“The White House is concerned enough about President Bush’s job rating…that word of reduction in vacation time at Crawford next month is being put about,” the Houston Chronicle reports. “Bush may be so desperate to look engaged that, even if he’s not in Washington, aides say he will spend more August nights on the road away from his Prairie Chapel Ranch.”

Cool. Only took 5 1/2 years.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:10 pm“Bush may be so desperate to look engaged…”
that, and the fact that cindy and the gang plan another summer vacation there also…
July 12th, 2006 at 3:12 pmgo girl!
You mean he’s “cutting short” his vacation like he did after Katrina hit the Gulf Coast?
July 12th, 2006 at 3:13 pmBush should remain at his Crawford Ranch for the rest of his dumb putrid life! He can ride his bicycle and cut down trees with his chainsaw for all I care! Bye bye Bush ass!
July 12th, 2006 at 3:15 pmCan’t the same bunch who made the faux BinLaden tapes do the same for Shrub?
…just use a background shot of DC or something?
July 12th, 2006 at 3:18 pmI’m sure that every American who suffers from Vacation Deficit Disorder will be very happy.
Goper’s Lament (Hard To Be A Republican)
July 12th, 2006 at 3:18 pmNow the prez wants to “look engaged.” How about acting like the President? Ops, that’s too low a target for the ruler and chief…..
July 12th, 2006 at 3:18 pmOn the road? That might actually count, if he was a trucker. Sorry Bush, but after you saw fit to have your press secretary diss Carter on his vacation record, you have to stay in the Whitehouse and do some bloody work.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:21 pmBush trimming vacation? Wow, this must be a big deal. Missing a day of brush clearing will really cramp his photo-op schedule.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:21 pmBush trimming vacation? Wow, this must be a big deal. Missing a day of brush clearing will really cramp his photo-op schedule.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:21 pmI disagree, I need to know that the Commander in Chief has his yardwork done. It makes me feel safe.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:22 pmPrarie Chapel Ranch, haha, is just a set anyway, can’t his prop men do the same with the oval office on location in Crawford?
July 12th, 2006 at 3:25 pmSounds like people here needs a little ranch time, even though they don’t have the stress of,
1. Defending the American people from acts of terror.
2. Creating a strong vibrant economy.
3. Dealing with the middle east.
4. Dealing with the Korean Penninsula.
5. Ect. Ect.
Hey, I didn’t know being bitter about life could be so stressfull….. Come on, let’s get some beer and hit the ranch!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 12th, 2006 at 3:27 pm“Prairie Chapel Ranch”
RETCH
Let’s call it what itis: The Bush Compound. Within cycling distance (for a real Texan) of the former Branch Davidian Compound. Megalomania, servile women, deluded view of the world- equally nutty in many of the same ways, but Bush has bigger guns.
God, please protect us from Your followers.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:27 pmPersonally I prefer that he takes his vacation on his ranch. It will save taxpayer money as opposed to his travelling around so that he can “look engaged”. Also the less he does, the less damage he does to this country. TAKE THE DAMN VACATION ON THE RANCH AND STAY THERE!
July 12th, 2006 at 3:32 pmHopefully Bush will actually take some time out to do those very things. :)
Too bad its taken him this many years to figure out being Prez isnt a part time job like the National Guard he was in and the failing companies he oversaw. (wink wink)
As for the beer and hitting the ranch, beer sounds good, but I wouldnt dare go within miles of that ranch. He would have his goons round us up and work as slave labor on his ranch seeing he wont be able to do it.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:33 pmAs I said earlier this week, the first Primate in space was a chimp.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:36 pmNow, given his penchant for going to Mars, I think a nice 4-5 yr.
vacation is in order for America’s best known chimp.
Yeah, I know it’s technical, but that’s what autopilot is for… he
doesn’t really have to fly. (Yes, he was in the Air Guard, but…)
He could utter profound insights to the 6 o’clock news crowd from
the capsule, & then Tony Snow could ‘interpret’. (As the polls show,
most of us don’t speak chimp.)
Like: ‘I think I can see Heaven from here’, or ‘I’m coming up now on
Saturn, errr, Jupitor, oh, wait; it’s the Moon!’
I think we need to remove “August” from our calendars until this loser is gone. Can we go Julian or Mayan?
July 12th, 2006 at 3:37 pmAs someone else picked up, it’s all about “looking” engaged not actually being, since that’s not possible. I’ll more illusion please, with a side of illusion.

