Rove recently told the Denver Post that “recent studies†show researchers “have far more promise from adult stem cells than from embryonic stem cells.â€
The Chicago Tribune contacted top stem cell experts who all said Rove’s claim was inaccurate and the White House “could not provide the name of a stem cell researcher who shares Rove’s views on the superior promise of adult stem cells.”
Today on Meet the Press, Tim Russert gave White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten an opportunity to repudiate Rove’s claims. Bolten refused, saying Rove “knows a lot of stuff.” Bolten added, “there are alternatives ways to get to the promise of that embryonic stem cells have.” This view is not shared by stem cell researchers. Watch it:
Transcript:
RUSSERT: Is there any evidence that you are aware of or that the President is aware of that says adult stem cells show far more promise than embryonic.
BOLTEN: Adult stem cells have already demonstrated in the amelioration of disease.
RUSSERT: So you agree with Mr. Rove.
BOLTEN: Like I said, I’m not a scientist.
RUSSERT: I don’t think Karl Rove is either.
BOLTEN: Well, he knows a lot of stuff. The point here is that there are alternatives ways to get to the promise of that embryonic stem cells have. The president with his announcement this week on stem cell policy also announced we are going to put extra effort within our scientific community, at NIH, into pursuing stem cell research that does not involve the destruction of human embryos.

What would Karl know about human eggs? Isn’t that a male-female thing?
July 23rd, 2006 at 1:29 pmBolten: “(Rove) knows a lot of stuff.†- - Uh huh, Karl knows how to avoid indictments.
July 23rd, 2006 at 1:32 pmHe thinks he knows a lot of stuff.
Big difference.
He also thinks Bush is just like Teddy Roosevelt. If he doesn’t know the difference between Barney Fife and Teddy Roosevelt, why should we take his word on anything else?
July 23rd, 2006 at 1:34 pmProponents of the veto also argue that it has only prevented federally-sponsored human embryo stem-cell research, and that privately-sponsored research is still allowed. Note that the admin won’t make this point too loudly, because they don’t want their base to realize that.
However, any posters out there familiar with NIH protocols and rules? I seem to recall a conversation I had with someone who has NIH funding that this kind of thing makes it incredibly difficult for them to even do privately-sponsored research. Essentially, the cells can’t even be in the same room with the research they’re performing for NIH. Anyone know any more?
July 23rd, 2006 at 1:35 pmGood job by Russert on not letting Bolten skate by. I think Bolten looked particularly ineffectual in supporting either the president or Rove on this one. I wish, though, that Russert would have pressed this issue:
If the president thinks that using these embryos for research is “murder,” he should criminalize this of research and arrest/try those scientists engaging in it.
I think this would really show the public what sort of genius scientists are dictating policy in the White House. Let’s take a few steps back into the stone age, while Singapore and Korea leapfrog us in this arena.
July 23rd, 2006 at 1:39 pmWhy does Timmeh only grill the puny idiots in this administration? While it’s highly enjoyable knowing Timmeh kicked this dog down the street, he’s not the alpha male in the pack. I want to see Timmeh kick the alpha male in the nuts. Please….?
July 23rd, 2006 at 1:40 pmIf pressed, Pumpkin Head would probably say that his job is not to refute incorrect statements; rather to air them and allow viewers to discern the truth or recognize foolish statements for what they are.
However, all he really does is publish the incorrect statement yet another time. And so the BS circulates.
July 23rd, 2006 at 1:54 pmTop Five Myths About America are essentially exploded here and Karl knowing a lot of stuff ought to be Number Six. But this was a gem of a post that I found on Craigslist’s “Best Of…”
July 23rd, 2006 at 1:57 pmStopping government funding profoundly hurts development of technology/industry/scientific development. There are too many examples to mention but profit for private companies comes years after the government shoulders the nonprofitable research. A good example is space travel, now years after a totally non-profitable space program we benefit (and companies benefit) from microwaves, Tang, plane design, GPS, food preservation, drug development, etc. And soon, space travel, ? mining, ?relocation on other moons, asteroids, etc. No private company on Earth could have begun to pay for the research into any of this and without government spending very few if any of these technologies would exist, ditto stem cell research - it puts us years behind.
