August 4th, 2006 at 9:36 amThe family of Faye Aline Self and Wanda Faye Hudson need your help.
The police in Louisiana have been COVERING UP at least 2 murders committed by Robert Charles Browne since 1983. This killers family is cops and the families of his victims need your attention. Please we are desperate for answers now.
If you will just take a moment to know the story, they will not be able to keep covering it up. I am begging you to read the following article.
From the Gazette out of Colorado Springs, please pay close attention to the responses of the cops.
““Whenever Aline came up missing and another woman was stabbed by a screwdriver, it should have raised red flags all over the place,†Cole said.
When Cerwin Brown, now deceased and no relation to Robert Browne, left office and Buddy Huckabay replaced him July 1, 1983, “the new sheriff came out to daddy’s house and said everything in her file was gone,†Cole said.
Huckabay told The Gazette the nearly empty file was found in the trunk of a sheriff’s car.
He called the investigation “poor,†but said his administration “worked it pretty hard,†although “there wasn’t much left of the file.â€
Huckabay, who left office in 2000, said he suspected Browne in both cases but couldn’t recall if he was questioned.
Authorities told Self’s family her disappearance and Hudson’s slaying weren’t related. “They stood there and told me my sister just took off,†Cole said. “She has an 11-month-old baby. She’s not going to just take off.â€
Cole said the family helped rebuild the file with dental and other records but found out recently the file is again nearly empty. ”
Snip.
“El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa said Red River Parish District Attorney Bill Jones didn’t say much at a February meeting in Dallas, where agencies discussed Browne.
When Jones was asked to share information, Maketa said, “There was some kind of statement made that they didn’t really have a lot. Disappeared is how it was put.â€

Specter also said that he believes much of the Democratic opposition to his proposal stems in part from Bush’s faltering popularity. “There’s a real opposition to the president today which you see everywhere, and it manifests itself here. . . . There’s an attitude that if the president’s in favor of it, there must be something wrong with it.“
I think Specter almost has it. The ole coot will probably wake up in the middle of the night screaming….”My god, if the president wants it, he wants it to cover up his illegal activities.” Come on Specter connect the dots. Use that wrinkled pea between your ears.
August 4th, 2006 at 9:47 amI read the court papers concerning the ruling that keeps Rep. DeLay on the ballot. His legal arguments are specious .
The Republican party is desperate to reduce the taint of corruption that is now synonymous with Rep. DeLay’s name by trying to illegally remove him from the ballot. Unfortunately, with the Supreme Court now having been hijacked by right wing special interest justices, they’ll find some excuse to break Texas election law and have his name removed.
So far, the best tactic by Democrat is “The voters in Texas chose Rep. DeLay as their candidate and his tactic was “cut & run” by using their political donation to fight to not represent them. Rep. DeLay has proven that he lacks honorable ethical standards.”
August 4th, 2006 at 9:52 amA federal judge “lashed out†at Bush’s EPA yesterday “for pursuing industry-friendly regulations at the same time it missed statutory deadlines to control toxic air pollution from small industrial plants.†The judge ordered to EPA to finish it’s clean air rules by 2009.
Industry-friendly ecological rulings are an oxymoron if industries doesn’t want to invest a single cent, even if they receive later a good benefit, and the rulings don’t force the industries to do anything.
A Gallup poll released yesterday “revealed another upward bump in the number of Amercians (55 percent) who now want a complete U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq in the next 12 months.â€
Bush doesn’t believe in (unfavorable) polls.
Condoleezza Rice expressed support Thursday “for an immediate cease-fire in Lebanon as the first phase in ending the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah,†the “most concrete signal yet that the U.S. may be willing to compromise on the stalemate over how to end the fighting.â€
Yes, Condi (somewhat) favors an “immediate” cease fire, a month after the hostilities began, yet the USA fails to enforce its will. How useful.
Three Senate Judiciary Committee members will block the confirmation of Steven Bradbury, acting head of the Justice Department’s office of legal counsel, to protest President Bush’s move to squash a probe into the NSA wiretapping program by denying investigators security clearances.
Bush today blocks the investigation, but tomorrow will deny he knows shit about it.
“Heat waves like those that have scorched Europe and the United States in recent weeks are becoming more frequent because of global warming, say scientists,†the Washington Post reports.

