Climate change over the next 20 years could result in a global catastrophe costing millions of lives in wars and natural disasters..
A secret report, suppressed by US defence chiefs and obtained by The Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas
as Britain is plunged into a 'Siberian' climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world.
The document predicts that abrupt climate change could bring the planet to the edge of anarchy as countries develop a nuclear threat to defend and
secure dwindling food, water and energy supplies. The threat to global stability vastly eclipses that of terrorism, say the few experts privy to
its contents..."

SNAP. Took the words right out of my mouth.
For Christs sake, water is lethal when inhaled, and we actually need that to live. This guy sees no circumstance were CO2 is a pollutant? These people are beyond moronic.
We need to warn the Honarable Idiot from Texas of the dangers of dihydrogen oxide
Its toxic properties:
- Causes excessive sweating and vomiting
- A major component of acid rain
- Can cause severe burns in the gaseous state
- Accidental inhalation can kill you
- Primary contributor to erosion
- Decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes
- Has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients
- May dissolve metal ions especially in the presence of road salt
What's your point? That a slightly reduced (but historically high) forecast for number of hurricanes proves that Michael Chricton is the world's greatest scientist and climate expert?
Why not? the right seems to enjoy Islamo-headchoppers. I think I or anyone can make up a term. What depends is how catchy the term ends up. Would Christofacist ever make into mainstream like American Taliban? Probably not.
Now they blame God and if that doesn't work they'll blame Bill Clinton. Notice Bush never get blamed for anything that he's done wrong and there is alot gone wrong.
Now that's the Bush policy and a new generation of kids will learn to blame others never themselves. What an example of democracy and values of the United States. I guess the GOP can be proud of the new christen values of America.
Bill Clinton, who was IMPEACHED, succeeded in moving the Dems to the middle, now the progs are pulling the Dems far left. Liberal pundits have pointed out how this same situation in the 60's resulted in Nixon's election to president. Bubba made your party viable, so I give him far more credit than blame.
Jason the Dems never moved from the middle. the wackos running the government, are just trying to claim the far right bit of the bank they claim as being the new middle.

Just a footnote about Global Warming: the official climate observatory of Barcelone (Spain, Europe), has just released this statement "July has been the hottest July in average since 1914". That is 92 years. There have been 27 days over 30ºC (86F), and a maximum of 35.1ºC (95.18F). That's HOT for this city.

Spaniard,
That is the biggest problem for the world with the US government not taking Global Warming seriously. Its not contained within the US. The only boundary it is kept in by is the one between space and the atmosphere.
the weather is also not the only reason to do something about pollution:
1) we have a moral obligation to protect the planet for ourselves and future generations
2) dependence on foreign energy sources is driving most of the conflict in the world... by investing in the many practical alternatives, we can do a lot to bring peace to the world... what could be more Christian than that?
3) Oil companies are going to have to make a sacrifice at some point in the future... better that it happens now, rather than later when its too late to fix the mess.
The same thing happened with the telegraph companies when the phone was invented: they went out of business.. well, the world ain't always fair is it? (where have I heard that before?)
Since it's God's fault - solve global warming - impeach God. The hearings would be very interesting. They would have to shore up the lightening protection systems in the Capital Building if the hearings were not held in Hell (Which would be the most probable venue.).

I thought this thread was about Bartons idiotic quote...Seems these righty's always find a way to blame Clinton. Nice try but unfortunately this website is not sponsored by FOX NEWS. Take your pathetic rhetoric and stick it up your @$$.
I have no opinion whatsoever on global warming. I'm in Texas - it's always warm. I also understand the world goes through natural warming and cooling periods. I'm reminded of a George Carlin bit which really struck a cord with me:
The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through all kinds of things worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles...hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages...And we think some plastic bags, and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet...the planet...the planet isn't going anywhere. WE ARE!
We're going away. Pack your shit, folks. We're going away. And we won't leave much of a trace, either. Thank God for that. Maybe a little styrofoam. Maybe. A little styrofoam. The planet'll be here and we'll be long gone. Just another failed mutation. Just another closed-end biological mistake. An evolutionary cul-de-sac. The planet'll shake us off like a bad case of fleas. A surface nuisance.
Dr. Gray may be a quack. He may not be. For a supposed quack, his predictions sure get a lot of media coverage - from Newsweek, Reuters, The AP, the Houston Chronicle, the New Orleans Times-Picayune, and CNN.

Most of his arguments can be translataed into "it is not so because I say so", or he tries to smear global warming proponents by insinuating financial interests.

Poor Mr. Gray, first lost his Government funding for hurricane research, THEN became a Global Warming skeptic because funding shifted towards GW research.
We have been lucky that our atmosphere allows for life forms to even exist > look at the other planets that have toxic chemicals floating around them > if we keep polluting our world, then one day we might NOT have any air to breath?! And as the air vanishes we might be forced to crawl on the ground sucking the last vapors, before we all perish!
#4 - Thanks chase, if you read the details, you will notice that the predictions are still way higher than in the last century which was only 6 years ago.
POST 1-AUGUST PROBABILITIES FOR AT LEAST ONE MAJOR (CATEGORY 3-4-5) HURRICANE LANDFALL ON EACH OF THE FOLLOWING COASTAL AREAS:
1) Entire U.S. coastline - 73% (average for last century is 52%)
2) U.S. East Coast Including Peninsula Florida - 64% (average for last century is 31%)
3) Gulf Coast from the Florida Panhandle westward to Brownsville - 26% (average for last century is 30%)
4) Above-average major hurricane landfall risk in the Caribbean
With the exception of item 3, the hurricane season is still above average.
Chase, you really should READ the articles that you attach links to.
Krazny - Christofacist, good term, only it sounds too inclusive. There are christians that don't support the American Taliban so this term could be seen as offensive to them.

#19 - My point is:
a.) Last years hurricane season prompted forecasters to be overly caution (read: pessimistic) in their 2006 predictions
b.) the media fervor surrounding global warming further influenced their initial predictions, toward a more extreme end
c.) a slow start to the season has led them to moderate their estimates back toward the historical trend.
Fair assumptions?

Fair assumptions?
a) That can be assumed, sure, without the "overly". Whatever that would mean in this topic.

c) That can be assumed.
