I think the chain of reasoning is meant to go like this:

   Any objective finding that COS is a pollutant is true
   => God is a polluter
   => God is bad
   !!! BRAIN EXPLOSION !!!
   => God is good
   => God is not a polluter
   => Any objective finding that CO2 is a pollutant is false.

Krazny - Christofacist, good term, only it sounds too inclusive. There are christians that don't support the American Taliban so this term could be seen as offensive to them.

#4 - Thanks chase, if you read the details, you will notice that the predictions are still way higher than in the last century which was only 6 years ago.

POST 1-AUGUST PROBABILITIES FOR AT LEAST ONE MAJOR (CATEGORY 3-4-5) HURRICANE LANDFALL ON EACH OF THE FOLLOWING COASTAL AREAS:

1)      Entire U.S. coastline - 73% (average for last century is 52%)

2) U.S. East Coast Including Peninsula Florida - 64% (average for last century is 31%)

3) Gulf Coast from the Florida Panhandle westward to Brownsville - 26% (average for last century is 30%)

4) Above-average major hurricane landfall risk in the Caribbean

With the exception of item 3, the hurricane season is still above average.

Chase, you really should READ the articles that you attach links to.

Bush would never support lowering greenhouse gases because that would say that god is a polluter.

#61 - smell of that Texas wisdom - LOL. It must be something in the air and water that makes these politicians from Texas "dumpkofts".

We have been lucky that our atmosphere allows for life forms to even exist > look at the other planets that have toxic chemicals floating around them > if we keep polluting our world, then one day we might NOT have any air to breath?! And as the air vanishes we might be forced to crawl on the ground sucking the last vapors, before we all perish!

Poor Mr. Gray, first lost his Government funding for hurricane research, THEN became a Global Warming skeptic because funding shifted towards GW research.

Hmm, no correlation there (droooool).

#57 - For Truth,
I have contacted Darwin and am working on a treatise to explain a Theory of Devolution in order to explain The Origin of the Neocons. As the Earth has a history of a mere 6000 years, we have been unsuccessful in identifying a species primitive enough to explain their existence. Based on DNA samples, he closest matches have been found in sulfur-feeding tube worms in the mid-Atlantic rift.

Dr. Gray may be a quack. He may not be.
Comment by Chase — August 3, 2006 @ 5:19 pm

I don't think he is a quack. He is an authority in the hurricane field, but on the global warming subject he is flat out wrong.

Most of his arguments can be translataed into "it is not so because I say so", or he tries to smear global warming proponents by insinuating financial interests.

Here is a rebuttal to one of Dr Gray's papers and a window into his "seat of the pants" approach to scientific inquiry: Gray and Muddy Thinking about Global Warming

There will always be naysayers, deniers in science. Once the scientific community reaches a consensus, they move on while those deniers will keep denying until they die.

#52 - Thanks for the link.

I have no opinion whatsoever on global warming. I'm in Texas - it's always warm. I also understand the world goes through natural warming and cooling periods. I'm reminded of a George Carlin bit which really struck a cord with me:

The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through all kinds of things worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles...hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages...And we think some plastic bags, and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet...the planet...the planet isn't going anywhere. WE ARE!

We're going away. Pack your shit, folks. We're going away. And we won't leave much of a trace, either. Thank God for that. Maybe a little styrofoam. Maybe. A little styrofoam. The planet'll be here and we'll be long gone. Just another failed mutation. Just another closed-end biological mistake. An evolutionary cul-de-sac. The planet'll shake us off like a bad case of fleas. A surface nuisance.

Dr. Gray may be a quack. He may not be. For a supposed quack, his predictions sure get a lot of media coverage - from Newsweek, Reuters, The AP, the Houston Chronicle, the New Orleans Times-Picayune, and CNN.

#48 - I think it's obvious that hurricane forecasters were anxious coming into this season and, as a result, allowed that pessimism to influence their predictions.

#47 -
He’s quoted as saying he doesn’t trust ‘fancy computers’ and weather models.

He’s also quoted as saying temperature doesn’t affect Hurricane intensity.

Really? I must have missed that. Got any citation for those "quotes"?

Fair assumptions?

a) That can be assumed, sure, without the "overly". Whatever that would mean in this topic.

b) Not so much. That an opinion if you ask me. But you can "assume" anything you want to. Still a free country...for now.

#19 - My point is:

a.) Last years hurricane season prompted forecasters to be overly caution (read: pessimistic) in their 2006 predictions

b.) the media fervor surrounding global warming further influenced their initial predictions, toward a more extreme end

c.) a slow start to the season has led them to moderate their estimates back toward the historical trend.

Since it's God's fault - solve global warming - impeach God. The hearings would be very interesting. They would have to shore up the lightening protection systems in the Capital Building if the hearings were not held in Hell (Which would be the most probable venue.).
