Senate Cover-up Committee update.

Sen. Pat Roberts is expected to announce new deadlines that will delay the completion of Phase II of the investigation into the manipulation of pre-war intelligence. CQ reports that the investigation is unlikely to be completed prior to the fall elections. Click HERE to track Roberts’ repeated efforts to stonewall the investigation.

for those of you keeping score at home, it was november 2005 when the democratic leader, senator reid, did the high drama of bringing the senate into super-secret session to demand action on the report… that didn’t do much, now did it? good ol’ harry has not done anything about since either… too busy voting for the flag-burning amendment, i guess.

this is your leadership! he must be replaced in the next congress with a democrat with a spine…

  2. Erroll says:

The Democrats should threaten to walk out in the Senate, and then do it, to protest Roberts’ ineffectiveness at doing his job at getting that report out as expeditiously as possible.

  3. Destroy the DLC says:

Haven’t heard much from the Democrats on this lately.

I did, however, just hear Harry Reid on Ed Schultz. He and the Democrats continue to speak of the blogosphere as seperate from American debate.

These “people” are just despicable. It never ends.

Golly. Imagine that. Who would have thought it would happen this way? Not, like, everyone, would you think?

  6. Alison Harstedt says:

Lynn Westmoreland is the genius who, after advocating displaying the ten commandments in court houses and other government buildings, could only list 3 of his precious 10 commandments when pressed for them by Stephen Colbert

How terribly convenient. I’m predicting that it will be unlikely to be completed prior to the 2008 elections as well….and 2012, and 2016…heck, what am I saying…by then we won’t be having elections any longer.

    Makes Nixonian stonewalling seem quaint…

How much you wanna bet that this is how things will shake out………..

    1. If DEMS win House majority he wont release it (DEM fodder for 2008 election)

    2. If REPUBS win House majority he wont release it (DEM fodder for 2008 election)

    Check this out.

Old Hugo Chavez is going to boycott mostly red states.

“The states where Citgo will stop selling gasoline are: Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma and South Dakota. A limited number of stations in Illinois, Texas, Arkansas and Iowa will also be affected.”

Frontline already did the work on phase 2. Thank God for PBS and NPR.

  12. Abby says:

Is it stonewalling if it is done with the blessing of the Democrats? If the Democrats had not been part of the cabal that got us into this mess, they would have frozen the government to a standstill a long time ago. Why do we still have a functioning Senate where “normal” business still continues to thrive under rules of “unanimous consent”?

It is fine to blame the Republicans for everything because they are, without a shadow of a doubt, guilty but these crooks plundered America because the guards turned a blind eye. Never forget that.

  13. Marty Didier says:

Their criminal activity appears to be speeding up. We’ve known for a long time about Sen. Pat Roberts and all he does is continue as if he has nothing to worry about. The Gas thing is interesting too, thanks for the link.

The Israeli stock market plunged on word that two more soldiers were captured and that Israel was getting entangled in a second front against Lebanese guerrillas.

Blogs aren’t touching this story. Wonder why.

  16. Marie says:

It is already a year past due from his then-past due report; now it will be delayed again. In 2004, it was a priority, then it was too complicated, then it was a waste of time. Roberts, the Bush lackey, thinks he can get away with this until he leaves office. BTWm When is that? It’s time for another Democratic boycott of the Senate.

  17. Zooey says:

If Roberts can’t do his job, he should be removed from the committee. Seems simple to me, but I have no doubt it’s ever so much more complicated than it should be.

  18. bs says:

to hell with the dems. where is a he/she that is for the people, for the nation and the interest of the american citizens. until then none of these pricks running for office deserve to be in.

The bloggers might get accused of anti-semitism for talking about it.

  20. Bluedog49 says:

Again and again, for those who believe there are no differences between the parties: do you seriously believe there wouldn’t have been this investigation a long time ago if Democrats were running the Senate? A Dem committee chairman, no matter who he or she is, no matter how conservative a Dem they would be, would have forced that investigation long before now.

  21. Bluedog49 says:

Abby: “Is it stonewalling if it is done with the blessing of the Democrats?”

No. 1, I defy anyone to come up with any evidence that this stonewalling has the “blessings” of any democrat.

No. 2, you people don’t seem to know how congress works. Dems have to work within the framework of Repub majority rules. That means they have no say over what a given committee will do. Dems have walked out on committees scores of times in the last 12 years. Dems have had their own meetings in the basement because Repubs won’t even give them a room to work in. The media has dutifully reapeated Repub spin points regarding any Dems who speak up. And on and on… Repubs have had Congress for 12 years. If you want change, vote for the Dem. It’s that simple.

  22. bs says:

    #20

noone is saying that there is NO difference. just that it is not wide enough margin that it will have change. no matter what it will always lean right of center.

  23. bs says:

    #19

    one word ROTHCHILDS

and the fact that the media is owned by them. the money is owned by them. and that we are so far up israelis ass daylight comes and goes has quick as the zionist take a shit.

and you do know why. so don’t be holding back.

  24. Bluedog49 says:

bs: “no matter what it will always lean right of center.”

You seem sure of that. I’m sorry that I have to break this to you, but we’re still in charge. By all means, support the leftiest people you can. I do. But when the rubber meets the road, I make my decisions in the real world. That’s why I didn’t vote for Nader. Gore, I felt, was a lot farther to the left than Bush. Now, really, can you point to more than a few of the hundreds of congressional races and say that the Repub is more to the left than the Dem? Come on, now. Change is incremental or it’s not change — it’s revolution. But your kind of fatalism isn’t going to solve any problems and it isn’t going to get us anywhere but more corporate control. Corporate power wants you to be apathetic. Corporate power wants you to believe that you can’t change anything. Corporate power wants you to believe there are no differences between the major political parties.

