Two weeks ago, Harper’s reported that National Intelligence Director John Negroponte was stonewalling the creation of a new National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq because he knew the findings would be even more pessimistic than the 2004 version. Today, the Senate today passed an amendment, proposed by Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA), that requires Negroponte to produce the new NIE.
Three Blind mices…
August 4th, 2006 at 3:37 pmroberts stonewalling the phase 2 investigation, whistle blowers not being allowed to testify to congress, now negroponte doesn’t want to produce a nie. if the NIE is produced in under 3 months, it will be packed with shortcomings, half truths and and bush bullshit. if it takes longer than 6 months the information will be irrelevant and outdated before the ink dries on the paper.
August 4th, 2006 at 3:38 pmwho here doesn’t know that the situation in iraq is in civil war? how many other government reports, 4 and 5 star retired generals, and reports have to expose the administration as incompetent.
They won’t get one. Haven’t they learned? The Unitary Executive does not answer to the legslature nor does anyone he exempts under his CNC authority.
August 4th, 2006 at 3:39 pmThis administration has raised stonewalling to an art form in a class of its own. And who’s stopping them? And the Congressional oversight? None, zip, zero, zilch.
August 4th, 2006 at 3:39 pmOf course the new NIE is not due until after the November elections.

… so the people will not know that it’s losing the war until the people can’t do anything for another two years…
Interesting strategy for a war. I think it’s called “the Custer Last Move”.
August 4th, 2006 at 3:48 pmNegroponte might have to cut short a few massages to get the work done.
August 4th, 2006 at 3:48 pmSo how long until a secret executive order that also demands that the order not be disclosed (just like the librarians were given) is handed out… that requires all dictionary makers to change the definition of a civil war?
August 4th, 2006 at 3:53 pmcivil war:
A war between factions or regions of the same country.
war:
August 4th, 2006 at 3:55 pmA state of open, armed, often prolonged conflict carried on between nations, states, or parties.
Bush will get this guy out of this.
August 4th, 2006 at 3:56 pmIts about time.
August 4th, 2006 at 3:56 pm1) Dead people everywhere due to a conflict
2) The killing is between factions in the same country.
We all see this everyday on TV.
It is not a gang fight.
August 4th, 2006 at 3:57 pmIt is not a war between nations.
It is not a struggle of freedom from a king/dictator
It is not random violence
It is NOT a police action
…
3) UE Bush and his administration only see congress and the senate as suggestion boxes; if they come up with something good, then he goes with it. If they pass something he doesn’t agree with, then simple scratch a note and say it’ll hamper the war efforts.
August 4th, 2006 at 3:59 pmThat guy from 1930’s Germany, also had Jewish blood in him, that he hated so much.
August 4th, 2006 at 4:01 pmOFF TOPIC
It seems to me, that since the MSM is starting to write stories about 9/11, why it should be banned here?
Book: Sept. 11 Panel Doubted Officials
August 4th, 2006 at 4:07 pmIsn’t everything going according to John “El Savadorian Death Squads†Negroponte’s plans?
(he he now i’ve got the right thread)
August 4th, 2006 at 4:14 pmIsn’t it just that they want to keep the Iraq occupation (quit calling it a war) out of the news as it’s such a disaster (except for the oil, that is)? Especially before the election? The American people, said Rumsfeld, can’t handle the truth – the truth being that Rumsfeld and Bush and the rest are all a bunch of stupid criminals.
August 4th, 2006 at 4:14 pmI told that stupid congressional committee to back off or else I would sick a death squad on them.
-Johnny “Happy Ending” Negroponte
August 4th, 2006 at 4:16 pm#16 – Popular Mechanics just published a book called “Debunking the 9/11 myths.”
as in the conspiracy theories.
I just heard the guy on the radio factor. He was totally full of shit. He said WTC 7 fell because pieces from the other 2 towers fell on it. Uh huh, that’s why it fell totally symmetrically in on its footprint at near freefall.
August 4th, 2006 at 4:16 pmand it will show up after November, huh? you know it won’t come before
August 4th, 2006 at 4:22 pmRemember the decider’s point of view:
August 4th, 2006 at 4:28 pm
Another member of the Conservative Party pleads guilty to a crime. Claude Allen, the former domestic policy advisor for Bush, pleaded guilty to theft, at a Target store of all things. He said the stress was getting to him. I’ll give it to him that he had a conscience. Having a brain or a conscience is what causes conservatives to go crazy or do stupid things.
August 4th, 2006 at 4:34 pmThe good news: John Negroponte agrees to the new NIE.
August 4th, 2006 at 4:35 pmThe bad news: Pat Roberts is compiling it.

Since you are convinced that the government brought down the towers, do you also believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny as well?
August 4th, 2006 at 4:39 pmthat’s why it fell totally symmetrically in on its footprint at near freefall.

