those percentages are CERTAINLY NOT comforting. I have to say, I am terrified by almost half the people in this country!

  4. GSD says:

America is obviously filled with terrorists and Al Qaeda sympathizers. Looks like I am going to have to launch a major domestic crack-down. Dick, get the domestic shock-troops ready, we are going in to every town and hamlet in the US and are going to root out the home grown terrorists.

  6. DrSinker says:

TPM Cafe also points to a recent WaPo poll citing the majority favoring Dems to handle terrorism over Republicans, 46% to 38%. That’s staggering.

  7. George W Bush says:

‘I hear Americans saying they disapprove this, they disapprove that. The fact is, this isn’t a democracy where what Murricans elect their leader. Look at me, I lost in 2000 and used vote-flipping technology (thank you Diebold) to win in 2004. God knows, if the Murricans had any say I wouldn’t even have a job! So I’m not swayed by polls”

    Sort of an anti-mandate…

  9. AnAmerican says:

He didn’t think he could hide his incompetence behind lies and propaganda for the entire 8 years did he?

Noone could manage that, not even a smart American.

  10. Wayne says:

Glad to see people are finally becoming imune to the effects of the koolaide.

People are FINALLY waking up to the fact that everything Bush touches turns to manure.

Queue another big terrorist plot being foiled. This time the group will be comprised of a group of guys who look “islamish” and were caught in an Army Navy surplus store trying on shoes.

  13. D.Tree says:

Finally the public is waking up from the shock of 9/11 and looking critically at the results of the Bush/Cheney “War on Terror.”

These incompetent idealogues have turned an opportunity to end terrorism into a nightmare of proliferation.

Their inability to deal with nations they do not agree with, and their belief that threats and disregard for the law is enough to prosecute a successful campaign against global terrorism is at the heart of their failures.

They are failing the American people, and they are failing the ideals of the Founders of this great nation.

  14. Tobey Tall says:

Just cant see how anybody can support Bush at all FULLSTOP

  17. Southwest Bob says:

The unfortunate problem for many Americans is that the bush/cheney – repub – media machine frames issues in a manner that to disagree with them is clearly unAmerican or at least disloyal to the flag, mom and apple pie. Most Americans still believe in the numerous myths of American greatness, goodness and rightness in the world, while the rest of the world is weak, stupid and poor. Hence, the need for a mountain of evident of corruption and failed actions necessary to move them toward doubting the “respected leader of the free world.”

  18. Ed says:

To be fair, even if a majority of Americans agreed with Bush’s foreign policy (such as it is), I still wouldn’t think he was doing the right thing.

The important lesson here is for Democrats. These opinion polls clearly show that a majority of Americans support a foreign policy that most Democrats would support. The mainstream media will continue to say that everything that happens, every GOP talking point, is a victory for Republicans and a crushing blow to Democrats. But if Democrats aggressively push ahead with their foreign policy agenda–a gradual withdrawal of troops from Iraq, going after the people who are responsible for 9/11, direct talks with Iran and North Korea and Syria, a sensible approach to the Israel/Lebanon conflict, etc.–I think they’ll discover that the American public is solidly behind them.

  19. I Hate Liberals says:

anybody that believes in polls is not too smart. polls can be manipulated in a myriad of ways. Both the right and the left are guilty of this.
I always question why polls are even mentioned. Do the pollers or the people that report the polls think that the people who see the polls say to themselves hmmmn they say all these people believe in this or that and maybe I should believe that too. what good do polls do? I find it funny that all these polls that the media is gleefully reporting lately all show discontent for the president. I wonder if they would ever do a poll on how much the American people dislike the media. the bottom line is that you can ask a certain question of a certain demographic in a certain way and get the certain answer you are looking for.
I would be interested to know that if the Bush v. kerry election were held today who would win?? I would be willing to bet that despite the polls that Bush would win again.

  20. AnAmerican says:

You’re right Hate, bush’s handling of Iraq, Katrina, Israel/Lebonon, NK, Iran, massive debt, energy, global warming, trade deficits, China, stem cells, the OSP, propaganda, military readiness, the destruction of the middle class, speech and Merckel has been nothing short of masterful.

He’s an incredible asset to the country.

  21. Tom3 says:

“I Hate Liberals” is a typical inbred Chimpyloving moron. He’s been brainwashed to hate liberals without even asking why. He hates gays and brown people too. And he’s probably a closet case…all these Chimpylovers are.

  22. Tom3 says:

When Chimpy stole the 2000 and 2004 elections, the Chimpylovers said the exit polls that showed Chimpy lost were inaccurate. But when there was a fixed election in eastern Europe, all of a sudden Chimpylovers said exit polls were proof that the election was fixed. “I hate Liberals” is typical of this bullshit. What an asshole.

