouldn’t be surprised if Powell falls ill again…he has too much dirt on BushCo.
July 8th, 2006 at 10:37 am#1 Excellent link ~ & #3 you’re right. . . . despite whatever success Powell had gained in his life, he didn’t have the inner strength or convictions to stand up when it was necessary. EVERYONE in the world knows it and perhaps even Powell. How risky of him to now stand up and be counted. Powell sold out and forever lost whatever influence he possessed. He will forever be known as the guy who couldn’t stand up for America when it was necessary.
July 8th, 2006 at 10:44 amCouldn’t agree more. Everyone thought that with Colon running the State Dept, we’d have credibility and integrity eventhough we were leary of Bush/Cheney. He sold out, copped out and is a disgrace. Good riddance.
July 8th, 2006 at 10:54 am#8 and others – I don’t know if it’s fair to cast Gen Powell in that light. I think he did try and air his view, to the best of his ability, during his term as Secretary of State. Because his view was overpowered and not followed should not be construed as a failure to “stand up”.
Personally, my issue with Powell is how he abandoned his own doctrine of overwhelming force.
July 8th, 2006 at 10:56 amPerhaps he realizes better than any of the neocons how very close to war crime charges he has placed himself.
Because surely, these neocons, filled with Hubris, will fall. Powell is no fool, and the more distance he can place between himself and the torture supporters, the better he will look in the docket at The hague.
Time is a relative thing, and Americans seem incapable of projecting out two or three years: if it doesn’t happen NOW, they lose interest.
But the hundreds of thousands of neocon victims won’t have that problem.
July 8th, 2006 at 11:01 amI wonder why the freepers haven’t accused Powell of being a Traitor for wanting to close the torture centers..or for that matter I wonder why they haven’t called the Bush folks themselves traitors..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~——————–~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finally, the Bush Administration has repeatedly informed the public that they were having great success tracking terrorist financing tracing financial activities “forward” and “backwards”. Mr. Juan Carlos Zarate spilled the beans again in September 2004 during testimony before the House Financial Services Committee. Zarate said:
In addition, we have used the money trail to find the financial footprints of the terrorists. As we have seen, terrorists and their supporters leave identifiable and traceable footprints in the global financial systems, and these footprints must be pursued forward to identify future perpetrators and facilitators. These trails must also be traced backwards to identify and dismantle supporting entities and individuals. As we have done since September 11th, we must attack the sources of funding, follow the money trail, and build safeguards in the financial sectors worldwide to prevent, deter, and dismantle the terrorist infrastructure.
July 8th, 2006 at 11:05 am~~~~~~~~~~~~~~——————-~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why I have no Idea who these Bush folks, Zarate and the Financial Serivces Committee, but they are Traitors they have exposed the terrorist finance tracking system!! Traitors!
Bushco is like ‘Traitor Inc.’
I can’t wait to hear what O’Rielly, Carlson, Malkin and the rest of the conservative pundits/talk radio folks have to say about this…
July 8th, 2006 at 11:10 amIt’s nice to see so many “stand-up” for America comments. Especially if one considers that hating everything America does and stands for is now known as “standing-up” for America. With such stand up Americans on our side, we should probably start flying the Al Queda flag and take down old glory.
July 8th, 2006 at 11:13 amI don’t know if it’s fair to cast Gen Powell in that light. I think he did try and air his view, to the best of his ability, during his term as Secretary of State. Because his view was overpowered and not followed should not be construed as a failure to “stand upâ€.

~~~~~~~
wtf?
So you don’t blame powell for being overpowered, by the bush zealots, for his views..yet you go on to blame powell for abandoning his own ‘doctrine’.
Did it occur to you that maybe his “doctrine” was ‘overpowered’, as you say, by bushco as well?
Oh, and BTW and this ‘flip flopping doctrine’ should not be construed as a ‘failure’ to ’stand up’ or ‘waffling’….
July 8th, 2006 at 11:14 amWAR CRIMES TRIBUNAL!!!!!!!
