Last night, Bill O’Reilly and radio host Laura Ingraham tag teamed to slam the New York Times for publishing a picture of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld’s vacation home. O’Reilly repeatedly called the publication of the picture “awful.” O’Reilly didn’t mention that the pictures were taken with Rumsfeld’s permission and the Secret Service said the photo did not constitute a security threat. Watch it:
Transcript:
INGRAHAM: I got the view from — in the makeup room, by the way, that you got a B plus but a very strong B plus from him. That’s what he told me.
But look, he believes that the New York Times is an absolute national treasure, and the New York Times believes that it truly is being patriotic when it publishes the banking records that, you know, of story when it publishes a photo of the secretary of defense’s vacation home, as it did last week.
O’REILLY: Yes, I know, that was awful. Awful.
INGRAHAM: That was bizarre.
O’REILLY: It was awful.
INGRAHAM: I mean, they showed the security camera in the photos. They think they’re being patriotic when every day page after page after page is devoted to what’s wrong with America and what America is doing wrong. That’s their vision of being patriotic. We have — I have a different vision of what being patriotic is.
what?? isn’t this old news? apparently they have nothing better to seize on. reminds me of the Santorum WMD re-hash…
idiots
July 12th, 2006 at 2:25 pmHey, it was a slow news day… give the guy a break!
July 12th, 2006 at 2:27 pmO’Reilly is still alive? I thought he melted when the house hit him.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:28 pmThis has to be another “War on Christmas” moment for O’Reilly.
Too bad his viewers will believe anything he bloviates.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:28 pmTypical — BO stirring up stupid shit…
July 12th, 2006 at 2:29 pmYep, that is why I am a liberal right there.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:29 pmIt is not patriotic to point out what is wrong with America if you are doing to to bring awareness to it may be improved.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:29 pmIt IS patriotic to point out what is wrong with America if you are doing to to bring awareness to it may be improved.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:29 pmO’sleazy told a lie! Stop the presses! Actually we better wait for the day he actually tells the truth about something.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:29 pmBill O’Reilly and Fox get all the top Democrats as guests.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:37 pmThat’s all that needs to be said.
I caught this clip last night (Countdown was at commercial I believe). Could feel the numbness come over me, IQ points slipping away. Had to snap out of it and quickly turned the channel. Shopping network, much more informational.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:37 pmNow just how many times have I seen Kennibunkport on TV ,hmmmmm? thousands?

July 12th, 2006 at 2:41 pmLook at the article, it Says B.O Said this last night. That does NOT make this story old news. It shows the BO did not read the old news, like you did not read the article above.
They think they’re being patriotic when every day page after page after page is devoted to what’s wrong with America and what America is doing wrong. That’s their vision of being patriotic. We have — I have a different vision of what being patriotic is.
So Repubs finally concede that things are going wrong in America….but their real problem is not that things are going wrong, just that the news media REPORTS whats going wrong…………….
For people with a world view that is apocalyptic at best ……
they sure do love to wear rose colored glasses when it comes to protecting the Bush Administration from well deserved criticism
July 12th, 2006 at 2:42 pmWhere does Dumsfeld live, Skull Island? Hiding his booty in the bunker caves beneath? I think he qualifies as a legit Pirate.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:42 pmwhen are you guys gonna get it? O’Reilly and Ingraham are not erudite political pundits. They represent Bart Simpson political ideology…if there is such a thing They are shallow, rage-provoking entertainers, not respected analysts. Its part of the grand plan of CORPORATE Fox News to maintain viewing interest and by extension garner PROFITS. These guys are laughing all the way to the bank at your expense & you can’t see this? Turn you goddamn idiot box off and read a book or something!!
July 12th, 2006 at 2:44 pmBIG DEAL! most of the high-priced call boys know where it is already.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:45 pmWhy would the NY Times want to publish Rumsfeld’s vacation house anyway? Seems like they just want to stir up the public by showing that Rumsfeld has what they don’t.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:48 pmIf you Mo0b@+5 want to show up at the Vice President’s house and cause trouble let me know. I want to tape the whole thing and sell it to the news agencies.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:49 pmP.S. What else was Spillers SUPPOSED to say about the “permission” received – “I didn’t have permission and I’m lucky not to be in custody,”?
Busy day scheduled….
July 12th, 2006 at 2:50 pmAny information that is released concerning the activities of the Bush administration is treason, and the publishers, editors, and writers involved should be hanged. So should those who deliver this news. Execute some news anchors and some paper boys, and the world will be safe again. Just because Rummy gave permission to use these images means nothing. Drug dealers give their clients permission to use crack cocaine, don’t they? It does not make it legal to use it, though.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:51 pmma you once again show yourself as a completely absorbed automoton of the Karl Rove mold.
Of course you think the publishing of photo’s was treasonous. Amazingly, you don’t seem to address the fact that the photographer & the newspaper had permission to photograph and write about the houses.
You ma’am, are a true brownshirt carrying the flag for the reichtwingnutz.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:51 pmCAPTION CONTEST!!!