July 23rd, 2006 at 1:59 pmThe anti-science, anti-knowledge administration strikes again. “Embryonic-stem-cell research is promising? We don’t want to know. Global warming a threat? Don’t tell us. Saddam has no WMDs? Come on, gimme some good news here.”
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:01 pmHey, Think Progress, how did you miss Russert asking Bolten about this basic inconsistency:
From firedoglake.
Isn’t that the main question we should be driving through to the right-wingers?!?! Not this crap about Karl Rove?!?!
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:02 pmKarl Rove as usual is a massive liar > adult stem cells show ZERO promise to cure anything!
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:04 pmkudos,
Apologies - I missed your post above - it seems we echoed much the same ideas.
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:09 pmYep. Bolten IS definitely sniffing glue, and Karl too.
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:10 pmWHY DO WE NOT SEE THE PRESS ATTACK THE STUPIDITY OF THIS ADMINISTRATION? We have every sector of this society indicating that the Bush administration is a bunch of incompetent idiots. Look at the list:
Scientists: Stem cell research, global warming, the environment, health care issues, attempts to muzzle administration scientists and bias in appointments to scientific boards.
Economists: The deficits, trade balance,
Conservatives: Ex Sec of Treas, George Will, Buckley, Ex - faith based initiatives director
The Millitary: The latest general’s lament on the cost of going it alone and under-funding security initiatives. The retired generals and the Iraq strategy. The British general heading up Afghanistan and the looming crisis.
Foreign Affairs Experts: Indeed Foreign Affairsjust did a survey of foreign policy experts from both sides of the political spectrum. The conclusion was that the Bush Administration is incompetent.
THE PROBLIM IS WITH THE PRESS. THEY ARE INDEED LAPDOGS. THERE MUST BE AN ORGANIZED EFFORT TO DESTROY THE RIGHT WING MSN WITHIN THIS COUNTRY. THEY ARE CORPORATE SCUM WHO WANT TO SUCK AT THE TEAT OF THE CONSERVATIVES. CALL THEM FOR WHAT THEY ARE. GO AFTER THEM ECONOMICALLY.
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:19 pm#4 & #9. .. . Another point to allowing “private” research rather than government supported research may be the financial rights to anything coming out of that research. If it’s privately developed - it becomes a product to sell for profit, not just a cure for a terrible disease. What are are the odds that it might be available for those who can afford it? If developed via government support, than it’s a government “cure” and availablity doesn’t become a major issue in distribution. Given the bushco track record of taking care of their financial supports of which the pharmaceutical industry is one of the most generous. . . could there be a link?
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:21 pmDrSinker:
In vitro is exactly how the Bush twins got here.
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:23 pmAnyone can do the math:Laura was 36 when she spawned those two.She and Chimp had been trying for atleast 5 yrs. before that.
Josh has probably seen his days of shilling for bush on Sunday talk shows coming to a close.
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:25 pmSouthwest Bob,
That’s worth considering, but I don’t think there was much behind this decision by Bush other than to appease his base.
Privately sponsored research won’t necessarily be on the basis of for-profit. There’s lots of research that goes on at universities that is privately sponsored, with virtually no strings attached other than the topic.
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:28 pmI want to see Timmeh kick the alpha male in the nuts. Please….?

Zooey, the only alfa male in this entire bunch is a rabid dog called Cheney..Right.?….I’m still trying to catch the little weasel bolton and give him a good shave and clean up….. Blessings and Peace.
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:38 pm# 20 unbelievable:
You probably mean you’d just love to SEE a pair of nuts.lol.:O
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:42 pmDrSinker….thanks…for some strange reason I’ve come to distrust every action of this mis-administration!
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:46 pmI saw a recent pic of Bush eating a meal with Putin overseas, and Bush had a bottle of beer by his plate, so it proves he is drinking again and sloshed drunk at the G8 event! Gives new meaning why he looked dazed before gropping Merkel, and then wandering off in a stupor!
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:49 pmYeah, Stuff this Rove. You are nothing but a common criminal.
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:57 pm#24… I agree with your perceptions….
