Tony Snow: A Vote For Lamont Is A Vote For Another 9/11

At a press briefing moments ago, Tony Snow claimed that last night’s Connecticut Senate primary gave voters the chance to answer the question, “Do you take the war on terror seriously?” Snow said that Connecticut voters who backed Ned Lamont (and the 57 percent of Americans who support his position on Iraq) were choosing to “ignore the difficulties and walk away.” That is the same approach, he said, that led Osama bin Laden to the conclusion “that Americans were weak and wouldn’t stay the course and that led to September 11th.” Watch it:

Full transcript:

Take a look at the blogs today, they’re pretty hot. And the real question for the American people to ask themselves is, do you take the war on terror seriously? With all the developments around the world — and, if so, how do you fight it to win? There seems to be two approaches, and in the Connecticut race, one of the approaches is ignore the difficulties and walk away. Now, when the United States walked away, in the opinion of the Osama bin Laden in 1991, bin Laden drew from that the conclusion that Americans were weak and wouldn’t stay the course and that led to September 11th.

It is important to realize that terrorists are not simply inspired by American engagement in the world, but they have their own agenda and it is an agenda that if we turn around and look the other way, they’re not going to ignore. They will continue to build strength and they will continue to build adherence and it is a vitally important debate to have.

And it’s really up to Democratic candidates and the Democratic Party to figure out how they want to stand in the war on terror. Do they want to have the sort of time-table approach, leave by a date certain? Do they not want to have something constructive to say about gathering threats from Iran and elsewhere? Or do they want to acknowledge the fact that in a dangerous world it takes commitment, it takes persistence? Throughout American history, generation through generation has been faced with difficulties, and each generation has risen to the challenge and we’re confident this generation will do the same.

  1. Krazny Says:

Yep keep pushing that dems are weak on security talking point, ignore the polls that show the american public aint buying it.

  2. Progressive Floridian Says:

The Administration (not to mention Fox News) rushing to the aid of Lieberman is making it increasingly difficult for him to make himself out to be any sort of Democrat, even an "Independent Democrat."

  3. Spudge_Boy Says:

This is very odd. The Republicans really like ol' Liberman. Why doesn't he just change to the Republican party?

You know why they are pimping for him so much now right? He was their double agent. Nothing more. They are losing their spy, so they are pissed.

    Good bye Joe.

  4. buzzbomb Says:

Hey shitbag Snow, when people are pissed about something (Iraq) and a candidate supports said issue, he doesn't get the nomination. Its called democracy, but I wouldn't expect anyone associated with Bush to understand the concept. Side note, really ironic Leiberman is such a war monger but bemoans the cartoon violence of Grand Theft Auto. What an idiot. So long and good riddance.

  5. Progressive Floridian Says:

Yeah, somehow agreeing with 60 percent of the American public is "elitist." The DC establishment, the Administration, and its allies are the ones with real power and wealth, hence the only ones that can properly be labeled as "the elite."

They've finally realized the potential of people-powered politics, personified by Lamont and his Campaign. They will do or say anything to squash it.

  6. just a thought Says:

Is it "normal" for the WH press secretary to comment on political cadidates during election years like this? I am really just asking. Maybe it is.

  7. JJ Says:

..and since Bushco at the very least stood down on 9/11 I'm sure Snow can promise it. Subtle Blackmail.

  8. Capt. Obvious Says:

Too bad this joker is appointed, cuz I'd like to throw his ass to the curb with a little Snow-mentum!

  9. KingCranky Says:

    Hmmmmm, lets recap

Which Administration shut down the CIA unit devoted to catching or killing Usama bin Laden again?

Would seem to be a smart strategy to challenge every GOP politician playing the 9-11/National Security card to openly support re-establishing that CIA unit at the earliest possible opportunity, as there's no way to use al-Qaeda as any kind of a strawman electoral strategy, not when claiming al-Qaeda is still a threat to hit the US again

  10. GSD Says:

Mr. Snow, the well of "9/11 fear" is empty. The people can hear the bucket clanging at the bottom. You are looking ever more desperate and hateful.

Please continue on with this out of touch course of thinking. It can only do more harm to your party.

    -GSD

  11. Willy Says:

Supporting Bush is supporting the creation of thousands and thousands of more terrorists. When will Bush stop throwing fuel on the fire. But, I guess that's what you get from an insecure macho boy.

  12. Rebel With A Cause Says:

He also said that the dems wanted to quit Iraq and this was quitting the war on terror.

Linking to the old LIE, eh Tony Snowman?

  13. proudleftists Says:

Tony Snow Fascist spokesman for a fascist administration, so of course they support Fascist-Zionist freak Lieberman ! 60 % of American NOW oppose the Iraqi War-GOP logic- 60 % of Americans are NOW traitors !!

  14. Marie Says:

You're right, buzzbomb, they don't understand the democratic process - theirs is more like the fascist process.

Those who pontificate on the sanctity of life on a dead person, kept alive by mechanical means, or on two cells before they are potential life, but vote to slaughter people in a war of choice are hypocrites of the lowest regard.

  15. Jimmy Says:

Who knew CT was so POWERFUL?

  16. Peter Christian Says:

If we can remove the Bush apologists and speak strongly and logically in a unified way against this sort of tripe, the American people may just realize what absurd and baseless crap the administration has been spewing for so long.

