“Israel, meanwhile, flew hundreds of commandos into southern Lebanon on Saturday, tripling its troop strength to 30,000 and sending some army units as far as the Litani River even as both sides indicated they would accept a U.N. cease-fire plan to stop the heavy fighting,” the AP reports.
Does this mean that Condi Rice and George W. Bush and the Bush/Coulter Republican Party negotiated with Hizbollah terrorists to stop this war?
-GSD
August 12th, 2006 at 3:45 pmtripling its (Israelis) troop strength to 30,000 – - If Rummy had conducted this war he’d have done it on the cheap with 300 troops. And there’d be no end in sight.
August 12th, 2006 at 3:47 pmDamn nice of them to give everyone a 7AM wake up call. So the refusal to negotiate until Hezbollah was destroyed ended with a whimper, and as predicted military action AGAIN FAILS TO END A TERRORIST THREAT.
August 12th, 2006 at 3:48 pmHurry, Israel! You’ve got to maximize your illegal and immoral land-grab while you still have time! It’s imperative that you take and control all land south of the Litani…after all, those Israeli swimmiing pools aren’t going to fill themselves!
August 12th, 2006 at 3:50 pmThis go in with ground forces crap is pretty much backfiring on Israel. Who would have known Hezbollah has anti-tank rockets and surface to air heat seeking missles and would neutralize Israeli tanks and at least helicopters.
August 12th, 2006 at 3:53 pmCondi for a Nobel Peace Prize and a new pair of shoes!
August 12th, 2006 at 4:01 pmDoes this mean that after Monday, the fighting will be “light”–just rifles and knifes?
August 12th, 2006 at 4:10 pmYeah and how many more Lebanese children will be slaughtered before 7am Monday?
August 12th, 2006 at 4:17 pmSo, what’s Yiddish for “Mission Accomplished”?
August 12th, 2006 at 4:21 pmHow hypocritical is it for us to tell them to stop bombing?
Well, if the Bush Regime can understand the words ‘cease fire’, why can’t they practice them in Iraq?
I guess it’s okay for a “third world” country to “cut and run”… Such transparent hypocrites.
August 12th, 2006 at 4:22 pmNo dixie the far-right religious fanatics are claiming the end of the world occurs on August 22, 2006, so 10 days from now? Why that date? I guess Bush nukes Iran on the 22nd?!
August 12th, 2006 at 4:40 pmSo by acknowledging this timetable, does Israel realize that they have emboldened Hezbollah?
August 12th, 2006 at 4:41 pmJay,
August 12th, 2006 at 4:47 pmAugust 22, huh?
So I guess I better forget about buying that big-screen TV? :)
Alot can happen between now and Monday, 7AM Israeli time, so maybe Israel will fire a missile or drop a bomb on Syria, then the whole ceasefire deal ends in flames?!
August 12th, 2006 at 4:49 pmPost 18 trueblue > that date is popping up on all the far-right blogs, and whispered by Pat Robertson, so something nasty is planned for the 22nd of August > I do not understand the significance of that date, but maybe it has some Kabalic mystical meaning? Break the numbers down: August is 8th month of 6th year of the new century and 22nd day, so maybe you add the numbers together to get 36 and then divide by some number > who knows it gives me a headache, because Bush is so damn dumb he could do anything on the 22nd, and he would believe any crap Pat Robertson told him to justify it too!
August 12th, 2006 at 4:56 pmYa’ know, Jay,
August 12th, 2006 at 5:00 pmI think I’m more afraid of the Evangelicals than I am of terrorists…
Red Wolf lol that date is mentioned by the far right crazies in the US, so maybe they are in touch with the president of Iran?! I know nothing about that date other than far right fanatics mentioning it!
August 12th, 2006 at 5:02 pmtrueblue I am going nowhere on the 22nd now that Red Wolf mentions that date too > perhaps the day will slip by unnoticed, but I am cautious!
August 12th, 2006 at 5:06 pmDon’t forget your “Rapture Helmets”!
August 12th, 2006 at 5:09 pmYou’re in Atlanta, so you’ll be OK. I’m 80 or so miles from Boston (Dirty Liberal State!!) so I guess I better get going on that bomb shelter!
Well Red Wolf then you confirm that Bush probably nukes Iran on the 22nd, when the Mahdi is proclaimed I suppose? This sounds like the movie Dune now! Give me a Tylenal please!
August 12th, 2006 at 5:11 pmKnow something, Red Wolf,
I would rather paint a huge bullseye and hang it over my house than to be lorded over by the Evangelicals.
…ha! “lorded over”! I didn’t even mean that to be funny……..
August 12th, 2006 at 5:12 pmSorry, Dixie,
August 12th, 2006 at 5:14 pmI posted and then saw your post re: troll alert.
I’m with you.
I shall from this moment on ignore said troll.
Red Wolf do not be so smug > some incoming nuke might misfire and land on your dirt poor village in the Ozarks > lol.
August 12th, 2006 at 5:15 pmYes troll alert, but at least Red Wolf confirmed the August 22nd date for us!
August 12th, 2006 at 5:16 pmI will be back later > have to go shopping for groceries > will get extra supplies since all hell breaks out on the 22nd > bye all!
August 12th, 2006 at 5:18 pmYeah, let’s not mourn all the dead innocent children to be killed between now and 7AM, let’s bemoan “liberals”. Somebody’s got their head screwed on straight. And the smoldering Israeli tanks and downed helicopter give Hezbollah what they were looking for – they have become the legends that fought the Israelis to a standstill. This will embolden Israel’s enemies, because maybe they aren’t as tough as they used to be.
August 12th, 2006 at 5:24 pmAh, it is interesting how the Bush/Coulter Republicans love every new terrorist attack and threat. They must hate America, they salivate whenever there is a whiff of a report of an attack.
Notice how many Iraqis using Saddams’ WMD’s were captured in this latest terror attack!
No wait, they were English. I thought democracies didn’t produce terrorists?
Notice how this latest alleged attack was rolled-up using tanks and missiles and divisions of troops occupying foreign nations. No, wait that didn’t happen either.
Notice how the Bush/Coulter Republicans have FLIP-FLOPPED and have been working with…..gulp…THE FRENCH! and gulp…THE U.N.!
-GSD
August 12th, 2006 at 5:32 pm#45 – too late, the Press around the world, including CNN are reporting that Hezbollah has done what every other country Israel has fought has been unable to do, stop them in their tracks. AND the rockets keep firing across into Israel, and innocent people on both sides continue to die for no good reason. Israel will not “wipe out Hezbollah” before some arbitrary Monady 7AM deadline so as expected hezbollah wins. You can’t fight terrorists with military action, they go into the woodwork and hide and come out after you leave, and they kill more people.
August 12th, 2006 at 5:33 pmHey, Lefties how about those fake photos?

