A Treasury Department analysis “presented in the Mid-Session Review itself confirms what outside experts have consistently said - tax cuts do not come remotely close to paying for themselves.â€
Conservatives are outraged that a strict new immigration bill in Colorado still allows children of undocumented immigrants to receive public assistance like food and healthcare: “We’re helping create the next generation of terrorists,” said Rep. Debbie Stafford, R-Aurora.
Spencer Ackerman on the Pentagon’s claim that U.S. military detainees are now protected by the Geneva Conventions: “The very obvious loophole is what will happen to detainees outside of U.S. military custody — as in CIA custody, such as the so-called ‘black sites,’ where Geneva is a sick joke.”
Michael Savage: “Liberalism is, in essence, the HIV virus.”

And finally: Watch incredible video from a camera attached to an Orbiter Shuttle rocket booster — both the ascent and descent (complete with parachute ocean landing) are caught on tape.

Its good to see the Republicans are starting to see the light… oh wait… she means Mexicans? WTF? Mexicans were behind 911? I thought they were blaming the Iraqis?
July 11th, 2006 at 8:31 pmWhen is Michael Savage going to put those progressives in their place once and for all and just point out the obvious … once and for all … that indeed the world is FLAT… ThinkProgress=ThinkStupid ..DUH! …Round planet … those stupid stupid progressives….next they will be calling for democracy, liberty, and freedom! hahahaha ..where do they think they live? An enlightened America?
July 11th, 2006 at 8:34 pmDebbie Stafford is dead-on. Why the hell are we enabling illegals to remain viable in this country? Starve ‘em out, sick ‘em out, and KICK ‘em out. If they want to Americans, then they can go through the necessary steps and procedures. We shouldn’t give illegals ONE PENNY of any type of aid, be it education, medical, etc.

Tax cuts don’t pay for themselves?
The 2003 Bush Tax cut MORE then payed for itself. Federal Tax revenue has actually gone up roughly 20% since the Bush tax cut was enacted.
Here is a link to a Dept. of Treasury Graph proving it true:

So, Could I please get a retraction from Thinkprogress? Thanks in advance!!

