Thanks for the positive feedback. I’ve come to realize over the past 6 long, miserable years (and actually learned during the Reagan-Bush years) that the only thing that will shut these wingnuts up is to call them, directly, on their bullshit. They seem to believe (and Rush is why) that we Americans who disagree with them are all 90lb. weaklings, whose principles will prevent them from ever fighting back. We all need to show them how wrong they are, to stand up right in their faces, call them liars and cowards, and shame them back into the dark backwaters of our culture where they belong. Unlike them, I do not believe they should be denied their right to exist or to speak, as they would have done with us. I do believe, however, that they should be shamed by informed people into holding their acid tongues until they’ve gathered enough fact to be fit to comment on anything. Shame, like fear and greed, is one of the things that motivates them, something they understand, and I, for one, will not hesitate to shame these bastards, for they are indeed shameful. Anyone who will publicly assert fantasy as fact, while utterly denying the facts put before them is not fit to participate in a Fire Department Pancake Breakfast, let alone the discussion of how best to live up to American principles. Join me in whacking a troll every chance you get, ’cause we’re sure as hell not going to convince them of anything they don’t want to believe.

We will continue to interrupt Congress, as they continue to fund an illegal and immoral war. Wake up America! Now even well-known conservatives are acknowledging that Iraq is a lost cause.

But, the Iraqi Parlament was upset about the embassy stiffing the fasters and many of them requested that the fasters come to Jordan next week when the Parlament is coming back from a meeting in Cairo and break bread with them and share ideas and see the 28 point plan that the Iraqi Parlament has to remove the US troops as soon as possible. This is a large and broad spectra group from Parlament that wishes to bring the violence and the fast to a close. Several of the fasters will go, and will break fast with the Parlament to work for agreement. So look for news of this action, make sure your local media reports on what happens duing this next week and when the women bring information back to the American People. how small-minded of you to miss the point entirely. and your logic here is staggeringly misguided. ms benjamin’s protest isn’t in defense of prohibitive cultures where she would have no rights, it’s in defense of our own culture, where fear-manipulated subservient fools like yourself are only too happy to forfeit your rights, because you believe, as trail-mix states above, that terrorists are going to start “beheading Americans in Times Square”.

well, first off, if we really were under that threat, homeland security wouldn’t have cut new york’s terror funding. more importantly, if you are really that addled with fear, then you are one sad, easily-manipulated american. you may be fixated on what the terrorists believe, but i’m fixated on what WE believe. we are losing the ideological battle, mostly because of fools like yourself.

the only way we win is to strengthen and reinforce our freedoms and our way of life. the administration says, “they hate us for our freedoms,” which would seem to suggest that we need to more boldly pronounce our belief in those freedoms, not hide them away. and certainly not start spying on americans, tapping phones, mining internet data, and condemning people for exercising their rights of speech and assembly.

how do we win if people aren’t free to protest? how do we win if people’s rights of free speech and assembly are quashed? how do we win if we compromise our freedom and our rights?

the idea that “the terrorists” are horrible, despicable people is well-worn, but i’m afraid i just can’t accept that defeating them means taking a step in their direction, ideologically.

no, the opposite is true. we need to be MORE egalitarian, MORE defiant in the face of the political cowardice of our leaders, MORE willing to stand up and say we don’t want our government committing atrocities in our name. in short, we need to show our government how good americans are supposed to act — with outrage that our good reputation is being destroyed by our government’s shameful behavior for the last 60 years (and more). because, quite frankly, they’ve forgotten how good americans are supposed to act. empire is not democracy.

there is no way we defeat terrorists by becoming more like them.