Oh, Randy was joking when he confessed, for sure!

Bush’s intitiatives don’t look very competitive…
And finally: Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) will play a game of table tennis with an 80-year old pingpong champion “who said he would only donate to the governor’s re-election campaign if he agreed to a match,†the AP reports. “The odds appear to be stacked against the governor.â€
Arnie will be terminated by a grandpa! Hasta la vista, baby!
August 4th, 2006 at 9:53 amA clear majority of the people in this country realize that U.S. troops are being killed and grievously wounded in Iraq for no justifiable reason and are finally calling for those troops to be withdrawn from that country. Why are the political representatives of this country, from both parties, not listening to the people on this issue? If their children were fighting and dying in Iraq, then they just might be whistling a different tune.

It’s Bush’s EPA since Bush only enforces the pro-industry rulings and forgets the rulings that don’t look well to the industrial lobbyists.
August 4th, 2006 at 9:58 am#8 – Don’t forget, the Republicans were more than happy to link all past and current failures to Fmr. Pres. Clinton. Even after he had been out of office for over 6 years!

August 4th, 2006 at 10:00 amAntagonist,
Stephen L. Johnson – Deputy Administrator
Stephen L. Johnson was sworn in as EPA deputy administrator in August 2004 upon a recess appointment by President George W. Bush. Along with EPA Administrator Mike Leavitt, Mr. Johnson oversees the implementation and enforcement of all of the nation’s environmental laws and regulations, as well as EPA’s 18,000 employees and $8 billion budget. Prior to being named acting deputy administrator in July 2003, he spent more than two years as assistant administrator of the Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances. He has more than 20 years of EPA service.
Ann Klee – General Counsel
Ann R. Klee was sworn in as EPA’s General Counsel in May 2004 upon a recess appointment by President George W. Bush. She is responsible for providing legal analysis and guidance to the administrator and the agency’s program offices. Prior to joining EPA, Ms. Klee was counselor to the Secretary of the Department of the Interior. She has served as chief counsel to the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, counsel to the Senate Subcommittee on Drinking Water, Fisheries and Wildlife, and as a partner in the law firm of Preston, Gates & Ellis.

I’d say the same about a Dem president.
August 4th, 2006 at 10:04 amAh folks, the economy is in GREAT shape, not good, but GREAT. We created another 318K unemployed but only a little over 112K jobs.
Unemployment rate is given as 4.8%, but is really at double that, 9.6%. Inflation is definitely under check, companies are only raising prices to the public by 3%.
Yep folks, the economy is great. Largest national debt and trade imbalances ever. We borrow a billion a day from the Chinese, hide, it under the trade imbalance, and every quarter Bushco robs social security of all the revenue put into the system by employers and workers.
One dark spot on the horizon – the senate failed to pass the Paris Hilton Relief Act.
August 4th, 2006 at 10:07 amObviously Antagonist is unaware that five former EPA administrators banded together to protest the dismantling of the EPA by Bush and his political operatives. Antagonist must not have read Russell Train’s op-ed piece (I think this originally appeared in the LA Times) excoriating Bush for cynically crippling the EPA. Antagonist must not be aware that Christie Todd Whitman resigned because she was powerless to run the EPA under the terms set by Bush and his political operatives.
Antagonist, I think you should stop posting crap here until you read some news and educate yourself about the events of which you speak.
August 4th, 2006 at 10:21 amOh, since Antagonist obviously wouldn’t know this, Russell Train ran the EPA under Richard Nixon (you know, that radical American-hating liberal who created the EPA).

by Jay Randal
The August 8th Primary elections, on next Tuesday, are very important because some GOP collaborators are fighting to massacre some real Democrats now!
Sen. Joe Lieberman wants to remain in the Senate to help the Bush Regime, so he is trying to viciously maul Ned Lamont, to prevent Ned from winning Joe’s seat!
GOP agents are doing everything possible to save old Joe, so they might even try to rig ballots or machines for him, and implies they are willing to commit fraud!
In Georgia, Rep. Cynthia McKinney is in the fight of her political life, in a run-off election, against Hank Johnson who is being covertly funded by GOP/DLC!
In a recent debate, in Atlanta, Hank Johnson basically admitted that he has received campaign contributions from Republicans, so he is a GOP collaborator for sure!
Every progressive Democrat must come to the aid of Ned Lamont, and Cynthia McKinney, to give support for their efforts to defeat two devious collaborators!

