Hey Newt - want to tell all the folks how you go to Bohemian Grove!

You would be hung as a traitor to OUR COUNTRY in a matter of mere seconds.

Yeah there's an insurgency - and WE AMERICANS are just getting started.

Long Live the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights.

Hey Newt, 7 PM's in London just quit the cabinet there - maybe the Iran invasion is shakey, huh?

Folks, if you google Bohemian Grove - go to the Church of your choosing - ITS THAT BAD - it's very aggresively UN-christian - and fat boy goes there - bona fide.

Oh, Goergia folks - sorry about him - it's not our fault - he pretended to be a Republican..!

First, I haven't read the blog on this but have read the article in the Progressive Daily Beacon [http://progressivedailybeacon.com/more.php?page=opinion&id=1231]. What bothers me is the lack of thoughtfully critical distinction paid to the substance of inferrence in Gingrich's speech by any American regardless of party affiliation. The horrid atrocities of Nazi Germany are still in their own frame of reference, as they should remain; although a primary method to keep it thus all these years hence has been the ability and willingness of those possessing freedom to relentlessly pounce on the semblance and image of such substance in speech regardless of source or affiliation. The vigilant zeal of First Amendment knowledge and use--of more free speech used responsibly than free speech abused--seems to me to have always been the successful action. The overwhelm of media consternation in the frenzy of personal and political opportunity is being granted the right-of-way over the actual substance of Freedom framed and granted through the hard-won ethic of our founding documents.
Newt Gingrich, American, former Speaker of the House and model of Republican eloquence? All I see in the spectre of his words and hear in the tone of his speech is the Great Gander of Goose-step and I cannot permit this to pass without distinction. However minor, it is nothing less than a fascist factioning of the American political process and needs desperately to be recognized as such.

I hope all the talk here is AFTER you all have sent your emails and letters to the editor, and marched in the streets, and donated to a couple of peace, justice, or environmental causes. I am very tired of talk that never gets heard in the media or outside the choir.
Personally, I have been counting the anti-war votes among elected Democrats; they are few and far between. So is any resistance to the Repuglican insanity. When Dems turned on Jimmy Carter--when they had both houses of Congress and elected a Dem President, but had nothing better to do with that power than to incapacitate their own President and further corporate global domination--that's when I knew the Dems were done as an effective party forever, and so it has happened for thirty years or so. What stupidity! And now, the DLC is acting as if they are right-wing reactionaries too....only the Green Party is pro-peace and pro-electoral reform, and I will vote where the greatest chance for democracy lies. And by the way, global climate change....

Two quick pont: I also want the administration to be more " competent". I want this administration to come clean and explain why all forensic evidence of the WTC site was carted out to China long before any studies were completed in it. I would specifically want it to rule out the presence of explosive in the metal beams of those buildings, as shown on Professor Steven Jones' paper (Brigham Young University).

I want to know also how the Iraq invasion was planned and executed, and how america sent its topmost foreign policy officer to blatantly lie in front of the Security Council of the UN, and the whole world, about mythical Weapons of Mass Destructions in Irak (Remember how we got in there?).

Then it will be worth it to talk about terrorism, and where it might hiding.

We all want to get out, of course, but Lieberman and the Republicans are
right that doing so would result in a disaster.

The invasion of Iraq was a mistake but not the kind that is corrected by
leaving. I just wish the Administration were more competent in handling
the whole mess. But will voting Democrat be a vote for chaos and
civill war in the Middle East? I think so.

Reasonable points, Greg - New Mexico (#612). I'm not too worried about domestic impositions on my "liberties." (If the administration has nothing better to do than listen into my telephone conversations and monitor my email and bank transactions, then their agents are in for a crashingly boring job. I don't see them restricting my abilities to arm myself, express my political views [which don't cohere with what passes for "conservatism" now), or live my life as I choose to do.) I also wasn't defending the Bushies and Republicans, only responding to your list of their purported "accomplishments," each entry being negative.
I find it difficult to separate "Islam" and "fascism." The entire structure of that "religion," especially its political organization, seems fascistic to its core--not to mention mysogynistic and completely oppressive of personal freedoms (making it a particularly interesting cause for American liberals to champion).
Finally, my judgment on September 11 about upcoming terrorist attacks was based on then-current events, not on any historical record. So your historical analogies don't hold. The first WTC bombing was mostly unsuccessful and terrorist Islam used to fear U.S. response to any act it might carry out.
Is my position "extreme"? Sure it is. But it is hard to deny that we now live in "extreme" times.