July 11th, 2006 at 8:41 pmUmm, what does anything you just said have to do with phenomenon of liberalism undermining the foundations of our society?
How so?
first define liberalism, then look at the culture of corruption thats called the Bush administration…this is strengthening the foundations of the moral majority?
How so?
Seems to me the GOOPers are undemining our society, our laws, and our constitution.
July 11th, 2006 at 8:43 pmDebbie Stafford is right, denying children food and healthcare would create the next generation of terrorists. Oh wait a minute she WANTS to create the next generation of terrorists.
If I was in Colorado I would deport her fast. There are enough evils in the world without having them in my state. Just don’t send her to Virginia, or Washington D.C. or the east coast. Send her to Idaho with the White Supremists.
July 11th, 2006 at 8:44 pmThe 2003 Bush Tax cut MORE then payed for itself. Federal Tax revenue has actually gone up roughly 20% since the Bush tax cut was enacted.
Just means bigger government, something the Republicans say they are against, just more hypocrisy.
July 11th, 2006 at 8:48 pmGary-
You are right on, brother. Not counting the first year of Bush’s administration - you know, the year of the inherited recession from Clinton’s Dot-Com bust, and that little 9:11 thing? - Bush’s economic plan has created an incredible amount of growth. The reason? Plain and simple. The tax cuts. We would be in a deep recession, if not a full-blown depression, if not for the tax cuts.
July 11th, 2006 at 8:50 pmSo whos paying that 20% revenue increase smart guys?
You? Me?
July 11th, 2006 at 8:53 pmCool Breeze-
First of all, I won’t deny a culture of corruption THROUGHOUT Washington. Politicians are all corrupt, as far as I am concerned. Just look at your Democratic poster-boy, Congressman William Jefferson. ‘Nuf said on that.
As far as the tax cuts and bigger government, the pork-fest we know as Congress will eventually come to an end. Well, hopefully. The Republican House is finally flexing it’s Conservative muscles, starting with the Illegal Immigration issue. It is only a matter of time before enough people get pissed, and they put a stop to this non-sense.
July 11th, 2006 at 8:55 pm#17-
It’s called captial gains taxation. The richest americans are paying into most of the 20% increase. The less wealthy americans are taxed, the more capital they invest. The more capital they invest, the more taxes are taken from their investment income. Listen to Einstein: “The most powerful force in nature is compound interest.” That is were all the extra money is coming from. Yes, the rich recieved tax cuts. But, they are still paying through the nose in captial gains taxes.
July 11th, 2006 at 8:59 pmAs far as the tax cuts and bigger government, the pork-fest we know as Congress will eventually come to an end.
Well, hopefully.
[not if you keep re-electing them]
The Republican House is finally flexing it’s Conservative muscles, starting with the Illegal Immigration issue.
July 11th, 2006 at 9:00 pm[I have lived in texas a long time, there is no change that I have seen on immigration, bush as you recall wants to give them amnesty, there has been no change on the amount of illegals nor the people who keep hiring them]
That extra 20% is mostly coming from business revenues and the top 5% of wage earners as they are all making more money due to the tax cuts. Business invests more because of it and the “rich” are investing more because of it. Simple economics.
Now if we can just get a congress that decreases the budget every year instead of continually make the budget larger. Are the Dems going to run this fall with a plan to reduce the Budget across the board? I don’t have faith that the Repugs will after watching what they did with it for the last few years.
July 11th, 2006 at 9:02 pmCool Breeze-
When I say that the Conservative Republicans are flexing their muscles, it has nothing to do with Bush. He is selling out the country with the whole amnesty plan. Screw that. The only people with a backbone are the conservatives in the House, who have put forth the “enforcement first” immigration bill. They will reinforce ILLEGAL immigration as the crime that it is, and secure the border first before addressing any other immigration-related issues. Then, I’m sure they will go after the businesses employing the illegals.
July 11th, 2006 at 9:05 pmTP = TS; Conservatives condemned scientists centuries ago who dared to point out that the earth revolves around the sun instead of the reverse. Apparently you wish to return us to those glorious days when heretics were burned at the stake.
July 11th, 2006 at 9:05 pmThe Republican House is finally flexing it’s Conservative muscles
don’t you find it odd that they are just now flexing their ‘flab’, after all these years? Right around election time?
The less wealthy americans are taxed, the more capital they invest.
July 11th, 2006 at 9:05 pm[I dont think this is accurate.]

What an unholy bitch. She would let children go hungry and medically untreated because their parents made certain choices for them? Unforgiveable.
July 11th, 2006 at 9:08 pmHe is selling out the country with the whole amnesty plan. Screw that. [you guys elected him wtf?]
The only people with a backbone are the conservatives in the House [ they dpn’t even have the ethics to stop corruption, do you think bush wont just make a signing statement and null the immigration bill?]
July 11th, 2006 at 9:09 pmGary-
I agree with you totally that the Dems will NEVER reduce the budget. They will take the additional tax revenues and simply spend more. As for the Republicans, I don’t know. I really believe that eventually they will get back to whole “Contract with America” ideals that enabled them to seize the House and Senate, and the deficiet will disappear. I think they just went crazy, and Bush enabled them, because we had a Republican president. I think the next Republican president will be much more fiscally Conservative.
July 11th, 2006 at 9:09 pmMichael Savage: “Liberalism is, in essence, the HIV virus.â€
That’s interesting, because Michael Savage is a boil on humanity’s ass.
July 11th, 2006 at 9:11 pmand, last time from randi’s site…
Mexico’s presidential election smacks of Florida in 2000. Why would Bush/Cheney care so much about Mexico? The same reason he’s worked up over Venezuela…oil.
greg palast is in mexico, reporting on that mess:
Mexico and Florida have more in common than heat
There is evidence that left-leaning voters have been scrubbed from key electoral lists in Latin America

