What? No comment on the Rep Jefferson decision by the DC District Court?
July 10th, 2006 at 7:00 pmI’d be happier if she was dropped off a cliff.
July 10th, 2006 at 7:02 pmI will write them and ask them to print her column DAILY! She is a rarity in America today ; somebody other than raving moonbat liberal who is not afraid to speak her mind. Ann Coulter should be President!
July 10th, 2006 at 7:09 pmChase,
I am happy that they upheld the right to search his office. I don’t think anyone should be above the law, and that includes members of both the Kennedy and Bush families.
July 10th, 2006 at 7:09 pmI find it telling that the president, in this instance, became the moral equivalent of a mafia boss, …
Funny he should write that when just yesterday, some friends were commenting to me, “[BushCo] doesn’t even have the morality of the mafia. When they’re done using them, they dump them.” Or they give them a promotion or a medal to attract media attention and then dump them.
July 10th, 2006 at 7:12 pmWhat does someone like Coulter have to say to be banned from tv? All Ashley Banfield did was give a speech criticizing the invasion of Iraq and she was flushed down the memory hole.
July 10th, 2006 at 7:14 pmIf that is all it takes to get thrown out of the World Cup game then the Mexican election was all fair and above board. The Italian should have been banned from civiization for life for hitting that poor Frenchman in the head with his chest. Obviously any Italian’s chest is stronger than any Frenchman’s head. The Bushco culture of corruption has permeated all that is sacred in the world.
July 10th, 2006 at 7:14 pmI agree with Miro. Mafia bosses have more class. I thought “traditional” mafiosos didn’t threaten women and children. He is the moral equivalent of a Columbian drug lord.
July 10th, 2006 at 7:16 pmActually the United States was born with quite a few race problems and created other race problems as it grew. Hopefully we will learn to deal with the human race and ignore minor differences.
July 10th, 2006 at 7:20 pm“In his book, Ron Suskind writes…” – - And to offer a shameless plug, the name of that book is “The One Percent Doctrine” which I heartily recommend.

From the Native American viewpoint, I suspect the single race problem involves neither of the races listed by Mr. Derbyshire.
July 10th, 2006 at 7:48 pmRon Suskind also recently qualified that in reference to threatening KSM’s family that he responded that if they were harmed they would be off to a better place anyway. The issue is about well, then what have you got left to threaten him with if that line fails and that’s precisely what happened. Really as far as Ann C. is concerned, she is either like shit or cream, both of which float to the top.Let the market forces decide.

The Native Americans “race problem” would not have happened if those puritanical freaks had stayed in their own country instead of trying to take someone else’s, to begin with.
Once the Native Americans had been despoiled, the European colonisers began working hard at creating their second “race problem”: What to do with all that land if there are not enough hands to work it? Why, import slave labor -of course.
Yeah, those poor, problem-saddled white men.
John Derbyshire is a twit.

Think Progress: “President Bush authorized CIA interrogators to threaten the wife and children of Khalid Sheik Muhammed if he did not talk”
Lesson:
Killing off Ann Coulter, a political opponent – OK.
Threatening the family of the mastermind of 9/11 to get him to talk – not OK.
My work is done here. Or is it?
If threatening the family of KSM was not an OK thing to do, the obvious insinuation by Think Progress, what else to do to get him to talk? Give him flowers? Make him a cake?
I know that none of you would ever permit torturing Mr. KSM to extract information, so let’s hear the ways in which you would solicit information from the guy, information which could potentially mean life or death.

I’m guessing the over/under on that would be about 15 minutes.
July 10th, 2006 at 8:48 pmwell, i would not have to torture Khalid Sheik Muhammed because i would not have him in custody. i would not be a party to the occupation of palestine, afghanistan, iraq; i would not have bases throughout the middle east. i would not be a war-criminal. i would not have the world despise us because of our imperialism. i would apologize for our use of saudi arabia as our aircraft carrier to bomb iraq.
so, the question is senseless, as so many norwegian questions are. it assumes that one would have met the elements necessary to have a gentleman in custody. it also assumes that the answerer thinks torture an option to use on a prisoner of war. those not being valid, at least in my case, the question is not a question, but, your attempt at being cute and mastarbatory….again.

