20,000 Iraqis displaced in 10 days.

By Nico Pitney on Aug 1st, 2006 at 4:16 pm

20,000 Iraqis displaced in 10 days.

20,000 Iraqis “fled their homes to escape sectarian violence” in just the last 10 days, the Iraqi Ministry of Displacement and Migration announced yesterday. “In some cases, typed notes ordering people to leave within 48 hours have been left with a bullet taped to the page.”

  2. mylanta says:

those ingrateful refugees are leaving because they hate our freedom and our way of life!

    good riddance!

  3. dlet says:

Nothing says I hate you more than a Bullet Deathnote.

  4. blogenfreude says:

In some cases, typed notes ordering people to leave within 48 hours have been left with a bullet taped to the page.

Apparently they have plenty of ammo.

  5. Jesus Christ God of War says:

Ah… the glories of bringing democracy and peace to the Middle East…

Heck of a job, Emperor Bush! ITMFA!!!

  6. john negroponte says:

    thanks :)

    the bullet was my idea…

    god, i LOVE my job!!!!

  7. Tobey Tall says:

I bet oil was discovered under their feet, America sending the internal militia to place bullets on their doors so America can drill under thier homes for oil or to place a new pipeline under their homes……….. America leave iraq

  8. kindness says:

Figuring out my Seasons Greetings Card addresses this year is going to be hell!

I know, we shouldn’t be joking about it. Hey, we joked about Katrina, at the same time we bitched about bushco’s lack of anything during it. Same thing, different neighborhood.

  9. Tim says:

Iraq has an entire government agency devoted to civilian displacement? Holy frijole! Where is that mentioned on the White House web site?

Talk about voting with your feet.

  10. Zooey says:

    god, i LOVE my job!!!!
    Comment by john negroponte

I’d love it too, if my job came with massages and pedicures. :)

  11. hugo chavez says:

    heheheheee.

fidel just called me and asked me to run for president in cuba too! wouldn’t that be SWEET???

democracy is on the march, baby!

  12. Marie says:

Iraq is going so well – let’s start planning a similar course when Castro succumbs to whatever ailment he has. What d’ya think Georgie?
They have all that oil off shore too. Think of the money!!
Let’s bring democracy to everyone — we are not using it any more in America.

Iraq is an abysmal failure — when will anyone appear on TV and say so.

  13. Zooey says:

Hugo, you’d be wonderful as president of Cuba.

Hey hugo, have you met john?

  14. Badmoodman says:

the Iraqi Ministry of Displacement and Migration – - I’m surprised those empty hairdos at the White House haven’t come up with a more positive sounding bullshit name for that department. There must also be “The Iraqi Ministry of Displaced Limbs and Awkward Walks.”

  15. hugo chavez says:

    dddyaes i have, z! :)

we go way back to when he was killing central americans…never liked the guy too much.

\don’t mention pedicures unless you mean it\

  16. Zooey says:

\don’t mention pedicures unless you mean it\

    Are you ticklish, too?

  17. Brian Coughlan says:

Well … at least they gave them more warning than the Isrealies gave the Lebanese …. Jesus, thats actually not just hyperbole.

  18. blogenfreude says:

See these fleeing Iraqis are obviously engaged in acts of asymmetric warfare – why do displaced Iraqis hate America?

  19. hugo chavez says:

err…no, i just like giving pedicures.

  20. DrSinker says:

    Zooey,

I nearly fell out of my chair when I read your first comment in this thread – priceless.

If only this weren’t such a tragedy. If by some miracle we’re able to restore order to that country, who will be left in it? Seriously – does anyone with half a brain think there’s anything left to this war besides the killing?!?!?

  21. Zooey says:

err…no, i just like giving pedicures.

    Funny…gotcha, didn’t I?

  22. For Truth says:

Zooey is freakin’ hilarious, especially about eating the rich on a previous thread, very funny. “You’ll be burping it up for days” LoL

  23. For Truth says:

How come street gangs in the US haven’t thought of doing that? Taping a bullet to a “love note”.

  24. Zooey says:

    Comment by DrSinker

Our presence in Iraq sickens me. I believe it’s descended into civil war, and the US is completely to blame, and you’re right, all that’s left is the killing. GWB should be charged with war crimes and imprisoned for life.