July 12th, 2006 at 2:56 pmSorry for the detour. I had meant to comment on seeing Laura Ingram but ma’s post changed mine.
I don’t miss seeing/hearing from good ole Laura I. Having not heard from/seen her lately, I had completely forgotten about the witch (and I am sorry for giving the good wiccan’s in the crownd a bad referance). I guess I had tought she fell off the side of the earth, her being a true flate earther and all. Alas, she did not. Apparently she is still here.
Thank goodness I hadn’t had lunch yet. She is good for anyones diet plan.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:56 pmLet’s see if I understand this correctly. Your (illegal and immoral) invasion of Iraq is causing the deaths of dozens, if not hundreds, of people daily. Your government is flopping around like a belligerent drunk in a bar threatening everyone in sight with military strikes (Iran, North Korea, Syria). Israel, your best buddy in the whole gosh darn world, is openly engaging in a war of aggression against its neighbor, the Palestinians. Your country is bankrupt. Your elderly are being screwed by their own sons and daughters. And, you have thrown your poor to the wolves with less regard than you would have for yesterday’s table scraps.
And one of your major news outlets spends its valuable (I know, debatable) airtime airing its grievances about the publication of a picture of ONE of your Secretary of Defense’s many homes?
You all are lost. Please, reverse course immediately before you walk yourself off a cliff like lemmings.
July 12th, 2006 at 2:58 pmHoo boy…
Gotta watch Countdown tonight!
You know Keith isn’t gonna let this one slip by…every time Falafel-boy pulls a knucklehead manuver like this, Keith calls him on it, and the Countdown’s numbers rise slightly while the Factor’s fall slightly.
Honestly, I think the reason most people watch the Factor nowadays is so they can see this insanity firsthand…O’Reilly’s the ‘train wreck’ here, not Olbermann, and like the proverbial ‘train wreck’, you know you shouldn’t stare, but you just can’t seem to look away.

move on, nothing to see here….
July 12th, 2006 at 3:18 pmI see that Mighty Aphrodite came in here to take another dump. You would think that someone so concerned with Rummy’s security would consider enlisting in the Armed Forces so he/she could guard Rummy when he makes his secret trips to Iraq and Afghanistan.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:22 pmDo you think that anybody will take you seriously when you use 1337 speak? Not to mention, as has been pointed out, there is an |\| in moonbat.

July 12th, 2006 at 3:23 pmRummy needs no guards. His physical conditioning and menacing scowl are all he needs.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:23 pmThe secret service said the picture was not a security threat. It was not.
The leak of an undercover CIA agent was determined to be have done real damage to our ability to gather intelligence. That’s much more than a threat.
That was done with the Presidents approval. It was done so the President could lie about uranium from Niger. It was done so the President could lie to Americans and convince to go to war with a country that was no threat to the US. THAT’S TREASON AND IT’S TIME TO PROSECUTE THE REAL TRAITOR.
By the way the LA times and the Wall Street Journal also got permissioin to print the photo.
Conservatives are followers looking for an authoritarian to tell them what to do. These weak minded people have latched on to George Bush as their daddy figure. What a poor choice they’ve made. It doesn’t matter to them that he’s a lousy incompetent leader. It dosen’t matter if he bankrupts the US financially, morally and militarily. They have made their choice and will continue to follow him through his ever increasing list of failure and disgrace. The truth, logic and reason don’t apply to these trolls.
FYI – The average age of an O’Rielly fan is 71 years old. HaHAHAHAHA…..

