“The House on Tuesday rejected a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. … The 236-187 vote for the proposal to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman was 47 short of the two-thirds majority needed.”
Good. Can we move on now to the “less” important “family issues” like health care, job security, and minimum wage as well as issues involving our responsibility to the environment, world peace, and other such mundane stuff.
Good points PLC, given the way this congress has conducted it’s self so far think it is highly unlikely….My guess is they will be debating on which way a ping pong ball bounces when hit by what kind of paddle before they accomplish anything. Remember they only have to show up 97 days to collect the big bucks……Blessings
Another day wasted in Washington, and they aren’t working enough to be doing this crap. You hit the nail on the head, Sharon & PLC. Sharon, they’ll be debating for weeks on what color ping pong ball to use…
I am disgusted by the fact that it was proposed and voted on in the first place. Only 47 short? I thought this country was founded on freedom and equal oppurtunity. We have worked so hard to fight social injustices and I believe that Gay rights is the next big issue in civil liberties.
this is what are elected officails are really arguing? this is what are tax paying dollars are going for? this ought to show everyone the kind of intellect we are dealing with. a wast of f. space.
I just read the a bill was introduced in the House to kill the penny. Whew and I thought that they would have to discuss the wars, health care and other boring trivial subjects.

KILL THE PENNY! Take your pick of these:
How many more must die at the hands of this Congress and administration?
Kill the penny: the newest Republican economic initiative.
Kill the penny: the angry white man’s answer to Kill Bill.
The penny must go, it’s got that Republican traitor Lincoln’s image on it.
Kill the penny, so we can’t have any more of Americans’ two-cents in the
political process.
Glad to know that so many of our Congressmen and women are wasting yet more of our time working to add discrimination and hate into the Constitution. Good to know some of our Congressmen and women are standing up for civil liberties though. And nice to see yet another blow to the right wing religious extremists.
These votes are intended to position repubs for the November election. They only want to put dems in a defensive positon (in their view) on issues of gay marriage, immigration and stem cell research. REAL issues of health care, minimum wage increase, political corruption and election fraud will not generate the anger they need to get idiots out to vote for them.
As proclaimed in the First Amendment, Government shall “make no law respecting the establishment of religion.†It should leave Holy Matrimony to religious organizations, and restrict its regulation of relationships between people to the contract responsibilities that are set forth in the Constitution. Thus, it should provide for the legal entry of consenting adults into civil unions.
If gays and lesbians, or others, desire to extend a Civil Union into Sacramental Marriage, they can use their religious freedom to find a body of faith that will sanctify their contractual relationship. If they cannot find one, their freedom of religion entitles them to start a denomination of their own.
What a surprise. Republicans once again avoid having to have their own ’standards’ applied to them. What a shame. Now Republicans won’t be able to use it for this year’s election campaigns. Bummer for them. Thank you, Rep.Davis.
Why don’t these republicans in the majority get a fricken life? They are bringing to the floor GAY MARRIAGE when we have a war out of control in Iraq, dead american soliders, dead Iraqi’s, heathcare issues, election fraud, halliburton, jack abramhoff, government spying on americans, missing millions in Iraq, and on and on and on. Leave gay people alone. They are human just as everyone else is. God wouldn’t shy away from helping ANYONE that needed it. Stop the hate by calling out those who discriminate against others.
Republicans decided the anti-Gay marriage thing does not get them any support for the November elections, but encouraging Israel to attack Iran, and Syria, gets them another war to confuse the voters again > sad but true!
too bad we don’t need a simple majority to send the freaks back to the closet. Homosexuality is NOT a civil right it is a mental disorder. and before you even post here moonbats, liberal definition of bigot: anybody that does not agree with you.
thsi so called gay “marriage” will help conservatives win again because Americans do not want and will not recognize the “right” of sexual degenerates to marry. get over it.

Sorry, homosexuality is not a recognized mental disorder by those trained and qualified to make such diagnoses. You can call it a sin if you want. You can not engage in homosexual behavior if you want. You can belong to a church that prohibits homosexual marriage if you want. But, if you are going to be an AMERICAN, you should recognize others’ right to believe and act in opposition to you providing they are not limiting your rights. Unfortunately, you advocate the un-American restriction of rights for your fellow citizens.
Moonbat
I never said you couldn’t live in the US. I’ve only ever heard the “love it or leave it” stuff from your side of the fence.
No, both APA’s eliminated homosexuality as a mental illness because of science, facts.
No, the military no longer lists homosexuality as a mental deficiency, a recent change.
Marriage is loving. Many heterosexuals have mocked the concept. Homosexuals haven’t even had the chance. Homosexuals haven’t ruined families, heterosexuals did that with their own actions.
all right I apologize for the venom today. I had a most defecatory (is that a word?-it should be it sounds more respectable than”shit”). I know my level of innflammation was approaching the level of the temperature on the face of the sun but never mind my little problems.
here is the deal- the way it looks the world is gonna end in a big hot flash soon anyway. the way things are going the nuclear powers are going to be sponsoring a world wide barbecue soon and unfortunately looks like we are all invited sooo.
I propose a truce amongst plebians. I’ll support civil unions so as to placate you on the left who support homosexual lifestyles and you just leave me alone when it comes to my second ammendment rights OK?
Does somebody here suppose gays & lesbians are being denied equal rights of all us citizens? Just which right?
They have the equal right I have, and George and Martha Washington had, and Bubba & Hillary have. The right to marry in church or with a JP, a person of the opposite sex. Gays have the right; it’s equal to ours. Didn’t Arianna Huffington marry her ex–? He was gay. So what are gays-lesbians squawking about? Instead of marriage, which is for a man and woman; let these good citizens have civil contracts, ”union”.
Because, though they insist LOVE is what binds two spouses, it isn’t really so. When a truly married couple does not consummate their marriage in the marital act, it becomes grounds for annulment. Husband and wife unite in the marital act; but gays and lesbians have no marital act. They can be partners, but not otherwise married.
Good. Can we move on now to the “less” important “family issues” like health care, job security, and minimum wage as well as issues involving our responsibility to the environment, world peace, and other such mundane stuff.

July 18th, 2006 at 3:38 pmAmerican gay marriage is a good thing

so is abortion good for the same reason
Stem cell reaserach is good to find out what actually went wrong in the american population