August 4th, 2006 at 10:41 amI have had a very hard time the last 5-6 years, keeping myself informed of EVERYTHING that bushco does. And, as you know, we are living in a horror story, a collective nightmare.
I admit, it has almost eaten me up alive, and I realize that I can’t let that happen.

August 4th, 2006 at 10:52 amIt should be interesting what Congress will do on investigating the NSA now that the President has essentially told the Legislative branch that he won’t allow them to investigate the program (no clearance,no investigation). This is a President declaring the no one, including the U.S Justice Department, has the authority or power to investigate the President without his permission. And forget the Supreme Court, if there is no case, they can’t rule on it.Maybe I’m overreacting, but wouldn’t this cute trick (if successful) eliminate the word “impeach” from usage. You can’t impeach someone who controls any access to the very information you need for the investigation.

August 4th, 2006 at 11:21 amThis is just unreal…
On August 6, 1945 the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Three days later, the US dropped another atomic bomb on Nagasaki. These nuclear weapons killed over 100,000 people, almost all civilians, and injured many tens of thousands more.
Fr. Carl Kabat, 72, Greg Boertje-Obed, 51, and Michael Walli, 57, sit in jail in North Dakota awaiting a federal criminal trial because of weapons of mass destruction and because of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I visited them last week.
Their crime? They tried to disarm one of the 1700+ nuclear weapons in North Dakota. On June 26, 2006, they went to the silo of a Minuteman III first-strike nucclear missile and wrote on it “If you want peace, work for justice.” Then they hammered on its lock and poured some of their own blood over it. They waited to be arrested and have been in jail ever since. If convicted, they face imprisonment of up to ten years for criminal damage to federal property.
The Minuteman III is a first-strike intercontinental nuclear missile with a range of over 6000 miles and carries 27 times the destructive power of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. There are over one hundred fifty Minuteman III missiles planted in the grounds in silos in just the northern part of North Dakota.

August 4th, 2006 at 11:29 amInteresting point, although I think you mean “remove from office through impeachment” as impeachment is like an indictment. I would think that after an impeachment, the person impeached could be ordered to submit documents and other information to Congress for consideration in the removal hearings. If s/he refused, this could itself be considered a “high crime or misdemeanor” and be the basis for removal.

August 4th, 2006 at 12:39 pmA better football analogy: Bush is like a head coach of the executive, including the EPA. He can hire, demote, fire, and dictate to the administrators (other coaches) and see to it that the agency personnel as a whole (players) are acting in a manner consistent with law and prevailing policies (the game plan). Just like it’s the coach’s team, its Bush’s EPA. Now, how about discussing how poorly the EPA has been functioning!
Those who mindlessly support Israel, right or wrong, from President Bush on through the cheerleaders in Congress and the media, betray the security of the Jewish state. August 4th, 2006 at 3:06 pm#8 Antagonist: It was Bush’s EPA in the days after the WTC came down that the EPA said that the air was perfectly safe at the direction of the Bush White House. Thus, it IS Bush’s EPA.
August 4th, 2006 at 4:23 pmIf the EPA has failed, it would be more appropriate to blame the Administrator as it is under his direction.
Come back when you learn how things work.

Not to kick a man when he is down, but I think there should be no room to wiggle in this argument. From the EPA’s own website:
Who We Are
August 4th, 2006 at 4:37 pmOur staff are highly educated and technically trained; more than half are engineers, scientists, and policy analysts. In addition, a large number of employees are legal, public affairs, financial, information management and computer specialists. EPA is led by the Administrator, who is appointed by the President of the United States.
#69 sheesh, how should I know?

