Congressional candidate Tramm Hudson, apologizing for his earlier statement: “I grew up in Alabama. I understand, uh, I know from experience, that blacks are not the greatest swimmers or may not even know how to swim.”
My jaw hurts from smacking the floor so hard. Not only that, but he blithely tosses out that people from Alabama believe this. You know, ignorant people.

I’m convinced, having grown up in the South, that it’s impossible for some people.
When you hold an ideology that sorts people into catagories of ‘good’ or ‘bad’ only, with no grey area, you need to create ‘bad’ people so that you can believe you are one of the ‘good’ kind… They are generally wrong.

If they are always making racist comments in private conversations, they are more likely to let it slip in public.
I am part native american, I have racist asses call me spic, wetback and other bullshit alot, Because my skin a bit darker than pure lily white. its not even that dark, like a nice tan in the summer.
Racist assholes eventually slip, no matter how hard they try.
The part of the iceberg you see is just the small tip of the larger ice beneath the waves. These fascists “get caught” making racial slurs and demeaning minorities when they KNOW they are being watched or taped, can you even imagine how they are like when they think they are unobserved in private.
I would think he is confusing black people with poor people, whom in Alabama happen to be black. It is my experience that underprivileged people don’t have the same opportunities to learn to swim. Going to a creek(crick) and walking around in it is not an opportunity to learn to swim.
The confederacy of dunces–racist comments just drop out of their big mouths?! Nope, just showing their true colors as the old, white, male, klu klux klanners that they are.
I told someone that made a comment that we need to ship all blacks back to Africa, ” while your at it get yourself a ticked to europe, since your not a real native here either, then ”
Hillary Clinton said Gandi owned a gas station. Joe Biden said something about you have to be Indian to shop at 7/11. Dems say stupid things all the time.
I also tell clowns that have the Rebel Flag proudly displayed. “What’s wrong with the American flag. My grandfather didn’t lose a leg in WWII for the Rebel Flag.”
The racist are coming out of the woodwork as their leaders the Bush Administration continue to push racism. Now remember hands off anything about Jewish people but you can say anything and everything about any other race in the US. I’m a baby boomer and have swam all my life as did by Grandparents, parents and children and yes some family members are living in the south. My Dad was in the Navy and yes he could swim so Tramm Hudson is full of it. Now who’s he going to blame for his racist remarks oh ya it’s either Lamont or Clinton. The GOP always blames someone else but the GOP does have Holy Joe to fool honest decent Americans.
This story is so imcomplete that it is impossible to make a “judgement call” about it. Let’s not just sling mud because the guy is a Republican without knowing really what happened here. I always decry a knee-jerk reaction by the Right…not an attrative attribute within the Left either. If we want to show others that we are the party of the rational, let’s be rational. K?
That is reverse racism to vote for Lynn Swann or Michael Steele just because they are black.
Liberals are attacking them because they happen to be black. Dems will lose votes if African Americans start voting Republican. They have a lot to lose. Thus, liberals smear Swan, Blackwell, and Steele. Steele is an orea, liberals say, because he is a Republican.
And Ann Coulter says Maxine Waters should be working at McDonalds. Well, the party that has welcomed African-Americans int their ranks for decades is the Democratic Party. Now that the Republicans see the changing demographics of the nation, they are trying to stuff their white-sheets back under the bed.
Sorry Bubbas. Tell George Allen to stand up for his “rebel” past and put a rebel flag in a campaign spot.
Oh yeah. The Democrats that were cowed into voting for BUSH’S WAR were pathetic dupes. I would vote everyone of them out of office. But, I wouldn’t mind tossing the old noodle into Mary Landrieu before voting against her.
“It seems more like ignorance than slur. Let it go.†So since he’s an ignorant racist rather than flag-burning racist, it’s no big deal?
Flag-burning? WTF?
It’s no big deal because his statement was more true than not in the historical context he was speaking in, it wasn’t intended as a wink to the racists in the audience, and because he apologized quickly and (I think) sincerely.