  17. Willy Says:

So why are the Republicans so concerned about what is happening internally within the Democrat party? Or is it that Lieberman really isn't a Democrat (chuckle, chuckle)?

  18. Keith H. Says:

    The Tone-miester ain't lookin' real chipper lately . . .
the thicker b.s. that he's been chokein' on since accepting his new position in the admin. is takin' it's toll.
He'll be needin' to 'spend more time with the family' real soon.

  19. bones Says:

Hey Snowjob, it's a government of the PEOPLE. Nobody appointed you my daddy to tell me what's right or wrong, to tell me what to think, or drag me down a road I and a majority of my fellow citizens DO NOT WANT TO TRAVEL. Dismissing the 57% as "simply a poll reflecting people's felling of insecurity" is a FRICKING patronizing and insulting thing to do. I DON"T NEED YOUR STUPID ASS telling me what I'm thinking. Go kiss George's ass and stop insulting and denegrating my opinion!

  20. clb72 Says:

You'd think they'd understand that Republicans tell Democrats to vote for candidate A in a Democratic primary, that would make them more likely to vote for candidate B.

  21. Wirro Says:

What a slime bucket! If anything is weakening America, it's the GOP 'Divide & Conquer" strategy.

Remember after 9/11 when we were all united? Before Rove/Bush decided to use 9/11 as a way to get their party elected? When we actually wanted to after the people who attacked us?

I remember. And with the administrations failure after failure, the people are starting to remember too.

  22. Grand Moff Texan Says:

Stay what course? Terrorists from Saudi Arabia attacked us, so Bush attacked Iraq.

Save it for the trailer park, Tony. Soon, that's the only support you'll have left.
    .

  23. Vance Says:

Oliver Stones new 9/11 based movie opens today along with the old emotions about that awful day in our history. Watch for the white house and the rupugs to exploit the hell out of peoples fears of revisiting that day. Also, mr. snow, please f*ck off and die.

  24. Erroll Says:

Another persistent attempt by this administration to try and link the occupation of Iraq to the so-called war on terror and the attacks on 09/11. By doing this, Fox is trying to portray the Democrats as being somehow soft on national security, despite the fact that only 7 per cent of the terrorists are aligned against the U.S. and coalition forces in Iraq. Let us see if Harry Reid and the rest of the Democrats can get the message out to the American people that what Tony Fox and the Republicans are saying are lies. They have less than three months to start telling the citizens of this country the truth. It shouldn't be all that difficult for the Democrats to do this. Let us see if they are up to the task.

  25. RealScientist Says:

Pretty soon Snow and Lieberman will both be out of their job.

  26. Jaimie Says:

Funny how the Iraq occupation has now become the 'war on terra'.
Snow is conflating the two again and again. If we want to end our disatrous intervention in Iraq, then that automatically means the Dems want to abandon the terra war.
    what an asshole.

  27. n Says:

It's so odd that they would even give a shit about a Democratic primary, goes to show how nervous they are.

  28. Marq Says:

These people are sick! Tony you are sick!

A real leader (FDR) once said, "So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself—nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance."

These people in office "only thing we have to sell is fear itself—nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror should paralyzes Americans efforts to think and be happy."

  29. Geoff Miller Says:

It's almost as if he is conceeding defeat in Nov. already, isn't it?

  30. Winston Smith Says:

The Lamont win over Lieberman is being spun by Tony Snowflake and the Bushies as a vote to "cut and run." Those against the totalitarian and incompetent Bush Administration must reject the premise of Snowflake's false dichotomy - the alternative to ending the Neocons strategy of imperial never-ending war and the misuse of our military does NOT mean that the alternative strategy is the Republican talking point of "cut and run." Opponents of the Administration’s obviously failed strategy must counter with what the strategy in the controlling terrorism should be. Namely, opponents to the Neocon strategy must articulate a strategy based primarily on law enforcement and anti-insurgency campaigns that have worked in the past. Never does a standing occupying army win a battle of attrition with an insurgency based within a local population: Viet Nam, anyone?

  31. Krazny Says:

It would be worring to, that a pro-war senator in a "safe" state was tossed out. What does this mean for all the republican senators?

  32. whatever Says:

I never heard of Ned Lamont before a month or so ago. It's amazing what money can do to enhance your image. Who's to say how effective a Senator he will be - he has no resume to even peruse. We do know about Joe Lieberman-we don't like everything about him but he is a fair and decent human being. Not to say, Lamont is the devil in disguise. His trck record is still to be run.

  33. David Carlisle Says:

“...ignore the difficulties and walk away.” That is the same approach, he said, that led Osama bin Laden to the conclusion “that Americans were weak and wouldn’t stay the course and that led to September 11th....”

He's talking about February to September 2001, right?

  34. Kurt Says:

I love the smell of Republican desperation in the morning.

  35. Paul Franklin Says:

Now, when the United States walked away...in 1991 ... and that led to September 11th

Gee... Who was president in 1991?

Did Snow just accuse Dear Leader's Daddy of responsibility for 9/11?

  36. Xbot Says:

I think the extent of Americans caring about this issue is outlined on the bottom of that image shown in the video, which reads (in partiality):

More than friends, Jennifer Anistan and Vince...