Let’s go to the record:
That’s the irony if the Islamic-Fascists hit the US it will be the Leftists cities like NY that will be hit. Hense they’ll be killing their own allies. Ha that’ll be funny!

August 12th, 2006 at 5:39 pmHeckuva job Ehud Olmert. Single handedly dashed the “myth” of the all powerful Israeli military machine.
Israel was able to destroy most of the Arab military in 6 days back in ‘67. Now they have been fighting “3,000″ terrorists for a month and they are still fighting as hard as they were the first day.
Arabs have gotta realize that Israel will never be “wiped off the map” and Israel has to realize that their “invincibility” isn’t a sure bet anymore.

August 12th, 2006 at 5:41 pm#59, how many bedrooms you got? 20 million of us – gonna need a lotta rooms, and do you have any tortillas? We can bring the refried beans and the cheese, but we need like 40 million tortillas or more every meal. How are you set for tortillas?
August 12th, 2006 at 5:42 pmRed Wolf,

August 12th, 2006 at 5:52 pmWell red Stool, I’m just saying you seem to be putting on airs because we 20 million Mexicans are just beaners looking for a place to stay and work and you’re better than US because you’re a Cubano?

August 12th, 2006 at 6:18 pmWhy are the righties always going on about being over run? If every country in the world ganged up on America and tried to invade they would all die. And their homelands would all be nuked… Remember MAD still stands.
What are the arabs going to do? Invent futuristic space age weapons that the Russians and Americans could only dream of and take our nukes and the rest of our arsenal out?
No the righties are just wussies… they always have been.
August 12th, 2006 at 6:24 pmIt’s nice that Israel will have finished killing innocent woman/children by 7am. I noticed not many military men from Hezbollah have been killed. Well now it’s time for the United States to help pay for the rebuilding of Israel. Our Congress has to pass a bill that will allow the rebuilding of the damage done by Lebanon. As for Lebanon well their on their own. America supports Israel and what ever they need to put things back to where they were is what has to be done. Now it’s a good friend. It’s not like we don’t have the money. All the contractors that the Bush government approved have just taken the money and done nothing. All Bush has to do is raise the spending level which I’m sure the new US Treasury Secretary would have no problem with doing.
August 12th, 2006 at 6:27 pmMoney is the reason for must of the Bush policy just make sure the corrupt Administration is protected.
bones: That’s ok. He is a racist and I am not a Muslim so his shots missed. Like Cheney trying to shoot quail…..