Have you ever seen a large building fall over like a tree?
It requires the building to be tipped half its length in order for it to fall over. No forces exist great enough to do that to large buildings, therefore they always fall on their own foot prints.
August 4th, 2006 at 4:48 pmYou know the real conservatives are getting irked with the Bush Regime when they are passing anything presented by Ted Kennedy…
Perhaps he should next present a resolution for Impeachment?
August 4th, 2006 at 4:49 pmI really think liberals need to run on these conspiracy theories around 9/11. In fact, it should be the centerpoint of their campaigns in the fall. No one will ever vote Republican again, once this message gets out!
August 4th, 2006 at 4:55 pmWe need to stop giving creedence to “real conservatives”. In order to win elections, “all conservatives” are bad.
August 4th, 2006 at 4:55 pmThere is no intelligent life in Congress, Senate, Whitehouse or the DoD. There are only sock puppets for special interests and fifedoms of little consequence. The DoD has done nothing to defend this country and has been nothing but a continual blunder including 9/11. How can any organization go out on a terrism test mission and not have a contingency for the real thing? How did the WHIG nuts screw up planning after lying so completely about Iraq and Afghanistan? Why are the terror states of Saudi Arabia, the UAE who funded al Qaeda and Pakistan who trained them our friends? How has the Administration managed to screw up Lebanon to the point where the Christians have joined the Arabs in the fight against Israel? Does any group up around D.C. and the Pentagon have their head out of their a**?
Finally, what has the Neocons done to the real conservative party that used to be for small government and the Neolibs done to the real liberal party that used to watch out for the working people and what happened to pragmatism?
August 4th, 2006 at 5:01 pmWhite House Behind Bars
Targets Of Prosecution
A few weeks ago, the Supreme Court ruled in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld that the Guantánamo military tribunals violate the U.S. Constitution, the Geneva Conventions and the laws of war. It was a landmark decision, but the court did not address whether anyone may be held criminally liable for these violations. Not only should those responsible for violating these laws be criminally charged, charges should be filed against those in the highest levels of government.
Of course the big question here is who should be held liable for these violations of Geneva? There are several possible classes of criminal targets in a war crimes investigation:
(1) the lawyers in the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel and the White House, who advised the administration that the Geneva Conventions could be ignored and counseled it on how to do it;
(2) the military commanders and officers who sanctioned and carried out (or ordered subordinates to carry out) these violations; and
(3) the top officials who authorized the violations.
Ultimately, the buck stops with the president, who—although he cannot be indicted while in office—could be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, including war crimes.
August 4th, 2006 at 5:11 pmWe need to stop giving creedence to “real conservativesâ€. In order to win elections, “all conservatives†are bad.

I’m not an absolutist. I refuse to act like the very thing I detest – pre-conceived bias.
I voted for Max Clelland when I was a conservative becuase he was the best person for the job. Now that I’m a liberal, I will continue to support the moderate Republican who represents my district because he is the best person for the job.
I only want the best people for the job, and I think Joe Lieberman has proven that it isn’t always a Democrat. Why I like being an Independent, and hope more of them will run.
August 4th, 2006 at 5:20 pmthis filthy war-criminal and mass-murderer negroponte, was confirmed by your with only harkin and wyden voting ‘no’…
if you confirm a career war-criminal, what did you expect to happen?
wake up out there!!!!!!!!!
August 4th, 2006 at 5:36 pmblue,
absolutely correct on that one… but, i think, other than rumsfeld (?) he may the most experienced one…well, if you don’t count daddy bush…
peace,
August 4th, 2006 at 5:50 pm#32 Unbelievable: Once upon a time I too voted for who I thought would be best for the office regardless of party. In the last election, for the first time in my life, I voted a straight party ticket. And it was NOT GOP. I had more than enought of the fascist GOP bastards at all levels covering for this administration of war criminals.
August 4th, 2006 at 5:50 pmWhat? Negroponte not being honorable? Not living up to his word? Why who’d have thought that – he’s a man of such fine character! NOT!!
August 4th, 2006 at 7:29 pmDirty, lying war criminal; the sleazebag’s word means nothing.
Wouldn’t it be nice to see Negroponte sweating it out in front of a Democrat-controlled committee forcing him to testify under oath.
August 4th, 2006 at 7:31 pmYou know the real conservatives are getting irked with the Bush Regime when they are passing anything presented by Ted Kennedy…
Comment by unbelievable — August 4, 2006 @ 4:49 pm
Either that or they know Ted Kennedy is in touch with what the people want. While they publicly bash Ted Kennedy, they only do it because they know he’s right. Every now and then, they have to act a little progressive to appease the voters then go back to being heartless bastards.
August 4th, 2006 at 7:32 pm[...] [From Think Progress] [...]
August 4th, 2006 at 8:34 pmUnbelievable,
Hey I understand your principle, my point was to be absolutist in order to win elections, then we take it from there.
August 4th, 2006 at 8:53 pmI feel thats a key advantage the bad conservative party has in winning elections, to be absolutist that is. Cuz of the Sheeple.
August 4th, 2006 at 8:55 pmOh, I see what you’re saying. Still, with the caveat that I don’t want to oust a Republican who is doing his or her job just because they are a Republican. Fortunately, and unfortunately, there don’t seem to be any up for re-election in the Senate or Congress who can be deemed salvagable… Same can be said for some Democrats. We really need political reform, or in a couple of cycles, the Democrats will be as corrupt as the Repugs. It’s become a massive see-saw of corruption that will keep going without an intervention. I still see Independents as a way to get the Corporate money out of the system, if we can get them elected without the campaign financing many people rely upon.
Al Gore could do it.
August 4th, 2006 at 9:07 pmOh, we’re really sorry, but we can’t seem to find a pen or pencil. Within a couple of months we’ll probably be able to find some paper, but it may have to wait till after November…
August 4th, 2006 at 9:17 pmWhen did politicians forget that their job is to improve life for the citizens of their country? Or, did they not know it from the beginning?
August 4th, 2006 at 11:12 pmNegroponte likes to hide in the shadows like a cockroach, so never trust that man > PERIOD.
August 5th, 2006 at 1:50 amOn T.V., and in the Press, BushCo has no problems praising their “W.O.T.”, and their continuing occupation of both Iraq and Afghanistan. They constantly talk about how great everything is going, and about all of the ‘progress’ they are making. Great. Then why the heel dragging by Negroponte? You would think they would be eager to rub our noses in it, gloating over the ‘Negative Nan’s’, with all of their ‘facts’. But no, they don’t want to. Why not? I’m stumped. (*snort*)