Since this is such compelling news, that it rates up there with a message from the white house, TP should be reporting this more thoroughly :p

  37. Marie Says:

    #23
Watch for the white house and the rupugs to exploit the hell out of peoples fears of revisiting that day.

That has been my thoughts about the release of this movie - they will use it to fire up the old propaganda/fear machine.

  38. Wisco Says:

There the 'boss's help' Karl Rove promised...

    ------
http://griperblade.blogspot.com - grumblings from the heartland

  39. Marie Says:

#33 it is hard to imagine how things can get much worse with new faces, considering the present group in congress.

  40. DRxJ Says:

Lamont just won, Lieberman just lost, what's a GOP to do??? Ahhh yes, the good ol' Failsafe.....9/11!

    9/11
    9/11
    9/11
    BOO!

  41. Tobey Tall Says:

The way to encourage more terrorism is Bushes method, Although you must understand Muslims in general do NOT do this kind of thing

    WHAT BULLSHIT

  42. Democratic Soldier Says:

#35 - I agree. Ever since Pres. Bush failed to secure the Nation after repeated warnings, they're getting even more desperate to paint everyone else as anti-American. "You gotta drin the kool-aide to be a good American!" Their failing on this front as well. More people are waking up to the nightmare that Regressive policies truly are.

Sorry fellas, but the McCarthy era aint coming back. Of course, this will cause more furrows of confusion as the Regressives lose seat after seat to Progressive candidates.

  43. Zooey Says:

Now, when the United States walked away, in the opinion of the Osama bin Laden in 1991, bin Laden drew from that the conclusion that Americans were weak and wouldn’t stay the course and that led to September 11th [2001].

Soooo, Connecticut can expect an attack by OBL in 2016?
Is that what Snowflake is blubbering...?

  44. . Says:

    Game Show PITCH:
    Premise:
The Republican Style Democracy Show- Contestants keep spinning the election wheel until they land on someone the (R) can OK and control. Thumbs up or down. The crowd yells "Democracy"& "Take our Gift" .The winner gets corporate mega $'s,trips,a get out of jail free card etc.

  45. Ed Says:

#29: Your posts are frequently incoherent, but I can't make any sense out of this one at all. I understand that there's some sort of straw man here (the whole "misunderstood barbarians" thing), but I don't really get what you're arguing.

#10: Mr. Snow, the well of “9/11 fear” is empty. The people can hear the bucket clanging at the bottom. You are looking ever more desperate and hateful.

Maybe not absolutely empty. But Lamont's victory in Connecticut shows that mainstream Americans are beginning to see the emptiness of Bush's policies and promises. The more Snow, Bush, and all the rest keep spouting this utter nonsense, the more people will continue to wake up.

  46. Keith H. Says:

Tone, stick around for a few minutes . . . the people of Connecticut are on their way to have a little chat.

  47. Tobey Tall Says:

Terrorists are some of the cleverest people on earth if they want to terrorise you , You cannot stop them just like drug dealers,

change foreign policy first then theres no need for any terrorists

  48. theswan Says:

I'm just wondering where the administration will drop the bomb. Look out Connecticut.

  49. whatever Says:

I saw a suggestion that Congress should be paid by commisssions. When they do something right, they should get paid. It seems the only thing they do right lately is take vacation breaks. Hey, good salespeople work on commissions only and do well...maybe they could use a cash incentive to pass laws that their constituents want.
Of course, this in tongue-in-cheek but those guys and gals on the hill better do a lot better next term out. With their report cards, they don't deserve being voted in again.

  50. Winston Smith Says:

#48: I agree the the Bushies' so-called foriegn policy needs to change with respect to dealing with violent terrorism (which, I think we all agree, does exist). What would you change the failed Bush foriegn policy to? (See my comment at #31)

  51. Al Gore Says:

Another 911 will happen because the Bush admin will pull it off... AGAIN!!!! Then blame democrats for it. That will be 2 times on old GWB's watch!!!!

  52. DRxJ Says:

#46 tis best just to completely ignore that one. I'm relatively new here, but I've learned to read the user name first. Anything with M.A., I know will just cause massive migraines trying to understand, thus I completely by-pass it and look for real debate/insight

    By The Mighty one

We're paying over 3 bucks a gallong for gas, of course we noticed the rising prices.

  57. Democratic Soldier Says:

#54 - You're looking for a reasoned response from Mighty Afro? HA! That'll be the day that Republicans start believing in fiscal responsibiliity! (NEVER!)

Oh my! I've really got to stop reading these posts. Jokes like that one will cause me to spew my coffe over my screen again!

  58. adams Says:

Here is somethng for you all to get your hands on!

  59. DieNowForPeace Says:

These idiots ALLOW 9/11 to happen on THEIR watch, then falsely ASSUME the Democrats will invite ANOTHER ONE?

    That's 100% ILLOGICAL.

When in fact, keeping the Repukes in power has done NOTHING but harvest terrorism WORLDWIDE.

All they all a bunch of Terry Schiavo's?

  60. S.D. Says:

Wow, that didn't take long. The Republicans will leverage this by painting Sen. Lieberman as a "Centrist" and anyone else as an "Angry Left Winger". Sen. Lieberman cares only for staying in office and will gladly be the Republican Tool to have his seat held be A Republican candidate...

    Nuts.

