Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) told a town hall audience in Gallitin County, Illinois. “Enemies in Iran and North Korea, along with terrorist groups bent on doing the United States harm, are getting stronger while the U.S. is bogged down in Iraq, he said.”
“Bullshit Dumbshit War”
August 16th, 2006 at 9:52 amBefore the first shot was fired, I told everyone I know that marching into Iraq was an extremely BAD idea. Consider it “I told you so” already said.
August 16th, 2006 at 9:53 am
Good Morning, Uncle Ho, I just saw it!
Barack Obama is the coolest guy. Feingold/Obama 2008!
August 16th, 2006 at 9:55 amBut it’s W’s favorite war, & we ain’t getting out ’till he’s ready.
August 16th, 2006 at 9:59 amEven though he was too f*cked up to attend the Air Guard, he
always wanted to dress up in uniform & play soldier. Now he’s
getting that chance. ‘Mission Accomplished’ in full flight gear
validates my point. Even though the invasion of Iraq spawned
a quagmire it’s still his war, and by God, no one will deny him
the pleasure of watching it continue.
Taking your eye off the ball doesn’t begin to describe Iraq.
A better descriptor would be ‘Where the Hell is the Ball?’
Bush gives God a bad name.
I’ll have to agree with Obama on this one. We should be attacking Iran and North Korea right now. Honestly, the Dems keep talking about Iran and North Korea getting stronger. Why don’t they come out and demand that Bush attack them? I mean, the Dems wouldn’t be crying over Iran and North Korea without any actually intention to attack them. Would they?
Oh wait, the Dems are the party that wouldn’t attack Iran even if Iran hit us with a Nuke. So, please just shut up already with this tough guy talk. Obama and the rest of you aren’t actually going to attack Iran or North Korea so it really doesn’t matter one bit if we have our troops in Iraq. You guys wouldn’t use them anyways!!
August 16th, 2006 at 10:05 amObama throwing down some adjectives. Whew!
August 16th, 2006 at 10:05 amCould someone please explain to me why Iran is our enemy?
August 16th, 2006 at 10:10 amBTW,
Is this the same rally Obama was preaching about Global warming and not using gas guzzling cars? Obama needs a reality check. The moron told a crowd of Democrat robots to not us gas guzzling cars. Then he leaves in a gas guzzling SUV.
Even funnier, his press person said that the SUV was a E85 SUV, but after some research, it turns out that the SUV in question has NEVER been produced for E85.
Basically, he is just one more Elite that thinks his actions and his life is more important then ours.
And to think I used to like the guy. What a shame!
August 16th, 2006 at 10:11 am#5, Roger,
August 16th, 2006 at 10:12 amNuking someone isn’t diplomacy, it’s suicide for all of us.
Try some oatmeal instead of Kool-aid to start your day,
Roger…you need to chill a bit.
I think roger roger is confusing obama with hastert
August 16th, 2006 at 10:22 amCrap! We have neverending list of enemies! Once Iran and North Korea are taken out of our enemy list who will replace them? Saudi? I’m sure we still need more oil. Venesuela! Pretty soon we will have harder time trying to name who are not our enemies. Obama is becoming disappointing. He makes fine speeches but don’t have true substance behind his words. Damn! We need someone who advocates Peace above all else!
August 16th, 2006 at 10:22 amObama is on the right track but I don’t think he says it quite right. I don’t see Iraq as a dumb war as much as I see war as a dumb option with which to fight an idea. Glenn Greenwald says it best.
http://glenngreenwald.blogspot.com/
August 16th, 2006 at 10:22 amRoger, the silly argument you use about gas guzzlers is the same on that a Chicago radio dj used for Dick Durbin once. It seems good on the surface, but when you consider that the SUV in question is not being driven by a lone figure, but rather full of people, the argument loses it’s weight. Had he driven off alone in the vehicle, then perhaps you might have had a point. Or even is he and ten other people in his staff drove off in ten different vehicles which were gas economical you would have a point, but when they all hop into one or two vehicles the argument dies. By the way how do you know what he drove?
Anyone want some good Barak speeches check out his anti-Iraq speech from 2003 or his Knox College commencement address from last year.
August 16th, 2006 at 10:23 am“Dumb war,” hmm. I’ve been against the war since before it began, and I am hardly a fan of this administration (haha) but considering the vast loss of life that has occurred as a result of mindless American intervention in the region…I don’t know, “dumb” just seems to be an inappropriate term for it, it even sounds rather belittling. That the people who started the war itself are dumb, there is no doubt. For the war itself, “misguided,” “unnecessary,” “atrocious,” “horrifying,” maybe. But dumb? Just doesn’t seem to fit.
August 16th, 2006 at 10:25 amEven funnier, his press person said that the SUV was a E85 SUV, but after some research, it turns out that the SUV in question has NEVER been produced for E85.
Who did the research? You? Info, please. I’d like to check it out. Was the SUV a Chevy Suburban, which seems to be popular among politicians? If so, the 2002-2007 models with the 5.3 liter V8 are flex-fuel compatible.