July 8th, 2006 at 11:15 amAmen #3! I TOTALLY agree! Colin LIED to take us to war too, and he sucks BIG TIME! I am sooo disappointed in him! They are building another Gitmo ANYWAY! That is ONLY reason WHY they want Gitmo closed, and I will bet my last dollar HALLIBURTON IS ONE BUILDING NEW GITMO! He/they don’t say STOP torture PERIOD! Just close Gitmo! Colin is war criminal TOO! He knowningly took us to war over lies,lies and more lies! He told Senator Biden that AFTER BOTH of them got out of office he would tell him the truth about Iraq war, which Biden ALREADY KNEW BUSH LIED! THEY BOTH ARE PURE TRAITORS,PERIOD! IF Colin wants to REALLY make amends, he needs to come CLEAN about gov’t involvement in 9-11! YES, 9-11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB,SHEEP! RESEARCH IT! THEY LIED ABOUT EVERYTHING ELSE, WHAT MAKES YOU STUPID SHEEP THINK THEY ARE NOT LYING ABOUT 9-11, TOO? THEY LIED ABOUT EVERYTHING ELSE! THEY ARE LYING ABOUT 9-11 TOO! BIG TIME! IT WAS AN INSIDE JOB, PERIOD! LOTS OF EVIDENCE!
July 8th, 2006 at 11:20 amGITMO must be closed down, but Colin Powell helped to cause its creation, by being a stooge for the Bush Regime! He is trying to save his own butt now, but Colin already sold his worthless soul to the devil!
July 8th, 2006 at 11:22 amHarriet Beecher Stowe had Uncle Tom Powell figured out 157 years ago. Things rrally don’t change much when it comes to lying and corruption.
July 8th, 2006 at 11:27 amI do think that some of the comments on this site have gone into the realm of insults and “revenge fantasy” rather than constructive criticism/intelligent discourse. This has been getting worse and worse over the last month or so.
I’d rather not see this site go down the same path as some of the conservative blogs/news sites. I hoped we were better than that…
On topic, I wish Powell had been a bit more vocal in his disagreement with the administration while he was part of it…however, at this point I’m still happy he is making a statement now. Many people in the middle and some Republicans still respect his opinion and perhaps this will get some folks to listen, or at least think a bit more clearly about the issue.
July 8th, 2006 at 11:38 amI was about to comment that this one time, we should accept the message, despite the messanger. But then I read Sue’s comment:
He/they don’t say STOP torture PERIOD! Just close Gitmo!
Excellent point. And I would not be surprised if you’re 100% correct about Halliburten. They have, in fact constructed detention camps in the U.S. under the pretense that they’ll be used to house vast numbers of terrorists (read, anyone opposed to the Bush administration).
What really happened on 9/11 is a hot button issue here. But like you, I’ve read far too much to dismiss out-of-hand the possibility of an inside job.
July 8th, 2006 at 11:38 am#10- Chase- Powell was Secretary of State, not Secretary of Defense. He had no say in how the invasion was conducted. And all advice, and suggestions and opinions that Rummy didn’t agree with were ignored, and some of those who dared to speak in public were fired for their trouble. Powell did not abandon his ‘Doctrine’, Rummy dismissed it entirely. And he continues to ‘make it up’ as he goes, addressing problems only after he can no longer deny that they exist. And he is really stubborn that way. Look how long it took for him to admit that there was an insurgency in Iraq. I believe he called them “Dead Enders”, and kept trying to minimize their impact.
July 8th, 2006 at 11:39 amMatt > once somebody has whored for the Bush Regime, and lied to the entire nation as well for them, then their integrity has been destroyed! Colin is more interested in trying to save his own skin > “once a liar always a liar”!
July 8th, 2006 at 11:40 am#15 – Cool Breeze – Powell’s viewwas overpowered. He was outnumbered, out powered.
His previously expressed beliefs – those being the use of overwhelming force, utilizing all resources to achieve military victory – were seemingly abandoned. For that reason, I fault him.
July 8th, 2006 at 11:45 amRegardless of Colin Powell’s past, we do have to accept that there are those on the right who revere him, and if he is saying this, we should be happy about it.
He might help convince a few more on the right that the neocons have stolen their party and they should be upset about what they are doing to the country that the conservatives love.
Any time any conservative speaks out against the ills of the Republican Party, it’s a good thing for the left.
Who knows, maybe Colin is starting to feel guilty for his actions? That can only be good for the Democrats as he speaks out against the actions of the Bush Regime.
July 8th, 2006 at 11:47 amWhen was the last time, if ever, that Bush listened to Powell?
July 8th, 2006 at 11:49 amColin Powell will forever have to live with the repercussions of his choices. When you look into his eyes, you can see the toll it has taken upon him. That he is trying to undo some of the damage he helped cause is commendable.
I, for one, forgive him. I truely believe he felt he did the best he could under the circumstances. He was outmanouvered and out-gunned by the Cheney-Rumsfeld juggernaut and defeated. And on top of that failure, he has been vilified (perhaps rightfully so).
Yet, when a man, or woman, sees the error of their ways and seeks to make amends, can we not help them? If General Powell now wants to do the right thing, can we not welcome him with open arms?