  61. WC Says:

And reminds us again what political experience Bill Frist had prior to running for Congress in 1994?

I can answer that for you. Absolutely NONE. And he beat a 3-term incumbent.

And remind us again, Mr. Whatever, of the position in the Senate that Dear Mr. Frist currently holds?

For fun, per his web site bio:

He currently serves on the following committees: Finance; Rules; Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP). In the past, he has served on the following committees: Foreign Relations, Budget, Banking, Commerce, and Small Business. In 2001, he was named one of two Congressional representatives to the United Nations General Assembly.

Not bad for a nobody from Tennessee who had no political experience.

  62. kasinca Says:

Hey Tony McSnowjob, White House spokes liar, America doesn't buy into your Karl Rove lies anymore. We want out of Iraq which had nothing to do with 9/11. Joe Lieberman and Dubya were in office for the first one and they didn't help stop it. Go lie to the deliverance wing of the GOP, they are stupid enough to buy your lies and bullshit.

Vote democrat and take our government back from these thieves, liars, and cowards. Neo-Nazis must go.

  63. bklyndemocrat Says:

One thing that was interesting in watching Tony Snow today was that he kept talking about how the "far left wing" of the Democratic party was now (in his mind) in charge.

I didn't see the whole thing. But in what I did see he kept calling all of us "left" "left-wing" and "far-left."

What he didn't call anyone was "Liberal."

Could that be because the word "Liberal" is not thought by Rove and the gang to be insulting anymore?

If that's the case, then in one meaningful way we've already started to win.

  64. Killer Whale Says:

    What bullshit -

Fact: Mohamed Atta lived in HAMBURG, GERMANY before coming to the U.S. to execute the 9/11 plan.

Fact: He arrived via NEWARK AIRPORT from EUROPE.

Fact: The CIA says they monitored him in GERMANY.

Fact: Bombing the shit out of Iraq for 3 years prior to September of 2001 would have done nothing to stop Atta - because he and his group were not there.

Fact: If there is another group planning another 9/11 - they are probably smart enough not to be in Iraq either.

Lieberman has already seen how insulted the American people are with this type of bullsh#t - Snow and his crowd will find out next.

  65. JPV Says:

The Administration (not to mention Fox News) rushing to the aid of Lieberman is making it increasingly difficult for him to make himself out to be any sort of Democrat, even an “Independent Democrat.”

    Comment by Progressive Floridian — August 9, 2006 @ 3:00 pm

Lieberman's allegiance is not to the Democratic party or even to the US. He's an AIPAC shill that is primarily looking out for the interests of Israel.

    http://www.nybooks.com/articles/19062

At dinner that night, AIPAC Executive Director How- ard Kohr, as he does each year, read the "roll call" of dignitaries in attendance. It included a majority of the Senate, a quarter of the House, more than fifty ambassadors, and dozens of administration officials. Reciting the names took twenty-seven minutes in all, with each name greeted by a roar, the loudest going to Joe Lieberman.

  66. RUCerious Says:

Keep it up Tony YellowSnow. Every time you open your mouth the Dems get free advertising, with an election coming up in say, 3 months.
    go dog go.

  71. Flamethrower Says:

Ned should smack him down.......but hard.

  72. JMOHR Says:

So then, if the majority of the American people believe that Bush/Repubs have mismanaged the War in Iraq and no longer constitute a positive force in handling terrorism, then Snow would agree that even Republicans should vote against all Republican incumbents to send the message.

  73. mparker Says:

mighty aphrodite - liar, loser, fool and Cowardly jester of the blogosphere.

  74. DieNowForPeace Says:

Tony Snow is a LIAR. That's what they pay him for - lying.

You'd have to been functionally RETARDED to link Democrats and terrorist attacks after such a HORRIBLE response on 9/11 with a REPUBLICAN in the White House.

    Pure NONSENSE.

    And quit politicizing 9/11, WHORE-LIKE REPUBLICAN'TS.

You've paved your path to HELL by supporting your leaders "to hell with em" attitude.

Maybe by November the Dems will turn those Halliburton built "detainment" centers into housing for all the wingnuts, before they destroy the World. Or they could all move to the Green Zone. I hear it's "fabulous".

  75. David Carlisle Says:

You know, a Democratic administration could NEVER have milked a major security screw up of their own as effectively as the Republicans have used 9/11. Someday, Karl Rove's going to go down to the cave with chocolates, flowers and 77 specially selected Republican Committee virgins to tell OBL just how much he meant to him, because, man, they owe him.

  76. AnAmerican Says:

    " We ‘club them”

Pretending to be a soldier now? And hows that working out for ya?

  77. Godfry Daniel Says:

Sounds to me like the Bush administration is threatening to destroy more skyscrapers (and people) if you don't vote for them. Well, they did it before, they'll do it again...

It is because you scared little chicken hawks keep wetting the bed from being scared of the terrorists.

  80. OxyCon Says:

It's time for the Washington press corps to play the same game Tony Snowjob is playing, and throw it all back in his face with this:
"Tony, that sounds like the Fox News position".
"Do you still work for Fox News?"
"Tony, can you stop giving us the Fox News spin and start answering our questions with non-partison honesty?"
"Tony, that kind of crap works over at Fox News. But most Americans are smart enough to see through your partisan bullshit. So give it a rest."