Source.
As for morons, George Bush Sr. advised Americans to conserve gas during Gulf War I. He said this while taking a break from riding around in his boat that burned 25 gallons of gas per hour.

August 16th, 2006 at 10:31 amOh, and here’s another moron for you, Roger_Roger: House Speaker Dennis Hastert, who recently appeared at a gas station espousing the benefits of hydrogen powered vehicles, drove off in a car powered by a fuel cell for all the press to see, then hopped into a Chevy Suburban to drive the remaining distance to the Capitol. About a block or so distance.
August 16th, 2006 at 10:31 amIf Dems are all ‘elitists,’ why is that the Republicans are the ones crying for the estate tax cut and the Dems are against it?
I would think all rich elitists would want to cut the estate tax… oh, wait. Republicans are the ones that put the interests of 7000 super rich elitists over those of 8,000,000 working Americans who are making minimum wage.
August 16th, 2006 at 10:36 am“Are you better off now than you were 6 year’s ago”?……..After all the event’s that have happened, created and ploted by this administration, “Do you feel safer”, how’s the econemy, our military, our enviroment, our citizens in general and the poor and working class.?……How about our infastructure….Our constitution?……After all these things are weighed in who are the loosers and who the winners.? Follow the money , polluters and distroyers and the answers are there………Blessings today……Peace, demand it..
August 16th, 2006 at 10:48 amYou are using drudgereport for a source you expect us to have any faith in at all?
I’m kinda surprised you have any faith in it. We could post things from The Onion that are just as accurate and truthful.
August 16th, 2006 at 10:50 amWe need someone who advocates Peace above all else!
Um, there’s Dennis Kucinich?
August 16th, 2006 at 10:53 amHe proposed a Secretary of Peace, if he became president.
Oh, don’t get me wrong. I am not just a Democrat hater. I hate the Republicans just as much. Both parties are filled with complete idiots. They all step up and preach a great game come election time, but neither party actually does what they say. I am fed up with politics right now. I would vote for a canidate that I completely disagree with if I truly believed that he or she actually meant what he or she said and would actually push for change.
My biggest beef with the repugs is the massive spending they do in congress. Sadly, what is my alternative? The Dems love to point out all the spending the repugs but they aren’t going to change it. The Dems need to stop talking about wasteful spending unless they are prepared to step up and actually cut federal spending across the board.
Both parties are equally full of crap right now. Neither party is actually looking out for our interests. You guys scream on the blogs about how you want out of Iraq. The Dems come on TV and talk about how horrible Iraq is and how we need to leave. Then they vote on setting a time table and most vote against it. FULL OF CRAP!!!
It is time to see our elected officails actually step up and do what they say. The Dems and the Repugs are identical at this point. Neither party actually works for change. Both just want to spend more money.

If Drudge is to believed, looks like you may be right. I’ve fired off an e-mail to Sen. Obama to see what they say.

August 16th, 2006 at 11:13 amWrite in your own name for every elected office this november.
Case dismissed.
All wars are dumb, but Iraq one is far dumber than most, and Israel’s war on Lebanon was the dumbest in history! War is NOT the way to solve differences, nor problems either! War represents failure and must never be considered something necessary to solve problems! Our nation must seek peace in the world, and not more conflicts, so elect peacemakers!
August 16th, 2006 at 11:14 amCould someone please explain to me why Iran is our enemy?
Comment by Jeffrey Stewart
——————-
A perceived enemy to the dollar/US economy.
Euros for oil,not dollars.
August 16th, 2006 at 11:14 amIt may be quite laudable that Obama has decided to recognize that being in Iraq is a “dumb war” but his criticism becomes superficial as he is against withdrawal. If he claims that the war is dumb, then the best way of demonstrating that and to show his support the troops is to get those troops out of that abattoir as quickly and as rapidly as possible.
August 16th, 2006 at 11:19 amI can hear Bush’s response: “Thee War in Eroq is not dumb. It is big. Just like China is big. The war is action-packed, that means there is a lot of action going on. The war will be his-tor-y. The war will be my legacy, that means it will be how people remember me as President. I wonder who will play me in the movie. Maybe Mel Gibson, heh heh. Won’t read the book but can’t wait for the movie. All my PNAC buddies and I can watch the movie and eat popcorn. No pretzels, though, heh heh.”
August 16th, 2006 at 11:36 amDid Obama vote for or against setting a time table to leave Iraq?
Same BS most Dems are doing. They talk smack about it, but when it comes time to vote on leaving Iraq, they shy away. Who is representing your interests anyways? The dems in congress are for the Iraq war on paper. They vote against taking the troops home and they vote for the funding. They give you some lip service and your somehow pleased. WAKE UP!
August 16th, 2006 at 11:44 amIt is time to see our elected officails actually step up and do what they say. The Dems and the Repugs are identical at this point. Neither party actually works for change. Both just want to spend more money.