  25. hugo chavez says:

z: wha?? how did you know?? \bright girl\

dr. there is plenty left: after the killing and displacement, there is rebuilding ’settlements’ and reconstruction contracts. where have you been man?

Thanks, For Truth! I have a flair for the putrid. Although, since you lured me into commenting on Bolton’s mustache a few days ago, I see why your name is For Truth, and not For Trust. ;)

  27. Jeffrey Stewart says:

Exactly what evidence is there that Iran is pursuing “regional dominance?” And exactly in what way(s) would this manifest itself? And, why exactly should that be feared?

  28. For Truth says:

    Zooey,

You brought it up again, the stache, just sayin’. You know I was just messin’ around, I hope you can trust me when its serious.

  29. Zooey says:

Always, of course. I’ve got my ’stache problem under control now. *twitch*

Must get back to work. Have a great afternoon For Truth & hugo. Play nicely!

  30. Chase says:

Oh, no! The displacements don’t end in Iraq!

Looks like some (well, one) from Georgia is on the verge of being “displaced”.

  31. KId Clu says:

Maybe the Iraqi Ministry will send one of those notes to the White House.

  32. Tobey Tall says:

The solution is easy “leave a bullet on george bushes Door” maybe he will just dissapear

  33. david duke says:

    chase, now that’s funny!

\meeting moved to third tree from the left…be there or be square\

  34. Chase says:

#35 – Oh put a cork in it. I just needed a way to somehow wind that nugget of info into the thread.

As for displacements? Unfortunate. Such is the case during civil wars, I suppose.

  35. Pampero Firpo says:

    Freedom is on the RUN.

  36. Spudge_Boy says:

    Chase,

No matter who wins in your distraction post, it will still be a democrat. That is a primary. And just an FYI for your young and stupid ass. Most of the lefties here condemned McKinney when she hit that cop. Unlike the republican party, we don’t llok up to those who commit crimes. Dumbass.

  37. katy says:

zooey – your lunches get later and later…

    and hugo/john/money… i know too ;-)

  38. Chase says:

By the way Bluedog, there was suffering in Iraq long before this group was displaced. There was also suffering in Iraq before the Coalition hit the sands.

You’d be hard pressed to find any greater suffering in Iraq than that which happened on March 16, 1988

  39. not the troll Amy says:

#35, God, Chase, you mean you’re actually admitting that there is a civil war in Iraq? Wonders never cease…

  40. not the troll Amy says:

    #42, Oops, I meant #36; not #35…

  41. Pampero Firpo says:

Our soldiers are dying in Iraq today because of bad things that happened in 1988? Remind me again, who was President in 1988 and what did he do about that suffering?

  42. Chase says:

#39 – My “young and stupid ass”? I thought we were over the ad hominems re: age around here after yesterday. Guess not.

I know, my friend, it’s a primary. I’m also well aware that a Democrat will ultimately win the district. I’m pleased the Democrats in GA-4 are smart enough to not nominate a woman who assaults Capitol Police to continue to represent them.

Enough sidebarring, back to Iraq and suffering.

  43. Chase says:

#44 – You must be confused.

Iraqis, specifically those unfortunate enough to live in Halabja, suffered in the most extreme way at the hands of the erstwhile tyrant, Saddam.

  44. Pampero Firpo says:

November should be fun watching Republicans RUN from this administration and their failed policies. Republicans with any concious or grasp of reality know they have to run against the war to win re-election.

  45. kelso says:

We gotta destabilize the countries over there so that me and my buddies can destabilize our country here. –GW

  46. Pampero Firpo says:

. . .and I repeat, who was President in 1988 and what did he do about that suffering in Halabja?

  47. Badmoodman says:

Chase: “You’d be hard pressed to find any greater suffering in Iraq than that which happened on March 16, 1988″ – - Our president would be hard pressed to know the significance of that date. And not to minimize the horror, this was great suffering in one city, not the entire country.

  48. Chase says:

    #50 – Source that please.

  49. Pampero Firpo says:

kelso: The “destabilize” theory works for me. Cheney’s plan all along was to keep Iraqi oil in the ground thus spiking oil and gas prices here–bringing untold profits to Bush supporters. Democracy? Freedom on the march? Remove Saddam Hussein? Give me a break.

  50. Bowdler says:

I’m tempted to send $100 to the re-elect McKinney campaign. What was the vote in congress in support of isreals Lebanon incursion? Something like 410 to 2. At least she has enough balls to tell isreal they are wrong when they are. The rest of our govt. is either bought off or scared.