  89. Buford Says:

This has come up before - how can the Bush administration, in the roles we taxpayers pay them to perform, legally use that perch to spout pro-Repug and anti-Dem rhetoric? How can Bush legally only appear at GOP-sponsored functions wherein non-GOP folks can be blocked from attendance (because the GOP rented the venue for a private function)?

Seriously - is it legal for elected officials to mix their taxpayer-funded roles with the political campaigning process to this degree? I thought there were pretty strict rules prohibiting Senators from using their offices for campaigning - if so, how can Snaow get a way with saying partisan things like this?

  90. citizen_pain Says:

I am sick and tired of people questioning our patriotism for standing up and speaking out!

Bush/Cheney and all the other Republicans who hide themselves behind the tragedy of 9/11 have got to get their heads out there asses and wake up to reality! Their political blame game is only so loud because they know 9/11 WAS THEIR FAULT

If you Republicans really care about the war against terrorism, then how about implimenting the 9/11 Commission findings?

If you care about Security, then how about funding border security instead of obstructing it?

If you care about our troops, then stop hiding behind them

9/11 happened on the Republican watch, and global terrorism and extremism have increased significantly on your watch

If you want the American people to believe you have any credibility in the War against terrorism, then show us the results... otherwise shut up, step aside, and let some competent people do the job

Report: Rove offered Bush's assistance in Lieberman campaign
    RAW STORY
    Published: Wednesday August 9, 2006
Karl Rove, a close advisor to the President, has expressed interest in assisting Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman in retaining his seat, despite a loss in the Democratic Primary last night, ABC News has reported.
Rove was, according to the report, acting on behalf of President Bush.
George Stephanopoulos, writing for the World Newser blog at ABC, wrote that a Lieberman aide had shared with the news agency a message from the White House: "The boss wants to help. Whatever we can do, we will do."

Bush's off-the-cuff, non-scripted remarks suggest that he has difficulty "mentally planning" his current move while doing nothing else. A burp in the worlds oil supplies from the middle east will make all ammenites here and abroad more costly ,which will adversely affect the worlds economies and seriously allienate the US from the rest of the planet .The threat of nuclear war remains a possibility ,as the mid easts oil reserves remain crucial to europe and the developing world .
Israel's behavior ,encouraged primarily by the US ,is certainly bound to inflame hostilities in Iraq as it decends into civil war and convince Iran ,of what can be expected through co operation with the US . The democracies of Lebanon and Palestine ,hung out to dry ,are now defunct ,as the Shia rise to battle the obvious injustices of Bush foreign policies in the region .

Unfortunately for them, the majority of the country is sick and tired of this administration, and bullying isn't going to change anything except to make people dislike them more.

No one said to reason with terrorist... THANK YOU for proving once again there is NO BOUNDS to the lies that the right are willing to tell to give the APPEARANCE that they have a clue....

REASON is not a tactic of war. REASON is a thinking technique... I know I know you dont get what I am saying ... but it has something to do with that thing in your head called a brain... when you use it you got two main choices... EGO/Emotional thinking or REASONED thinking.... Solving the issues presented to us can be solved with reasoning and reasoning NEVER leads a reasonable person to acting like a primitive tribal American taliban as your kind do....

REASON could have lead America to drop a nuke the day after 911... OR it could have lead to a "meeting of the minds" between all the worlds religious leaders brought together at Americas request specifically to find a solution to RADICAL RELIGIOUS FUNDAMENTALISM.... Christain... Judiasm.... Islam... Buddhism... etc... And it could have lead to many other outcomes... but we will NEVER have a REASONED response to the REAL LOGICAL ISSUES until we REMOVE the backwards American taliban from out republics government. Once that occures we can attack the problems we face with the same COLD LOGIC that allows the REALITY BASED world to create airplanes and computers and spaceships and electricity and America itself ... and ALL the other things that logical reasoned thought has given us and that EGOtistical and emotional rightwing NeoCon thinking has NEVER provided ... because they are incapable of HUMILITY and accepting when they are wrong so that another more correct view can take its place... . that is what science does and it is what the egotisitical right are unwilling to do because it hurts their poor little feelings so they let it turn into WAR and kill millions decade after decade after centrury after century after millineum after millineum.... CAVEMAN think is OUTDATED and it is time for it to GO AWAY....

  178. George Says:

Two can play this game. A vote for a Republican Bush supporter is a vote for a doofus lover.

  179. Yachts and Lattes Says:

I like that. Voting for a democrat who's opposed to this three-year fiasco makes us "weak on terror" retroactively all the way back to 1991. That's right out of 1984: "Oceania is at war with Eurasia; Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia."

I used to think Snow would be better than McClellan because at least he could put a few words together. Now I realize how dangerous he really is. This guy is worse than the Iraqi Minister of Information.

  180. June bug Says:

This is coming out of the White House? The White House is supposed to be above the fray and there for all Americans.

  182. Kermit the Freedom Frog Says:

MA’s use of a .50 caliber would explain why she can’t hit anything. Personally I prefer a .30-06, excellent accuracy, range and power.

    Comment by Krazny

Don't use the .50 unless you intend to take out vehicles at long range, and then only if you have a support team and don't need to move quickly and quietly. A modern .308 is the common choice (.30-06 if you're old fashioned), or a .300 if you need the extra kick.