  23. jason baddo says:

bush is the Manchurian candidate….albeit a chimpy one

  24. AnAmerican says:

My favorite bushbot meme is that Gore or Kerry would have been worse.

That one cracks me up everytime.

  25. muckdog says:

What does this all mean? Well, in polling data for the 2008 election, the top Democrat choice is Hillary while the top GOP choice is close, between McCain and Rudy G.

When the poll asked voters between Hillary and McCain, McCain won 49% to 37% over Hillary. Rudy G wasn’t in the latest poll, but in previous polls voters tend to give him the same margin over Hillary that McCain gets.

Al Gore doesn’t do any better.

    Link.

Looks like Bush’s poll numbers could go to 0%, and that still won’t help Hillary or Gore against Johnny Mac or Rudy G!

  26. AnAmerican says:

Yep, Muck, I can’t wait for the GOP to nominate an adulterer or the guy with the Black Child in South Carolina..

There’s still some really dumb people (BubbleHead supporters) in America.

    Send them all to Iraq.

Afterall, the mission is to cleanse isn’t it?

  30. ann says:

And yet 50% of Americans believe we found WMDs in Iraq.

  31. e_five says:

And the conservative diagnosis for all the problems created by the Bush administration is that we just don’t have ENOUGH of their wars, deficit spending, spying, torture, lies, and incompetence. The only thing that can solve our enormous problems is much more of the same.

  32. PLC (PatrioticLiberalChristian) says:

If you dig hard enough you will eventually find what you want to see.

    Comment by Tracy

OH, now I see why BushCo is still in Iraq – still digging around for WMDs, PNAC and American superiority, more balls than daddy, and another business venture that fails for everyone but the bossman. Too bad all that digging goes into graves, an economic hole, and lost credibility in the world.

The Democrats do it all of the time and even members of the KKK.

  35. Krazny says:

Tracy, are you saying that the KKK nominates adulterers, and parents of black children to for office?

I am saying the the Democracts elect adulters all the time and members of the KKK occasionally.

  38. PLC (PatrioticLiberalChristian) says:

Attention: there is a feral pig rooting around on this thread. Don’t feed the feral pig and he’ll find another part of the forest in which to roll in mud.

    Comment by Bluedog49

If a pig seems too easy to shoot, it’s probably the one we should avoid feeding. (As I put myself into full four point restraint).

  39. Krazny says:

LOL then why didn’t you say so? Your poorly constructed sentence made no sense, but then again, you don’t make sense either.

  41. Democratic Soldier says:

#38 – The only difference between the former KKK members that the Democrats vote into office over the former KKK members that Republicans vote into office?

The Democrat members all public ally apologized for their past mistakes and have done much for those they previously felt animosity towards.

Former KKK Republicans (such as Strom Thurmond) never apologized for their KKK history nor for their hateful statements against minorities.

  42. Marie says:

The polls consistently reveal the pulse of the public and GW has been failing for some time now — a little uptick now and then is insignificant – the man is an abject, undeniable failure, incompetent, ignorant, ineffective and inarticulate. Not only is he inarticulate due to his lack of learning and reading, but also because he cannot express what he does not comprehend. He is simply stupid.

  43. Krazny says:

Don’t forget Strom also had an illegitement black child with his families former maid.

  44. Tracy says:

    #40

You are the only one who didn’t understand it…apparently.

  45. Tracy says:

    #42

“The Democrat members all public ally apologized for their past mistakes and have done much for those they previously felt animosity towards.”

So what? Once a racist, always a racist, especially after actually being a grand wizard in the KKK like Byrd was. Byrd only appologized so he could stay in office, i.e. a calculated political move as was his legislation that supported minorities. Thurmond did the same thing by being the first Southern Senator to support intergration, enrolling his daughter in an intergrated public school, supporting black for federal judgeships and hiring black staffers.

“Former KKK Republicans (such as Strom Thurmond) never apologized for their KKK history nor for their hateful statements against minorities.”

Strom Thurmond was never a member of the KKK…or am I wrong?

  46. Tracy says:

    #43

Sounds like a racist to me.

  47. PLC (PatrioticLiberalChristian) says:

Tracy takes a trip down memory lane in order to ignore the fact that, in the present, the bridge is out and the brakes don’t work.

  48. Tracy says:

    #47

    For the left.

  49. Jay Randal says:

I disapprove of everything Bush does as president > he must resign or be impeached > PERIOD.

  50. Movingtocanada says:

If you have not yet read “It Can’t Happen Here” by Sinclair Lewis, do so. It is an eerie and persuasive portrayal of the dangers of demagogues. Bush, regardless of whether he would be invited to join Mensa, is far more dangerous than most people are ready to admit. Make as many jokes as you like, but be watchful. The greatest peril to our freedom is not from Al-Qaeda.
