Schumer calls Bolton filibuster “unlikely.”

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) “supported an effort last year to block Mr. Bolton’s nomination from gaining a full Senate vote, but he confirmed that he is considering changing his position,” the New York Sun reports.

  3. Jason M. Hendler says:

    Yeeeesssssssssssssss!

Nobel Prize nominee Bolton will be approved by the Senate, because he has done an excellent job on Iran’s nuclear problem, and calling the UN on its corruption.

  4. Jay Randal says:

Jason > fascists like Bolton never get nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, but whatever makes you slap happy > lol.

  5. Mary Poplins says:

The only one that is corrupt is old Bushies and his Admin.

The Dems need to filbuster John Bolton. The vote is in September. We got time.

  7. Solitaire says:

Bolton is a dolt, and his results have been nil. He’s part of the problem and will never be part of a cure. So Schumer thinks he can survive re-election when his time comes because the people won’t remember his collaboration with the enemy? Wanna bet?

We are in this mess all over the world because of our incompetent GOP leadership. If he wants to be part of the GOP, he can go to hell with them too.

  8. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #4, Jay,

From the context, you clearly have no idea what fascist, communist, capitalist, socialist or any other political classification means.

    I refer you to:

Today’s Isms, 11th Edition, by Ebenstein, Ebenstein and Fogelman

Read through that, then try again.

  9. Democratic Soldier says:

#3 – You’re probably right about Bolton getting the nomination, but you’re wrong about the reason. He’s a whore for the Bush Administration, that’s the only reason he’s going to get the vote by all the “Yes, Sir! Three bags full, sir!” docile and nutered Republicans.

If the man had ethical standards, he’d do somthing about the rampant culture of corruption festering in the current Administration. Too bad he wont do it.

  10. Jason M. Hendler says:

Ah progressives. Always first to abandon their party members whenever they fail you just once. You must have been thrilled by that 400+ to 8 vote in the House in support of Israel. You just don’t get that there isn’t a dime’s width of difference between Reps and Dems when it comes to security issues.

  11. Jana Lane says:

What has John Bolton accomplished in the UN that would cause anyone to rupport his nomination? Any Democrats who vote for him must answer that question first. If they don’t then how they any better than Republicans? I am a ?Democrat and I hate to ask that question, but I think it’s necessary.

  12. Jay Randal says:

Post 5 Mary > tell that to Sen. Schumer, but be aware if you call him, he has a bad temper and is known to call Dems who disagree with him puny dumb people > he should retire from the Senate this year, but like Lieberman he wants to stay in the Senate forever!

  13. Jebus loves me says:

Hmm…I wonder how much AIPAC (the jewish lobby) contributed to Schmer’s campaign, so that he would support Bolton.

wait a minute, Chuck Schumer is AIPAC

  14. Zimzone says:

Bulldog Bolton should be let out on the streets of Baghdad.
Let’s see how tough he is with cross hairs on his forehead.
His Porn Star moustache is soooo ’70’s, but still ranges ahead
of his feeble attempts to be an Ambassador. In fact, the only
part John gets about Ambassador is ASS. He does that quite well.
    Nobel Prize, indeed.
Jason, what did you eat for breakfast? You should really think about
changing you diet; it’s making you delusional.

  15. PLC (PatrioticLiberalChristian) says:

Bolton, who has expressed his hatred of the UN, cannot effectively bring a spirit of reform to that organization. Who in the UN would listen to a person who has clearly stated that the UN should be destroyed? It would be like a neighbor telling you he thought your house should be blown up, then trying to tell you how to improve the looks of your front lawn. Friends, people who are respectful and invested in you, are the best sources of change. Bolton will never been a friend to or of the UN.

  16. Jay Randal says:

Jason > lol go study the word FASCISM > it applies to the Bush Regime membership!

    my gawd, this is disgusting…

  18. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #1, Jana,

Bolton just got the UN Security Council to pass a resolution demanding Iran end uranium processing or face the possibility of sanctions. So much for those who said he couldn’t build world consensus.

  19. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #17, katy,

How much do you really care about an issue if you aren’t willing to email each of the few remaining Democrats elected to positions in the federal government?