The electoral system is half the problem, a system that allows only two genuine choices is little better than a one party state, and barely deserves the name of democracy. Maybe in th 18th century it was state of the art, but it sucks big time now.
Still though, you’ve had a decade of republicans, time for a change and voting for someone other than the democrats simply guarantees a republican and you KNOW you hate them.
August 16th, 2006 at 11:49 amDumb War? Wrong War? Wrong place? Wrong Time? Wrong Generals? Wrong reasons?………not prepared…..not 100% supported…..
Does anyone here realize that is what was said for EVERY SINGLE war america has been involved in since is inception?(actually before…if you count the Fr + Ind War)….
Does anyone here realize that people that spoke these words were more often than not COMPLETELY wrong as history played its never-ending game of passing time?
Does anyone here realize that every war America has been involved in has been–BY CHOICE? yes…by CHOICE…..
Obama is nothing other than a great story of inspiration ( i certainly give him and his father credit for being the living the american dream)….yet his talk about being tough on these other countries is not going to fool too many people….come on—-he is a member of the democratic party—-and the last dem to have any guts, conviction, or strength concerning national defense was…….was…………was…….. .. .. …… waass…………
August 16th, 2006 at 12:54 pm“There are real enemies out there and we have to face them,” Obama said…maybe in the rear view mirror or over his shoulder once he is called to task…..other than that—–you can expect really nice speeches!!!
Dumb War? Wrong War? Wrong place? Wrong Time? Wrong Generals? Wrong reasons?………not prepared…..not 100% supported….. Does anyone here realize that is what was said for EVERY SINGLE war america has been involved in since is inception? Comment by *NEOCON*
So what? Our past wars could have been 100% intelligent, in the right place, in the right time, with the right reasons, and well-prosecuted. It does not, therefore, follow that this one is any of those things. Learning from the past is not the same as living in it.
August 16th, 2006 at 1:27 pmAll our past wars have been not been fought for all the right reasons. Hmm let me think…Mexican American war was simplya war of conquest. Spanish American war, a war of conquest. Indian wars… wars of conquest, Korea/Vietnam? go figure. Toss in many many actions fought to support unpopular regimes of one sort or another and you don’t get what has been advertised. You get the revolution, the civil war and WWII as being justifiable wars. 1812 is too because we were attacked. Some of our minor actions, such as Tripoli way back when were also justifiable. But very rarely has the US fought a war that can be justifiable when everything is taken into account.
Gulf war I? Nope GHWB said it was to protect the democratic freedom loving people of Kuwait, it was actually to protect oil supplies (which Sadaam would have sold to us) and it helped lead to the rise of what we face today. WWI? Nope Wilso was dying to get involved just to get involved.
August 16th, 2006 at 1:34 pmRoger_Roger,
Attack Iran and North Korea.. ???? With what ? Certainly not conventional troops. The 35K or so troops currently patrolling the DMZ in Korea would be overwhelmed in a matter of hours (not days) by the NK Army (Some 1 Million strong). Not to mention the fact that NK could destroy Seoul with raockets and missles during that same time period. So unless you are going to nuke NK entirely off the map attacking them is not an option. In regard to Iran, it has been stated in this thread (and in many others) that the governing majority in Iraq right now is the Shite population. Given that Iran is mostly Shite and that Iraqi Shites have protested the American presence in Iraq, how is an attack of Iran going to play out in the streets of Baghdad and for the American troops who are there ?
August 16th, 2006 at 2:11 pmSilly people, we are fighting them over there in Iraq so that they will be very well trained when they decide to fight us everywhere else….wait, that sounded ridiculous…In order to win the war on terror we have to train these fringe groups to fight like organized armies so that we can reclasify them as such and defeat terror! Gosh y’all there is just no way any realistic/SANE person can look at this and say “We are winning!” Repent!
August 16th, 2006 at 3:05 pmWe will never attack North Korea. They don’t have anything we want. Iran needs to keep there head on a swivel though. Iran shouldn’t be talking all this smack while sitting on a huge amount of Oil. In the long run, they will either change or we will invade. North Korea can say and do whatever they want, we won’t touch those losers. Sames with the Sudan. The Sudan gets screwed because all they have is sand.
NOTE: I think it is sad that we base who and what we care about based on resources we need. However, this is humanity and it won’t change. Then again, we all know this anyways.
August 16th, 2006 at 3:26 pmI agree! This is the dumbest war That I think we’ve ever been involved in.I never once agreed with the Idea of going into this war.Why are we in it?In my opinion I think George Bush is the biggest IDIOT in the whole world.
August 16th, 2006 at 4:12 pmObama is another Bush. He wants to kick ass and thinks Bush is kicking the wrong ass. That’s
August 16th, 2006 at 7:33 pmthe only difference. Oh and Obama is a lot better speaker.
..the guy doesn’t seem to really stand for anything. he doesn’t seem passionate, and to me..he comes off as indifferent.
And I live in Chicago. If you don’t stand for something..I mean really, give the seat up.