  51. Chase says:

#51 – And not to minimize the horror, this was great suffering in one city, not the entire country.

Nice try, but in saying that you do, in fact, minimize it.

Actually, it would appear as though our President does in fact, know the significance of that date.

  52. Chase says:

#53 – Chase, did you know that the famous picture of Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam happened AFTER this incident you’re so fired up about?

This picture? Actually, that was December 20, 1983.

  53. Chase says:

    #54 – I’m a dick for asking for a source?

Can’t find the numbers your citing. Have an actual page that gives that estimate?

  54. Badmoodman says:

Chase: #50 – Source that (Baghdad body count) please. – - “We don’t do body counts.”

  55. Pampero Firpo says:

Was that the Rumsfeld picture with Hussein after they closed the deal to sell Iraq the WMD that Bush couldn’t find in 2003? Were those WMD used in Halabja in 1988?

  56. Chase says:

Haha. Well apparently the WHO does. Either they do or Bluedog does, one or the other.

  57. Spudge_Boy says:

I thought we were over the ad hominems re: age around here after yesterday.

Absolutely not dipsh!t. As long as you work at remaining intentionally stupid I will call you on it.

  58. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

#25 – …GWB should be charged with war crimes and imprisoned for life…

By now everyone realizes why the Bush Cabal failed to participate in the World Court.

I have grave concerns that anyone in the US will lift a finger against GWB and his Henchmen or Condi (his secret wife) or Jeff Gannon (his not so secret lover). No one yet cares enough to arrest, make stand trail, and then physically remove these bozos from office.

How about exile? That used to work in ancient times. Strip the Bush Cabal of all their money (which could be used to help pay down the massive national debt), strip the Bush Cabal of their US citizenship. Then send them to… oh… how about the Congo… or Afghanistan… or Iraq? There they would live out their days with no hope of every being able to return to US soil.

  59. Spudge_Boy says:

Enough sidebarring, back to Iraq and suffering.

You’re the stupid ass that side barred, not us.

  60. big chase fan says:

can you clarify what the significance of a tragedy fifteen years ago involving the kurds has to do with these 20,000 refugees?

i am almost certain my hero is simply dragging more red-herrings through the room, but, i am not sure… he must have a link somewhere… is it that anything his war-criminal bush does today is ‘okay’ because WE GOT RID A SADDAMM DAMMIT!

no, really, big chase fan…just fill in the blanks oh great one!

  61. Chase says:

    #62 – Ally? I don’t think that’s the most accurate description.

That we supported Iraq in it’s war against fundamentalists in Iran, that’s most accurate.

Are you trying to say we supported Saddam’s al-Anfal campaign against the Kurds?

  62. Chase says:

#65 – Bluedog, really. I’m not dismissing you. I just want to see where you are getting this information from. Citation is crucial.

  63. Spudge_Boy says:

Actually, it would appear as though our President does in fact, know the significance of that date.

Just because George Bush’s handlers setup a photo op with some of the survivors doesn’t mean that March 16, 1988 means anything to him.

  64. Krazny says:

Indirectly we funded the al-anfal campaign. We also supplied Iran with weapons when it started to look as though Saddam would succeed in overthrowing their government.

  65. common sense idea says:

    #66

like your thinking jesus. but, may i recommend getting the old circus cart cages from barnum and bailey.

each cart would have one of the animals of the administration in it, naked, with only hay and their own feces in their cages. each state gets the war-crime train for a week at a time, to pull through their state, or load on the back of an amtrak!!

that might be too good for them, but, it may be all we can do…oh, until they die, that is…

  66. Chase says:

#68 – I cited the al-Anfal campaign (where an estimated 182,000 Kurds were executed, many more displaced) only to show that Iraqis were suffering long before today.

    That’s all.

  67. Bowdler says:

20,000 Iraqis displaced in the last 10 days. That doesn’t make any sense. Hasn’t bush been saying we’re making progress and we’ve turned a corner about every 2 weeks since those precocious sailors hung up that mission accomplished banner on the aircraft carrier. Plus, didn’t cheney say that the insurgency was in its last throes over a year ago? Ah… I remember the conservative pundits arguing that last throes could be violent. I think this is just another case of the media reporting only bad news. Think of the good news. We are building hospitals and schools. Or, at least enriching the friends of bush who are supposed to be building schools and churches. Isn’t thats what is important.