Which is the path of love? To continue to shun and vilify, or to forgive and accept? I urge you once again to look inside your hearts. In the struggle against the hate and lust for power epitomized by the right, we must turn to all who would be allies, even a broken retired general.
I choose to forgive and accept, and I welcome General Powell with open arms. Will you join me?
July 8th, 2006 at 11:49 am22. No, that can be considered constructive discourse, good discussion about suspected criminal activities and how to hold people responsible for their actions is one of the things I look forward to one this site.
It is the petty name calling, threats of violence (not necessarily in this thread…yet) and other nonsense that is starting to make this site less useful.
25. You are probably right, however, at this point I’ll take what I can get. If some of the more moderate Republicans still respect what Powell is saying, I’ll encourage him to speak out against the administration’s policies until some war crimes trials start up. He may be covering his own deeds, but since he hasn’t been charged with anything…let him keep talking.
July 8th, 2006 at 11:49 am# 17. Sue.
I can only hope you are wrong.
# 21. Bruce.
If you really think idiocy like that is worthy of a scroll down,then you’re a bigger dip-shit than I already thought.
July 8th, 2006 at 11:50 am#24 – Secretary of State has almost unparalled influence over the exercise of our foreign policy, including military action.
From what I’ve been able to discern, when planning a strategy in Iraq, Powell advocated caution and less-than-total ground invasion. To me, this clearly flies in the face of his 1991 Iraq strategy.
July 8th, 2006 at 11:51 amI choose to forgive and accept, and I welcome General Powell with open arms. Will you join me?
*wince* Yes.
July 8th, 2006 at 11:57 amYou are right, there is the weight of regret in his eyes and posture.
I wait to hear more from him.
Thinking more, I guess I’m curious why folks here are so quick to chastize Powell for expressing the exact opinion so many want to hear.
Becuase he didn’t effectively argue his position when he was Sec of State?
How about the numerous retired generals who are now coming out in opposition to Iraq? Why no criticism there? Shouldn’t they have spoken up before they retired?
I’m smelling a double standard here.
July 8th, 2006 at 11:58 amI choose to forgive and accept, and I welcome General Powell with open arms. Will you join me?
I’m not exactly going to forgive and most especially not forget…but I will encourage him to speak out more against the administration policies that he disagrees with. The more of that he does now the better. It will difficult for some of the pundits to call him a “crazy lefty” or whatever the current insult is, so it can only help keep Gitmo in people’s hearts and minds as the discussion and the “war” continues.
July 8th, 2006 at 12:11 pmMy feelings are mixed on Powell, in part its pity, in part a bit of a lack of respect, but also sadness. The poor SOB should have known what he was getting into, he should have realised what sort of marionette dance he was going to be doing, but somehow, ambition blinded him.
I can forgive Powell, but I am not altogether sure I can respect Powell.
Why don’t we do troll impressions? See how close we can come to the real thing!
It’s sometimes hard not to care what people think, and I definitely don’t want to leave you with the wrong impression (pun not intended this time) of me.
July 8th, 2006 at 12:17 pm#32- Is that so? I was not aware of that. Should we be watching Condi for an indication of what military actions we are likely to be facing in the near future? We all know that she and GWB do work very closely with each other, and I would say that she has far more influence with GWB than Colin Powell ever did. Thanks for the ‘heads up’ on who we need to be watching for what our next move will be. Good to know.
July 8th, 2006 at 12:25 pmoh, i don’t know… just thinking…
Post 39 > that pretty much sums it up on Powell for me too! He knew what he was getting into by helping Bush to occupy Iraq for nefarious unjustified reasons! He says now that he was actually against it, but he willingly lied to the UN and the Congress too about it! If he wants to ask forgiveness, and spill ALL the beans on the Bush Regime, then that is a good start, but if this is just an attempt to save his political career, then he deserves damnation! Forgive him if you want, but NEVER vote for him to be in any political position again!
July 8th, 2006 at 12:26 pmI can’t believe I’m going to agree with Chase on something, but he does have a point that when we speak out against the Bush Regime, we are labeled and dismissed for our perspective as ‘communists and infidels’ – but when a conservative speaks out against their own party – they cannot simply be dismissed as a ‘crazy librul’…
I’m sure Powell will be dismissed for other reasons, but it makes those who criticize their conservative ‘war hero’ look less trustworthy and loyal – after all, they once thought highly enough of the man to appoint him to their cabinet. A lot harder for them to take and defend criticism from their own. Kinda like your own family calling you out.