August 12th, 2006 at 6:32 pmWe encouraged our lap dog in the region to demolish a moderate newly democratic Arab government and then we aren’t going to help rebuild that democratic moderate Arab government/country. Isn’t that what Chimpy and Trickie Dickie cheney said we would do in Iraq and that would lead to democracy flourishing across the Middle east? So if repairing a country makes democracy flourish, does not fixing what our lap dog broke make democracy wither?
August 12th, 2006 at 6:32 pm#89, me too, I hope someone noticed.
August 12th, 2006 at 6:33 pmIsrael and the US was able to use force to get the UN Security Council to capitulate and get the UN to finally do its job. Passing UN resolutions without troops to back them up are worthless. Now, Israel and the US has forced the UN to work as it is supposed to.

Not sure what you are trying to imply, but whatever. Liberals can’t debate points, so you have to demonize and belittle your opponent, so that others won’t hear any information that might dissuade them from your propaganda.

Right Wing going ga-ga over the NSA

Glenn Greenwald easily debunks the right wing silliness over the NSA warrantless program. Legal surveillance, not illegal eavesdropping, stopped the U.K. terrorist attacks. The WSJ offers up no proof, but the wingers fall in line.

August 12th, 2006 at 7:57 pmAm I the only person who doesn’t care who “wins”? I want the killing to stop; the dead on both sides always lose. Enough!
August 12th, 2006 at 7:59 pm#100, Red Wolf,
Although it is tempting to retreat from debate and take care of yourself, I believe that the Republicans are actually winning, in spite of the left generated public opinion polls, which are always dismissed after the Republican wins the election. John Bolton is pounding the UN, forcing it to work the way it should, as witnessed by the UN being forced to disarm Hezbollah with 15,000 troops, and not mere finger wagging. Afghanistan and Iraq are still free democratic nation, in spite of some violence, with 10’s of millions of their citizens voting for the first time.
I am far more hopeful that the extreme measures of progs and libs are further moving the Democratic Party out of the mainstream. The only people that progressive candidates can beat are incumbent Democrats, which isn’t saying much, since they haven’t held federal power this century.
August 12th, 2006 at 8:05 pm#102, Publicus,
As Condoleeza Rice said, if you don’t have the right conditions in a cease fire, it will only lead to more deaths later on. This cease fire resolution will put both Lebanese and UN troops in southern Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah per a previous UN resolution, so THIS cease fire is the right approach to remove the root cause of the problem.
August 12th, 2006 at 8:07 pmI believe that the Republicans are actually winning,
Yeah, Jason, and you also believe that a science fiction writer without any scientific credentials whatsoever knows more than the entire body of real scientists. Not much of a track record for being right, is it?
Pathetic.
August 12th, 2006 at 8:50 pmOh, and don’t you have a “masters” degree from Stanford in something or other, Jason? You’re a real big shot. Maybe you should claim to be a scientist! Then everyone will start believing you.
August 12th, 2006 at 8:52 pmRemember, RealScientist…that’s the “ivy league” Stanford. Apparently Jason can add ‘travelling to other realities’ to his already impressive list of credentials.
Perhaps in the alternate reality that Jason id from, where Stanford is an “ivy league” university, Michael Crichton is a climatologist, and the Republicans are actually winning. That would explain a lot.

August 12th, 2006 at 9:41 pmI posted this in an earlier thread. It fits perfectly here.
From José Steingler (translation by me) :}
7 fallacies from the ticket-master dominant speech:
1. Israel acts on self-defense
Wrong: From its creation, Israel wants to take over the waters of Litani river, located on the south of Lebanon. To acomplish that, he needs a puppet government in Beirut.
2. Israel is the only nation in the world that is wished to be erased from the map
Wrong: In more than a decade, groups in countries like East Timor, Kurdistan (?), Yugoslavia, Russia, Irak, Palestine, Afghanistan and Lebanon were erased into oblivion.
3. Lebanon was bombed because Hezbollah kidnapped two jewish soldiers.
Wrong: The “road of Damascus†and plans from a “New Middle East†made by Washington and Tel Aviv were not thought last night and they seek the dominance of Beirut.
4. Dead people are the result of a game dictated from Iran and Syria.
Wrong: Dead people are the result of Israel bombings and the popular resistance led by Hezbollah, insurgent nationalist movement and lebanese political party.
5. The dream of “the Great Syria†is still going.
Wrong: the dream of people from Levante is surviving and coordinating fights against terrorism that Israel and US conducts globally and in the region.
6. The Hebrew State has less economic resources than its neighbors.
Wrong: Israel is in the 16th place of the richest countries in the world, with a higher rent per capita than the one of its neighbors, including Saudi Arabia. From 1949 to 1998 the aid received from US added up to $84 billions. Jets, choppers, fuel, GBU-28 bombs and other kind of weapons (some of them are experimental) are supplied by US. But the media dont talk about this. They talk about the rusty Katiushka missiles fired by Hezbollah.
7. The silence of the nations that allowed the arming of Hezbollah is the source of the conflict.
August 12th, 2006 at 9:48 pmWrong: the source of the “conflict†is the hypocresy, complicity and silence of the so called “free worldâ€.
8 Million Israelis will be burned by Nuclear power and the Internation Left will cheer!