He has never apologized to Sidarth. He has issued statements covering his ass. George Allen said when he was young he was sensitive to the troubles that blacks suffered. Then he went on to wear a rebel flag on his lapel for his HS photo and kept nooses and rebel flags in his office.
If he was aware of the racist past, why did he surround himself with affectionate reminders of our nations odious racist history?
Yeah, they are screwed up. But Democrat votes elected them, not people like me.
Comment by Mr. Big
I dunno, Big. I would vote for Biden. I think he is basically an honest man who could make the right decisions if he had the same staff, intelligence agencies, and the entire government complex to draw on to base his decisions. As for Hillary, yes, her ass is a little big, but she is certainly no worse then her counterpart, Ann Coulter.
As for people like you, I bet you are one of the 51% of American voters who fell for the bullshit of a fake Texas cowboy who doesn’t even own a cow.

You better believe it.â€, “The best policy regarding global warming is to neglect it — and let capitalism continue to make us healthier and wealthier.”, “I never said drop a nuclear bomb… It could have. They could obliterate them.â€, “Lets give a welcome to Macaca [racial slur], here. Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia.â€, “Weeks before September 11th, this is going to play big.”, “Without affirmative action [Rep. Yeah, based on the shaped intelligence fed to all of us by the White House. Thanks to Bush allowing Rummy and Cheney to run the show, we are up to our necks in shit. The people are getting fed up. Even Biden is admitting that it is not all about resolve and determination, but that logic and common sense will determine if we can turn the Iraqi War around.
Bush is a stubborn. linear-thinking asshole with no flexibility and no imagination. I don’t see that in Biden.
So you’re saying Biden got hoodwinked and duped?
Maybe. Probably. Like Colin Powell. And like most of the Republicans and many of the democrats who are now running their asses off trying to distance themselves from Bush after also being duped. Who would want to admit to being duped by a dope?
[…] Republican Congressional candidate Tramm Hudson said something stupid, and then issued a statement apologizing, acknowledging that he “said something stupid.” You’ve got to give the man credit for being frank — and there was no bullshit Allen-style “if anybody was offended” clause. (Via Think Progress) […]
Sorry guys, I am gonna side with the dumbass on this one. I have been around a lot of blacks here in Southern California and they will tell you that some stereotypes are true. Most of the black guys I know do not swim, hate snakes, don’t ski (because they hate snow) and they like fried chicken and watermelon.
But, the same can be said about me except, I like to swim and I don’t like spiders. I don’t like to ski, because I don’t like the snow and I love fried chicken and watermelon.
This is nothing like Allen calling somebody macaca. Not even close. I laughed when I heard this dumbass say that out loud. Yes, it is a stereotype, a true one at that, but it ain’t the same as calling somebody a shit head.
Should somebody running for office say this, no, I hope he loses, but I don’t see this as the same thing in the least.
But what is funny is on the day of this NSA wiretapping ruling, all the cable news shows like Scarborough and Paula Zahn How?are talking about the Ramsey killer.
But, the same can be said about me except, I like to swim and I don’t like spiders. I don’t like to ski, because I don’t like the snow and I love fried chicken and watermelon.
Comment by Spudge_Boy
Me too, Spudge. I like to swim, but every since I saw Jaws the first time, my stuff gets a little weak in deep water. And I agree the blacks like fried chicken and watermelon. They call it Soul Food so I guess that makes us all racists.
As for WORFEUS asking whose Bushs court jester and wondering who is funny over there? How about Karl Rove? You have to admit he looks like that Linus from the Peanuts comic strip. Colin Powell used to be, but he got tired of being laughed at after making a fool out of himself at the UN and resigned.
Yes, and you can probably find a lot of public pools in inner cities around the country that have lots of black folks swimming, but in my experience for 36 years of living with and having friends that are black, most of them do not swim, etc. (list above). I also said, that I live in Soutern California. Maybe it is more like Alabama than I thought. Hmmmm.