I’m not religious, so I really don’t think forgiveness is required. Just don’t turn your anger for Powell’s actions internally. Otherwise, it makes us less credible. Makes us seem emotional and vengeful. Makes us seem like the very things we stand against.
Implosion of the Republican Party is starting to happen. We just have to encourage it by remaining rational and level-headed – and be willing to accept the change of heart from even Colin Powell.
Mr. Powell this is too little too late. You should have spoke up but chose to keep quiet. We don’t want to hear it now. Now the American public has figured this all out by themselves. You were in a position to do something, like speaking the TRUTH, but chose to keep quiet.
Another traitor to America–Colin Powell.
Well, that didn’t last long.
I disagree, and think you contradicted yourself in your own post. I think the Bush Regime is in serious trouble and to bash a man like Colin Powell, who is considered a war hero in many conservative circles, will only do them more harm. So, frankly, I hope they call him names. The deeper they dig their own grave, the less likely that their soon to be rotting corpses will stink up the place…
July 8th, 2006 at 3:15 pmJust one day after President Bush forcefully defended his insistence on multilateral negotiations with North Korea, the White House has apparently okayed direct talks with envoys from Pyongyang.
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell Addresses the U.N. Security Council
POWELL: The gravity of this moment is matched by the gravity of the threat that Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction pose to the world. Let me now turn to those deadly weapons programs and describe why they are real and present dangers to the region and to the world.
First, biological weapons. We have talked frequently here about biological weapons. By way of introduction and history, I think there are just three quick points I need to make.
First, you will recall that it took UNSCOM four long and frustrating years to pry–to pry–an admission out of Iraq that it had biological weapons.
Second, when Iraq finally admitted having these weapons in 1995, the quantities were vast. Less than a teaspoon of dry anthrax, a little bit about this amount–this is just about the amount of a teaspoon–less than a teaspoon full of dry anthrax in an envelope shutdown the United States Senate in the fall of 2001. This forced several hundred people to undergo emergency medical treatment and killed two postal workers just from an amount just about this quantity that was inside of an envelope.
LIAR AND MURDERER.
July 8th, 2006 at 3:28 pmThe Clinton administration, LIARS AND MURDERERS!
William Cohen justifying the ongoing bombing and preparing the American public for war with Iraq, ABC This Week, Nov 16, 1997 interview:
“It’s important when we talk about weapons of mass destruction that we translate into something that the American people, and hopefully, the world community can understand.
“For example, when we talk about Anthrax — Anthrax, if you took a five-pound bag of sugar and accept — call this Anthrax {producing a 5-pound bag of Domino® table sugar from under the interview table}. This amount of Anthrax could be spread over a city — let’s say the size of Washington. It would destroy at least half the population of that city.”
July 8th, 2006 at 3:54 pmThe Clinton administration, LIARS AND MURDERERS!
Undersecretary of State Thomas Pickering, August 25 1998 on the al Shifa-al Qaeda-Iraq connection:
Q: Ambassador Pickering, do you know of any connection between the so-called pharmaceutical plant in Khartoum and the Iraqi government in regard to production of precursors of VX?
PICKERING: Yeah, I would like to consult my notes just to be sure that what I have to say is stated clearly and correctly. We see evidence that we think is quite clear on contacts between Sudan and Iraq. In fact, al Shifa officials, early in the company’s history, we believe were in touch with Iraqi individuals associated with Iraq’s VX program.
July 8th, 2006 at 3:57 pmThe Clinton administration, LIARS AND MURDERERS!
Ambassador Bill Richardson, in an appearance on CNN’s “Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer,†on August 30, 1998.
“We know for a fact, physical evidence, soil samples of VX precursor–chemical precursor at the site,†said Richardson. “Secondly, Wolf, direct evidence of ties between Osama bin Laden and the Military Industrial Corporation–the al Shifa factory was part of that. This is an operation–a collection of buildings that does a lot of this dirty munitions stuff. And, thirdly, there is no evidence that this precursor has a commercial application. So, you combine that with Sudan support for terrorism, their connections with Iraq on VX, and you combine that, also, with the chemical precursor issue, and Sudan’s leadership support for Osama bin Laden, and you’ve got a pretty clear cut case.â€
July 8th, 2006 at 4:00 pmThe Clinton administration, LIARS AND MURDERERS!
Richard Clarke writes in his book, Against All Enemies: Inside America’s War on Terror about the Iraqi VX found at al Shifa by the CIA:
July 8th, 2006 at 4:03 pmWhat a sad, pathetic man is Colin Powell. I can’t imagine what it would be like being him and feeling remorseful for aiding and abetting the Bush administration in all of the horrors of mass death, destruction and for increasing the hate and suffering in the world. What a heavy, heavy burder to have to carry for eternity.