July 10th, 2006 at 9:14 pmSuggest NEW Election In Mexico Between Calderon And Obrador!
Monday 10th of July 2006
by Jay Randal
The only way to settle the standoff between Calderon and Obrador is to either have a full 100% recount of all the ballots or a NEW election to settle the dispute!
Felipe Calderon is allowing the wealthy Mexican elite to crown him, as president, but he has NOT proven if he has won the election honestly without any cheating!
If Calderon refuses to agree to a 100% recounting of all the votes, then his actions denote someone who has something to hide, which implies he stole the election!
Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has a right to demand a full recount of every last ballot to determine who is actually the REAL winner of the presidential election!
President George W. Bush has NO right to interfere in another government’s election process, so he had NO right to congratulate Calderon as being the president!
Recount all the ballots or a NEW election is needed!
( Jay Randal, political activist and writer in Stone Mountain, Georgia.)
July 10th, 2006 at 9:22 pmBush as the equivalent of a mafia mob boss? I love it, Andrew Sullivan is one of the few conservatives I can stand.
July 10th, 2006 at 9:23 pmYeah, the first were slaves brought from a faraway land to work for white, lazy people; the latter the people you take the land from, in the process commiting genocide. No wonder there is a problem there and it has a name: WHITE, GREEDY AND IMPERIALIST PEOPLE.
July 10th, 2006 at 9:35 pmWell, I am not in favor of violence, but Materazzi is widely known for being a real asshole, so probably he deserved that. BTW, Zidane is son of algerians and his father worked in the construction of Saint Denis stadium, where Zidane made France champion in 1998´s World Cup. Nice anecdote.
July 10th, 2006 at 9:41 pm#38 Jay. Hi, there. A question: Can you read spanish?
July 10th, 2006 at 9:48 pmI hope so. This is one of the most objective press I can think about. There are a lot of proof supporting the fraud. Its a magazine called Process.
Thanks post 42 Juan for that information link! I was in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica so I had to learn Spanish > at least I can read enough of it to understand the basic premise of the articles! Speaking and writing Spanish is rusty for me now since I have been out of the Peace Corps for over 25 years now!
July 10th, 2006 at 10:08 pmUnfortunately neither of those remedies is available under Mexican election law. Only contested ballot boxes can be opened.
What a graceful triple-jump of false logic.
I think just about anyone supports a recount of contested ballot boxes by independent observers. I suspect though, should such a recount reaffirm Calderon as the victor, you would still not accept him as the “REAL winner”. Am I right?
Well at this point, IFE has certified Calderon as the winner. Why does President Bush not have the “right” to congratulate him?
July 10th, 2006 at 10:11 pmGiven John Derbyshire’s name it’s highly likely that one of his antecedants came from Derbyshire. That sort of surname usually denotes someone who is a native of another place that moved. Someone living in London from Derbyshire might be called John Derbyshire but someone living in Derbyshire would have a more descriptive surname John Baker or John Smith.
So, as a descendant of immigrants he has a problem with immigrants? As an immigrant myself I would be more than willing to show him where to stick his opinion.