Damn right. It is unfortunate, but necessary, to cut off illegals, even their children. If we make an example of some of these parasites, then maybe the next border-jumper will think twice before illegally entering the country and putting his/her family at risk. Let me tell you something. My Great-Grandparents came to this country and did not recieve ONE PENNY from any government agency. Nor did they ask.
July 11th, 2006 at 9:13 pmAs for the Republicans, I don’t know. I really believe that eventually they will get back to whole “Contract with America†ideals that enabled them to seize the House
Contract with America..jeez you suckers, how many times are you gonna swallow that same dollop of spooge?
July 11th, 2006 at 9:14 pmthey seized the house for power, not a contract with America, you have created neo-liberals
“We’re helping create the next generation of terrorists,†said Rep. Debbie Stafford, R-Aurora.
No doubt infering her relatives were the “first” generation of terrorists when they slaughtered the innocent Native Americans upon their arrival from Europe.

I thought you “Progressives” didn’t believe in censureship? Oh yeah, I forgot. Hypocrisy is a liberal mantra.
July 11th, 2006 at 9:14 pmYa know, it’s called common sense that we shouldn’t be expected to provide food and healthcare to illegal aliens. Any of you ever heard of “tragedy of the commons?”
Common sense based approaches to illegal immigration (keyword, I L L E G A L), involve penalizing American businesses exploiting these people. To be a liberal, also involves being able to think for yourself, and to hold different opinions on a wide variety of subjects. I L L E G A L immigration is where I completely disagree with the numbnuts who want to open arms to everyone in the world, and help bring the destruction of the US. It’s pure common sense, that resources are not unending, and this whole issue has to be approached intelligently, or your own children could suffer. This isn’t a scare tactic; it’s the simple truth. Look up the tragedy of the commons.
Think.
July 11th, 2006 at 9:16 pmDamn right. It is unfortunate, but necessary, to cut off illegals, even their children. If we make an example of some of these parasites, then maybe the next border-jumper will think twice before illegally entering the country and putting his/her family at risk.
They come over here to work, those that HIRE them put them at risk. If people would not HIRE Illegals then we wouldn’t have them crossing the borders.
July 11th, 2006 at 9:16 pmoh yea, michael savage IS a virus also. Hatred only gives way to hatred, and division.
how the HELL can someone like this prosper? Who are his students?
July 11th, 2006 at 9:18 pmI’m sorry if I am making just a little too much sense for you Kool-Aid drinking fanatics. We even have calls for my censureship. Talk about burning people at the stake. Liberals burn everyone at the stake who do not conform with their viewpoints. Take a look at poor Joe Liebermann. The man has dedicated his life to the Democrats and Liberalism, and he being completly ostracized by liberals just because he supports the war in Iraq. You libs are pathetic.
July 11th, 2006 at 9:19 pmWe have a Republican President, a Republican Congress, and “Conservative” Supreme Court and somehow the shitstorm dropped on America by the neocons is the fault of liberals? The trolls that spend hour after hour posting here and other left-leaning blogs know they have cast their lot with a dullard and their pathological allegiance to the Bush White House failed Presidency is telling.
July 11th, 2006 at 9:19 pmAh HA! So Republicans say they are cutting taxes, but they are actually taking MORE tax money from the poor Americans. Double talking liars!
Also, as to Michael Savage, who would have figured that Josef Goebbels would become reincarnated in the body of a closeted, gay, Jewish snake oil salesman from San Francisco?

July 11th, 2006 at 9:23 pmThinkprogress thinkstupid, well…I thought bush excelerated censorship with (laughably) “free speech zones.” Don’t you see the ridiculousness of that?
Stamping out science results produced by their own research, wow, that’s kinda censorship of the worst kind, right? Altering reality because it doesn’t suit your purposes, vs. blocking someone whose obvious intent is to cause flaming, with no intelligent discourse.
How ya like me NOW? Don’t get me started…the writing is on the wall…my die-hard bush loving, truckdriving father, about 4 months ago, has awakened. he still hates dems for no apparent reason (other than people with blue-collar jobs like driving a semi only can hear rush limbaugh and f*ckers like that on the radio), but he now cannot stand george dumbya bush.