July 8th, 2006 at 4:09 pmToo late Powell.
July 8th, 2006 at 5:44 pmThe blood can never be washed off.
Minnie:
The Clinton Administration officials were, in hindsight, exaggerating the threat that Iraq posed. Perhaps they were doing it to make political points. Perhaps they were attempting to defend the decision to bomb what turned out to be a hospital if I recall correctly. Perhaps their intelligence was bad. Maybe all three.
But their actions and speeches do NOT in any way justify what Bush has done. It is well-known that he went into Iraq and bad and cooked intelligence. I knew this and so did many others before the invasion. The blood of the dead Iraqis and Americans is on his and his cronies’ hands.
Chase: I deeply and seriously question the concept of “overwhelming force”. What do you mean by this? And can you envision a scenario that would not leave behind embittered relatives who would raise their boys to be the future “terrorists” or “insurgents”, battling in guerilla warfare, using suicide bombers, kidnapping and torturing individual Americans, or whatever else they could do to hurt us in the future?
It’s what has gotten the left into trouble. Letting the right think it’s okay to behave the way they do, while we sit silently by.
#91 – By “overwhelming force”, Powell means using every resource the US has at it’s disposal to achieve our military goals. Gen Powell has said this doctrine is the natural result of what he saw during Vietnam – a failure to use all available resources led to mission drift and, eventually, mission failure.
In the lead-up to the First Gulf War, Powell advocated sanctions and military build-up rather than invasion. However, once he recognized that would not be the American plan, taking from his Vietnam experience, advocated “overwhelming force”.
In the lead-up to the current war in Iraq, Gen Powell advocated, again, the continuation of sanctions and containment (a policy, I might add, was failing in Iraq). Once, again, he recognized his proposal would not win out, he began the process of building an international coalition (you can judge his success yourself).
July 8th, 2006 at 8:20 pmTo those of you who don’t know how the Guantanamo Naval Base came to be:
After the 1898 Spanish-American War ended (Cubans do not accept the name), the US agreed to leave Cuba only, and only, if: Cuba accepted the Platt Ammendment to its Constitution (look it up), and was granted rights to hold as many refueling stations on Cuban soil (coal) as they deemed were necessary at the time. Under the GUN, Cuba accepted the demanded conditions, and that’s how Gitmo was born. In 1933, when Cubans overthrew the US backed Machado dictatorship, the US demanded that in order to accept that the Platt Ammendment should be taken out of the Cuban Constitution, the US Guantanamo Naval Base had to to granted a 99 year lease subject to each side having the right to say when the lease was due!. Again, Cubans had to acccept the orders of the Empire, until 1959 when Fidel Castro won!
Try and do to him, what other Cubans have had to endure! I dare you!
Guantanamo is an illegal US prison situated on Cuban soil that has been claimed by Cuba for over 100 years.
July 8th, 2006 at 10:42 pmSorry Juan, didnt know you were so sensitive, I’m part native american, actually on a roll call, means I get money twice a year. Didn’t see your argument about the spanish in mexico?
July 8th, 2006 at 10:48 pmChase:
Thank you for your reply. However, it doesn’t really answer my question.
What does “overwhelming force” translate to, in practical terms? 500,000 boots on the ground? Air strikes? Nuclear bombing? The problem with the last one is that you lay waste to territory and you have fallout which certainly affects surrounding areas. The problem with all three is that many innocent people are killed.
Also, what is the practical result? Do you really conquer the people against which you use this “overwhelming force”? I don’t think you do. I’m talking about when you are the invading force, such as we have been in Iraq during this war. In this situation, the locals rightly perceive themselves to be the wronged ones. You would have to kill off entire populations, to get rid of people who would raise the next generation to take revenge on you. I’m not sure that is feasible today, if it ever was. Other peoples will take a look at this, and if they are not currently strong enough to take you out, they will be sufficiently alarmed and angry that they will build up their own armaments and ally with others and will wait for opportunities to take you out. Or they will conduct guerilla warfare, as we did on the British during our own War of Indepedence, and as the Iraqis are doing today.
To me, “overwhelming force” is a buzz phrase which doesn’t even begin to take the long view on likelihood of longterm success, and which ignores the fact that it would result in thousands, perhaps millions of deaths of fellow human beings who were in no way aggressors and who have just as much right to live their lives out free from harm as any American does.
