Well the way that read to me was that they believe that things are not going our way and things are getting out of control. So the only two choices we have are to admit defeat or become engaged in a full out war in the region with whomever twitches first. Its the self prophecizing goal that the neocons want. They want total war and we are nearing the edge. Imagine if this administration was in charge during the Cuban missle crisis. We would not be here. They are out of control.
The idiots will never admit defeat. They will continue on and blame the defeat on the next administration, along with the crappy economy, deficet, and any other problem that creeps up. The party of personal responsibility isn’t very good at accepting responsibility.
The armed forces did what they were commanded to do on the ground. No defeat. Neocon fantasy of being worshipped by the Middle East and take control of all the oil and to kill all terrorists….smashing defeat. It would not be a cut and run…just a return to reality.
BushCo is getting everything they ever wanted. Only what you end up with never looks anything like the picture. Fantasy is always better than reality, but fantasy has no place in war. Reality is all there is. Like it, or not.
Just finished watching 5×15 of the X-Files. Remember them? The episode is a “prequel”, and set in the 1950’s. I was struck by the comment Hoover makes to an FBI agent.
HOOVER: … in less than seven years the odds have changed from nine to one in our favor, to eight to five against us. The threat of global communist domination is a reality that can be ignored only at the risk of our own annihilation.
DALES: The men we arrested weren’t communists.
HOOVER: If we are to defeat the enemy, we must use their tools. We must go further. We must do those things which even our enemies would be ashamed to do. It is only through strength that we can make our enemies fear us, and thereby ensure our own survival. You have one chance, Mr. Dales, to save yourself–to demonstrate that you have the strength to serve your country.
What is especially interesting is the tone of the piece, the clear disapproval by the writer of what Hoover is saying, the sense of brutality he is trying to instill.
Yet, here we are a mere 7 or 8 years later, were people daily post worse, and people consider Jack Bauer to be an honourable and brave protector of freedom. Food for thought.
BUSH-
You have No God, You have No Honor, to defend your Father who made this Osama, Been paid from Binladden, Sadam, and the Talibann! WHO’S OIL ARE YOU PUTTIN IN YOUR CARRAVAN?
Diet, I’m surprised at you. Don’t you know that losing the Iraq war will not be the fault of the next administration? Bushies will blame Bill Clinton for losing Iraq.
First thing first: no one is going to get fire at the National Review. Why? Because the National Review, like FOX News, doesn’t operate like an ordinary news outlet. Both are privately subsidized by right wing corporations for the sole purpose of bashing any and all liberal and progressive news that contradicts their perspective. In short (since these guys and others like them) they ran herd over the mainstream media, trying forever to paint the liberal perspectives as the big fat lie. This is their sole objective, not reporting the truth. They don’t need to tell the truth. THAT’S NOT WHAT THEY’RE ABOUT. Since they gotten the mainstream media buffaloed, the likes of the National Review and FOX News were given carte blanche in spewing any and all the lies they wanted—and the majority of stupid Americans went along with them because it what they wanted to hear! Can you say Rush Limbaugh? Michael Savage? In other words: NO ACCOUNTABILITY. None needed nor will it ever be needed. Thus, no one get fire at the National Review—nor will they ever.

When the writers at National Review “win” the race to be first at their local unemployment department, I’ll crack a beer and toast them.

August 1st, 2006 at 3:25 pmPerhaps the National Review really meant to write, “We’re Whining”, although that wouldn’t exactly be a news flash.
