Anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers unplugged.

Following on Rep. Henry Waxman’s (D-CA) recent report showing that federally funded crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) mislead teens about abortion risks, CPC administrators begin to worry about the negative publicity and talk about tactics to keep unknowing women coming through their doors.

The abortion issue exposes the right-wing christians as anti freedom, in my opinion. Pro choices laws allow EVERYONE to exersice their cultural and spirtual beliefs. The right-wing chirstians just want a dictatorship of their Ideology. PRO CHOICE IS PRO LIFE, if you want it to be, its your CHOICE!

I have no idea what any of this means.

” Truth in the inward parts is a power, not an opinion.”

Who’s the good guy? Who’s the bad guy?

    Inward parts?

    The DLC are Frauds,

Hillary Clinton, a candidate of the DLC, has a primary opponent, the progressive, anti-war John Tasini.

If every Democrat in New York (around 5 million) just sent him $1, he would have more than enough money to spread his progressive agenda. And really take it to Hillary on this war. She needs a challenge.

    Please support his campaign…

This is just INSANE. Federally funded religious centers. I’m just so damn flabbergasted at the gall of all this. Here’s a link to Waxman’s report. Here’s some of the tidbits your daughters will hear if they call a place like the Choices Resource Center:
++ Your risk of breast cancer goes up 80% if you have an abortion. (Truth: It does not go up at all.)
++ Your risk of suicide in the year after goes up by a factor of seven and you’ll have PTSD effects like Vietnam soldiers. (Truth: It’s not more stressful or mentally challenging than giving birth.)
++ You’ll be infertile, or your future babies will be deformed, and that this happenes “a lot.”(Truth: There is no risk of any future reproductive trouble for women that aborted their first pregnancy in the first trimester.)

They are preying on panicked teens. It turns my stomach.

  8. dlet says:

So much for simply giving away diapers to women who can’t afford to buy them. That would just be … wrong.

Almost as wrong as lying for Jesus about your faith-based activities in order to get your hands on the taxpayers’ money.

That sums it up pretty well. The religion pushers never can see that they are doing anything wrong. What they do is in the name of jesus so it must be right. Well I can steal some food in the name of jesus too…doesn’t make it right now does it? They are stealing taxpayer money….my money…to promote their religous beliefs. I want them stoned. Maybe jesus will save them.

  9. Douglas G says:

Truth, if you didnt jump into the sack with every girl or guy you met, and waited until marriage, and then used proper birth control, this whole thread would be a moot point.

The above btw would solve over 90% of the abortions. The other 10% being a small number would not even warrant scrutiny, and there would be no further problems.

Seriously, we KNOW what causes pregnancy. Why are so many people suprised, when they find out they are pregnant? It’s not as if they sat on a toilet seat, and just “got pregnant”? We need to address the behavior that LEADS up to the person wanting an abortion, WAY before dealing with abortion. I think both parties are out to lunch on this issue!

  10. Betty35 says:

Thank you so much, DLC are Frauds! And don’t forget to tell 10 friends about John Tasini’s campaign. I have already donated as much as I could afford to his campaign. I don’t have much money, but I think it is a worthy cause.

You are absolutely right about everything you said AFTER that short bit about teaching abstinence. Were you ever a teenager?

Give them condoms and unbiased information so they can make up their own minds. people are only vastly ignorant because no one has given them incentive or resources to educate themselves. And an educated person is in a better position to make the ‘right’ decision.

  12. mroom says:

Not all unwanted pregnancies are teenagers, or unmarried women, or from lack of birth control use.

  13. Steven Ertelt says:

Waxman’s report says pregnancy centers wrongly tell pregnant women that abortion can increase the risk of contracting breast cancer, can lead to mental or psychological distress, and can cause future fertility issues.

Yet, that’s what most research studies on the topic show.

A 1996 report published by the British Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health looked at 23 previous studies and found abortion increases the breast cancer risk by 30 percent.

A 1991 British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology article revealed that women with a history of abortion had a 1.5-1.7 times higher risk of ectopic pregnancy than women who had previously carried a pregnancy to term.

And recent research from Norway and New Zealand has reported an association between abortion and subsequent mental health problems.
The New Zealand study, published by the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, found that mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse and suicidal thoughts, were more likely to occur among women who had an abortion than women who had never been pregnant or pregnant women who did not have an abortion.

  15. Bill says:

Doesn’t anyone here realize that abortion kills a life, the yet unborn child inside a woman? How can you people be so intelligent yet so stupid? The man and woman made their choice prior to conception. There is no choice to be made after that. Liberals want no responsibility for their actions. I obviously do not support abortion or the death penalty. All killing is wrong except in cases of self defense. Do you not realize that abortion is murder?