How about:
Donald Rumsfeld does not need guards, because he can catch bullets in his teeth and shot them back at his enemies.
July 12th, 2006 at 3:29 pmSo let’s look at this info here. The Post Office knows where these guys live. The election department knows. The local pizza place, in addition to the whole neighborhood knows where they live. The real estate people in the area know. The local radio and tv stations know. But telling the American public at large is “awful”!You’ve gotta love Fox news.I wonder if O’Reilly whinnies when somebody says “New York Times”.Anybody remember Frau Blukher from Young Frankenstein?

Since I am one of those you are referring to, I see it fit to respond.
You obviously did not read the other story being referenced by Judd and that reads as follows:
But I just got through talking with Hollen Wheeler, director of public affairs for Rumsfeld’s office. She confirmed what Glenn Greenwald has reported — that the photographer, Linda Spillers, had been granted permission to photograph Rumsfeld’s house by Rumsfeld himself.
Wheeler also added of the picture: “It’s already out in the public domain. I’m a little confused about why this has caused such an uproar.”
So, in a nutshell: Linda Spillers told Glenn Greenwald the NYT had permission from Sec Rumsfeld himself to publish something already in public domain -which was confirmed by the director of public affairs for Rumsfeld’s office.
Everytime I think you cannot possibly get any dumber, you prove me wrong…
July 12th, 2006 at 3:55 pmLet’s not get too harsh with the ever-blithering MA
After all, it can’t be that easy for MA to bloviate the GOP’s media-whores talking points-like O’Reilly and Ingraham here-and still pretend to either think for itself or have the least shred of any credibility and logic whatsoever
Instead, let’s all be thankful that MA at least knows how to use complete sentences and words longer than one syllable
Good job MA, you so totally rock lil’ trooper

Idiot – you’re a Great American!
July 12th, 2006 at 3:58 pmThis is just more confirmation that Bill O’lie-lly is one of the biggest douchebags on tv. Maybe if Bill spent more time researching his stories and less time having sex in the shower with a falafel (or whatever it is he claims to enjoy doing over the phone to his female co-workers) then maybe we’d see a bit of actual journalism. There needs to be more people out there who are willing to expose this bigoted sexual predator for the fraud that he is. I’m surprised Laura Ingram was willing to get that close to him, but then again she probably doesn’t have to worry about him touching her since she totally looks like a man.