July 12th, 2006 at 3:38 pm1. 911 happened on Bush’s watch and the 911 commission has since given him failing grades as far as implementing the initiatives needed to protect this country.
2. The economy sucks. The top 4 highest deficits in history are under this President.
The 5th highest was under his father.
3. The middle east is burning. Iraq, Afghanistan ,Lebanon and Israel. (Iran next? Another non threat.)
4. Korea has nukes and has so little to fear from the US that it responded to threats from the US by launching missiles.
5. Etc. etc.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:42 pm“What with the approach of congressional elections as well as continuing rough patches with Iraq, Iran and North Korea, “White House officials have decided too much is at stake this year for Bush to spend so much time on vacation,” the Associated Press reported.”
So, civil war is now tidily referred to as “rough patches”. The less interaction BuschCo has with running this country, or fighting his “wars”, the better off everyone will be.
Actually, this is refreshing news from an administration that doesn’t concern itself with polls. One: Bush has not previously been engaged (let alone to even look engaged) and the polls are worrying them.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:43 pmmparker
If you don’t mind, I think I am going to borrow 4 as a sig. Well said.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:45 pmI doubt that Bush wants to appear “engaged”. I suspect that this pressure is from Rove, to make the republicans appear less corrupt and idiotic ahead of the election.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:48 pmHe will shorten his vacation for a political photo op but he wont for a report from the CIA that says … “Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States” … cant we just draw down the curtains and say the SHOW is over… the time for this photo op presidency to start acting like professionals is LONG over due. Put up or get out..
July 12th, 2006 at 3:49 pmBush was in the White House nine months with 9/11 hit. It took longer than nine months to plan the attack.
Our economy is the envy of the world.
Iran is not a threat? Come on mparker. Man?
North Korea is Bush’s fault to. Bill Clinton doesn’t hold some responsibility for North Korea? Your on a roll now mparker.
ect. ect. You need the beer more than katy and misty
July 12th, 2006 at 3:55 pmGreat! Less time on vacation means Bush can spend more time doing what he does best…pointless photo ops and PR propaganda campaigns.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:55 pmNo “Prairie Chapel Ranch.” Please. “Mount Tenderfoot”
July 12th, 2006 at 4:04 pmwilly’s correct - SAVE MONEY - STAY HOME…
July 12th, 2006 at 4:06 pmeither one of them… just stay there…
jim
Yes, but Bill Clinton left behind a lot of information for Bush, generally said to him that this was important, only to have it ignored. It took nine months for the Whitehouse to ignore every warning pointing to 9/11, and it took the Whitehouse 9 months to do nothing about 9/11.

July 12th, 2006 at 4:10 pmWanna bet we’ll have another terrorist alert or foiled terrorist plot while he’s in Crawford or just shortly after his vacation is over?
The news headlines….”The President had to cut his vacation short because………”
It’s a hard job.

July 12th, 2006 at 4:19 pmReal smart. You listed national debts. How about listing GDP. Typical, see what you want to see. When did North Korea start their nuke program? I bet your going to say “AFTER THAT GD BUSH TOOK OFFICE”. Is Iran dangerous? IT IS AFTER THAT GD BUSH TOOK OFFICE! Hey, your a funny guy Bruce. You crack me up. Everything in the world isn’t about BUSH. Not everything evolves around BUSH or CLINTON or REAGAN……

You claimed to have a country whose economy the rest of the world envies. Personally, I don’t envy that debt. Further, the following countries don’t envy your unemployment statistics:
Rank Country Value / Unit
1. Andorra 0.00 %
Nauru 0.00 %
3. Uzbekistan 0.50 %
4. Aruba 0.60 %
5. Azerbaijan 1.10 %
6. Liechtenstein 1.30 %
7. Kiribati 2.00 %
8. Belarus 2.10 %
Kuwait 2.10 %
10. Thailand 2.20 %
11. Palau 2.30 %
12. United Arab Emirates 2.40 %
13. Cambodia 2.50 %
14. Cuba 2.60 %
San Marino 2.60 %
16. Qatar 2.70 %
17. British Virgin Islands 3.00 %
18. Monaco 3.10 %
19. Mexico 3.30 %
20. Cyprus 3.40 %
Iceland 3.40 %
Korea, South 3.40 %
23. Luxembourg 3.60 %
Malaysia 3.60 %
25. Switzerland 3.70 %
Ukraine 3.70 %
And if you look at GDP per capita, its true, America is in second place. Right after Luxembourg. You come here and you make a blanket statement like that, well, expect to have it knocked down.