July 10th, 2006 at 10:12 pmhey troll’s troll, can you point to one untrue article on the aljazeera.net site today? if not, then, go out and play in traffic with your parent troll…
July 10th, 2006 at 10:20 pmI suspect though, should such a recount reaffirm Calderon as the victor, you would still not accept him as the “REAL winnerâ€. Am I right?
Comment by Chase — July 10, 2006 @ 10:11 pm
If you think that, you are not aware of the trends in Mexico. AMLO was 10% over Calderon from the beginning in real polls.
Well at this point, IFE has certified Calderon as the winner. Why does President Bush not have the “right†to congratulate him?
July 10th, 2006 at 10:26 pmWrong. The IFE cant raise Calderon´s arm because the election has been impugnated (Sorry if thats not the word, meaning questioned) so the veredict is to be done by the TRIFE which are the tribunals where parties, PRD in this case, have to present proof of irregularities. Bush can congratulate whoever he wants, but that doesnt mean he is congratulating the president that mexicans elected. There are like 3 million of irregularities: 3 million votes were not counted because they presented “inconsistencies”, a new designation from the IFE AFTER the elections! So, IFE is as fraudulent as any other government institution.
Post 44 Chase > sorry but the Mexican Electoral Commission has NOT confirmed the winner yet, because the election has been contested by Lopez Obrador! This is like Bush declaring himself the winner in 2000, before recounts started, and before the Supreme Court appointed him the president! If Calderon has nothing to hide, then he must ask for all the ballots to be recounted?! On the other hand, if he is guilty of stealing the election, then he will fight to prevent any recounts?!
July 10th, 2006 at 10:39 pmmr randal,
if you are suggesting that i had anything to do with any voting irregularities in mexico, let me remind you i was in aspen the entire time! and, just so you know, ann coulter and her hispanic lawyer that is working on her florida voter fraud case, after having helped mr bush get justice in florida in 2000 also had nothing to do with this.
yes, were all in aspen… nothing to see here…move along.
sincerely,
karl rove
July 10th, 2006 at 10:49 pm“Real polls” being? I hope you don’t mean “exit polls” or polls conducted prior to the election.
My understanding, and I’m sure it’s not complete, is that there are many ballots where the directions were not followed, multiple votes were recorded or the writing was illegible.
I am of the belief that minor “inconsistancies” (like a stray mark that indicates no intent) should be forgiven and the vote counted. In cases where an impartial arbitrator cannot determine clear intent, no vote should be counted.
For what it’s worth, there’s this:
July 10th, 2006 at 10:50 pm
“Real polls†being? I hope you don’t mean “exit polls†or polls conducted prior to the election.
Comment by Chase
In general, all poll companies were in favor of Calderon. That is fact, there is no way a candidate climbs 10 points in one month. All those poll companies citing a virtual draw between the two prior to elections is consistent with the idea of a fraud. They were preparing the ground so people wouldnt get so surprised. YOu have to live here in order to know that or read insightful press. I meant polls conducted by the oficialist party and PRI (which of course they never published, so you have to known that info from leaks)
…Mr. López Obrador and members of his Democratic Revolutionary Party say they do not believe that there was rampant fraud…
Now, it is known that some in the network of Obrador´s colaborators cheated on him and allowed the fraud. So, it is more of an inside job. Furthermore, there is this company Hildebrando that was in charge of the compu system that IFE used in order to count votes. Guess who is in charge of that company? Calderon´s brother in law. Diego Zavala, who also received contracts while Calderon was in the Energy Department. What a surprise.
I agree with you. Maybe it was not a rampant fraud…but there was. Even if it was for one vote, it is still a fraud.
July 10th, 2006 at 11:01 pmJuan – It’s clear to me that you simply cannot accept the idea of Calderon winning the presidency. I wish you would be more up front about this.