Not funny. In fact, I heard Rove can’t laugh. He can only chortle.
Comment by WORFEUS
All right. How about Cheney? I thought that he was pretty funny when he said the insurgency in Iraq was on its last legs? And how about him mistaking the hunting guide for a dove and nearly blowing him away? That was kind of funny.
The KKK the ROVE and GWB, and the OPEC has taken control of the GOP along with the GOV and the USA. That means the DNC along with the PEOP are gonna have to come up with a POD to kick the KKK, the ROVE, OPEC and the GWB out of the USA or will all end up MIA or even KIA before we ever figure out why the HELL we went into IRAQ in the FFP. And Usama is still free.
As I pointed out yesterday, regarding the statement made by Sen. Allen, and the posts regarding “racism”:
1. “I love this quote. It’s from Mahatma Gandhi. He ran a gas station down in St. Louis for a couple years. Mr. Gandhi, you still go to the gas station? A lot of wisdom comes out of that gas station.” Hillary Rodham Clinton D-NY, January 3rd, 2004 in St. Louis.
2. “There are white ni*gers. I’ve seen a lot of white ni*gers in my time, want to use that word. We just need to work together to make our country a better country and I’d just as soon quit talking about it so much.” Senator Robert Byrd D-WVa, March 4, 2001.
3. “In Delaware, the largest growth of population is Indian-Americans, moving from India. You cannot go to a seven eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not kidding.” Senator Joseph Biden D-DE, June 17, 2006, Manchester, New Hampshire.
After posting these quotes yesterday, some of the responses were:
“apology issued, no lame excuses.” in reference to Sen. Clinton’s and Sen. Byrd’s remarks. The inference was, the apology was made, so let it be. Candidate Hudson apologized, so I guess if we’re following the same standards as when a Democrat says something stupid, then for Candidate Hudson, he’s apologized, so move on. Leave it be.
105. Absolutely correct. Both sides of the aisle say really DUMB things from time to time. I for one, am a person who, if someone says something offensive and truly is sorry for saying, I am prepared to accept an apology (assuming it’s offered), and move on. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said or done something that wasn’t the right thing to do, and when I apologize for having said or done whatever it was, I am grateful that those around me have accepted that apology and that is the end of it.
I brought up the Clinton, Byrd and Biden remarks only to point out on this list that some on the left have said things they regretted later. For the most part, they did the right thing, and apologized. We should leave this be now. No sense flogging a dead horse.
Both sides of the aisle say really DUMB things from time to time.
Comment by rickd — August 18, 2006 @ 1:07 am
Yea, but the problem is the left are not passing legislation thats hurting the minorities. The right is no friend to the african americans in this country, and never have been.
Or did you think it was democrats blocking the entrances at southern colleges to keep out the black students?
The dirty little truth about the conservatives are they are buy and large racist. They believe whites are superiour to all other races, and they believe Christians are superior to everyone.
And therein lies most of this countries, and probably this worlds problems.
Now perhaps, borrowing from Coulteresque tactics, we could resolve the issue by merely neutering all republican males over the age of 13. See its the mix of testosterone combined with the omnipotence fixation that starts all the trouble.
Republican women, (except for those with high levels of testosterone like Katherine Harris or Barbara Bush) don’t cause near as many problems.
111. I’m curious about your remark “The right is no friend to the african americans in this country, and never have been.” Let’s look at the Civil Rights Act of 1964. If I’m not mistaken, when looking at the votes for the legislation to outlaw discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin, the results were:
I see that in all cases, the Republicans supported that legislation in a greater percentage than the Democrats. Again, if I’m not mistaken, didn’t Al Gore’s father actually vote AGAINST that act in 1964?
I am interested in hearing what it is you think the right has against the black population in this country.
I’m kind of inclined to agree with those who are saying not to flog the hell out of this one. I don’t know a lot about Tramm Hudson, but I appreciate that his apology seems unequivocal and sincere. I’m not likely to ever vote for him, but that’s mainly for political reasons.
