It seems Democrats are supposed to think there is, Republicans think there isn't. Why not just realize there is? It is happening. We should be spending our money on preserving the planet, not talking about the "second coming". The conservative religious right is totally out there, off the charts. There's a great series of two articles in http:www.ilfpost.org by Jane Poynter who lived inside Biosphere 2 for more than two years, and her articles are well worth watching. They are called "Environmentalism is Dead, Long Live Environmentalism." Oh, and Number 37, "Roy Blunt" I should hope your comment is a joke. I am laughing. The company apparently "says it is going carbon neutral partly to fight global warming, which damages its business by causing more extreme weather, and therefore more claims against its policies. But it also hopes to gain experience of a new type of risk which it can manage on behalf of its customers." ("Upset about offsets",The Economist, Aug 3rd, 2006). The Economist further reports that "various emissions-belchers have joined the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), which requires them to eliminate or offset 6% of their emissions by 2010" and allows its members to buy credits to offset their carbon emissions. "Its membership has grown from 23 firms at the end of 2003 to 210 now, including such corporate titans as Motorola, DuPont and Ford." If Big Business is taking climate change seriously, how can government justify hiding its head in the sand? Fuel. Global warming is a great distraction that people can argue about forever. Sooner or later the oil will be gone, and the natural gas. The economies of the world need more and more fuel and there is only a finite amount. If you think global warming is going to be catastrophic, then without major changes in policy to modify our infrastructure, it'll be a picnic compared to the food riots and the poverty and sickness because EVERYTHING will stop pretty much.