July 23rd, 2006 at 3:09 pmProbably doesn’t take more than a beer to put him right back into the frat-party-boy mentality, sure looks like he’s out of his body much of the time………
also noticed the gentleman to Merkels right (don’t know who he is) looking at his plate in disgust and/or embarrassment……

Post 26 agua > that guy I think was the Italian PM, but anyways he was afraid that Bush might grab his neck next > lol. Bush was drunk during the entire G8 event > his facial expressions and goofy antics proved it!
July 23rd, 2006 at 3:14 pmSW Bob,
I think that’s a perfectly reasonable reaction. There’s not much this admin has done to inspire confidence and trust, is there?
July 23rd, 2006 at 3:19 pmSome of my regular readers may wonder what I look like and perhaps even what some of my non-political pet peeves are. Well, wonder no more.
And, no, I don’t consider my picture to be a flattering one. I chose the worst one I could find for a reason.
July 23rd, 2006 at 3:29 pmRove knows “a lot of stuff” .. for someone with only a HIGH SCHOOL degree.
Also, who is to say that the biological parents of these 400,000 embryos have all CONSENTED to their embryos being adopted. I’m would guess that about 80% of people wouldn’t agree to having a child out there that they don’t know about and having it birthed by a stranger.
July 23rd, 2006 at 3:30 pmI missed the morning MTP, but I like to read comments and then watch the replay tonight.
July 23rd, 2006 at 3:51 pmLi’l Timmy was hard on Bolten? That will be something to see — but then again, he’s usually harder on people who aren’t among the higher ups in the admin. He lets people like Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld skate by with their outrageous comments, only pausing now and then for a brief follow up.
Jurassic,
I knew you were a good guy, but from the picture you’re clearly a HUGE Red Sox fan. Here’s hoping they crush the Mariners this afternoon.
July 23rd, 2006 at 3:52 pm#24
July 23rd, 2006 at 3:56 pmI too saw that picture but I couldn’t enlarge it to see the name on the bottle. Rumors have been flying for a long time that he hits the bottle regularly - he never did complete any 12-step program or sought counseling - he just quit cold turkey - so he has done nothing to combat the weaknesses that drove him in the first place.
His behavior, however, is stereotypical drunk, and when that is added to his Great Gatsby persona and upbringing, we have all the makings of a loser of huge proportions….and he’s all ours!
Jeeez, I hope we all survive through 2008.
Juan Cole writes today:
July 23rd, 2006 at 4:04 pmIsraeli planning had to have been done in conjunction with Donald Rumsfeld at the US Department of Defense. The US Department of Defense is committed to rapidly re-arming Israel and providing it precision laser-guided weaponry,This from the SF Chronicle:
Israel set war plan more than a year ago
Strategy was put in motion as Hezbollah began gaining military strength in Lebanon
And this from Reuters:
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli officials believe they have approval from the United States to keep up attacks on Hizbollah guerrillas in Lebanon for at least another week, an Israeli newspaper said on Sunday.
Sorry that last one was on the wrong topic.

July 23rd, 2006 at 4:42 pm` J.pork, right on! Can we just thru the melodramatic intro and call a phoney a bullshit artist?
Many of these politi-con artists use the word “stuff” frequently.
July 23rd, 2006 at 4:47 pmIn my observation, the word “stuff” is used when there is confusion as to what exactly in kind or quantity there exists of whatever someone is trying to describe. Or sell.
As is the case in this administration, or a yard sale, a lot of junk.
This is just another example of a now their administration official trying to justify an action which has no justification. There is no slippery slope. There is no moral dilemma. This issue is actually pretty clean-cut. If the president is trying to say that all life is sacred than every woman should be placed in bed rest after sex. It is a fact that many fertilized eggs do not implant in the uterus or are spontaneously aborted. Under the president’s definition this would be murder. Therefore, every fertilized egg needs to be saved. Somewhere between four to eight weeks of bed rest would be required to try to save every single fertilized egg. This is crazy! But this is the president’s logic on this point.
The president is also saying that discarding an embryo is okay but doing research on the same embryo is not okay. Again, this is not logical.
Finally, the administration has been trumpeting the value of adult stem cells. The data on adult stem cells is not clear. That South Korean scientist who has been discredited because he forged his data, published the original article which stated that adult stem cells could be manipulated into becoming any cell in the body. Once it was clear that his data with falsified I’m unaware of any one who is published credible data suggesting that adult stem cells have the same potential as embryonic stem cells.