  25. Bluedog49 says:

Can any of you cite even one Democrat in the Senate who would not go forward with this investigation. Even frickin Joe Lieberman wants this investigation for crissakes! If Dems run the committee, the investigation will move forward quickly.

I’ve heard of the Rothchilds. You don’t grow up living in the same town as Alex Jones without hearing each and every conspiracy theory that has ever been thought up.

I used to think Alex was nuts… but after living through the last 6 years.. I dunno what to think anymore. He seems less and less crazy every day.

Maybe the world is just going crazy.

  27. bs says:

    bluedog49

i believe your missing my point. i do lean to the left when voting. when in doubt vote for demo. we are together on that. all i’m saying is in this world today it is hard to lean to the left when the left is right of center. i hear alot of talking points on the left by the left but they don’t veer to far from the right. for example min. wage, if we must go there.the repubs say no but the dems say $2. come on now. $2 lousy, scrimpy dollars. why not raise min. at least $9? it can be done by ending pork and who is going to do that. by stopping congress on giving themselves raises for however much and whenever they feel like it. cut the presidents pay and the pay for former presidents. cap on corporate wealth. now we would be comparing apple to oranges. i’m not a fatalist, i’m a realist. i don’t make excuses for the left or the right. i call it as i see it. and i see alot of bullshit. maybe you didn’t see my other post to you stating i was for gore hoping to carry on a somewhat clinton era. where is my view going to help the corporations? my view is that noone, i mean noone deserves that much money like these corps are ranking in. i believe in spreading the funds to all. afterall the middle class is what america thrives on. and sorry right now i believe we need to revolt instead of this ‘incremental change’ to nowhere. and that is where it is headed.

  28. bs says:

  29. bs says:

and there are many others for comparison we both know this. right now i can make orange juice out of apples.

  30. Abby says:

#21 Bluedog49, You are right. Beyond the fact that our representatives, most of the time, read speeches drafted by their corporate sponsors, I have no idea of how our government works.

I do know that the simple act of withdrawing unanimous consent on each and every request would seriously hamper how efficiently business is conducted of the floor of the Senate. Hamper it enough, I think, to cause serious problems and force the Republicans to concede some of the Democrats’ demands. There have to be many other ways.

The Democrats may not have the power to forward Bills, subpoena witnesses or even go to the bathroom without permission but do you seriously believe that the Democrats have done all that they can to make Roberts move on Phase II? I do not think they have.

As you can tell, I am no Democrat but I will vote for the Democrats. You know how it is; an enemy of my enemy is my friend. I may get lucky though. With all the non-work the Democrats are doing to ensure fair elections next time around, my vote may not even be counted.

yes, we shall have no criticism of israel! how dare you???

they misplace a soldier that i sent to southern lebanon, and that gives them the right to bomb syria, iran, lebanon, the palestinians…isn’t that reasonable????

and, if you say ‘no’ i am going to call you an anti-semite….isn’t fifty years of brain-washing just peachy???

  32. james risser says:

can halliburton just get the israeli re-building projects now?? get dick on the phone! i think they are going to be needing some rebuilding real soon….

maybe that is why halliburton stopped getting the iraqi dough??? the real money will be in israel and syria.

  33. james risser says:

the democrats have 44/45 votes. they can shut down the senate and block any and all cloture votes. they can walk out in protest. they ‘parliamentary inquiry’ the president of the senate all day long. they can filibuster. they can speak for as long as they can stand on two feet. this ‘we can’t do anything because we aren’t the majority…whaa whaa whaa’ is NOT true.

they can stop the war machine, but, i don’t think twenty or thirty of them have the balls….

  34. Bluedog49 says:

Abby and bs, don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying the Dems are even near perfect. But, we have to work with what we’ve got here. James Risser, if you expect the Democratic party to march in lock-step like Stalinists or like the current Repub party, you’re always going to be disappointed. Democrats don’t speak with exactly the same voice and I’m fine with that. The strict, talking point lockstep, always on message discipline of the Repub party reminds me of Stalinist Russia.

  35. james risser says:

that is where you are mistaken, #34.

don’t confuse ‘lock-step’ with a cohesive vision and a consistent view of what is and what is not shameful. if being a ‘democrat’ means anything, then, it ought to mean that certain things should not be tolerated… if, as you imply, being a democrat means ‘we don’t speak in one voice’ then they should call themselves the BABALIST party, and should move out of the way and have the PROGRESSIVES pick up the slack they are too lazy, too corrupt, too fractured to pick up themselves.

  36. Jay Randal says:

Sen. Harry Reid thinks the Democrats might retake the Senate, but if Lieberman, Ben Nelson and Feinstein get re-elected the Dems still lose, because those 3 are really GOP members who masquerade as Dems! Democrats could retake the House of Representatives, if Nancy Pelosi was more aggressive and not caving to the GOP so much!

  37. Arne Langsetmo says:

This is news? Oh, yeah, the sun also rose in the East today,

    </snark>

    Cheers,

Keep it up and all us Jews are voting with the Republicans this Fall.

    GO LIEBERMANN!

  40. Fence Builder says:

    #38,
Ed Schultz probably knows more about
today’s political climate than you realize.
    Why did you post that?
