For Democrats, that veto threat could be just what the doctor ordered. In a nutshell, Bush’s 2006 base-baiting, red meat strategy could well backfire when it comes to stem cell research.
I’ll believe a veto when I see it. The Dems should have tried to get some military funding included in the bill so Bush could not veto it lest he look soft on defense. Of course soft on defense is probably better than dumb on defense, which is what we have now.
So, which backwards ass redneck dipshits voted against it?
If any of these people contract anything that can be solve using stem cell research, they should be denied access to the treatment for their votes of nay.
If Bush vetoes this, it could be a political gift to the Dems.
And, if a veto is signed, in two years, when Bush&co are history, one of the first things on a Democratic agenda will be to reverse this ignorant move.
The strategy seeks to insure that a small, motivated minority will go to the polls in sufficient numbers to carry some districts or states in which average voters may be apathetic. It also provides sectarian comfort to any christian fanatic who also has the wherewithall to tamper with voting equipment.
Bush will veto this. It’ll be an election year gift to the religious right. It won’t change anything, but it’ll give the anti-abortion crowd the idea that the Republicans support them.
Great – Ricky Sanitorium voted “Ney”. Guess Ricky doesn’t want to find a cure for diseases. It just keeps getting better for Bob Casey Jr. Everything that Ricky the Rooster does, sends one more voter to Casey.

I love that he (Bush) wont “destroy life to save lives,” in regards to Stem Cells, but then we will kill innocent lives, and send our own troops to their deaths to spread “freedom” and “democracy” in the middle east.
I asked this on a different thread but never got an answer…
Were the Bush twins the result of in vitro,or natural?
I thought I read somewhere that they were, making his stance on stem cells incredibly hypocritical.

Ok, I’ve spent quite a while looking for some kind of substantiation that President Bush at one time pressured his girlfriend to have an abortion. The only person I’ve found that makes this claim in pornographer Larry Flynt.
Is there any source, even slightly more credible than him?
56% of the States (by number)
37% of the Senate
ONLY 33% of the total population of the United States. (Based on the 2000 census population by State. One Senator=one half the popuation; two Senators =all the population.)

I don’t know how the thread got to DUHbya’s fertility but I will offer up the suggestion that no omnipotent being whether God or an Intelligent Designer would be stupid enough to put reproductive organs on such a fool. My position can be proven empirically by the fact that Bush has been President for 5 1/2 years and has yet to demonstrate that he has a pair of balls.

As for his former girlfriend, I have read several sources over the years that provided the information on his former girlfriend, who is remarkably wealthy now. She got some Bush money, but didn’t have to wed the Bush monkey.

How about his ex-boyfriend?
Anthony Berusca (class of ‘70), told The Dallas Morning News that Bush was “deeply conflicted about being gay, even somewhat self-hating.” Berusca is convinced that this conflict led to Bush’s drinking problems, but describes the President as a “gentle, caring lover”. In 1986, the Bush family arranged for George to join Worthy Creations, a church group in El Paso that focuses on converting homosexuals through faith. A year later, Bush claimed to be straight, born again, and engaged to Laura Welch (Kitty Kelly in THE FAMILY wrote that Bush’s twin daughters were not his offspring, but from a donor at a fertility clinic).
Or this:
According to a group of 29 Yale classmates who comprise Gay Ivy Leaguers for Truth, Bush was “known to be at least sexually experimental throughout his time in college.”
People like you wouldn’t care if Bush were an Axe Murderer, as long as he fed your fears of terrorism and crazy liberals. You guys are sick freaks. You’re nothing but a bunch of repressed unstable idiots.
doubt the homosexual stories, please. yale, secret society, ring a bell. why do you think it is so secret? the stories are breaking about their hand-picked politicians that have ‘boy parties’ for blackmail. kay griggs, widow of a military officer, found his diaries and is speaking about this. and has been for long time. if i were pc savvy i would take it off my disc and get it to the computer, somehow there is a way and when i do you all will be the first to see it. her interview is extensive and in 3 parts. this is also a bribery tool for the military.

And Nelson, the Nebraska DINO, votes with the repugs.
Zell Miller could start a party of malcontents, like himself, Lieberman, Nelson and see what mischief they can accomplish.
If you have no affinity for your party, then change parties and become an independent but quit stringing people along.
Thanks for the response, I was beginning to think you didn’t love me anymore.
Actually that was a new experimental teleprompter. Turd Blossom figured that since he had his head so far up his backside he could read it with the contact lens in his navel.
Keep on keepin’ on. We will get them yet and soon!
He may well make a big show of a veto. At this point of his precipitous freefall into history as the biggest mistake for a leader America has ever allowed, he may grasp at any straw to keep himself from splatting at the bottom of his own well of failure and inadequacy.
A veto would be nothing more than preaching to the choir. It will not gain anything for the Bushco nor the Republican Party. The only thing it will accomplish will be to aid and abet his assinine value of self-worth. Any reasonable man would have surrendered long ago but of course of all the things attributed to DUHbya reasonableness has never appeared on the list. The OPEC (oil, pharmecudical, energy and corporatiateprofit) powers behind the throne will keep the dupe there as long as they can bribe congress not to impeach. However, there may be light at the end of the tunnel as as some one once said: “Paybacks can be hell.”