The problem here is not whether adult stem cells are adequate. The problem is the stifling of scientific research for political gain.
July 23rd, 2006 at 4:52 pmBolten looked SO uncomfortable. He was squirming avoided looking T. Russert in the eye when he answered question! Tim Russert looked like Edward Scissorhands, slicing and dicing Bolten this am!! Loved It!

Israeli missile strike killed seven members of a Palestinian family picnicking on a Gaza beach, which prompted Hamas to end its 16-month-old informal ceasefire with Israel. Hamas has repeatedly pointed to the Gaza beach incident as one of the central events that prompted its cross-border raid. Hamas also points to the capture of some of its leaders by Israel as the provocation for its raid.
July 23rd, 2006 at 5:09 pmJosh Bolten, just another tool for this administration.
July 23rd, 2006 at 5:11 pmOk everyone: We can stop debating stem cell research and global warming.
Karl Rove and Michael Crichton have spoken.
Let’s all bow to their omniscience.
Let’s forget about those pesky things called scientific research, scientific concensus, and technologic advancement.
Things were so much easier when we lived in caves -which is why the US is graciously bombing Afghanistan and Iraq back to the stone age and so is Israel doing to Lebanon. It is actually a favor.
July 23rd, 2006 at 5:18 pm#42 tc
thanks for reminding us all of that… it seems forgotten to most, but, i will never forget that young girl crying as she looked on where her family *used* to be until george bush’s bombs killed them…
but, no one talks about it anymore. the media, and apparently most seemingly progressive blogs, are pawns of the israel lobby, the clintonista and bush crime families. it is a truly pathetic state of affairs…
July 23rd, 2006 at 5:20 pmwhat can we learn from this thread. which is the most important, in the long run:
a) that karl rove lied;
b) that bolten wouldn’t admit rove lied; or
c) the media concentrates on a) and b) while ignoring other more significant world-wide issues?
it seems to me that a) and b) are constants of the universe, similar to the speed of light in a vaccum. the crime family cannot open their mouths without lying. we all know that.
so, i vote for c… and, again, the shiney object is presented to all, and all get mesmerized!
next sunday: rinse and repeat.

July 23rd, 2006 at 5:32 pmUntil our media is no longer controlled by big business and republicans in washington, they will continue to control the message. Scary thought.
What karl rove knows he learned in high school. He still thinks and acts like he’s in high school. As they say, what goes around comes around.
July 23rd, 2006 at 7:06 pmYesterday we learned about the animal called a Republican with an anus on both ends. Today we learned about the Boltons, John and Josh. Are the two related or they the results of a lobotomy and a hemorrhoidectomy?
July 23rd, 2006 at 7:37 pmI think they are the actual results of the disgraced S. Korean cloning researcher.
July 23rd, 2006 at 7:56 pmBolton the wanna be diplomat got a stray woolly mammoth hair into his tube, and the chief of staff got one of the good doctors toenail clippings mixed in, so that he makes it all up as he stumbles along………….
On post #42 please add “are” between “or” and “they” in the second sentense.
I figured out why a Republican never has an (or is it a) hemorrhoidectomy–they can’t spell the damn thing. They are all sore asses so how can the doctors diagnose a specific problem? They can’t help the doctor locate the problem because they don’t know up from down and with the problem on both ends the doctor has no clue. Come on trolls, let’s have a little fun this evening.
July 23rd, 2006 at 7:59 pmWow! good job Russert. Josh Bolten isn’t nearly as smart as we were all led to believe. Not too many smart asses would try and pull that kind of shit on national television. Just a really dumb guy, who was backed into a corner! I think that the Rethugs have really stepped into a big ole pile of elephant dung this time. Stem Cell may be their downfall!
July 23rd, 2006 at 8:25 pmThis is precisely the problem with this White House. Instead of talking to scientists about Global Warming and stem cells, they ask Karl Rove. Instead of talking to the military about the wisdom of attacking Iraq or Iran, they ask Karl Rove. Instead of talking to the CIA and the State Department about Iraq reconstruction, they ask Karl Rove. Instead of talking to the parties in the Mid East conflict, they talk to Karl Rove.
Garbage in…Garbage out.