No one here is saying the Clinton adminstration is completely blameless…but at the same time what Bush has not taken responsibility for the following issues that have led us to the situation we are currently in, such as:
1. IGNORING 52 separate warnings (from CIA and FBI sources as well as foriegn governements) of an imminent attack in the Summer of 2001
2. Hithcing his entire War on Terror to one nation , Iraq, and in the process completely ignoring the threats posed by Iran and North Korea for the last 3 years.
3. Allowing the name of CIA undercover operative working on preventing Iran from aquiring nuclear weapons to be LEAKED to the media and in essense disrupting any progress that was made to neutralize the Iran threat.
What say you sir…….You can in no way blame Clinton for the entire situation we are currently in….why is it that yourself and this administration refuses to take any resposibility or hold anyone accountable for the massive failures that have been perpetrated over the last 5 years…..WHY???? WHY???? WHY????
July 12th, 2006 at 4:44 pmlib4
Because it means taking personal responsibility for having voted for them.

truth is like that - short and simple…
July 12th, 2006 at 5:05 pmnot always easy… but imagine that…
No one here is saying the Clinton adminstration is completely blameless…
You are the first person on TP to ever admit that Clinton might have some responsibility for what happened. Thats a huge step forward. You mean like if he had gone after the terrorists like he should have after the first WTC attacks? Responded to USS Cole Attack in some way militarily. Bin Laden saw that we appeared weak and believed that Bush wouldn’t respond to the attack on 9/11. Are there some things I wish Bush would do differently? Yes. I wish he would communicate his agenda more clearly to the media and respond to personal attacks more often. I would have cleaned out the CIA and FBI long before he started to do it and forget about trying to be bipartison because look where that got him.
July 12th, 2006 at 5:07 pmThis is a real hardship for Bush Remember he was on his month long vacation when Katrina hit. And after it was all over, he took a few more days to “make up for those he missed”
Oh and poor Laura. She will not get to be queen of the pool and to visit her garden club in Huston. And Condi will not get to go on this vacation either.
Too bad–his manufactured image of the tough, nonchalent, uninvolved cowboy with a big, cowboy, ranch in Texas, is in the process of being changed to a real involved guy, a great leader, who values detent and all that shit. He is just being re-manufactured. he is a trained monkey and those who control him, pull the strings.
And it is disconcerting to think it will work. But it will, especially with the media puffing it up ad nauseum.
July 12th, 2006 at 5:28 pmBoy Bruce. How bout listing the unempolyement rate in the European Union. Palau and Aruba? Going to CIA.gov? And I’m not blaming everything on Clinton either. I’ve had several differences with Bush such as…..
1. Border Security
2. UAE Port deal
3. Harriot Myers nomination
4. Government spending through the roof
Believe it or not, we are all in this together. Were on the same damn side Bruce and katy and Rissen and Mr. Evil. We can disagree on how to survive in this world, but claiming the President of the United States is in bed with Bin Laden and the U.S. government let 9/11 happen on purpose to help it take over the world’s oil supply and on and on and on………. Man alive.
July 12th, 2006 at 5:38 pmWOW! This is impressive. Nothing has interfered with his vacation in the past. It must be really important that he try to maintain the facade that he actually works.
July 12th, 2006 at 5:43 pmOh by the way, the President never leaves the White House, the White House travels with him. It’s been that way for over a hundred years now. A President’s vacation is different than you or I going on a safari….
July 12th, 2006 at 5:44 pm“Looking engaged” in many jobs means “pretending to be working while slacking off”.
If Bush’s handlers really want him to “look engaged”, I suggest he not vacation at all and instead do some work instead of photo-ops and raising money for Bush Republican candidates.
If Bush was a real man, he would realize what a monumental failure he is, and spend every free moment of his time trying to fix all the problems he has caused.
July 12th, 2006 at 5:54 pmWhy doesn’t that fool just go on vacation and stay there forever. He’s ruined this country. We don’t need another 2 1/2 years of his ass. IMPEACH!
July 12th, 2006 at 5:57 pmbut claiming the President of the United States is in bed with Bin Laden and the U.S. government let 9/11 happen on purpose to help it take over the world’s oil supply and on and on and on………. Man alive.