And PLEASE don’t bring up WWII! The HUGE difference which supporters of the Iraq War keep on avoiding is that Japan, Germany, and Italy were the aggressors. And especially in the case of Germany, occupiers of countries who didn’t want them there. We were helping them throw off the yoke of a foreign oppressor, so of course they welcomed us. Even the Germans and Japanese did to a certain extent because the more rational among them recognized that they were the aggressors.
Saddam is a nasty brutish evil man, but he was the Iraqis’ man. He wasn’t a foreign invader. They didn’t ask for this invasion, it wasn’t warranted, and they are not better off now. And I don’t think “overwhelming force” would have accomplished more than a shortterm “victory”.
Dear Juan, please dont start crying, but I dont think anyone here had anything to do with what you said. Just as no one here had anything to do with the slave trade. Waas also brings up the point about a Scooter Libby pardon .
July 9th, 2006 at 12:09 amGlad you have your green card.
Wrong, racist. I do not live in the land of Ronald McDonald (your McNuggets are safe from another “brownie”). Why I wouldnt care about people dying? Why would you have an opinion about who I care or not? You brought up the issue about taking land violently from others, (according to you, brownies reclaiming what they owned in the first place). You brought up the spanish (which gives you some credit about your elementary education) and then I told that I didnt agree with that either (the conquest of Mesoamerica by spaniards). And then you began with John Wayne´s propaganda about how proud you are of America (which by the way, is the name for the whole continent, not just for your country), and the technology and that I am a mexican…
Take a plane, visit some countries, talk to people and educate yourself. Stop watching The Dukes of Hazzard.
Been there done that, your the racist. What have you said? Sorry you have had a bad life, but if you have a green card and no education what do you expect?
July 9th, 2006 at 12:26 amPost 114 Juan > there is a NEW thread above this one on Mexican election! I am posting on that one now, so ignore the bigots on here! I am fighting for Obrador to become president of Mexico!
July 9th, 2006 at 12:29 amHey Colin, here’s a clue. It should never have been opened.
But don’t worry, when you are in the Hague, I’m sure the rooms will be properly air-conditioned. And all your thug buddies will be there with ya.
July 9th, 2006 at 12:29 amBarbera:
Two things:
your the racist
His the racist what?
if you have a green card and no education what do you expect?
Did you even bother to read what he posted? He doesn’t have a green card, because he doesn’t live here.
Talk about his ‘lack of education’ all you like, but you’re the one who gets an F for reading Comprehension.
July 9th, 2006 at 12:31 amOh, sorry you like John Wayne… by the way he’s dead. Sorry Honey your’r howling up the wrong skirt, I have a doctorate (paid by the tribe) I saw who you were with your language. Tell pancho hello
July 9th, 2006 at 12:35 amIf he doesnt live here? why is he relevent? Racist? You have no idea. You dont even know the meaning of the word.
Never said anything about not being “extremely” bright
July 9th, 2006 at 12:36 amBarbera:
If he doesnt live here? why is he relevent?
I wasn’t aware you had to live in the United States for your concern for your fellow man to be relevant. (someone really ought to tell Seixon.)
Racist? You have no idea.
No, you’re the one that has no idea. I was pointing out your inability to differentiate between the contraction and the possessive. Whoever sold you that ‘doctorate’ owes you $9.95.
Sorry Honey your’r howling up the wrong skirt,
Ooh! So close! Keep trying!
July 9th, 2006 at 12:41 amCool……….. some idiot that lives in Mexico (who’s not protesting) wants to discuss my heratage…. cooooooooool, I think you should elect him.
July 9th, 2006 at 12:43 amTripmaster… cant take it can u. Guy’s stupid and u cant handle it.
July 9th, 2006 at 12:45 amOk soory its going wrong at Wal Mart Trip Master Monkey. Relevence? Where’s yours?
July 9th, 2006 at 12:53 amBarbera:
some idiot that lives in Mexico
How did you come to that realizaton? Don’t you think that someone who calls themselves ‘Juan C’ might live somewhere besides Mexico? And this is the person who asserted that I didn’t know the meaning of the word ‘racist’.
You really are dangerously stupid. Of course, you do realize that ‘Juan C’ is his signon name here, and may not necessarily even reflect his actual name? Or do you think that ‘Seixon’ is a real name, and that ‘ann coulter’ and ‘karl rove’ are regular posters here? And what harebraned conclusions do you jump to when you see the name ‘TripMaster Monkey’?
wants to discuss my heratage
Actually, no….the only one who seems to want to discuss your (apocryphal ) heritage is YOU.
I think you should elect him.
How can I? Unlike you, I haven’t made a totally unsubstantiated inference of his country of origin.