Personally, I couldn’t care less. Mexico, ultimately, is a third-world country rife with corruption from the highest levels of the state to the dog catchers. If one lives in a slum in Puebla, Guadalajara or Monclova, the ascendancy of either men will make any difference.
The fear, and this has been voiced to me by my co-workers who are originally from Mexico, is that an Obrador presidency will bring a lot of foreign investment to an end.
July 10th, 2006 at 11:10 pmAnn Coulter should be President!
that will never happen, besides your just posting crap about anne coulter to create just what anne, and you crave, attention.
Guess what?
Anne is like yesterdays fad or last month’s diet, the latest pop singer gone missing, nothing she say is new. It’s the same tired rant over and over, like listening to a broken record.
Out with the screeching old pundits and in with the new.
July 10th, 2006 at 11:19 pmPersonally, I couldn’t care less. The GOP, ultimately, is a third-rate class of crooks rife with corruption from the highest levels of the state to the department of homeland security with limos and prostitutes. If one lives in a slum in California, New York or Arizona, the ascendancy of either Republican will make any difference in the culture of corruption that engulfs bush and the GOP.
July 10th, 2006 at 11:23 pmRon Suskind writes that President Bush authorized CIA interrogators to threaten children.
-Heckuva nice guy George.
July 10th, 2006 at 11:26 pmIt’s clear to me that you simply cannot accept the idea of Calderon winning the presidency.
Far from it. I specially want Calderon to win, so people realized what they chose. In this administration (6 years) 4 million citizens have abandoned their homes in order to get the US and have a shot working there. Thats 500,000 people each year. It has no precedents…I guess not even in the Nazi Germany that amount of people have been forced to an exodus. And I guess you, being so worried about immigrants, would like a president who is not following the same line of action.
Calderon is supported by the far right, religious fanatics and ignorant people. They will cut scholarships, cut social benefits (if there are any left), put the church in the power and give away national induestries.
However, I am not an Obrador supporter either. He is not leftist, that is a fact, he is from the center. And his economical plan will be pretty much the same the neoliberalist stream.
The fear, and this has been voiced to me by my co-workers who are originally from Mexico, is that an Obrador presidency will bring a lot of foreign investment to an end.
Comment by Chase — July 10, 2006 @ 11:10 pm
That is the general idea. Nobody voted for Calderon because they liked him, but to prevent Obrador getting the presidency. That is called voting out of fear…pretty much like US citizens that voted for Bush again. They were afraid. Fear is a great client. Those people have nothing to worry about, Mexico still is a paradise for labor exploitation.
Personally, I couldn’t care less.
July 10th, 2006 at 11:31 pmI thought US was a democracy champion. YOu even engaged a war in Iraq just for that, right?
Why no discussion about Darfur? UN peacekeepers aren’t allowed in, and aid workers keep shutting down offices and leaving. African Union troop just stand by, barely able to defend themselves, much less Sudanese refugees.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/5165856.stm
In short, Islamo-fascists are taking control of weak African nations – Somalia and Sudan, then Chad and eventually Niger. Sub-saharan Africa is facing an unstoppable AIDS epidemic, so they have other priorities. Western Europe have large muslim populations, so politically, their hands are tied. The US is already occupying Afghanistan and Iraq, so it won’t be getting involved.
I wonder, if in 50 years, people won’t be asking why the West didn’t deal with the relentless march of Islamo-fascism in Africa, just as people wondered why no one dealt with Nazis in Europe and Japan in Asia prior to WWII.
July 10th, 2006 at 11:32 pm#23 Seixon: Obviously you have no sense of humor. Who in their right mind (or Ann’s or Michelle’s for that matter) would allow themselves to swallow a turd (well, with the exception with those butt munching scat whackos)? As for the flying or plummeting