July 23rd, 2006 at 8:29 pmWhen your part of the chimp’s administraion you get a license to lie. Truth no longer graces our white house or those who work on its behalf.
July 23rd, 2006 at 8:30 pmThis weasel was in the room when Uncle Dick ordered Flight 93 shot down. To bad Timmeh didn’t ask him about that. That would have provoked some realgood squirming.
July 23rd, 2006 at 9:48 pmLeeme See Karl went to 6 universities and graduated from none, a “failed” Chicken Hawk Academic. Karl also headed the NCR [college republicans] Karl was not a scientist in any form.
What was that Fux news saying..
oh Yeah.
You know, factually, that there is a whole school of thought on this subject and the fact is everyone knows it, shouldn’t you know, and everyone knows this, shouldn’t the Political operatives just shutup on this issue?
July 23rd, 2006 at 9:57 pmBush’s 2006 base-baiting, red meat strategy could well backfire when it comes to stem cell research. Unlike other aspects of the “fags, flags and fetuses” program contained in the Republicans’ so called “American Values Agenda,” stem cell research bans don’t enjoy much support among either the conservative chattering classes or Americans overall.
For more on why Bush’s veto could be just what the doctor ordered for Democrats, see:
July 23rd, 2006 at 9:58 pm“Bush Stem Cell Veto Threat is Dems’ Opportunity.”
Follow the GOP “American Values Agenda” if you value death-debt-corruption.
July 23rd, 2006 at 10:42 pmPathetic and deceitful. Please explain to me how anyone can still support this administration.
July 23rd, 2006 at 10:44 pmThe rove administration knows one thing for sure. The American public is dumber than a box of ax handles. Why do you think these goons prevent our masses from gaining access to better educational opportunities? The dumber the better for them and the Ralph Reeds of the world. We are possibly two generations away from a little enlightenment or one away from total bloody chaos…Mark it!!!! If this country can elect a moron, it will very likely elect a madman.

July 24th, 2006 at 7:14 amThats just one more view “not shared” by a great many persons because of the White Houses ineptitude, yet another example of shoot from the lip to tamp down any all all opposing view points instead fo embracing an celebrating the divergent American mossaic?

July 24th, 2006 at 11:25 amBush and Laura not having babies for five years? Hmmmmmmm
July 24th, 2006 at 11:35 amBirth control pulls don’t allow fertilized eggs to implant. Do ya think Bush was wearing rubbers for five years?
Hmmm, those fertilized eggs were ok to kill?
Yup. As the this thread demonstrates, the debate around using stem cells, which would otherwise be discarded, for live saving research is not even close. Even many pro-lifer’s recognize that it is pro-life to use them stem cells for life-saving research rather than to waste them in the trash.
The best the “I am always” right’ers can do is throw out a lot of typical conservative FUD on the issue by arguing, among others:
1. There are enough embryonic stem cells already. Wrong. Existing government-approved lines are old and stale, and seriously hampering research.
2. Adult stem cells are as good as embryonic stem cells. Wrong again. And not according to the majority of stem cell scientists, who rightly observe that embryonic stem cells have unique properties and hold by far the greatest promise for life-saving cures.
3. Private research is sufficient. Wrong again. More government funding and support is needed to really advance this science. And current restrictions around existing government spending require that when universities conduct embryonic stem cell research not using the official old stale cell lines, they need to build whole new labs and use all new equipment which are “clean” from any government funding. This places a huge drag on research.
4. The government is not imposing a religious value. Really? It’s just another coincidence that the religious right to which Bush panders so, wants to keep suppressing this? How many times do the Bush Republicans have to keep assuring us that they are not attempting to impose their religious values through our government? Constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage? Pushing for prayer in schools? No birth control taught in schools? Fighting contraception in third world nations that desperately need it? Saving us from the evils of gambling (but strangely just on the Internet, not in Vegas)? No abortion option? Saving the world on a “crusade” in the Middle East? Saving the world from the “Axis of Evil” (which by the way are all more of a threat since the Bush Republicans branded them morally “evil”). Come on. This President is obviously on what he thinks is a mission ordained by the Christian God and the Bush Republicans are happy to jump on the bandwagon to max out voter support from the religious right.
5. The use of embryonic stem cells due to be discarded for research is the beginning of a “slippery slope” to broader uses that are immoral. The slippery slope argument can always be made. We have to balance what’s here and now.