In conclusion, log off before you hurt yourself.
July 9th, 2006 at 1:01 amYour post was really enlightningt, but stupid. Dear old Juan left enought clues, which you chose not to follow. You sir: are a racist.
# 116 Hey, Jay! Yeah, I read it. Very, very interesting. Really surprising that you take notice on mexican election. Look, I am really suspicious about any government, letf and right. But, in any case, I prefer somehow left governments than this right wing cartoon presidency and, of course, the one that has won oficially. It was, among, progressive thinkers here in Mexico (If I am allowed to be considered that) that a fraudulent election would happen. It was pretty much like your past elections, where people with good intentions voted for Bush out of fear. Same here. It is an old idea and very good propaganda against left governments the excuse of investments flying out of the country and the sudden drop of jobs (as if it wasnt happening right now). Summarizing, in my opinion, there was a fraud, of course, cause right wing had the state apparatus and, now, the votes will be counted one by one…but I am pesimistic.
July 9th, 2006 at 1:10 amYooooooooooo.
July 9th, 2006 at 1:18 amBarbera: Whats with the green card stuff, anyway? That was a really racist comment. No, I dont have one, never wanted one. Your dick must be really small (metaphorically speaking) if you have to bring a “doctorate” into the discussion.
July 9th, 2006 at 1:22 amI am really sorry, Dr.
Now, I have to respect people with a PhD just because they got one? And what if have one? Do you tell everybody: I have a doctorate, please, do not make fun of me? That was really pathetic.
Elect me for what? What pills are you taking? Lets get back to the point, shall we? How can you be proud of a government that has lied to you in order to engage a war that is already lost? You, my friend, are a murderer supporter.
Juan > If Obrador can have all the ballots recounted properly, then he can still become the president of Mexico! Calderon has Bush Regime advisors helping him, so they are trying to make Obrador look like a loser, when actually he is the winner! They pulled that stunt in Florida in 2000 and made Gore look like the loser > he should have fought like Obrador!
July 9th, 2006 at 1:24 amJuan C
July 9th, 2006 at 1:27 amYourr Pathetic.
His pathetic what?
July 9th, 2006 at 1:31 amBarbera:
You’re not even making sense anymore. Been hitting the Boone’s Farm a little hard tonight? Or are you inhaling solvents in a manner inconsistent with its labeling?
Go brew some coffee, and don’t come back until you can type a cogent sentence.
July 9th, 2006 at 1:38 amBerbera should just go to bed or maybe he/she already passed out drunk > lol.
July 9th, 2006 at 1:49 amo’ snap, sounds like we have a cage match goin
July 9th, 2006 at 2:41 amThat…was weird.
July 9th, 2006 at 2:45 amEver heard of a drink & dial? I think that was a drink & blog…
I think ‘Barbera’ is our friend, ‘Sybil”. What a rude little bugger it is, too. But for a while longer, free speech is the rule in America. No one has to like everything, thank goodness, but ALL should be free to say what they want, no matter how pointless it appears to be, to any observers, who can just scroll past it, if they want to. I just wish I didn’t feel embarrassed by/for the cruel ones. Oh well…
July 9th, 2006 at 3:40 am# 139:Cyra:
You just proved that you don’t pay attention to what you read.
July 9th, 2006 at 4:38 amYou need to get your head out of unbelievable’s ass,and start thinking for yourself.
I’m not Barbera;so if you have any integrity.you would apoligise.
#140- The location of my head is really no concern of yours, but thanks for caring. And I did not say that you are ‘it’, but that I thought you might be. I am sorry that that upset you. Maybe ‘it’ is trying to leave that impression by emulating your writing style.
July 9th, 2006 at 6:37 amSybil
Just like if you had any you should appologise to unbelievable for your accusations. What is good for the goose…
Barbara:
I’m a South African, and by buying American goods I can create American jobs. My country, as a neutral state, can lend America money thereby helping to take it away from the threat posed by the Chinese debt, and the businesses of my country can help America by not branching into producing the same products as America. Medical, coal-to-petrol conversion, and mining advances from South Africa (Chris Barnard, Sasol, our local gold mining interests respectively) have all contributed to the high standard of living Americans enjoy.
And my country is a third world country that is a fair distance from yours.
To call the rest of the world irrelevant, more exposes your own personal stupidity and ignorance then anything else.
July 9th, 2006 at 6:47 amNice to have it shut down as a blemish on our International reputation, but then comes the hard part
what do you do with the prisoners, would anyone advocating their release/trial welcome them into their country or local region?