August 12th, 2006 at 10:28 pmIt’s also off topic, but it’s heartbreaking and needs to be read by as many people as possible.
Juan C: He appears to be a soldier of the 101 keyboardists. Sure behaves like one. There are lots of them around all over the non-Republican blogs. You can’t really blame them because all the telemarketer jobs have been outsourced. A man’s got to make a living, right?
August 12th, 2006 at 10:31 pmI think the real sad part, is the fact that instead of winning the war on terrorism, the US and it’s allies are creating more “terrorist” by giving more bombs to israel creating chaos in iraq, without a plan to pull the troops out, secure the country, or even implement the rule of law, democracy…ha ha that’s funnycontinued presents of us troops on the holy land of Islamand what ever happened to Somalia, ohh yea we’d rather watch american idle re-runs then even care what happens in Africa
Look i understand why people like brown wolf are so afraid of Islam, or anything foreign for that matter. It’s because their ignorant, self obsessed, and ultimately selfish. They don’t want you to actually look at Muslims as real people, it’s a technique pioneered by both the nazi’s and the US propaganda organizations of WWII. Don’t worry Red Skeleton/wolf the bloggers of this forum are children of fact, history, and truth, we won’t so easily be swayed by propaganda and lies. But ya know, if you ever want to step up to the plate and debate, and (here’s a thought) actually learn something about the entire world around you, then be my guest. If not, then you can suffocate among the whords of the zombie like mob.
August 12th, 2006 at 10:32 pmComment by Fishnchips — August 12, 2006 @ 10:32 pm
Exactly right. We have been conditioned to demonize and objectify the “enemy” to enable us to unconsciously think of “it” as a dangerous beast that must be killed. That kind of training enables our kids from good Christian families kill the “enemy” without any moral hang-ups. I don’t care who you are, murder is never easy and always very traumatic. That is where these terms like “Charlie” and “Hajji” come from.
All this nonsense about a WWIII, a Muslim Caliphate, a Shia Crescent, Rule of Islam all over the world, a mega beast called Al Qaeda etc comes from. The powers that be want us to think of the “enemy” as a single monolithic army. Once that happens, it is very easy to convince the population that this huge monster must be killed.
Nothing about this one single huge enemy is real. The Hezbollah, the Palestinians, Bin Laden and the Iraqis all have separate distinct problems with us and their own reasons for fighting us. To win this thing we have to address each problem separately and trying to killing all Muslims, even if THAT was possible, is the wrong and suicidal thing to do.

Changing the pseudo name “Red Wolf” to “brown wolf” was racist? I don’t see how. I thought it was a snaky thing to do but aren’t you overreacting just a tad? I am sure he did not mean it in the sense of a “sand ni**er†or anything close to that.

Abby, sorry. My guess is that he did exactly that. He bolded the words.
August 12th, 2006 at 11:38 pm1.The point is you’re all naive. – No you are for thinking that you’re the only thinking individual on the planet and you’re always right.
2.Islam is like Nazism – No you’re wrong again. Look up Islam and Nazism in an encyclopedia and come back with facts about how these two very different concepts are “the same”
3.It’s just confirm the hopelessness of Western Civilazation – wrong, most advanced civilization on the planet so far, may not last but best human race has done yet
4.You guys are ignorant of Islamic history. Wrong again, no we are not.
5.You guys call Bush a Fascist well, he aint. – wrong again, he is look up the definition of Fascism.
6.Only a Fascist-Nastionalist movement can save this country. – wrong again since that would violate the constitution essentially destroying the country.
7.If it arises watch out, you’ll miss the good ol days of Bush. – wrong again, none of us will ever miss Bush even if we all end up in front of firing squads.