July 11th, 2006 at 9:27 pmdrsinker, when you separate the xenophobes from the people who understand resources are not limitless, you will see clearly that I L L E G A L and unchecked immigration IS a very big concern we should have.
Ya know, it’s not just that they eat up resources, but they’re undocumented..how many serial killers, pedophiles, rapists, thieves have we let into the country, hmmmmm? You think everyone willing to risk life and limb with that much risk are innocent brown-eyed, Mexican people? Why do you think every civilized country has strict immigration rules?
You want to stick your head in the sand like an ostrich? Again, look up the tragedy of the commons.

Conservatives are outraged that a strict new immigration bill in Colorado still allows children of undocumented immigrants to receive public assistance like food and healthcare: “We’re helping create the next generation of terrorists,†said Rep. Debbie Stafford, R-Aurora.
Dont you think refusing to provide basic care to children would piss off people to perform acts of terrorism? Yea I can see it now, little dying kids on the streets of America.
Spencer Ackerman on the Pentagon’s claim that U.S. military detainees are now protected by the Geneva Conventions: “The very obvious loophole is what will happen to detainees outside of U.S. military custody — as in CIA custody, such as the so-called ‘black sites,’ where Geneva is a sick joke.â€

July 11th, 2006 at 10:29 pmLets make it really fair - raise the inheritance tax for all estates of more than $100,000.00 (factor in inflation here) per heir (spouse, lover (up to two and of the opposite gender), child or adoptee) to 100% of the remainder and lower the personal income tax to zero. Spouses would be provided an income of 1/30 of the residual funds (which would be invested in federal bonds) for life and be allowed to reside in the family residence, no vacation homes allowed. That way, anyone who cares about how they live and excels will bask on their own achievements and the kids will have to make do for their selves. The real property passed on to government will be leased out to people at fair housing rates. Social programs would be financed by the income from estates and residual cash and investments. This would transfer the tax on the living to a tax on the dead (who would be less likely to complain).

Hey Think Stupid, if you find a little time, perhaps you ought to go over your spelling.
July 11th, 2006 at 10:33 pmGod loves the compassionate conservatives like Debbie Stafford. Yes, let those kids who live with their illegal immigrant parents get sick, and maybe they’ll die and their parents will learn a lesson. Or if the kid falls and breaks an arm, just let them live with it, young bones knit quickly. After all anyone with brown skin is a potential terrorist - Mexican, Arab, Iraqi, no matter We must be vigilant. We can’t afford to spend any money on a sick or injured kid, much less teach them anything, like perhaps, maybe English, not while we’re spending $1 billion a week in Iraq. Those bombs are expensive. Gotta build that embassy that will be able to be seen from outer space. And those military bases - we need that secure foothold in the middle east. We need those tax cuts too, we can’t spend money on poor kids. Who do they think they are?
July 11th, 2006 at 10:33 pmYes, priorities are in order in the Republican party - and when they go to church on Sunday they tell each other how much God assuredly loves them.