  68. Chase says:

#72 – Alright. I showed that President Bush had met with survivors, debunking Badmoonman’s claim that he had no idea about the date.

If you want to pretend like he had no idea about the events, go ahead.

  69. Pampero Firpo says:

Bowdler–I hate to break the bad news to you, and I hope you aren’t too disappointed, but this administration is rife with immoral, unprincipled, and patholigical liars. Things are not going well for ANYONE in Iraq–the least of which are the people that have to live there every day. The truth matters. Who can trust the neocons to get it right after they’ve gotten it wrong so many times?

  70. Spudge_Boy says:

If you want to pretend like he had no idea about the events, go ahead.

I don’t need to pretend. All you have to do is listen to his sorry ass and you know the cocaine has remove a large protion of his mental ability. You don’t notice how he sounds half way retarded. You must keep in mind that he is not from Texas. He is from Connectitcut.

  71. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

#74 – like your thinking jesus. but, may i recommend getting the old circus cart cages from barnum and bailey.

that might be too good for them, but, it may be all we can do…oh, until they die, that is…

You’ve hit on something here. The Bush Cabal acts as if it is judge, jury, and executioner all rolled into one. But what the executioner knows that the Bush Cabal apparently is too arrogant to understand is: Everyone dies. There is no way out.

So why cause the early death of someone in a land far far away that has done you no harm? The cost of hate and killing is very high. We are all worm food. So why would it be so difficult not to show just a little “Christ like” compassion for people before they marched off and tried and kill ‘um all?

  72. bones says:

To GW this is a great success, a lot less than displaced by Katrina, “See we’re getting better at managing emergencies!”.

  73. common sense idea says:

jesus…can’t we just do the train thing too??? it would be an example to all, especially our children and the world, what american’s really think of war-criminals…

they act like animals, so, we put them in an old circus train, all red and gold and shiney, with thick black bars, hay, and naked bush administration folks on all fours, fouling themselves, as we pull them across the country???

if there is a god, that would be a pretty good remedy, no?

  74. RUCerious says:

#83 – I like the train idea. Have a cart in the front of the train loaded with rotten eggs and leftover rotting vegetable matter to be hurled. They deserve worse, but many would benefit from the exercise.

  75. Impeachcheneythenbush says:

This is truly pathetic. We “rid” them of Saddam and we bring this upon them? God forgive us!

  76. Juan C says:

20,000 Iraqis displaced in 10 days
Whats with these people? They dont want freedom?

  77. Juan C says:

Chase, just some questions. Do you support US illegal invasion? Would you have supported dozens of other US occupations? Are you absolutely sure your government looks for your benefit and Iraqi´s benefits? Why does US dont bomb Saudi Arabia, you know, one of the countries with the worst rights violation record in the world and country of several terrorists of the 9/11?

  78. Jay Randal says:

Wow 20,000 in Iraq fleeing from violence, but about one million are fleeing from the Israeli fascists in Lebanon > what a damn mess Bush and Olmert have made > shame on them!

  79. Cyra Brown says:

BushCo can only focus on one disaster at a time. Screwing everything up is hard work. When does GWB head for the ‘ranch’?

  80. Evil Spaniard says:

Just for the information of the righties that think that displacing people from their homes and making them refugees isn’t very important: Hezbollah and a couple other terrorist organizations were born in the refugee camps of the people displaced by Israel.

The USA is playing the Terrorist Breeding Game and is winning.

  81. I Hate Liberals says:

now that we have started throwint ehse progressive a-holes out of meetings when can we statr throwing them out of America?

  82. Redleg says:

    Comment by I Hate Liberals,
You’re welcome to come and try it with me. You are revealing yourself for what you are: a fascist who wishes to drive out a sizable number of fellow countrymen and women. You ought to be ashamed to call yourself an American.

  83. RUCerious says:

    Dear Hater,
As soon as you s l o w d o w n and learn how to type and spell words, then maybe you can start throwin us out of our country. Bring it on, fascist!

  84. Redleg says:

I Hate Liberals doesn’t give a crap about spelling or education- heck, his heroes Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity didn’t need much education to get where they are today. All you gotta do is learn how to lie and speak loudly and angrily and the GOP will find you work.