I don’t like the idea of holding people uncharged for indeterminate lengths of time, but to whom or where would you hold or release them otherwise.
no argument it should be shutdown, but I don’t know the answer as to how to deal with the prisoners after that.
July 9th, 2006 at 7:10 amGitmo does not need to be closed for me. I would just change the ‘target population’ to politicians who make false claims while in office…. No need to limit yourself to US politicians, you can come jail the European liars as well. Have them sent to Cuba, make them feel the utility of international law from first row. Bush, Powell, Rice, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld… don’t forget to waterboard ‘m for the truth!
July 9th, 2006 at 8:15 amYes Sybil,
Bruce is right. You owe me about a thousand apologies for all the times you falsely accused me of being other people, lying about my life and career, and insulting me for no reason other than you felt like it. You were wrong all those times. I am none of those people, am honest about my life and career, and you read my posts with the wrong tone if you read venom and vile. You also owe apologies to Cyra and Jules and Zoo and Bruce and Sharon and Wayne for insulting them because they are my allies.
But, I’ll bet, from your past behaviour that you only see when you’ve been wronged, and never when you’ve wronged others. And you’ve wronged me and others in here a lot.
July 9th, 2006 at 9:00 amWhat you are not telling about the Sharon Cox issue is that I put ‘’PARODY’’ right at the top of it.And then I told Zooey it was me two posts later.
Comment by Sybil — July 8, 2006 @ 6:15 pm
Well what about this, which you denied was you?
.
#63 Eww, she has posted under my name? I feel dirty :(
#146:
Then show where I denied it.
July 9th, 2006 at 12:13 pmI just claimed it.
That should tell you that I did not write # 63.
#141:Cyra.
I’ll accept that.
July 9th, 2006 at 12:22 pmThank you.
Actually, the fact that you denied i, as well as being Denny, which you’ve now admitted to because the Sharon Cox parody was done as Denny, is proof that you are most capable and most inclined to spoof me. I’m even more convinced it was you.
And, as I see, you are incapable of apologizing for accusing me falsely. I knew it.
I’m going back to ignoring you. You’re not worth the energy.
July 9th, 2006 at 12:32 pm# 149:
Then ignore this,unbelievable.
July 9th, 2006 at 12:48 pmI now think that YOU are Syphlis Sybil.
Who else would sniff out a distant thread like that if you had not just dropped a load there.
I don’t think Sybil is Barbera. Barbera was sneaky, Sybil lets you know right up front how he/she feels.
Sybil & unbelievable, please leave me out of your differences. I have a peaceful relationship with both of you, and I want to keep it that way. Ok?
July 9th, 2006 at 12:56 pmAnd here is something else to ignore:
I also think YOU wrote # 63 to get some attention for yourself.
July 9th, 2006 at 12:57 pmI noticed no one else was playing with you on this thread,so,boom bam you drop a load on yourself as a cry for attention.
# 151.
What Zooey said.
July 9th, 2006 at 1:01 pmSybil
Reading this, by your own standards you lack integrity.
If you are going to demand an apology for a given behaviour on the basis of integrity, then you had better be prepared to apologise for those times you have exhibited the same behaviour.
July 9th, 2006 at 1:33 pmBruce:
I’m talking about a preponderance of evidence.
Cyra made her knee-jerk statement because she is an ‘unbelievable’ synco..
Now, you go back to the Bush(caption)thread where unb.found the JPark quote and Syphlis shows up.
July 9th, 2006 at 1:50 pmCoincidence? Maybe.
Bruce:
Or maybe you know about Syphlis Sybil than you are letting on.
July 9th, 2006 at 1:59 pmBut unlike unb.,when I figure out I’ve been wrong,I’ll admit it.
I don’t know who Syp. Syb. is,but right now she is suspect:unless you know more than you admitted yesterday.
Sybil
Probably not. Your tendency to accuse other posters of using multiple aliases in order to insult you, or Seixon, would probably attract a certain degree of trolls deciding to insult you. Trolls are, after all, opportunistic feeders.
Besides that, I honestly think if unbelievable wanted to get you she would have been a lot nastier then that. Those posts are purile, and in their inanity, not really very good insults.
July 9th, 2006 at 2:30 pmWho cares what he says , not me , not since he held up that likttle vial of baking soda and scared the crap out of half the population .
July 9th, 2006 at 2:36 pm# 157.Bruce:
Good point.
Point taken.
Let’s take this up another time,for I have to check out for now.
July 9th, 2006 at 2:36 pmBut know this: I didn’t write # 63, which got all this started.
Powell has no credibility. He’s just a vopice the administration can respond to without political consequences.
