Never been here before, was bored and had read all of news and opinion I could digest in one day, but was vainly hoping for any news that Lieberman would do the honorable and honest thing and withdraw from the race. It’s nice to find a site where those I generally agree with are getting their voices together.

I agree with all those clamoring for Russ in ‘08 for all the same reasons: consistency, clarity, a functioning moral compass, courage. As far as the Senator from New York is concerned, an idyllic fantasy would be for the voters in that state that would have been Lamont voters to continue to develop the effective refutation of the Bush agenda that seems to be gaining clarity. One thing that it is no longer necessary to do is to use derogatory, satirical, and baiting speach. I know it’s hard to give up, they just make it so easy, and they make us all so angry. I’ve done plenty of it myself, and I’m trying to clean up my act.

It’s no longer necessary becuse the arguments that can be made are compelling, and the failure of the Administration and their supporters is becoming starkly obvious. (See, I could have said “enablers” there but that would be baiting.) In keeping with this mood I have a comment that I hope Senator Clinton would hear: I voted for your husband twice, I thought I understood you and I respected you for many years. You especially Senator, and I am a middle class middle-ged man. Now I no longer think I know you, and doubt what you say you believe in. You seem to triangulate your every opinion statement based on the latest polling, and you are never out front on any issue. If those who used to be your supporters no longer trust you, what chance do you think you really have of surviving the Republican campaign apparatus in 2008? I’ll tell you now with certainty and finality; zero to none.

Sorry to run on like this. A comment early on where I picked up this string made me aware that I completely missed the ancestral significance of “Feingold.” Is he Jewish? Who cares? His words and his actions have proven that he is a true patriot, and we hope that we also detect the emergence of a true statesman. Can anyone summarize Senator Feingold’s positions and votes on the decades old Israeli/Palestinian conflict?

You all seem to be all up in arms over “Joe’s” defeat. You realize of course, that Lamonst BARELY won, by less than 4% of the votes cast. In a general election, you will have MANY more people voting, and again I think Lamont ius going to get blown away. A victory of less than 11000 out of over 280000 viters is not that huge, especially when one considers that it does not include all the registered voters who will vote in the general election, and could not vote in the primaries due to party affiliation.

As soon as Joe knew he had lost the primary, that he dumped the entire Democratic party, and announced his intention to run as an Independant candidate. Poof, just like that, he was over it. douglas g: lieberman had no passion as the vp candidate in 2000 and wouldn’t drop his senate bid – total self-interest. now that he’s threatened and might lose his senate plantation priveleges, look at his passion. again, total self-interest. i know all i need to know about holy joe.

furthermore, more dems will vote for lamont in the general election than in the primary (exit polls had the split at about 61-39, a gap i expect to widen). joe didn’t even win his home town — or his home precinct — not a good sign.

mike: it sounds as if you think this site is a waste of time. you’re certainly free to leave. to stick around and mock something that you think is useless would pretty much be the definition of idiocy.

incidentally, bush sucks. the harsh reality will dawn on you one day.

moderate: glad you’ve bought into the “lamont’s a rich, one-issue candidate” lark. lieberman could just as easily fit that bill. he outspent lamont 2-1 in the primary (which would pretty much nullify the “lamont’s buying a senate seat” argument), and the one issue as far as joe is concerned is “I MUST KEEP MY SENATE SEAT, VOTERS BE DAMNED”. lamont is running on national healthcare and education also.

i must add that i’m no democrat, but i certainly don’t want anyone building bridges with today’s republican party, who have shown clearly that they have no interest in reciprocating. in that respect, joe is merely the republicans’ useful idiot. we need an opposition that’s going to actually, you know, oppose. i am absolutely sick of the status quo.

a true moderate would want to negate the obvious rightward tilt our government has taken on in the last decade. just a reminder.