July 12th, 2006 at 4:14 pm#30 – “Let’s see if I understand this correctly. Your (illegal and immoral) invasion of Iraq is causing the deaths of dozens, if not hundreds, of people daily.” Comment by Humanist
Dear Humanist – I admire the way you attempt to appear intelligent – sadly, you often miss the mark. Your first sentence is faluty – you do NOT understand CORRECTLY. As I have stated here on more than one occasion, the resumption of the Iraq War was legitimate due to the Iraqi governments’ violation of the 1991 Cease Fire Agreement. Apparently you are not aware that a Peace Treaty and a Cease fire are two DIFFERENT things. An understandable confusion, but incorrect nonetheless. Perhaps you can redeem your self-laudatory reputation for having an above average IQ by answering the following question. Name the two people who said the following:
a.)”I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force – if necessary – to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security.”
b.)”We have known for many years that Saddam is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.”
Answers: a.) Sen. John Kerry, (D-MA) 10/09/02
b.) Sen. Edward Kennedy, (D-MA) 09/27/02
So as you regurgitate the Progressive talking points (that little tidbit about Israel – while forgetting to mention the kidnapping and rockets was just the gravitas your liberal credentials needed) remember you are the same type of propagandist you accuse others of being.
Back in session….
July 12th, 2006 at 4:21 pm- mighty aphrodite:
There’s one little fact you’re leaving out when you quote Kerry and Kennedy…and that that they were acting on the intelligence they were given. Intelligence, as it turns out, was manipulated, cherry-picked, and in some cases, outright fabricated – all on the orders of the administration – to make the case for the war.
When you consider that, your point…well, you don’t really have a point anymore, now do you?
July 12th, 2006 at 4:28 pmthat little tidbit about Israel – while forgetting to mention the kidnapping and rockets
Israel kills another 13 Palestinians Including 5 Children: Thirteen Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip since early Wednesday morning, when the Israel Occupation Forces invaded Gaza.
Nine Palestinians, including seven children, killed in Israeli airstrike: Sharply escalating its military campaign in the Gaza Strip, Israel dropped a quarter-ton bomb on a home Wednesday. Nine members of a family, including seven children, were killed.
Israeli use of poisonous material alleged: The ministry called on the international community and human rights organization “to send medical committees to examine the wounded and verify the existence of poisonous material in their bodies caused by Israeli weapons.”
The Influence of Israel and its American Lobby over US Middle East Policy : The apparent ability of Israel, one of the world’s smallest countries, to shape the Middle East policies of the world’s remaining superpower has been a source of puzzlement, conjecture, and constant frustration on the part of those fighting for justice for the Palestinians and for the peoples of the region, as a whole.
July 12th, 2006 at 4:34 pmIt’s getting easier to see who’s greasing Bill O’Reilly’s palms! All that needs to happen is for this to continue more and we’ll have more of a complete picture of who’s involved. What’s most interesting though is that he thinks we are all stupid to believe everything.
It’s Blogs like ThinkProgress and others that really surface the truth. Thanks Guys!
I’m curious though, with what they will say later as more unfolds with the Criminal Element that’s in our Federal Government? It would be wise for readers to realize that they brag with calling themselves “The World’s Largest Criminal System”. As it is, there has been a number of “most intereseting” suspicious links to suggest this exists! Wait, there’s more coming and it’s a lot better than what we’ve been seeing!