We are all still planning on going to Norway to live with you, just wait, you think I’m kidding.
July 10th, 2006 at 11:42 pmJuan –
I’m actually fairly “pro-immigrant” for a conservative. I would prefer they come into the country via the legal channels (for both their protection and out of national security concerns) but I’m in no way afraid of a “looming immigrant influx”.
And when I say I couldn’t care less, I mean I have no horse in the race. Whoever wins won’t bother me at all. I do, however, beleive in democracy. If the elections court, after analyzing the allegations confirms Calderon as the duly elected president, the best thing for Mexico would be a graceful and respectful Obrador concession.
The peaceful transfer of power, especially during hotly contested elections, is one of the high-water marks of a strong democracy. If that happens in Mexico, such a short time after 71 years of one-party rule ended, I think this would prove to Mexicans and the rest of the world the strength of the Mexican democracy.
July 10th, 2006 at 11:46 pmHi For Truth! Welcome back! Good vacation?
July 10th, 2006 at 11:46 pmPost 61 Chase > Mexico’s 71 years of one party rule is why it must NOT be repeated again, by appointing Calderon who may have purposely cheated! Repeating the past does NOT strengthen democracy in any way in Mexico!
Probably almost all elections should have the ballots recounted at least once! Fair is fair!

July 11th, 2006 at 12:40 amAh Skeptic.
I plan to throw them a big chunk of bloody meat, nice and lean, and I’ll make for the door. I will miss them, but they will be allowed field trips to the courthouse by the next Zookeeper — if they’re good to her. And if they’re extra good, from time to time I’ll take them for ice cream and chewy toys.
July 11th, 2006 at 12:42 amGood night for real this time!

July 11th, 2006 at 12:54 amWrite the Shreveport Times. All it takes is one paper to stop printing her hateful, lie-filled, made-up, and plagarized kook screeds, to start the ball rolling and end her career. Just because we may have to sit out another 3 years of Bush/Cheney doesn’t mean we have to sit out another 3 years of the Kook Queen.

July 11th, 2006 at 3:13 amI don’t know, maybe some people are just fast.
July 11th, 2006 at 3:20 amWhy would anyone do that?
#9: EEEEWWWWW… I really didn’t need that image right before bed!
July 11th, 2006 at 4:43 am#42: Proceso rocks.
#48: Exactly, what do they have to hide if they really won? BTW, I am going to Mexico next week, looking forward to getting some firsthand discussion and seeing th emood of the place at this time. My brother is in Oaxaca right now, where the teachers are still protestingin the Zocalo, and no end in sight yet. Not a lot of coverage onthat story either.
#68 (and all the back and forth about the job) Congratulations, I am envious! Dental? Is that still legal to offer?
#74: Oreos and Ranch dressing together? Oh god that sounds dreadful. That explains the pus.
No Nino, they are just smarter than the average bear. No conflcit in how fast they address each other, they just anticipated each others questions. Women do it all the time. My sister and I can listen to each other and talk at the same time so seamlessly that we can rant on with exactly the same words for minutes on end, no rehearsal (great party trick). It doesn’t mean we have an evil plan. Not everything is a vast, liberal conspiracy.
July 11th, 2006 at 4:46 amFor all you shut-ins who wet their pants with fear at the mention of Ann Coulter, she has just been cleared of the bogus charges that she lifted material for her book. Start soaking your depends again.
July 11th, 2006 at 8:18 amThe National Review’s John Derbyshire explains why he’s uneasy about immigration: “The U.S.A. was born with two race problems: the African Americans and the Native Americans. … Would it be wise to import a new one? Mass immigration from (say) Indonesia or (say) Bangladesh would add a huge visibly identifiable minority to our nation.â€
You mean, like the thousands and thousands of chinese workers who build the transamerican railways, one and half century ago? In these times, if you visited San Francisco, you will have found a lot more chinese and latino people than “whites”. And, when came your family to the USA, Johnnie Boy from the good ole England?
July 11th, 2006 at 8:23 amMr. Durrett,
At a critical crossroads in a divisive America, the truly patriotic and professional thing to do with Ms. Coulter’s column is to drop it from your paper. Not only does she not do anything positive to help re-unite a divided America, but she further divides it with her calls for murdering liberal judges and elected officials. She is hateful at best and does nothing to improve The Shreveport Times.
Journalism is also facing a critical crossroads where the people are turning to blogs to get their news. If you’d like to raise the bar for your profession, replacing Ms. Coulter’s vitriolic words with a cartoon strip would be a vast improvement to the crediblity and integrity of all newspapers, including The Shreveport Times. Though, personally, I’d like to see Jack Cafferty’s words in a column. He isn’t afraid to speak the truth about the real problems we Americans are facing.