  16. Theresa says:

Hells Bells, gots me one of them CPCs on my little town’s Main Street. While searching to see the CPCs in NJ, I came across this report that proves to be interesting reading. The report is definetely on the pro-choice slant, but provides more insight to CPC tactics than what we can glean from the Waxman report. I’ve skimmed it, but some states donate part of their tobacco tax revenues to CPCs, some states have a Choose Life license plate program, etc.

Here’s the link to the report I reference:

  17. Skeptic says:

    Steve;
There was a thread on this topic a while back. There were numerous links to CDC and other neutral sources that showed that first term abortion does not increase the possibility of cancer or mental problems. Or you can do some research on your own. Did you notice that none of the research you cited was recent, and that you had to look over the entire English speaking world to find it? If these things were true there should be more studies which support your stance.

  18. Matthew J. Price says:

These Reich Wing Nazis are all nothing but a bunch of slezy used-car salesmen only with better suits.

  19. Douglas G says:

#12 – Not all unwanted pregnancies are teenagers, or unmarried women, or from lack of birth control use.

#11 – You are absolutely right about everything you said AFTER that short bit about teaching abstinence. Were you ever a teenager?

First, #12 you are right. However the MAJORITY of unwanted pregnancies ARE teenagers, umarried women, or lack of birth control. Take those out of the equation, and the number of abortions are reduced dramatically. Enough that it no longer is the MAJOR topic of concern that it has become.

#11 – Yes I was a teenager. A REALLY LONG time ago.. BUT, I was taught that I could control myself, and not act on every single urge as it happens. By the time I DID act upon those urges, I was old enough to understand the ramifications of my actions, and for the young lady and myself to take the proper precaustions to ensure no “suprises” happened. This suprises compromises the MAJORITY of abortions that take place. It falls under, (Dare I even say this), “responsibility for one’s actions”.

Now do not get me wrong. I think parents need to teach their children better. and to understand that they also set the example for their kids. I have been a single dad since 1993. I have been raising 2 daughters, and I set the example for them, not just talking the talk, but walking the walk. You can’t expect your son or daughter to follow the “Do as I say, not as I do” scenario. It just won’t work. I also believe that teaching responsibility for one’s actions is another HUGE step in the right direction.

  20. DRxJ says:

    Douglas G

    You’ve been abstaining since 1993? 13 years?
If this is true, more power to ya , bro (this is not meant to be a smart ass remark, I’m truly impressed because there is no way I could have done that)

  21. Douglas G says:

Actually, yes. I thought it better to set the example for my daughters than to satisfy urges. Yes, there were many time I was MORE than tempted, but as I said before, “responsibility for one’s actions”. There is no way I could stand in front of my children, and proclaim an action to take, and not be willing to follow that action myself. To do so would be dishonest, and how are your children suposed to look up to you, if you are dishonest with them, and expect them to follow rules that you yourself either won’t or can’t?

  22. ADarling says:

    # 13

I realize you may be unfamiliar with the standards of modern science. Citing studies from 1996 and 1991 is a bit like giving your opinion; if one goes back far enough, one can find a study saying just about anything. As to “recent” studies – how recent and by whom?

I am afraid the you have embarrassed yourself a bit. I suggest you go back to the folks who handed you these “facts” and let them know that they need to come up with more accurate and convincing arguements before you’ll risk going out to make a fool of yourself again.

Have to agree, smacks of Christian fascism. Seems to be a lot of religious fascism going around these days.

  23. numfar says:

Not being a woman, I cannot speak from their point of view. However, I can speak from a general, rational thinking person point of view.

I truly believe NO ONE WANTS an abortion. Who would? But if it is needed, it should be available.

The ladies that choose to have an abortion should have that right. It’s their body, their life. Being misinformed and frightened by these supposedly reputable organizations is just wrong.

The true solution lies in education and prevention. I spoke with both my son and daughter about sex. It was uncomfortable for all parties, but it was necessary. I’ve also made it a point to talk with their partners, much to their dismay. (evil father laugh) We still occassionally talk about their relationships (both emotional and physical). I know our conversations stick in their heads when they have a decision to make. So far, they have used the proper protection.

If the parents are too squeamish to talk to their kids about sex, then there should be another avenue for the kids to get information, not MISINFORMATION.

I would have to disagree. Being a father myself, I cannot understand why any woman would want to have an abortion with the exception of rape, incest or if the pregnancy endangered her life. The problem with liberals is that apparently most of them have never seen an ultrasound. How anyone could deny that even an embryo is a living human being after that experience would be beyond me. Who can say in their heart after witnessing new life that abortion is not murder? You have to be pretty cold-hearted indeed.

See liberals like to take no responsibility for their actions. They want the government to step in as much as possible monetarily and as least when it comes to making the hard choices in their lives. There are millions of couples in this country each year who seek to adopt children from other countries. I guess I just don’t understand why adoption is not pushed more often at these planned parenthood offices. Then you have to remember that abortion is one the sacraments the left seems to cherish as they will do almost anything to preserve it.