August 13th, 2006 at 12:52 amNicholas Kristof tells us what the difference is between Bill Clinton’s foreign policy and George W. Bush’s:
“Mr. Clinton and Mr. Bush offer us a nice test case of alternative approaches to dealing with rogue regimes — engagement and deal-making in the case of Mr. Clinton, and confrontation and isolation in the case of Mr. Bush. So let’s look at how well each approach worked.”
August 13th, 2006 at 1:00 amShit, no one could have predicted that Hezbolla would have all those missiles!

I did see what you said about Maxine Waters. You amaze me, too. Go figure people, ann, they watch American Idol and think it’s real.
August 13th, 2006 at 1:13 amDouobtful.
August 13th, 2006 at 1:16 amA war can end with occupation only when one side surrenders. Since that has not happened here there will be no end to the war at 7AM Monday. Fighting will continue south of the Latani River. Perhaps the rocket will stopped being fired in both directions but that may not last more than a day or so, depending on other military operations. But one thing is won’t be is the end of the war.
August 13th, 2006 at 1:20 amI bet Israel reneges on the ceasefire agreement Sunday night, so this so-called deal is just to buy some more time! A REAL ceasefire would end hostilities on both sides immediately!
August 13th, 2006 at 1:31 amIsrael is trying to create more refugees to torment, duh………..
August 13th, 2006 at 4:24 amIt’s useless arguing with you guys all I have to say is by your actions and whines you will create a counter movement remember when Death Squads come knocking on your door 5 years from now.

Yes, and you will have “saved” American democracy from the islamofascists by morphing into the SS? Lovely.

Ah, plunger – why would you come on a blog and publish a novel? The point of a blog is a short direct comment or response. Novels are saved for publication, and most if not all blog readers are turned off by posters that leave LONG diatribes.
August 13th, 2006 at 7:45 am#168 thats a very insightful and accurate post. The US and its proxy Israel are indeed terrorist nations as defined by the term.
August 13th, 2006 at 10:13 am#117, Fish,
Oppressive regimes create terrorists, not foreign powers. Since America helped Afghanistan and Iraq become Democracies, the single greatest cause – disenfrachisement within oppressive regimes – is gone. Libya gave up their nuclear program. Syria has pulled out of Lebanon, and Hezbollah is going to be suppressed by 15,000 UN troops.
These things should spark hopes within the youth of the region, not dispair.
August 13th, 2006 at 10:19 amDear Israeli Nation: Could you end the war at 7:30 instead of 7?
August 13th, 2006 at 10:47 amI don’t finish my workout until 7:20.
Thanks
Oppressive regimes create terrorists, not foreign powers.
Wrong, I’m afraid. The world is not hermetically compartmentalised into discrete units. Again, this is clear cut problem in your thinking, and a recurrent theme. You seem incapable of seeing connections, relating cause and effect and seeing the bigger picture. Much like that idiot president of yours.
Oppression, regardless of it’s source creates terrorists.
Your government is currently the primary cause of oppression in the worlds most volatile region. Guess what the effect of that will be?
August 13th, 2006 at 12:10 pmLooks like the violence has been stepped up between Israel and Hezbollah — gotta get in as much killing before 7 a.m., er, 7:30….
That’s funny tablogloid. I’m sure they’ll make the requested new deadline.

We are not the one’s suggesting a “final solution” for anyone. The only true fascist, if the term is to have any meaning at all, is you. Hung by your own petard as they say.
Take the bone out of your nose, and try again.
August 13th, 2006 at 1:48 pmit’s money and power. That’s what counts in life!

Sadly, it’s because there are people like this in the world that we need a military at all.

August 14th, 2006 at 3:08 amI’ll admit that I am somewhat pessimistic about Israel’s commitment to uphold their end of the cease-fire agreement. I’m sure they will have a really good excuse for having to start up again, though. “There we were, occupying Southern Lebanon, minding our own business, when all of a sudden…” I won’t mind being mistaken, and I will of course admit it, should they exceed my expectations, gladly. And so I wait…
August 14th, 2006 at 7:43 amMy 10 year-old kid had already figured out that Israel would have dropped the hammer on Lebanon just before the cease-fire would begin, and that is exactly what happened. Predictably, the UN will come in, Israel will feign interest in another round of the now amusing “Peace Process”, which it will surely find a way to wiggle out of by making outrageously unrealistic disarmament demands of Hezbollah, as it did with Hamas. Next, they will find some way to provoke their neighbors and continue their putsch into other soverign countries in the ME. It is now clear for the world to see that Israel does not truly want peace, and hopefully, their hunger for eternal war and bloodshed will be granted in a big way, soon. I am optimistic that the Lebanese people are resolute and strong enough to promptly begin to begin the enormous task of rebuilding their lives and cities, as a show of defiance to the restlessly belligerent goliath in their midst.