then it is obvious you do not know or care less about the history of the bushes and obl and the saudi kingdom in reference to oil. they have been in bed since the 70’s. that is when grandaddy bush made his first dive into oil with the sauds and obl. why did bushwhack ‘give up’ on obl. why wasn’t bush worried about obl and blatantly said so? now if in fact this is the worlds worst terrorist bushyboy would want to go after him dead or alive with his billy bad ass. right? come on now, let’s not be naive. apply common sense and history will lprove it. the ones that don’t believe believed in their gov during vietnam. our gov is one of the most dirtiest out there.

After Katrina struck, and Bush went back to Washington, McClellan was asked about this. McClellan said going back to D.C. was not merely symbolic. I don’t care what kind of super-fax he has, he is less engaged when he’s on his ranch.
Or do you think it’s coincidence that the really bad things happen after he’s been on “vacation” for a month or more?
July 12th, 2006 at 6:22 pmYou mean like if he had gone after the terrorists like he should have after the first WTC attacks? Responded to USS Cole Attack in some way militarily.
Responding to the Cole attack was Bush’s responsibility. The attack was in 2000 and the evidence was gathered and the guilty parties identified in early 2001. Condi explained why Bush CHOSE not to respond to that attack.
Clinton did track down and arrest those guilty of the ‘93 bombing, and his supporters didn’t blame Bush I for it either. But some think that being strong on defense means you kill more people. For example, say 18 marines get killed in Africa and in response the President fires his Secretary of Defense and pulls our troops out. You might say that’s weak. You might say a real man would stick it out even after getting 2,500 soldiers killed and say “I’m the decider.” I guess if you measure foreign policy in terms of body count…
July 12th, 2006 at 6:27 pmHey bs, you don’t have one single half on an ounce of proof for none of your conspiracies. Must be some good acid. Your saying that because the Bush family has ties to oil, IT CERTAINLY HAS TIES TO TERRORISM AND BIN LADEN so it can achieve oil bliss…. Bush let Bin Laden get away? I want to see a picture of Osama. What does he look like? They have tapes that SOUND like Osama. Hell bs, you being Mr. conspiracy, what’s up with that? And the Katrina mess was a failure of state, local and federal governments. But in Kermit’s world, THAT GD BUSH CAUSED THE DAMN HURRICANE IN THE FIRST PLACE BECAUSE OF GLOBAL WORMING, THEN THAT GD BUSH DIDN’T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT HELPING THE PEOPLE OF NEW ORLEANS BECAUSE THE WERE BLACK DEMOCRATS THAT NEVER VOTED FOR HIM! Wow!

July 12th, 2006 at 9:48 pm#54 Read again what I said. Bush rushed back to D.C. when he realized how serious the situation was. That should tell you that being on vacation in Crawford is NOT the same as being on the job in D.C. Bush knows that, why don’t you?
Incompetence is not the same as not caring.
July 13th, 2006 at 1:32 pmJim, I actually feel 9/11 was Bush’s fault via negligence or incompetence rather then via malice. Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression there.
That said, the fact is this president has had the most vacation time of any president in history, and frankly after Katrina, I don’t think it was working holidays.
The following is a liberal site (claims to be centrist) but the information was gathered at the time from various “trusted” sources.

July 13th, 2006 at 2:20 pmDiscussing his vacation plans is meaningless when we saw how he performed at the G-8 conference in St. Petersburg. The scene of him talking with his mouth full of food was, to say the least, disgusting. He swore on microphone and I would appreciate the President of the United States not using swear words while at an international conference.
Then he attempts to massage Chancellor Angela Merkel’s neck without any indication that she wanted him to do so. Another embarrassment. But after all, he thinks that “great presidents win wars.” He’ll prbably continue to promote/start wars until he is out of the White House or is impeached. I would suggest everyone writing here to contact your representative to impeach this war criminal.