  25. Bill says:

Hey – TP nice editing job! You guys are the real nazis! What I posted earlier really must have struck a nerve with someone.

  26. numfar says:

The problem with liberals is that apparently most of them have never seen an ultrasound. How anyone could deny that even an embryo is a living human being after that experience would be beyond me.
    Are you sure about that?

Also, someone else once posted this question…You’re in a burning building. If you found a crying, scared toddler in one corner and some embryos in a petri dish in another corner, and you can only save one or the other, which would you save? The crying, scared toddler, or the embyros?

See liberals like to take no responsibility for their actions. Are you sure about that?

You state this stuff as fact, yet it’s really so much horseshit you’ve been fed by those who want to control EVERY aspect of our lives…what we watch on tv, what we hear on the radio, … oops … don’t look now, there’s Janet Jackson’s boob!

  27. numfar says:

Then you have to remember that abortion is one the sacraments the left seems to cherish as they will do almost anything to preserve it.

Not abortion, but self-determination. I pay my government, not the other way around. They need to stay the hell out of my life.

  28. Skeptic says:

See liberals like to take no responsibility for their actions.

What is odd is that Republicans take no responsibility for anybody else. Some of the “religious” groups mentioned above are trying to deny diapers to poor women and their infants . All the programs to provide for children and women and the elderly are Liberal/Progressive/Democratic. There was someone on the TP earlier who wanted to end Social Security and Medicaid. I guess he wanted to see the poor and elderly dying on the street.

If you were a responsible person in a Republican controlled world wouldn’t you prefer to abort a child than see yourself and that child starve? What if you had other dependent children and realized you did not have the money to take 6 weeks off work? What if your employer would fire you if you remained pregnant?

  29. Zooey says:

    Well said BlueDog49 & numfar.

See liberals like to take no responsibility for their actions.
    Comment by Larry

This is not a “liberal” or “conservative” thing. It’s a woman thing, and no one else’s business.

  30. numfar says:

Again, I say NO ONE WANTS an abortion. It’s too traumatic, no matter the science, no matter the ethics.

The true solution is in education.

    Teach Johnny and Mary
    #1 Abstinence

#2 Use Protection…rubbers, the pill, Just Say No

#3 Repeating Abstinence and Just Say No

To sum up…if you put your pecker in Mary, she might get pregnant, and you’re too much of a doofus to care for the result.

Johnny…control yourself, jack off, or wear a rubber.

Mary…control yourself, jill off, wear a rubber, or get on the pill.

This is the best thing next to abstinence, imho.

  31. Skeptic says:

    Numfar;
Good post. Also remember Plan B if the rubber fails. Don’t combine sex and antibiotics.

  32. Matthew J. Price says:

    comment by Larry

    To Larry,
Unfortunately for non-liberals like yourself, statistics show that the rates for teenage and out-of-wedlock pregnancies are higher in the so-called red states than they are in the liberal/progressive blue states.

    To Zooey,
This is just one of the reasons I defended Henry Waxman as one of our better Congressmen on another thread. He exposes things like this.

  34. Wolfdaughter says:

Re abortion and breast cancer. I am a just-retired medical librarian. I was the point person in my library for women’s health. I have attended numerous workshops and seminars on breast cancer, aimed at health professionals.

ABORTION HAS NO RELATIONSHIP WITH BREAST CANCER. Breast cancer does NOT go up post-abortion. If you know anything at all about disease causation, you will realize that there is no possible mechanism by which abortion can cause breast cancer.

It has been learned in the past few years that most breast cancers occur in women who have one of several mutated genes. The most common one is BRCA1, and the next most common is BRCA2. There are a few other mutated genes but the numbers of women who have them are small. Incidentally, Jewish women of Ashkenazi descent have the highest proportion of breast cancers compared with their total population.

Abortion does not cause mutated genes.

I also concur with those of you who are pro-choice. Abortion is not something people just WANT. Women who have abortions feel that they have no choice. If I were counseling women contemplating abortion, I certainly would ask them to think about carrying to term and allowing the babies to be adopted, but IT’S NOT MY CHOICE. Only the pregnant woman can decide her course.

If you oppose abortion, you cannot be taken seriously if you also oppose birth control. And you have to be willing to support greater funding for homes for indigent pregnant women. And realize that an atmosphere of condemnation for these women only increases the likelihood of their seeking abortions.

Larry, no. 24, being a father does not mean that you have any idea of what a woman feels who doesn’t believe she can carry the fetus to term. In fact, it’s impossible for any man to truly understand this. And we liberals DO take responsibility. Your whole post from beginning to end is filled with unsubstantiated claims. If you can find actual cites to back up your opinions, go for it. I think you would be surprised if you bothered to do any research.