I guess he’s overlooking the huge white European race problem the Native Americans had?
What a jerk.
July 11th, 2006 at 8:28 amReply to unbelieveable:
Well said. As I see it, the U.S.A. has one race problem: the Caucasians. Importing large numbers of some other ethnic groups will diminish the impact of that race problem in our nation.
July 11th, 2006 at 8:35 amWith all due respect, I think the Native Americans would consider the true race problem to be caucasian.
July 11th, 2006 at 8:38 amDear Mr. Durrett,
Please replace Ann Coulter’s column with someone that hates Republicans. This will help unite America. Thank you

I think it just happened that very few of us were on TP at that hour, so we could have a little conversation. No Nino, For Truth and I are not the same person!
On another note, two of my comments were “moderated,” how cool is that!? Don’t know why, though…

That’s funny, SKdeA. When we were kids, my sister and I would have complete conversations in our sleep. I think we had to do it that way, because if we were awake, I could never get a word in. I still can’t get a word in edgewise, I just wait for her to draw breath and make a quick comment. She’s great, my sis is. ;)

Thanks. I was inspired :)
I agree that we need even more diversity here. I’ve seen how an influx of Asians, Latinos and Indians in the mostly white town where I grew up is raising a younger generation with less prejudice. Even gay students aren’t harrassed. As opposed to the black 8th grader who was threatened after showing up to our 8th grade dance with a white girl. Which was a huge issue in 1970’s rural South. Not so much anymore… Which further supports our belief that tolerance comes through diversity and exposure to all things different… Was certainly what converted me from conservatism to liberalism – an awareness of others and that there are many ways, but not just one “right” way to live…
July 11th, 2006 at 1:55 pm#98 Zooey: I think it was my fault they were moderated. I combined your remark to pus about the “crack” you made earlier. Then you said something like “pus crack, ew!” So as I was about to slander Anne Coulter in an treasonous, godless manner I decided to use your latest accidental creation, pus crack, in describing her. It got a little messy so I guess that’s why they decided to clean up the entire spillage. It was quite funny though. Wish you would’ve caught it.
I don’t understand why grown adults have to be moderated by, more than likely, 20 something techies. Unless maybe they secretly like Anne (PC) Coulter. EEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
July 11th, 2006 at 2:33 pmMr. Evil,
So that was it! I do wish I’d seen it, as I’m a big fan of the gross — in self-defense, of course, having raised two sons.
We should form the Secret Society of the Moderated –

Comment by Iakeo — July 11, 2006 @ 8:50 pm
No Native-American nation has called another a “race problem”.
Who had been selling their own people into slavery since time immemorial?
“Their own people”? Rwanda’s Hutus don’t see Tutsis as “their own people” anymore than Germans see the Russians as “their own people”. With that logic, the Japanese were killing their own people when they invaded China.
Can you tell two African-Americans apart?
Who had been selling their vanquished enemies into slavery since time immemorial?
Yeah, the Romans enslaved everyone in their path. The Greeks, Egyptians, and Chinese did the same before. So what’s your point?
I think you folks need some lessons in how humans have treated each other over the last few millenia (and long before that).
In a nutshell, your excuse is “others did it too”. I love it when people tell me to “go learn”.
Your point is that “whites (whatever that means) are evilâ€, and that you’re “For the downtroddenâ€.
My point is that John Derbyshire is a twit for contending that the vanquishers, conquerers, and slavers are the ones with the problem, and not those who lost their land and/or were reduced to slavery.
I do wish people would describe what they see DESCRIPTIVELY instead of PATHOLOGICALLY DOGMATICALLY..!
“Dogmatically”? If you have a history book that explains how it was the Europeans who lost their land and were pushed into reservations, let’s see it.
Wouldn’t that be nice for a change..?
Funny thing is… you don’t challenge my description (after all, that’s the way things happened) but go on a tangential rant about how “everyone does it”.
Since you are defending John Derbyshire, maybe you also agree that African-Americans and Native-Americans are both “problems”.