RE 605. John what exactly are you opposed to then? Islam or Fascism. You tend to repeatedly bring up "Islamofascism". I don't hear you repeatedly criticizing the anti-liberty measures taken by our government, those that ACTUALLY AFFECT you NOW! Also, you seem to be deathly afraid that a terrorist or some "middle eastern looking guy" with a beard is going to jump out of your closet and cut your throat or force you not to eat pork. Isn't this a little extreme under any circumstance? You can see that my reading comprehension is excellent. As for our country not having been attacked by terrorists since 9/11 being evidence of the Bush administration's great job, how long was it between the 1st world trade center bombing and the 911 attack? It was about 10 years if I remember correctly. The Oklahoma City bombing was conducted by home grown terrorists and islamic involvement though alleged, hasn't been proven. But according to this standard, the Clinton administration did extremely well on preventing terror, without a war or large spending. Hell, the Franklin Roosevelt administration did even better. In the entire 16 year term of Roosevelt's Admin. there was not one terrorist attack. History lesson: Terrorist attacks in Europe and most of the Americas have been relatively rare.

Dear 604, I for the most part agree with you, but when it comes to Newt Gingrich, I think most of us who know anything about him agree that we are dealing with one of the most immoral, if not morally depraved human beings in this country's public life, with the possible exceptions of Roy Cohen and Joseph McCarthy. Can we really rely on anything this man says to be true? Furthermore, is there any doubt as to the depths this man will go to for his own personal ends? Yet some people listen to him and accept his assertions without questioning his motives or the veracity of his statements. The issue brought up here is not whether or not you agree with the policies of the Bush administration, but whether disagreeing makes you unpatriotic or in some sense an enemy of the United States. Our country was founded on the tolerance of different opinion. It is a cornerstone of our form of government, without which, our republic could not exist. Is it any wonder, that there be strong feelings against those who attack this fundamental right, no duty, of American citizens. This attack has been made repeatedly by the administration and its supporters, but isn't it especially loathesome when coming from the likes of Newt Gingrich?

JESUS H CHRIST!!! Gingrich is simply suggesting the threat of terrorism be debated; why all the hate and invective?

The disagreement on the war must boil down a disagreement on the magnitude of the threat from Islamic terrorists.

Is Islamic terrorism is a catastrophic threat to western civilization? If it is then the war in Iraq is just one in a long line of conflicts we will be forced to fight.

If Islamic terrorism is not much of a threat at all, then it should not be necessary for us to sacrifice our sons and daughters.

It is critical that this debate begin.

People, what you don't know is what is defeating you and your causes. THINK! Repubicans and Democrats. Only 2 choices, ever wonder why. One party-two paths. Ohtert countries have coalitions. So the people aren't forgotten as they are here.

What has the Government of Americans ever done for and by the people. Think of our issues and concerns and what has the government dealt with in reality. (IE If you want anything done you must do it yourself.)They have consistantly battled us and deceived us. When you think you begin to see.

They do not want you to see the truth of world events. Nor do they want you to really know how they were staged. Most people are deluded into believing Govenment is virtuous and thinks only of their best interests. Do YOU TRULY think this is so? Look at the obvious element of history. Do people around you do that? Neither does your government. Yet, there are a few that try to. Know them by the past they present to you. A warn path is the one they know which will be continued, used and preserved.

Those foxs have you chickens in the pen and are taking your eggs. Till you can't produce. Then, they'll take you. Finis...or ???

Go back to my posts at #568, #576, and #590, where I explicitly deny being a Bushie, a neo-con, or a Christian. Being an extreme localist about the legitimate role of government power, I'm as anti-big government as one can be. Bushies detest my brand of real conservatism.
However, in your list of the current administration's "accomplishments," you left off one: no coordinated terrortist attacks on our own soil since 9/11. Back on that day, did you honestly believe that we wouldn't see another one for nearly the next five years? I expected to see more within the next year. I was wrong back then, and fortunately so. You? Think that's just a coincidence? (Or is self-honesty a concept that your "college education" didn't stress?)

As a Christian conservative and libertarian I find the insults and venomous comments of both sides of this issue to be the larger and more dangerous problem for the U.S. The lack of meaningful and respectful dialogue has poisoned almost every aspect of our democratic republic. I support the war on terror but I also believe our govt has made gross errors in Iraq and here at home. Bush should be rightfully held accountable as our president but keep in mind that president's back to Washington have resorted to anti-democratic or non-Constitutional means to justify an end (and party affiliation has been irrelevant). Both sides of this thread have raised some interesting points worthy of in-depth discussions. But we are never going to have those discussions if we continue to engage in condescending, crude, insulting, and/or obscene behavior toward those we disagree with (leave that to the Hannity's, Franken's, etc.). Dissenting opinions are neither hate speech nor unpatriotic and are essential to the well-being of our govt. However, we cannot remain a strong nation if we are more interested in tearing each other apart than in respecting each other. Let's talk...