OH NO!! TP, we must have our evening open thread. If you’re too tired at the end of the day to do ThinkFast PM, maybe just label a thing Open Thread and let us use it to vent. Please consider it!
Onward, march, O ye blastocyst-Americans! After you are on ice for 18 years, you get to vote. Tough to hit the ‘Accept’ button with only a few cells to work with, none of which resembles a finger.
Embryonic stem cell research has not only yet to cure a
single human patient, but it has never been tried on humans
because of failures in animal testing. On the other hand, adult
stem cells have already produced 70 cures or treatments for
various conditions including various cancers such as breast
cancer, lymphomas, leukemia, arthritis, heart damage, Parkinsons,
Sickle Cell Anemia and other disorders.
Leading researchers say stem cell research will not likely
yield cures for Alzheimer’s. “Alzheimer’s is a more global
disease, with an effect on numerous kinds of cells,” Steve Stice,
a stem cell researcher at the University of Georgia, told the
Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper. “That makes it much more
difficult for a cell therapy to be effective.” Marilyn Albert, a
Johns Hopkins University researcher, adds, “I just think
everybody feels there are higher priorities for seeking effective
treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and for identifying preventive
strategies.”
The most recent poll on the subject, conducted by
International Communications Research in mid-May, finds 48% of
Americans oppose federal funding of stem cell research that
requires destroying human embryos. Just 39% support such funding
and another 12 percent had no position. The ICR survey found 57%
favored funding only the research avenues that do not harm the
donor. Just 24% favored funding all stem cell research, including
the type that involves destroying human embryos.
I just walked off the Senate floor, where a bipartisan group of lawmakers voted to pass the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, offering hope to millions of Americans. I wish we could celebrate – however, George Bush has indicated he might make this bill the first veto of his Presidency.
After signing numerous bills giving tax breaks to millionaires and giveaways to his friends at oil companies, it is unbelievable that George Bush’s first veto might come on a bill that could save millions of lives. I need your help letting George Bush know this is unacceptable — he must sign the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act. We need to act in the next 24 – 48 hours — every moment is critical.
Tell George Bush to sign the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, by visiting:
Petitioning Bush is a Waste of time and energy. Did he listen to anybody, about anything, ever?
His version of being in touch with the people is sitting on their heads.
Forget it. We’re doomed to a four year delay in any national progressive program … unless in November we get enough seats in Congress to throw off the yoke of his lazy simplistic extremism.

Let me understand. There are still people who simultaneously believe that it’s morally acceptable to torture real, live human beings to maybe get information to save a life but see it as immoral to do stem cell research with human cells to get information that probably will save lives. I hope this vote helps my own DeWine (R-Ohio) get his pink slip this November.

There was an early thread debunking most of the claims for Adult Stem Cell treatments. There are only 9 FDA approved treatments and many did not CURE their disease but allievated the side affects.

July 18th, 2006 at 9:05 pmTanks, kinda like yokel yola, ya??????
July 18th, 2006 at 9:14 pmi just noticed that the regular AM’s don’t say “AM†since monday…

July 18th, 2006 at 9:45 pmOnward, march, O ye blastocyst-Americans! After you are on ice for 18 years, you get to vote. Tough to hit the ‘Accept’ button with only a few cells to work with, none of which resembles a finger.
July 18th, 2006 at 10:08 pmEmbryonic stem cell research has not only yet to cure a
single human patient, but it has never been tried on humans
because of failures in animal testing.

July 18th, 2006 at 10:36 pmemail message from harry reid:

July 18th, 2006 at 10:51 pmpass it on!
July 18th, 2006 at 11:22 pmSo let’s see…all males who DO NOT produce babys with their millions of sperm are murderers…..WTF????????
July 18th, 2006 at 11:45 pmunless in November we get enough seats in Congress…

I wonder how many of those who voted ‘no’ are getting campaign contributions from ‘Big Pharma’?
July 19th, 2006 at 3:40 amLet me understand.

July 19th, 2006 at 9:19 amThere was an early thread debunking most of the claims for Adult Stem Cell treatments. There are only 9 FDA approved treatments and many did not CURE their disease but allievated the side affects.
