Civil war is a more likely outcome than democracy
in Iraq, Britain’s ambassador to Baghdad William Patey said in a confidential memo leaked to the media. “Even the lowered expectation of President Bush for Iraq — a government that can sustain itself, defend itself and govern itself and is an ally in the war on terror — must remain in doubt.”

August 3rd, 2006 at 11:49 amoh and on a serious note, I love the line: “the next six month are crucial”.. hahahaah my god how many times have we heard that one? is that the standard line when people feel like theres actually some realistic possibility of things changing and need to set some arbitrary “not too long, not too short” amount of time for things to magically turn around? sorry all you “6 monthers” it WILL be civil war. period. iraq will break into multiple parts. the only real question now is how badly such breakup and violence will destabilize the surrounding region.

It goes straight up the chain from various divisions of the defense department, to Rumsfeld, Gonzalez, Powell, Ashcroft, Addinton, Cheney and Bush. These people involved have no regard for extreme pain and suffering of the masses a “collateral” damage (killing of innocents) is far greater than the original group of terrorists. Now every male that can hold a gun in Iraq is considered a target. The people that are responsible should be routed out and put on trial. These same people have destroyed the constitution and bill of rights for their own purposes. Senators and Congressmen that have voted to eliminate American’s freedoms and liberties should be identified and impeached. They have turned this country into the Secret State of America and are as transparent in their decision making as a tarpit.

In fairness, I don’t recall John Kerry saying anything like that. I did get the sense that Kerry felt the US needed to “fix” Iraq and thought he’d be better at it than Bush. I think the beginning of the problem was the Republicans shameless trumpeting of “Patriotism” and the Democrats fearful cowering in response. I remember when Oliver North tried it during the Iran/Contral hearings and was eloquently scolded by George Mitchell, saying that dissent was not unpatriotic, but rather our patriotic duty. Mitchell gained a lot of respect in my eyes that day.
The Republicans raise a illegitimate argument when they cry that Democrats have no plan to fix things. Democrats are not privy to the necessary information in order to formulate a plan; that information has been systematically withheld or distorted from the beginning. I think Democrats (or Progressives) have a different philosophy and approach, and would tackle the situation in a different way. But I don’t think it is reasonable to expect them to have a detailed plan when they’ve been excluded from the whole picture. It is especially unreasonable given that the administration has not itself delinieated a plan and only repeats, “stay the course”. I think Kerry’s mistake was to fall for that argument and tried his best to present a plan and his credentials to carry it out.

…I woke up this morning to scenes of carnage and destruction on the television and for the briefest of moments, I thought it was footage of Iraq. It took me a few seconds to realize it was actually Qana in Lebanon. The latest village to see Israeli air strikes. The images were beyond gruesome- body parts and corpses being hauled out from under tons of debris. Wailing relatives and friends, searching for loved ones… So far, according to humanitarian organizations, 34 were children. They killed them while they were sleeping inside their bomb shelters- much like the Amriya Shelter massacre in 1991…
I’m so frustrated I can’t think straight. I’m full of rage against Israel, the US, Britain, Iran and most of Europe. The world is going to go to hell for standing by and allowing the massacre of innocents. For God’s sake, 34 children???…
And the world wonders how ‘terrorists’ are created! A 15-year-old Lebanese girl lost five of her siblings and her parents and home in the Qana bombing… Ehud Olmert might as well kill her now because if he thinks she’s going to grow up with anything but hate in her heart towards him and everything he represents, then he’s delusional.
Is this whole debacle the fine line between terrorism and protecting ones nation?…
I strongly encourage WingNuts to consider the implications of this. What is being played out is the Konservative Agenda. And as I already pointed out, there is little support for it. The blood from pursuing this Agenda are on the NeoKons and their Konservative friends.