6. Lots of other silly, stretched analogies. One poster went so far as to claim nonsensically: “The intent to create and use humans as a commodity for other humans lowers our value of life. My objection, and I believe that of President Bush is toward the intent of the use. For example, people may die in car crashes, but we don’t design cars to deliberately kill people as a means of population control. Even IF population control could be argued by some top scientists to be in our best interests.” A+ for creativity - and I wonder if the rest of us can be this creative. Really. Let’s please stick to the facts and results before us.
Real living human being are dying and suffering who could be saved by this promising research, and these needed embryonic stem cells which are being tossed (1) are tiny little thoughtless cells not even close to people and (2) are gone either way. The Democrats, the American public, Nancy Reagan, Orin Hatch and a lot of Republicans recognize this. Once again, the majority of the Bush Republicans are “out there.†The stem cell debate is just another failure in a long line of them by our currently lacking government.
July 24th, 2006 at 12:09 pm“Real living human being are dying and suffering who could be saved by this promising research”…
July 24th, 2006 at 12:24 pmBush isn’t the “Help President”… he’s the “War President”.
Remember that the next time you’re looking for leadership.
HEART FAILURE!
If anyone in my family suffers from untreatable heart failure, I’m taking them to Bangkok for an adult stem cell treatment.
Don Ho, the Hawaiian crooner couldn’t walk across the room last November. In December he was treated with stem cells from his blood and resumed his 1.5 hour show January 22, 2006. See http://www.vescell.com
Search http://www.clinicaltrials.gov for “adult stem cell treatments” and read the 1,075. Search for “embryonic stem cell treatments” and read about two embryo manipulations studies.
Visit http://www.stemcellrearch.org for a list of 72 diseases treated by adult stem cells.
There is no proof-of-concept yet that embryonic stem cells will do anything for anyone.
Embryonic stem cell research has continued unabated world wide with hundreds of millions of dollars for eight years and it has not resulted in one treatment for anyone, anywhere and there is no proof it ever will. You would think there would be at least a proof-of-concept.
Love to all,
July 24th, 2006 at 3:04 pmKarl Rove MAKES UP a lot of stuff. Lies a whole bunch too. Yup, he’s one we should turn to for factual information. Tell it to a country that doesn’t know better.
July 24th, 2006 at 5:47 pmAnyone else notice the fact that he misused the word “ameliorate” here? You can ameliorate a situation, but diseases need cures. It must be his favorite 50-cent word, because if you saw the whole interview, you remember he used that word 4 times in a half-hour interview. Idiot.
July 27th, 2006 at 3:33 pm[…] Snow, echoing Karl Rove, added that “adult and blood cord stem cells” have “demonstrated far more promise” than embryonic stem cells. Watch it: var flvsnowstemcell320240 = new SWFObject(’/wp-content/plugins/flvplayer.swf?file=http://images1.americanprogress.org/il80web20037/ThinkProgress/flv/2006/10/snowstemcell.320.240.flv&autoStart=false’, ‘em-flvsnowstemcell320240′, ‘320′, ‘260′, ‘6′, ‘#ffffff’); flvsnowstemcell320240.addParam(’quality’, ‘high’); flvsnowstemcell320240.addParam(’wmode’, ‘transparent’); flvsnowstemcell320240.write(’flvsnowstemcell320240′); […]
October 31st, 2006 at 1:27 pmThere’s more embryonic stem cell research going on in the USA than anywhere else. It us privately funded not government funded.
November 22nd, 2006 at 3:45 amAdult stem cell research is privately and government funded in the US. And is quite robust thank you very much.
The adult stem cell technology to do the above mentioned human trials was developed in the USA by a USA company.
The human trials are being conducted in the UK and elsewhere because it is much less costly to do it in the UK than the US because of lawyers and government oversight and Institutional Review Boards that are afraid of getting sued. All of which are relaxed in the UK compared to the US.
Many people think that an embryo is a human person.
Many of them come to this conclusion logically not through faith or emotion.
To kill human beings [embryos] in order to do research on them would therefore be illicit.
Not too many smart asses would try and pull that kind of shit on national television. Just a really dumb guy, who was backed into a corner!