August 4th, 2006 at 5:22 pmI’m totally at a loss to explain how Bush controlls the EPA. As you have not started screaming at Antagonist for being completely unconnected to reality, I was hoping you were coping better.
I can’t change you and you can’t change me.
nuff said… if you don’t want to learn while you’re here – and if you learn you will change – then there is no good reason to be here… trouble makers all too common…
August 4th, 2006 at 5:40 pmQuestion’s of the day……..How many Israel troops have been fighting in Iraq with the bush made up war on terror.?………If there is to be a Peace between Israel and Lebanon do the Lebanose get their prisoners being held by Israel back and will Israel help to rebuild all the town’s they turned to rubble?……Do the Lebonese even get to negotiate for anything or is this just a made up plan by dead eyed rice and Israel.?………Are all the bombs, tanks, planes and bullets supplied by the USA?…..If we are the suppliers of all their military needs and we are the worlds greatest power (cough) how come the media keeps allowing Israel to spout how great the bombs are from Hezbollah, and why are the death count’s so lop sided? (700) lebanon loses and (60) Israel…..What say you all.. I sure would like to know…..Blessings,,,,,,,Peace.

Apparently my appology in #68 doesn’t count for much here at TP, as a few of you can’t seem to resist taking some more shots at me. I’m responding to you specifically, because you’re suggesting that this site is some sort of great bastion of intellect that should be revered. AND the only reason for coming here is to be taught.
I disagree, and I think your comment is arrogant. I come here because I often disagree with the collective ‘wisdom’ here, and because I wish to defend the principles and institutions that I love.
Oh I have learned some things here alright. I’ve learned that attempting to appeal to a liberals’ sense of honesty and fairness is like trying to get blood out of a rock. I’ve learned that liberals will show tolerance for anything except conservatives. I’ve learned that liberals think that they are smarter than everyone else, and I’ve learned that many of you believe the ends justify the means. (as long as Bush got slammed, who cares if it was at a funeral)
However, I have learned some positive things here, and as a result I’ve changed my stance on a few subjects. For the most part, my presence here represents an ideology that many of you liberals detest with every fiber of your beings. Many here even refuse to accept my individuality and my own statements about myself—choosing rather to cling to a stereotype or a caricature of who I am and what I beleive. Where’s the honesty and the fairness in that? Granted, I have acted poorly at times, and have deserved the reprisals against me, but I’ve mellowed considerably and such treatment is undeserved.
I have a hunch that you don’t respond well to being lectured, well neither do I. If you guys practiced the tolerance that you’re so famous for, I think you would get more favorable responses from most of the trolls.
I don’t mean to aim all of this at you katy, and I have no intentions of picking a fight with you, I just want you to know that I felt insulted by one of your comments.

aww… that is a most eloquent posting… can almost hear the violins :]
i am not a malicious person… i really mean no harm… but if you felt insulted by that comment, that is way beyond my control…
i did notice a degree of elevation to your posts, and found it encouraging… but “these are the times…” … and, once bitten twice shy, ya know?

August 5th, 2006 at 12:30 am- A source privy to Hezbollah said that the Shiite movement enjoys a large military capability and that it has more than 100 thousand military-political troops under its command.
The source who asked to remain anonymous told FNA that despite all the limitations Hezbollah is faced with, it has a detailed and extensive organization.
He said more than 950 thousand individuals have enrolled in the list of the military troops, of whom Hezbollah has already managed to organize 100 thousand, adding that out of the said number only 40 people have so far been martyred in the fights during the last three weeks.
The source also reminded that a part of Hezbollah’s organized troops are those who have volunteered for martyrdom-seeking operations and are now ready to launch their missions deep in the enemy’s soil.
August 5th, 2006 at 2:40 amkaty,
I can see that you feel threatened by me, and that you regard me with disdain. For some reason that saddens me. Perhaps it’s time for me to put the ‘Antagonist’ to rest. Nothing good seems to come from my presence here at ThinkProgress—for the readers or for myself.
One bit of advice for all liberals before I go—find a way to add humility to your character. It would make you much more approachable, and it would be far easier to recieve the things you have to say.

I saw your apology, but I don’t think you really needed to give one.
August 5th, 2006 at 12:57 pmYou just need to remember when your on a liberal site, and take your shots.

August 7th, 2006 at 9:48 amThe main problem with your apology in #68, is you did not explain what you were apologizing for.
Each individual looks for different things in a message board. I look for facts that I didn’t know and opinions I didn’t consider. You were offering erroneious facts and ill explained opinions. If you didn’t want either contradicted you should be elsewhere.