Use the .50 if you are in a Hollywood action movie.

Sheesh, I thought conservatives were supposed to know their weaponry.

    Democrats abandon Lieberman, back Lamont

This is the current AP headline on Yahoo.com.... It certainly paints poor Joe as the victim of those terrible congressional Democrats. The liberal press continues to pick on the repubs. . . ops, this is actually picking on the Democrats who aren't willing to support Joe in his independent bid to keep his Democratic seat! I certainly hope no one gets the wrong impression from this headline!

  189. Coffins draped with flags Says:

It's the Bush administration that walked away from the persuit of Osama BinLauden. This Snowjob or snotjob is a liar and a traitor to democracy. The Bush Administration has allowed the Taliban to regroub in Afganistan so it is the Bush&Co that is weak on terror not the Democrats.

Can't trust Republicans to tell the truth.

  190. For Truth Says:

9/11 happened under Bush's watch, his failure to react appropriatly is his own responsibility. His failure to react appropriatly to the famous PDB "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the United States", is his own responsibility.

How much safer are we today?

Are the various related security agencies any more effective than 6 years ago?

Has the policy of preemptive war created more safety and security?

These are some basic questions we all need to honestly ask, and answer to ourselves.

  191. Coffins draped with flags Says:

Wasn't it during the Clinton administration that the blind cleric and his followers were captured and arrested for trying to blow up the WTC? Guess Clinton read the memo, unlike Bush who preferred cutting brush to reading memos, you know, doing his job, the hard job.

Just can't trust Republicans to keep American safe.

Bravo gerald! very, very well/reasoned/ and presented. However, wasted on MA. Such a poor excuse for a human ( and I am trying to be kind). He(there is no doubt) is sick and troubled. Instead of breaking out of its inferiority complex it plunges into the hate and non reasoned. How could a reasonable person "hate" Jimmy Carter? You can disagree with what he did or didn't do--but, "hate". MA is a hate filled human who is also a coward and has no idea what a noble person is. MA just a very sick person.

I live in Indiana, would have voted for Lamont, and don't take seriously the war on terror, mainly because a war on a tactic makes no sense and can never be won. However, I do take seriously the threat of terrorism. Mr. Snow should be reminded that before he passes judgment on who does or who doesn't take seriously his misguided notion of the terrorist threat that attacking a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 and thereby turning it into a terrorist haven, ignoring the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission in favor of tax cuts for the rich, selling our ports to a government known to harbor terrorists, and turning the Dept. of Homeland Security budget into a pork barrel where my state of Indiana is deemed to have more terrorist targets than New York State is hardly the height of responsible government. And I guess the Mayberry Machiavellis once again have forgotten 9/11 occurred on their watch.

This is so funny. Anyone that thinks the Bush Admin is an evil empire, is someone who would rather live in a communist country. Bush has done more to make our country safe than that last idiot who was President. Bush is doing his job. He isn't sitting in the White House getting sexual favors from interns. I guess anyone that hates Bush must be in a union. Union workers (workers used very losely) are those who HATE to see anyone work. They do anything to keep work kept to a bare minimum and still ask for more money and even less work. Sounds like Clinton is a great union man and Bush is the hated worker who actually earns his pay. Just how many more UN resolutions needed to be made about Saddam Hussein before someone actually carried out the punishment for not abidding by the resolution. Bush needed no more excusses except for the last resolution the UN made. Why doesn't anyone get that? We should all take a lesson from our failed policies of justice in this country. All a judge does now is tell a rapist and a murder to not do that again and then let's them go. That just tells that rapist and murder it is ok to do it again. I'll just be told not to do it again and be set free once more. We need to mean what we say and we really need to let anyone that threatens the safety of Americans know we aren't going to play games with them. Isn't it just disgusting that a rapist and murder can get set free on a technicallity or even less and yet if you get pulled over for not wearing a seat belt you will have to pay or go to jail? This world is very sick and it takes a good man like Bush to stand up for Americans and let these sick dictators know they aren't going to get away with any crap. Bush isn't perfect by any means but who is? He's doing the best he can and he's getting a lot of flack from those who really don't understand or even care that he's just doing the job he was elected to do. Unlike the liar that was President before him.... Bush will tell you what he will do and right or wrong he does it. I don't agree with Bush all the time but at least I know where he stands and what to expect. For that I have to respect him and so should all Americans. I guess it will take another attack for American's to really wake up and get someone like Bush who will do the right thing. What's really funny is.... that the same idiots bashing Bush for doing his job are the same ones that asked why he didn't do it sooner before we were attacked. Now that he is keeping another attack from happening the same idiots are trying to keep him from stopping another attack. Which is it people? Should he allow another attack or do his best to stop it? You can't have it both ways. All I can say is this..... vote for a fake peace by voting for a liberal and get attacked again and be forced into war or vote for someone who will defend this country before we are attacked so that we can have a lasting peace.

Four days before the meeting, Olmert told CNN that Iran's "technological threshold" is "very close." Did anybody see Hardball last night? Chris interviewed Ken Mehlman. He also brought up our withdrawal from Beirut in 1983 and said Osama had referenced that as one of the signs of America's weakness which ultimately led to 9/11; we all know who was president at that time.