July 11th, 2006 at 10:38 pm“”We will complete the mission and I will make my judgments as to the troop levels necessary to achieve victory, not based upon political polls or focus groups, but based upon the measured judgment of our commanders on the ground . . . Make no mistake about it, there is a group in the opposition party who are willing to retreat before the mission is done . . . They are willing to wave the white flag of surrender and if they succeed the United States will be worse off, and the world will be worse off . . . We’ve got a plan to succeed, a plan for victory, a plan that will enable a new ally in the war on terror to govern itself, sustain itself and defend itself . . .”
- George W. Bush, June 28, 2006
Too bad neither Iraq or Afghanistan resemble his rhetoric, nor do the facts on the ground…Iraq decending deeper and deeper into a civil war…and Afghanistan well this is the situation;
The Karzai government is so worried about the deteriorating security situation that it is allowing local Afghan commanders to re-create militias, even though it was popular anger over child abductions and extortion by these private armies that first led to the emergence of the Taliban a decade ago.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/ article/ 0,,2092-2261727_2,00.html
Thus Karzai is reduced to turning to the same thugs that the people of Afghanistan originally turned to the Taliban to oust…could this be history repeating itself…but with the US playing the role of the Soviets?
July 11th, 2006 at 10:41 pmThinkProgress=ThinkStupid …I bet some of my ancestors met the boat when yours were immigrants. I think all of your family should be deported. The American Indians are the only ones that have a right to bitch about illegal aliens. And that includes you dipshit.
July 11th, 2006 at 10:42 pmThe situation in Afghanistan is getting worse by the day:
More alarmingly, the Taliban are no longer just in the south but have even moved into the province of Logar, 25 miles from Kabul. Among their Afghan victims they particularly target police and their relatives as well as guards, road builders and interpreters for western contractors. About 1,500 Afghans were killed by the Taliban last year; 400 have died this year.
Last week an Afghan friend travelling from Kandahar to Kabul on a bus was shocked when a bearded passenger got up, walked to the front and replaced the music cassette that had been playing with a tape of Taliban chanting: “For the next 2½ hours we all sat listening to this terrible stuff and nobody said a word. Two years ago that would have been unthinkable.â€
So confident are the Taliban that leaders of the once secretive group have started giving interviews on Afghanistan’s new US-funded Tolo television station. This prompted Karzai last month to impose reporting restrictions that he was forced to rescind by the international community, which felt “censorship†did not sit well with attempts to showcase Afghanistan as a liberal democracy.
“People are scared when they see the Taliban on TV,†said Jamil Karzai, MP for Kabul and a nephew of the president. “Every day I get constituents coming and asking: what does this mean, are the Taliban coming back? We could never have imagined we would get in a situation where such a thing was conceivable.â€
And a British commander in Afghanistan says this;
“We need to realise that we could actually fail here,†warns Lieutenant-General David Richards, British commander of the Nato-led peacekeeping force. “Think of the psychological victory for Bin Laden and his ilk if we failed and the Taliban came back. Within months we’d suffer terror attacks in the UK. I think of my own daughters in London and the risk they would be in.â€
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/ article/ 0,,2092-2261727_1,00.html
July 11th, 2006 at 10:43 pmRemember the taliban does not need to beat us on the battle field…they have to repeat what they did in the 80′;s..hang on long enough for the Government of the US to feel it is no longer politically expediant to keep up the fight…the same thing the Viet Cong did in Vietnam…they did not win battles…but were still there when we left…
And Afghanistan is one war we can not afford to lose…thus bush needs to refocus..on the one military objective he should have been focused on all along

Correct me if I’m wrong, but even this loose cannon is not all bad. The Wikipedia site notes some interesting things about him.
I mean, Moon Bat Patrol ignors what Savage calls some fellow show hosts. Like Rush Limbaugh, whom he has called “Hush Bimbo,” and Sean Hannity who he calls “Pawn Vanity,” for what he views as their blind support of the Republican Party and President George W. Bush. Savage calls Bill O’Reilly the “Lepre-con” and “Loofa-Man” in reference to O’Reilly’s sexual harassment scandal.
Savage also notes that President Bush and most neo-conservatives in government and elsewhere in talk radio are basically an outgrowth of the big-government, liberal Rockefeller-wing of the Republican Party, or “checked-pants, country club Republicans.”
July 11th, 2006 at 11:03 pmThanks For Truth That is the way I feel about it. Most every one in this country has an ancestor that was an immigrant at one time. Evetyone coming to this country is looking for a better life for their family, who has the right to say that is wrong. As long as they live by the laws as established, (unlike or presinutt) they should have a chance to become a citizen whithin a given amount of time.

I went to the blog that discussed the Colorado Immigration bill. There are some very callous and stupid people talking out there.
July 11th, 2006 at 11:25 pmCharity and kindness and love of humanity aside, their are practical reasons to be nice . Do the stupid people want civil unrest? Do they think that people are going to peacefully watch their children or themselves become sick and hungry? I am a rather peaceful person but I would take up bank robbery and burglary first..
You beat me to it, and I’m glad you did, because you said it better than I would have.