Again, you need to get up and take a trip to those places you so confidently talk about. Watching the american media is not a reliable source of info. You know shit.
It’s getting easier to see who’s greasing Bill O’Reilly’s palms. All we need is for more time to pass and we’ll see who all is involved. After all, they do brag with calling themselves “The World’s Largest Criminal System†and this is for good reason.
It’s web Blog’s like ThinkProgress and others that really helps us see the truth. Keep up the good work!
I’m constantly being stalked while on the Internet with intentions of stopping me. This is my second attempt to write this. There’s a lot more that the readers need to know about what this is. Already, if you look closely you should be starting to see suspicious links that suggest that a huge Criminal Element exists within our Federal Government. What you need to realize is that it extends beyond our shores to other countries too and there are other layers of criminal activities worse than corruption that are currently involved. I’m sure they are right around the corner from being surfaced!
July 12th, 2006 at 5:05 pmI see that my first post did take hold. On my end, I’m experiencing technical dificulties, one after another.
July 12th, 2006 at 5:07 pmThe mighty liar also failed to mention that Bush was given the authorization to use force as long as he went back to the UN and get their approval as well , which he didn’t do.
He didn’t go back to the UN because he knew they wouldn’t approve of his bogus war.
He knew they wouldn’t approve.
He knew because once again he was SPYING on the UN. Just like he’s SPYING on Democrats, peace activists, Quakers and vegans, and anyone else the traitorous little shit wants the listen in on illegally.
July 12th, 2006 at 5:13 pm#57-Mighty Aphrodite,
I do not “attempt to appear†anything, I only speak the truth. How you choose to digest such is entirely up to you.
Unlike the pathetic American political culture that has developed, I would never allow an affiliation to a “team†or, in your case, a political party to supersede intelligent thought or the pursuit of what is right and, most importantly, truth. So, your attempt to frame me in with selective quotes from other individuals is as misguided as it is foolish.
Now, your interpretation of the Iraq invasion as being legal is your own, I respect that. However, I am certain in my understanding of international law that it is not legal. We can debate that issue all day, I’m sure. But legalities are really only important to lawyers and my focus will always be on what is “rightâ€. Otherwise some moron would pass a law to make murder legal and then lemmings such as yourself would think it to be okay.
As far as the Iraq invasion being immoral, I am once again certain of my position in that regard. For you to imply that a “pre-emptive†act of aggression based upon falsehoods that has cost the lives of so many innocent CHILDREN, WOMEN, and MEN would have any moral basis illustrates quite clearly the level of your moral standards. That’s your choice and it will not be I who has to defend such. Good luck to you on that, by the way.
I do not receive “talking points†or marching orders from anyone. No sane or responsible person would, in my mind. I do not condone violence or murder by any one, regardless of nationality, political ideals, religious belief, or whatever other irrelevant justification one may use. My point with the Israeli war of aggression currently being waged was not an effort to pick sides, it was to point out how the sanctimonious and self-righteous United States is publicly ignoring yet another atrocity occurring before their very eyes. It is my belief that such ignorance is purposeful and based upon the bizarre and uncompromising loyalty and backing that the United States provides to Israel. A murder is a murder whether it is committed by Israelis, Palestinians, or Americans. It is disappointing that you do not have the ability to identify such.
Lastly, as far as accusing me of preaching propaganda, such is so incredibly absurd that it only betrays your level of cognitive incompetence. I speak only the truth and the truth is never included in propaganda. Also, one has to have an agenda in order to employ propaganda, and not only do not have an agenda, but I also do not follow anyone else’s, as you appear to be doing.
Challenge the truths and facts that I speak and I will be happy to discuss them with you. However, throwing out baseless insults and insinuations does me no harm in the least, but only reveals your own absence of integrity.
May peace be with us all.

July 12th, 2006 at 5:43 pmRE: #58 – Dear Monkey Trip – The “fabricated” intelligence information – the same info the previous Administration touted? I always understood the Clinton administration was acting on the BEST information they had – apparently such a simple concept evades you. Incapable of looking at the totality of a Muslim movement that wishes us all dead, your political leaders offer – what??? They are incapable of formulating a rational or realistic plan for defeating our enemies. If you would like to assign blame for the vicious spread of Islamofascism, go have a chat and point a finger at Mr. Jimmeh who couldn’t gut the CIA fast enough. Conservative pundits reveal murderous plot by the Travel Section of the NYT!
http://glenngreenwald.blogspot.com/2006/07/conservative-pundits-reveal-murderous.html
On June 8, 2003, the same New York Times published a lengthy article entitled “The Ex-President Next Door,” which provided every possible detail one would ever want to know, and then many more beyond that, about Bill and Hillary Clinton’s new home in Chappaqua, New York and the lives they lead there. The article contained numerous photographs of their home, and all sorts of information about where they eat, recreate and jog. The article is, I believe, behind Times Select, so here is the list of the photographs which accompanied the article:
Photos: Bill Clinton signs autographs for students after a speech at Horace Greeley High School. At Memorial Day ceremonies in Chappaqua, Hillary Rodham Clinton greeted Vietnam veterans. The Clintons’ home on Old House Lane in Chappaqua. (Photographs by James Estrin/The New York Times); (Richard L. Harbus for the New York Times)(pg. 1); Bill Clinton is showing up all over Westchester, including at the Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor, left, where he is a member. Some of his favorite places to eat include Crabtree Kittle House, below left, and Lange’s Deli, below right, both in Chappaqua. Mr. Clinton says he likes to run in Rockefeller State Park Preserve.