Chris then asked Ken if he blamed Reagan for 9/11. Of course, he didn't.

Now, when the United States walked away, in the opinion of the Osama bin Laden in 1991, bin Laden drew from that the conclusion that Americans were weak and wouldn’t stay the course and that led to September 11th.

Clinton was no saint and thought with his pecker, but who among us---other than Dick Cheney and his minions who have the ability to conduct the ultimate insider trading--can say they are better off than they were 8 years ago?

#252 "...all you liberals are a terrorist supporting, anti- Americans ."

Terrorist supporting? It's the Republicans who have the romance with Osama Bin Ladin. They LOVE that guy because they really, really need him. The Republican leadership eat, drink and breath OBL and and no way are they going to catch him. Bin Ladin's the goose who lays the golden eggs for the Republicans. Without Bin Ladin, there's no Bush administration.
It's the Republicans, not the liberals, who continually milk the terrorism heifer to inspire fear because, with their record, they can't inspire loyalty. They haven't figured out that there's more to being an American than being afraid.

I question if snowjob realizes his job is to speak for the chimp in office and not to stand there rattling off what sounds like his own personal take on things. I don't ever remember him being elected to any office and I thought he said he did not have security clearance so how does he know so much about the "details" of which he speaks. This whole admin is a joke and a very bad one at that.

#215 -" Poor, poor mity. You have not grown any at all, have you??? Iranian crisis during Carter’s administration? If Smirkey McFlightSuit had been at the helm, he would have invaded…….you guessed it….IRAQ." - Comment by circusfifthfloor

******Dear Circus Clown - Thank you for your not so keen observations. I must be brief due to scheduling - but in a nutshell, conservatives send you a BIG THANK YOU!!! As amusing as you indoubtedly find this, permit me to explain.

It is apparent you and a myriad of your co-horts DO NOT or (FAIL to) understand the importance of Iraq in relation to IRAN. The Iran/Iraq War was in essence a Sunni v. Shiite conflict. Saddam, the erstwhile Sunni, persecuted the Shiite due to their sectarian affiliation with the Shiite leadership in Iran. FYI, Iran harbors the desire to control the vast majority of the Middle East and with it the flow of oil. Should the US abandon Iraq at this time, Iran would end up swallowing Iraq. Currently, as oil IS a vital ational interest, the position of the "Immediate timetable" crowd and "Cut and Run" Neddies is untenable. The patient, long-term goal of Iran is the basis of the radical Shiite militia attacks. For THIS reason, I am in favour of utilizing US oil resources and simultaneously developing alternative energy sources. The Republican Party and security conservatives need to spell the wider scenario out for remedial learners.

I used to admire the BIIIIIG ideas of liberals - until I realized it was ALL a charade. There are few, if ANY, "big picture" thinkers in the progressive movement today.

    Due in a meeting shortly...

The fact that the British used good, old-fashioned, "pre-9/11 styled" POLICE work, and INTELLIGENCE gathering, to disrupt what sounds like a very serious threat (unlike the bogus "Sears Tower plot" and the "New York tunnel plot" "foiled" here in the U.S.), PROVES that Bush's plan to "fight 'em over there, so we don't have to fight 'em over here" is just plain WRONG-HEADED.

The ONLY thing that "pre-emptive war" against nations that don't pose a threat to us accomplishes is to CREATE more terrorists.

INSTEAD of pouring billions and billions of dollars down the toilet in Iraq (to fight a terrorist threat that did not exist there before we invaded and occupied the Country), we should be spending billions of dollars to beef up our own police forces, and our own intelligence services, so that they can stop an attack from happening, too.

I am soooo tired of hearing how weak and peace-loving all of us Democrats are. I can just about guarantee, if pushed, most Dems would give you a thorough ass-kicking. I, personally, am not afraid of ANYONE. I can throw down with the best of them and I'm a woman. I believe if you kill someone, they should strap your happy ass to the electric chair and light it up. I own a gun and I'll be damned if anyone is going to take it from me. Push me and I'll push you back but........I'm not going to start it. Live and let live is my motto. You don't mess with me and I won't mess with you. I believe in a strong military to protect and defend our country. Don't send American jobs overseas, don't send American boys to die for a lie so the rich can get richer, don't tell me what I can or cannot do with MY body, don't listen in on my phone conversations without a warrant, don't monitor my e-mails without a warrant, in other words, DON'T trample on my rights!!! I'm sick to death of Democrats being portrayed as wimps because WE answer the call to serve our nation. We don't get 5 deferments or have our influential daddy get us into an elite champagne unit to then go AWOL. You've listened to them for so long, you've forgotten that we're your neighbors, co-workers and even members of your family. We have so much more in common than we do differences but you won't let yourself see that. We are ALL Americans and we ALL want to be safe in our lives. We want to be able to earn a decent wage so we can support our families. We don't want to have to worry about getting sick and losing everything because we can't pay for medical treatment. The American dream of owning a home is so out of reach for some people, it's just that, a dream. This country is going in the WRONG direction, most people agree with that so stop making generalizations about people.

  250. Horseman Says:

OldSchool, you hit the nail on the head and shed light on why the need to keep the population in fear. Osama's gonna get me, Osama's gonna get me!
That cowards sit in the Oval Office and let the soldiers do their bidding is incredible. That sick spin bastards like Snow, Coulter, O'Reilly and Hannity defend it makes me think of an easier time, when such traitorous acts were dealt with in more harsh terms.