I have zero patience for anyone, and I mean anyone, who dares to defend bush’s agenda. This a fight for our very existence. The powder keg that is the middle east, in bush’s world it’s only a matter of time before that match is lit. I have no doubt. And what does that mean? I don’t know. But I do suppose that in order to affect any change, we must have total destruction of what is now. I do hold hope that those that are aware of it will somehow survive this utter catastrophe.

After all, hasn’t the repukes’ talking point been you can’t trust Democrats with the security of our country?

I wonder if e-mail is useful. I e-mailed my Senators (OH) in opposition to the “prohibition of gay marriage amendment”. I got back form letters that sounded more like I wrote to support these Senators in their backing the amendment. Makes me wonder if I got counted as a supporter also.

A mosquito could have gotten the UN to agree to something it already agreed to. If that’s his biggest accomplishment, we have proof that he not competent in the postion.

  26. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #23, Amy,

You are correct that the rhetoric is different, but the votes of Dems don’t match their rhetoric, which is why the Republicans keep putting these resolutions up for a vote, so that Dems can’t talk out of both sides of their mouths. Although John Kerry keeps saying that he was wrong to vote for these military engagements, yet keeps voting for him. Stunning how liberals let him get away with it.

  27. Jay Randal says:

Post 23 > Jason wants us to give up altogether and NOT vote this November > just one of Karl Rove’s usual tricks!

  28. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #25, Cheryl,

It is for that effort he was nominated for the Nobel Prize. Bringing Russia, China and France into that fold was no easy task.

  29. madashell says:

My experience with emailing politicians…I wrote Hillary about her voting record, and got the response that she cannot anwer me because I am not one of her constituents. Fine, but her votes affect ME!

Senator Maria Cantwell I emailed about her confirmation vote for Alito, and got an email that did NOT address my original question.

Senator Patty Murry and Congressman Norm Dicks, are the ONLY two of my reps who had actually addressed my concerns. I have real respect for both of them – they both voted NO on the war.

  30. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #27, Jay,

No, I want you all to vote and STILL LOSE, so that I may slather the moment all over.

  31. Jason M. Hendler says:

  32. Jay Randal says:

  33. Mary Poplins says:

The Dems will take over both houses and you Jason can cry in your beer.

  34. PLC (PatrioticLiberalChristian) says:

Below is a brief description of the process involved in selecting the Peace Prize Winners.

September – Nomination forms are sent out. The Nobel Committee sends out invitation letters containing confidential forms to persons who are qualified to nominate – members of national assemblies, governments, and international courts of law; university chancellors, professors of social science, history, philosophy, law and theology; leaders of peace research institutes and institutes of foreign affairs; previous years’ Peace Prize Winners, board members of organizations that have received the Nobel Peace Prize; present and past members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee and former advisers of the Norwegian Nobel Institute.

February – Deadline for submission. The Committee bases its assessment on nominations that must be postmarked no later than 1 February each year. Later nominations are included in the following year’s discussions. In recent years, the Committee has received well over 140 different nominations for the Peace Prize. The numbers of nominating letters are much higher, since many are for the same candidates.

March-May – Short list. The Committee assesses the candidates’ work and prepares a short list.

So, Jason, some right wing think tank somewhere dropped Bolton’s name in along with 139 other names, the Committee checked out his work, and he didn’t win the Nobel Prize. I’m not impressed by this or, more importantly, your continued use of this as justification for Bolton.

  35. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #33, Mary Popoff,

Not a chance – Karl Rove is on the job. Busby lost, Lamont will lose the primary, and Dems will lose in November – as I have spoken, so shall it be ….

Wow, so when is the Book of Jason going to be added to the King James? Jason, when november comes, please consult your local suicide crisis line, and try to stay away from sharp objects, high bridges, and running cars in enclosed spaces.

    Best of luck

  37. Mary Poplins says:

Jason Handoff We will see in November you are totally, totally wrong about that the Dems will win big, big big.

  39. madashell says:

    Busby lost LIAR

Bradblog reports that Attorney Paul Lehto will file a contest of the special election held to replace indicted Duke Cunningham. Lehto plans a press conference at 10:30 Pacific time in San Diego to talk about the lawsuit.

This is an important step towards election transparency, a goal that serves voters of all idealogies. Restoring trust in our election system is critical to our democracy’s health.

DECERTIFIED MACHINES USED IN BUSBY/BILBRAY ELECTION

  40. Inkadinkadont says:

Ah, so Congress was for Bolton before they were against him before they were for him. Is that it? Because keeping a screw-up at the UN, knowing he’s a complete screw-up, is a magical win-win for Congress and our international relations?

Are there any democrats in Congress anyone can trust? I mean, we already know we can’t trust any republicans in Congress, but I’m already feeling hard pressed to see a reason to go vote in the upcoming elections, and the democrats continue to not show me a reason why I should.

  41. Retired Republican Soldier says:

Bradblog also reports more than 25 uh 20 uh 10 uh 6 uh ONE oh yes ONE indictment being readied in the Plame (whom is a super secret CIA spy) case. it is also reported that many progressives are contmeplateing immigration to Canada when they lose another midterm election.

  42. Mary Poplins says:

#40 The only Dem I can trust is My Senator from Wisconsin Russ Feingold. I am so proud he is from my senator.

#39 How could these people get away with taking these machine home with them?

Dream on RPS. From one former soldier to another, your shit is weak, my man.

Hey, what’s your take on all the side shows in Lebanon and today’s news that the Administration’s is mulling over allowing the morning after pill to be sold over the counter? I mean, think that will keep us from noticing the surging price of oil here at home and not noticing that the Iraq and Afganistan wars are both going to hell in a hand basket?

I don’t think so, myself. I really think the Repugnican smoke and mirrors will disappear by November. Hell, it might be Karl Rove heading up to Canada to try and avoid a Democratic congress going after his pasty white ass.

  44. madashell says:

    40. I realize your frustration – truly I do – but NOT voting will only make matters worse. we must vote the lesser of two “evils”. At least with the dem, you have a better shot of having your voice heard.

and when that’s said and done, then we have to take the FIGHT to our own communities…I would so love to belong to the GREEN party!

  45. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #44, madashell,

You should work for Raum Emmanuel. He uses just that reasoning to foist pseudo progressives on the Democrats, so that they can continue with conservative foreign policy should they ever regain power. Your only hope is to start your own party.

  46. Retired Republican Soldier says:

Joe, every time the “progressives” lose, all they talk about is leaving for Canada. If it were up to me I would offer an exchange program with Canada that would swap one Progressive for one Conservative. I doubt I would have trouble finding takers on that side of the border, but it seems the progressives here talk a good game but peter out in the follow through (Talk about shit being weak). And I can’t imagine how the Democrats and Progressives think they can win in November (with all the counting machines aligned with those hated Conservatives). If the “Progressives” want to sway some voters towards their agenda they better start explaining how they would be better for America, because I got to tell you I haven’t seen too many people embracing the weakly (weekly) talking points coming out of the DNC. Actually I hear they are very popular over at Comedy Central and Late Night TV, not exactly the best place to sell your agenda to America.

  47. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #46, RRS,

You succinctly described the progressive movement – I guess they will have to wait for the yearlyKermit convention to bolster themselves up again.

  48. KingCranky says:

Jason, you ought to try concepts like “logic” and “abstract thinking”, really, they won’t hurt you no matter how much Karl Rove may tell you otherwise

In fact, Karl Rove’s doing SUCH a bangup job since not being indicted that the GOP and it’s various officeholders are distancing themselves from W and the Iraq occupation

Wasn’t Rove supposed to right the listing USS GOP after not being indicted, seeing as how he could focus all his attention on making his rapidly-growing number of critics rue the day they said anything bad about Rove?

Now W’s got the GOP base tearing into itself, leading into an election with a public overwhelmingly convinced this country is on the wrong track

And that’s before there’s any asking of the public if they’d approve military actions against Iran and Syria, in addition to being bogged down in Iraq while watching Afghanistan slide back towards Taliban rule at the same time

Rove’s alleged “genius” is showing itself to be pretty well useless with all the current legal problems and ethical scandals now breaking against the GOP at the state and national levels

And even worse for Rove, he avoided indictment for outing Valerie Plame, but he’s a good buddy of Jack Abramoff, especially as how Rove’s main assistant, Susan Ralston, used to be Abramoff’s assistant

And all this is before we can even measure the Administration’s next rescue & relief operations courtesy of the next big Hurricane to hit anywhere on the US Coast, an atmospheric event not likely to be intimidated by the likes of Karl Rove, but if Katrina rebuilding is any accurate indicator, then W and Rove will once again go for the style over the substance

“Stay The Course” as a policy when the overwhelming majority of the US public think we’re going in the wrong direction means Rove’s “National Security” electoral strategy is officially dead & buried in terms of cost-free victories

Face it, even Diebold ain’t saving the GOP come November, and things are only going to get worse politically for Rove and W leading into the November Elections

Yep, that Rove sure put things right for the GOP since not being indicted for outing Valerie Plame in a hissy fit of political pique

Here’s some questions I’d love to hear Rove answer-say, under oath

Valerie Plame’s job was to track and disrupt the transfer of WsMD to rogue regimes, groups and individuals, with Iran the focus of her attempts at the time of her outing

In the course of her efforts, she used a CIA front operation called Brewster Jennings, which meant that she had various dealings with undercover operatives, and double agents in other govts, around the world

    So…..

How did outing Plame make this country safer as a result?

How did outing Plame make it easier to recruit the best and the brightest to help keep WsMD out of the hands of rogue regimes, groups and individuals?

When Plame was outed, it was inevitable that her CIA front of Brewster Jennings would be disclosed as well, thereby exposing all those undercover operatives and double agents in other Govts

How did outing Plame, and then Brewster Jennings make it easier to recruit the foreign operatives and double agents needed to keep WsMD out of the hands of rogue regimes, groups and individuals?

How did the Administration’s DELIBERATE outing of Plame increase the trust level between the White House and the CIA’s intelligence analysts?

That Karl Rove, he’s sure going to put the libs in our proper place all right

That effort should be starting sometime before the election if Rove is the genius he claims to be

And even more depressing, Rove’s buddy Ralph Reed got trashed in the Georgia primary

Where’s all that “political capital” again?

  49. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #48, KingCrankypants,

If what you said mattered, then Busby would have won her election, but her share of the vote matched historical patterns for that district, but thanks for playing.

  50. theswan says:

Like Leiberman, like Schumer, like bolton. Do these policy makers have duel citizenship? And, just who do they represent? Benedict Arnolds’ the lot. Vote them out of office.

  51. Spudge_Boy says:

If what you said mattered, then Busby would have won her election, but her share of the vote matched historical patterns for that district, but thanks for playing.

You are correct. The corrupt republicans of San Diego support corrupt republican leaders. Thanks for playing.

  52. Chase says:

Why would the Democrats prevent an up-or-down vote? Oh yeah, because they don’t have enough support for their position.

I’ve never understood the filibuster. It’s such an undemocratic tool.

  53. Krazny says:

    Chase,

Both sides have used the filibuster. I believe the record is held by Strom Thurmond in an attempt to prevent equal rights amendments.

  54. Chase says:

#53 – I guess the use of a procedural filibuster, that is denying cloture, is different than the kind of actual filibuster Sen Thurmond used in 1957. For some reason I don’t have as much of a problem with that, being as that he actually had to stand up there and read and read and read. A filibuster of Bolton wouldn’t require anything near as demanding.

I understand both sides have used it and I don’t agree with either side doing so.

  55. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #52 & #54,

The filibuster is not Democratic, but intended to prevent the tyranny of the majority. It creates either the tyranny of the one, or the tyranny of the supermajority.

  56. Chase says:

From my understanding of Mill, the “tyranny of the majority” doesn’t apply (at least directly) to political institutions but rather is the tyranny of a “prevailing opinion”. I may be a little off, but I seem to recall that much.

Procedural filibusters give the minority party more power than they should have in a system like ours.

  57. KingCranky says:

I see you Jason wouldn’t answer my questions about Tove’s outing of Valerie Plame

Nor did you shoot down ANY of my other points eithet

    What a surprise

As I said, logic or abstract thinking aren’t your enemies, no matter how much Rove may tell you otherwise

    Try again lil’ trooper

  58. Jay Randal says:

Can someone please get Schumer to marry Lieberman, so they can run off together to Israel please > lol.
