August 15th, 2006 at 1:08 pmThis is the very ‘cart before the horse’ type of article that creates reality instead of reinforcing it.
Instead of backing up events that have happened, this article projects what WILL happen. This in and of itself isn’t all that sinister. But in an age such as this where information is power, articles like this can help mold and shape what will be through suggestive reasoning. For example: a voter reads that since they can’t (or won’t) get a new photo ID, they cannot vote, so they don’t bother. They don’t bother to rectify their own personal issues and do what is needed to be able to vote. Thus, the article becomes a self-fufilling prophecy of what reality truly is.
We cannot allow the practices noted in this article to stand, true. But we also must not allow articles such as these mold reality. That makes the people writing the articles (and the people who decide what articles are written, wink wink) the keepers of reality. And I do not trust such lofty power to such bungling idiots.

The most blatant and latest examples, though, have been via the Republican party in places like Florida and Ohio. Why are they so scared to let qualified people vote? Are they happy that the fewer people that vote the more often it is that their candidates get elected? I wouldn’t be too proud of that.
August 15th, 2006 at 1:11 pmIn 2004, Texas, I registered to vote at one of the local stands at the mall. I checked a month later and found out I was never registered. I suspect they threw away my registration because I listed as a democrat.
Found out later that the booth was run by the local republican party, even though they did not have any sign stating that at the table.
I made a complaint and registered again, luckily in time for that election. As far as I know, nothing came of the complaint I filed.
I was lucky I found out before it was too late, others were not able to vote because they found out too late

The more I read what the founding fathers actually wrote, the more astounded I am about their intelligence, fund of information, insight, and foresight. We Americans are so very lucky to have their work as the basis of our government. Now, if we can only keep our democracy, as (with typical insight) Benjamin Franklin warned us about.

This is not WILL happen.. this is what IS happening RIGHT NOW… I live in Indiana.. and indeed they have made certain things like using banks and getting licenses very difficult always wanting more ID… In addition this summer there has been a crazy problem going on with the DMVs NEW computer system system they decided to put in and they are actually asking people to NOT come to the DMV because of the computer problems only have a couple offices in the state able to handle them. There are many poor people that have never been fired up enough to vote before and when they find out it will cost them about $50 for birth certificates and photo IDs etc… they just spend the money on something else like bills instead of voting.
It is correct to try to keep voting clean, but the timing is fishy and the methods used seem to be more about the methods used than making the voting process better in a realistic way.

Great, I found the birth certificate. Now all I have to do is search the government sites to see if I lost my right to use it as part of my ID even though the names don’t match. Could be attached to the Dubi ports deal that was denied and in use any way….Or maybe on the medicare bill that gave millions to HMO’s and Pharmacudical and get’s to charge me more to pramote their mess..Hummmmm. I recall that in March, when I mentioned that during the primary election, I was told that I was misinformed and ignorant.
Unfortunately, with the machines already purchased and planned for usage in November, what choice do people have?

I don’t think calling out crazy extremists and their opinions is unfair or balanced. That’s kind of the point of being a moderate. I’m not a full friend of either side, but I seem to be a full enemy of both. Now that’s progressive thinking!

Completely devoid of critical thinking skills and unable to form an opinion of their own, they cover it up by always steering for what they think is the middle, apparently unaware that today’s imaginary middle is far to the right of Richard Nixon. And so the right wing manipulators can lead the averagers by their noses further and further to the right. The averagers have done every bit as much to enable the Bush administration as the religious fascists have (if not more, by seemingly legitimizing the administration).