  251. DemocratGiftShop Says:

9/11 happened because George W. Bush let it happen. And instead of going after the real enemy, he decided to attack Iraq (were more than one instance show that Iraq had on connection with 9/11). So even after 5 years, since the attack there are more terrorist and instability in the Middle East. That what good ol' George gave us. He basically saw a stain and tried to clean it with crap. So in the end, it will be the Democrats to clean up the mess (as usual).

Horseman, I'm not afraid of Osama. I'm afraid of a corrupt government that is slowly, but methodically, stripping us of our right to free speech by making dissent un-patriotic. I'm afraid of the "liberal media" that is more than happy to distort the truth and repeat the propaganda until it's ingrained in people's minds (Osama=Al Qaida=Saddam). I'm afraid of a government that has been willing to sacrifice our leadership in medicine, technology and research just to pacify their extreme fringe. (I really don't believe that the majority of Republicans are opposed to stem cell research.) I've always believed that Americans are THE most creative and resourceful people on the planet. When we are challenged, we can ALWAYS rise up to meet the challenge. We put a man on the moon because WE decided that we could do it and we did. We are no longer being challenged as Americans. We are being divided by petty differences and hatred. That's what's scary.

Snow's warning, that Lieberman's defeat could lead to another 9/11 means that another (phony) 9/11 is planned. Anohter T Attack could doom the anti-war

  257. Lee Franklin Says:

Connecticut woke up the New Cons who found their panties in a twist! Their automatic reaction is to drag out 911 and see if it still has any power over the sheeple.

Isn't the real trouble with their tactic just this? If there are no more 911's people will stop being so afraid. If there is another 911 people just might notice that the "War on Terra" isn't working too well.

How much juice is left in the 911 bottle, Snowjob? Better look out, it's running dry. It's going to be real tricky to fill it back up again, isn't it?

"how come you keep supporting things that help terrorists and keep pushing ideals that Americans don’t want?"
-those two are lies, the first one is a lie you are reapeating that you heard from the Administration.

"all you liberals are a terrorist supporting, anti- Americans"
-first one is a lie, factless, baseless...go ahead and try to explain yourself!...go ahead....try....second one is a lie, it makes no sense, try to explain yourself, back your thoughts with facts and data like Liberals can.

mity, you evidently knee jerk before you react. Let's review. I'll go sloooow. I stated that Smirkey would have invaded the wrong country back in '79. Yes we, you and I should be diligent and tenacious in tracking down the real criminals and punish them soundly. Wolfowitz and Cheney were told Bin Laden were the threat in early 2001 and they told Richard Clark to back off, because they were interested in Iraq. What part of this don't you understand? They lost the scent before the crime and sent the dogs after the wrong fox. If we had stayed the "right" course, we may have had many of these creeps buried by now. But oh hell no, and here we are in the back seat of a runaway car, just asking the driver to show a little common sense. _Pedal to the metal in the wrong direction....Yea, Yea, I know, I'm some commie pinko fag. 268. Nikita Sergeyevich Says:

    Comrades,

A vote for Lamont is a vote for our party! But forget about that for now! It is imperative the we focus on ABC’s “The Path to 9/11”

These traitors at ABC are betrayers of our new mother land. Where I come from, this Robert A. Iger would be dragged through the streets in front of the tomb of our glorious leader Vladimir Lenin and shot in public. The producers, directors, writers and anyone associated with this propaganda would be picked up in the early hours of the morning by our State Security Chief Lavrenty Beria (The Black Hand) and taken to a Siberian labor camp never too be heard from again.

For many years I have been loyal to ABC and the Pravda (truth) that our Socialist Liberal ally has put forth in order to progress our ultimate goal; the decline and absolute destruction of America and the capitalist traitorous pig’s like ABC.

I ask you Mr. Robert A. Iger, “Have you no shame Sir”?

Comrades, we must not give up the fight. It has taken us many years to groom you and your elected leaders.

Remember what our great leader Nikita Khrushchev said:

“ We can't expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism "

It’s more important now then ever before that we stand together and stay focused! We can not allow this abomination of propaganda to go forward.

We must do whatever it takes to keep this film from airing on Sunday the 10th, 2006, we only have a few hours left.

It is your duty as loyal Liberal Socialist Democrats to rise up in solidarity and put a stop to this immediately!

Senator Harry Reid, one of our courageous and distinguished Senatorial leaders from the state of Nevada, reminded the capitalist traitorous pigs at ABC of their license from the FCC. Please Senator Reid, we’re your loyal comrades in arms and begging you to use all the glorious power you possess. You must stop this film! You must push forward with an iron fist and crush this despicable display of propaganda.

If this film isn’t stopped from airing on ABC, Sunday night, I’m afraid all our efforts since the cold war and the aspirations of our great leaders from glorious years past and Nikita Khrushchev’s dreams and predictions will have been lost.

If we loose now, the great Liberal Socialist Democratic Party, we have nurtured, will decline into the ash heaps of history never too be heard from again.

You must!.... I repeat, you must contact our comrades in arms at their offices in Washington.

Now I’ve done all the work all you have to do is contact our comrades below by e-mail or call:
