Stem cell research described as “killing” embryos.

No, not by President Bush — by the Associated Press.

Of course. The AP needs good selling points. Nothing perks up human interest like seeing “killing” in a title. I mean, look at all the coverage of those murderers…

  2. Joe Sixpack says:

Sounds like the Associated Press has become the fifth column for the American Taliban.

    Did you see d r i f t g l a s s? Apparently, Lincoln Davis’ speech about weeding out legislative adulterers was satire… I couldn’t tell.

    Bush Loves Embryos, Hates People?

President George W. Bush has vetoed federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, claiming he defends sanctity of embryos frozen lives, but at the same time he promotes warfare killing children, women, and men?

Dubya is against the abortion of unwanted feuses too, while like Adolf Hitler before him, he wants children to grow-up to become soldiers to die as cannon fodder!

Conquests to grab underground pools of crude oil are Bush’s main mission, as president of the United States, and maximizes profits for Military-Industrial-Complex!

The occupation of Iraq has degenerated into civil war, as the population breaks asunder into tribal religious groups, and fanatic assassins slaughter civilians daily!

As Bush’s Israeli pal PM Olmert blasts Lebanon into rubble, to proclaim Israel’s military dominance over its neighbors, as hundreds of Lebanese are liquidated!

Why do Senators, and Representatives, basically do nothing to stop the Bush Regime, and defend Israel?

The neocon slant of the Associted Press is legendary.

The best lie the neocons foisted on the American people (excluding 9/11, of course) is the myth of the ‘liberal media’.

  6. Ch Ace Hummingbird says:

Like being frozen blastocyst in the dark recesses of a icy artificial environment is such a great way to live..

  7. Jay Randal says:

NOTE: my post 4 has a spelling error > feuses is fetuses > typo error!

  8. Al Gore says:

A close family friend was diagnose with terminal bone cancer 4 years ago. Two years ago he started received embryonic stem cell treatment from a private company that did research and treatment (he has tons of money). Today he is cancer free and expected to live an other ten years or more (he is 75 years old right now). He is also in a “support” group with others who have had stem cell cures. The community is small right now, but growing. It would have been nice to get some fed funding for research and treatment.

I hope one of the embryo’s that has been adopted grows up to need stem cell treatment to live.

  9. Jason says:

This is really a question of semantics. The embryo itself is no longer, but it’s cell line lives on. Eventually the entire line will be unusable and destroyed. So the embryos will all be eventually “killed” as they would be killed when they are destroyed by fertility clinics. But, they help people along the way.

I mean, a fetus is killed when it is aborted, is it not? If you say no, you are fooling yourself.

  10. Jason says:

I hope Al Gore gets trapped in a glacier and needs global warmingto save him.

  11. Willy says:

Why all the concern for saving embryos when the U.S. kills so many Iraqis, Lebanese (by proxy), and other middle easterners. I don’t understand the distinction.

  12. Daniel DiRito says:

In an interview with Larry King before the 2004 presidential election, George Bush called stem cell research “Take life, destroy life”. See the following quote from that interview.

    G. BUSH: That’s the big debate, Larry, and this country has got to be very careful on destroying life to save life. And it’s a debate that needs to move forward in a very careful way. And I listen very carefully to ethicists who impressed me about being cautious and respecting human life, I guess, is the best way to put it. And that’s one issue, embryonic stem cell.

    G. BUSH: These are embryos that represent life and the fundamental question, as a society, is: Does society continue to take life, destroy life?

  13. Zimzone says:

    Unfortunately, Bush is an embryo.
Snorting coke & drinking ’till dawn reduces one’s brain
cells to that of an embryo.
Yes, we still want to save him, but that’s because we
believe in life; not protecting embryo’s for an upcoming
    war.
Bush had mentally retarded people executed in Texas.
How does that equate with saving stem cells that are
going to be destroyed anyway? The reason they exist
is so barren Neocon women can have litters of babies
and watch Bill O’Lielly nightly on Fux news, and raise
them to always vote for the money, not the ideas.
Save an Embryo! When it turns 18, send it to death!

  14. Amazed says:

What else does anyone expect from an anti-science president with an anti-science administration propped up by a submissive pro-Bush, right wing biased media?

  15. thots says:

so is bush and co going to adopt all these cells build them their own little bitty room and then send them to college? Has anyone ask this dummy who is going to foster these cells?

  16. WaltTheMan says:

Blast cysts are actually pre-embryos with genetic material surrounding a mass of stem cells. After a blast cyst implants itself on the uterine wall, the genetic message is transferred and the stem cells cease their existance as primeval life.

  17. Marie says:

Is there someone new at the head of AP?
This is not the first time they have slanted their news toward the Bush line. At one time, they were trustworthy.

  18. Zooey says:

    Geez…mark AP off the list.

  19. comsympinko says:

As a genetic engineer and fervent supporter of stem cell research, there’s no getting around the fact that a blastocyst picked apart for its cells is no longer viable. It is not, however, even close to embryo stage when frozen and is most certainly not alive (100-150 cells). The semantics on this issue are totally screwed up, and a responsible, scientific reading would go something like this:

Blastocysts used for stem cell research are no longer viable following cell harvest.

  20. eblair says:

when will people stop killing sperm?

and the menstrual cycle is an act of oocidal rage

  21. piltdown says:

I personally think that the 400,000 “snowflake babies” should be made adoptable by same-sex parents. Or the Military. Yeah! That’s it. 400,000 wards of the state, born to be soldiers. We’ll save their lives, so they can take other peoples.

  22. piltdown says:

Oh! And don’t forget to outlaw in-vitro fertilization. MANY MANY more blastocysts are destroyed in the process than children are born. So, that should be illegal too, right?