July 12th, 2006 at 5:56 pm****How morally astute! Unfortunately, you noted the war in Iraq to be “illegal and immoral”. what’s a nudnick?
July 12th, 2006 at 6:11 pm#71-Mighty Aphrodite,
Forgive the delay in responding, I had to finish laughing at your absurdity.
Just so you know, “truth” is not in the eye of the beholder. Perhaps that error is the basis for your insanity. There are not different versions of truth. You cannot bend it. You cannot change it. And, most certainly, you cannot create it. I am surprised, actually, that you seem to have a total absence of understanding in that regard. But it does explain a lot.
And since you totally ignore the truths that I communicated and instead want to just argue around semantics and irrelevancies, I will not participate in such foolishness and will leave you to that form of mental masturbation.
But I will deliver one parting thought for you. You say:
“And then you cleverly note that a law could be passed making murder legal – no known society or community has sanctioned such a practice – even those who utilized human sacrifice – but one never knows when every thread of morality will be thrown out!â€
Your society has passed laws instituting a Death Penalty hasn’t it? And for the innocent people who have been put to death under that law – and don’t be foolish enough to claim that such has not happened, it would only serve to discredit you further – then a lawful murder has occurred. You see, MA, making laws sanctioning murder is not only conceivable by the immoral, such is already in practice in your “enlightened†society. As you can see, your moral standing is already in negative territory.
Now, I really must go and I thank you for the opportunity to respond.
May peace be with us all, especially Mighty Aphrodite.
July 12th, 2006 at 6:13 pmAnd how exactly hard would it be to find a well-photographed ranch in Crawford, Texas if you were so inclined?
This is actually rather funny. The neocon paranoids are now terrified about the safety of their neocon war-mongeing leader from, get this, anti-war pacifists, tree-huggers and vegans.
BOO!
July 12th, 2006 at 6:29 pmThank you for treating us all to a FINE example of your intelligence

We’re still waiting for you to do half as well…
July 12th, 2006 at 6:31 pmA law making murder legal has already been passed in Florida.
July 12th, 2006 at 6:41 pmHumanist, it’s always a treat to read your posts, but it’s especially enjoyable when you’re putting someone down ever so politely!
July 12th, 2006 at 7:11 pm#78-Jane,
I had the chance to come back and see if Mighty Aphrodite had responded but I see that they chose not to. I hope that I was helpful in some regard.
Thank you, though, for your kind words.
Peace.
July 12th, 2006 at 7:38 pm#80-Mighty Aphrodite,
Truth is absolute. Any discipline that does not acknowledge that is not very, well, disciplined.
And I am pleased to hear that you are against murder. I look forward to you joining with the others in your country and around the world who are calling for your country to stop performing it in the name of its citizens. I guess some good came from this after all.
Have a wonderful evening and enjoy your social engagement.
Peace to all.
July 12th, 2006 at 7:48 pmMemorable quote:
Bill O’Reilly’s audience is so old they don’t remember when Iraq was like the Garden of Eden, they remember when Iraq was the Garden of Eden.

All liberals do is whine about republicans when you can do something about it. I’ve seen anarchist(libertarian) organizations(food not bombs) with way more potential than the corporate state itself could ever do. Organziation without hierachy and coercive government is the key, and no im not saying a perfect utopia, or a world without trade(capitalism). And no, anarchism does not mean chaos or no rules…………Stop whining about Bill O’reilly and go do something about poverty and social justice.

July 12th, 2006 at 9:56 pmI think self examination is one of the most important things a country should do. This administration refuses that, and proceeds with a “shut up, we’re always right” attitude. So, a newspaper being the concience for a country is in fact a patriotic act. Oh, you have a different idea of what is patriotism? I’m sure you do.
July 13th, 2006 at 1:27 pmPlease ignore Bill O’Reilly. Media Matters and a host of bloggers cover the endless nonsense from right wing talking heads. Stay above the fray and keep up the good work on more substantive issues.
July 13th, 2006 at 3:42 pm# Mighty “whatever”, yeah, that’s right b**ch, I called you a slut and ignorant. You “psuedo intellectuals” are pathetic!! Like you have all the knowledge, you are nothing more than another sorry MF**ker, that BELIEVES they have some kind of superior intellect.
F**k off.
