Plan B may soon be available over the counter.

After Bush administration political appointees interfered and blocked Plan B in 2003, the Food and Drug Administration and Barr Laboratories “agreed yesterday on a plan that could lead within weeks to over-the-counter sales of the morning-after pill.”

    Thank goodness

Plan B saved my ass so many times. It’s about time.

And for the record, I always use condoms, but sometimes condoms break.

Bush’s signing statements are legislative morning-after pills.

  4. Steve53 says:

I’ll believe it when it happens.

  5. Marie says:

Hmm. Sen. Allen retains his stock in Barr pharmaceuticals.

Morning after pill. Thank goodness! No more hangovers.

There is something sneaky going on here – A director left the FDA last year because of the stonewalling on this issue didn’t she? What is happening to cause this change in ruling?

  9. SKdeA says:

And elections? Probably they have to placate the drig companies…

  10. SKdeA says:

Obviously I have been doing way too many drigs…

    THIS CLOSE TO ELECTIONS?

I’m freakin stunned. This is a cave-in to the pro-choice folks, in the eyes of many a Neanderthal. I cannot believe they’d do this now.

But hey, this is nice. And of course, today IS Hump Day….

  12. madashell says:

thankfully this issue is NOT a big deal in my neck of the woods. Our health department gives FREE birth control for those who can’t afford it. And that includes the morning after pill.

    No no no……

don’t fall into that trap setup by right wingnuts. This has nothing to do with abortion.

A fertilized egg is not an embryo until it implants in the uterus and starts dividing. Plan B works by interfering with implantation of a fertilized egg

  14. MrBlueSky says:

I think it’s because Sen. Clinton teamed up with my Senator, Patty Murray, to filibuster the new HHS head until they allowed Plan B.

A [RARE] victory for common sense… and to reduce abortions!!

  15. mroom says:

Once it happens, stock up. You never know how long it will last.

  16. Punchy says:

#13–did you READ my whole sentence?? I know it’s not an abortion drug, you know it, most of us know it. But the Fundies don’t and/or wont. That’s what that whole sentence said….

  17. Zooey says:

The wingnut response to this just might be the next distraction for the MSM.

  18. snookered says:

My guess is some “gang” affiliated with BushCo is now ready to sell some similar drug. They waited long enough to score points with “the base” and at the same time allowed thier allies to make some big $$$$
    …….wait for it!

  19. Cyra Brown says:

They got smart this time. Approve the sale of the pill first, THEN we will talk about the nominee you want. Great idea!
