in the Washington area two years ago” were “were smuggled from the battlefields of Iraq by a soldier in the U.S. Army Reserve.” Law enforcement officials are concerned that such weapons could more often be used in U.S. crimes because of the availability and low cost of the guns in Iraq and Afghanistan.
How’d they get here? Are our leaders just going *SHRUG* Yeah, go ahead, take ‘em home. When soldiers ask to have their weapons? Disgusting.
July 16th, 2006 at 4:03 pmSo much for the Repulican war on crime.
July 16th, 2006 at 4:34 pmSo by fighting the war abroad, we’re actually still fighting the war at home.
July 16th, 2006 at 4:35 pmIn Nam, when returning home, they merely packed them in a personal return package and shipped ‘em back. Our group only checked boxes that weighed over 90 pounds and sometimes found as many as six mortar shells in a single shipment. Something really nice to take deer hunting, ground meat on the hoof and no field dressing to boot.
July 16th, 2006 at 4:42 pmGiven what’s going on in the Middle East, I expect to be blown up in my apt. in midtown Manhattan before I expect to be shot by a repatriated weapon from Iraq or Afghanistan.

July 16th, 2006 at 5:43 pmNothing to worry about, if it happens, you’d never know what happened.
Well, what I found most remarkable was this is the first time in 10 years the Post reverses the long campaign of deceptiona nd dishonesty practiced by gun banners
1) that what the so called assault weapons ban applied to was not in fact “weapons of war” and that machine guns are in fact very different and very much more difficult to obtain.
2) that legal guns in Virginia arent the source of DC and Maryland’s problems, rather criminals are
3) that the gun banners have made it cheaper and easier to purchase a machine gun illegally ($1,000 according to the article) than to do it legally (last time I looked, a 20+ year old, legal and transferable AK47 – only was registered before 1986 are transferable to civilians – cost in the range of $15,000+ in addition to at least a 6 month background wait and a $200 tax to ATF).
You want progress, rid yourselves of the gun banning bigots that still infect the democratic party. 16 of them in the Senate voted to allow the state to trump the constitution and ban guns. If you are serious about progressives winning and brining real change to American politics, dont focus on Joe Lieberman but focus on throwing those 16 traitors out of the Democratic party.
You might be surprised, but I bet once these statists are excommunicate, Dems might actually start winning again.
July 16th, 2006 at 5:56 pmCountertop, post the names please…Not kidding..Lot’s of us dem’s are for the constitution and not the politicians…If they are not doing what the voters want we need to vote them out, left, right and center. I am a gun owner by the way……Blessings
July 16th, 2006 at 6:39 pm2nd ammendment… guns for forming a militia. Does that mean that the revolution will be starting soon?
July 16th, 2006 at 7:20 pmdont focus on Joe Lieberman but focus on throwing those 16 traitors out of the Democratic party.

How did you get this above from that below?

Law enforcement officials are concerned that such weapons could more often be used in U.S. crimes
I see we have a gun nut here who blames the democrats for wanting to take away his little pop gun.
The concern over the weapons came from law enforcement, not from the democrats.
July 16th, 2006 at 8:35 pmMr Heston you can go back to polishing your gunbarrel and blowing crap up on the farm…
Soldiers are a reflection of the society that they come from. Amazing how those with an agenda seize every opportunity to advance it, no matter how droll. Think about it. In a nation of 300 Million individuals, you choose to focus on the act of one and generalize about the efforts of all. Pretty sad.
July 16th, 2006 at 8:47 pmspeedo, Do you remember the panic when that sniper was on the loose in the DC area? Apparently it does only take one or two spoiled apples to ruin the entire barrel.
Dubya and Co. must think tso too, BBQ in Germany and it only took 40 tons of concertina and 12k police, including the entire elite Grenzschutz no doubt, because he was afraid of that one bad apple.
July 16th, 2006 at 10:04 pmPerpetual war is the gift that keeps on giving
July 17th, 2006 at 3:29 amAren’t they running out of guns in Iraq? If so then it shouldn’t that cheap now….but it’s way cheaper and easier to get in the states i guess.
July 17th, 2006 at 5:31 amPost edit: i was saying it should be easier to get THAN in the States. Sorry for the double post.
July 17th, 2006 at 5:32 amAh, the beauty of full capitalist system. Not only Haliburton and McDonnell Douglas can earn the money from the War bussiness, the small guy also can earn some dollars breaking laws and smuggling weapons… and all thanks to a Constitution who grants war weapons to every whacko in the USA with a couple dollars…

I can’t think of a single issue that’s cost the Dems more votes than gungrabbing.

July 17th, 2006 at 11:53 amYeah, since you can probably lump all the troops in with the few bad apples who pulled this stunt.
Don’t be a jerk, it only helps the right wing insinuate that we progressives don’t really respect the troops.