Hudson’s case is very different from George Allen’s. Allen’s excuses are lame, and his “apology” is one those “I’m sorry that you feel that way” non-apologies. The way Allen has handled the “macaca” incident reveals what a truly despicable and racist human being he is. He does not deserve a place in the U.S. Senate.
I am interested in hearing what it is you think the right has against the black population in this country.
Comment by rickd — August 18, 2006 @ 1:25 am
Nothing. In fact they (tobacco leaders) provided ships and stuff to bring them from Africa.
Look, if you honestly think its liberals out dragging blacks behind pickups in Texas, then ok.
As for the voting records you pulled up mr google? All I can say is nice research, but In my 40 plus years on this planet I’ve heard thousands and thousands of conservatives using racial slurs. In fact, my neighbors, right wingers all of them, use them constantly.
I don’t hear liberals doing it, I hear conservatives doing it.
And if you’re stupid enough to believe otherwise then so be it.
116. Very true. When someone says “I’m sorry if YOU’RE offended”, that is not an apology at all. I didn’t follow the Allen issue that closely to know if he in fact did one of those types of apologies. If he did, then he needs to either apologize correctly or bear the brunt of criticisms.
And btw mr google, here is some background on the passing of the voting rights act, taken from the same wikipedia page you took your stats from.
The bill was promised by President John F. Kennedy in his civil rights speech of June 11, 1963,[1] in which he asked for legislation that would provide “the kind of equality of treatment which we would want for ourselves.” He then sent the bill to Congress on June 19, when it was introduced in Congress by Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield. Kennedy was unable to advance the bill, but after his death, the President Lyndon Johnson decided to use his power in Congress to pass it. Despite an 83 day filibuster in the Senate led by conservatives and segregationists, both parties in Congress voted overwhelmingly in favor of the Act, and President Johnson signed the bill into law on July 2, 1964.
I know you meant to include that so I did it for you.
119. 120. Soooo close. I suppose had you researched a bit further you would have found that the filibuster of the Civil Rights Act was prolonged by 14+ hours due to a continuous speach by one Senator Robert Byrd (D - WV). It was Republican votes that enabled cloture. Up to that point in history, the Senate had never been able to put together enough votes to force a vote on a civil rights bill, and that vote occured thanks to Republicans. It was Richard Russell (D - GA) who organized 18 Southern Democratic Senators to filibuster the bill.
111 (again). In answer to your question “Or did you think it was democrats blocking the entrances at southern colleges to keep out the black students?”, my answer - Yes. See George C. Wallace - Governor of Alabama (Democrat), and Democratic candidate for President 1964, 1972 and 1976.

And BTW. I used to LIVE in West Virginia. And it is NOT a liberal state. West Virginia is primarly conservative, and they vote Byrd in because the right never opposed him much, because the conservatives in WV love him.
Course this year he could be saying bye bye to that seat if the repuggies have their way.
134. Albert Gore Senior. Senator - Tennessee
135. I asked that question in all seriousness. I’ve only lived in the US since 2001, so I’m not sure I understand why you feel that way.
Many hard-core racists in this thread. No surprise: it’s a liberal site, after all. Did any one of those who casually used terms such as “Bubbas” stop to think that they were ascribing negative aspects (racism) to a group of people (Southern whites) out of bigotry? Of course not, it’s automated behaviour.
In the Sentinel interview, civil rights leader Andrew Young was asked about whether he was concerned Wal-Mart causes smaller, mom-and-pop stores to close.
“Well, I think they should; they ran the `mom and pop’ stores out of my neighborhood,” the paper quoted Young as saying. “But you see, those are the people who have been overcharging us, selling us stale bread and bad meat and wilted vegetables. And they sold out and moved to Florida. I think they’ve ripped off our communities enough. First it was Jews, then it was Koreans and now it’s Arabs; very few black people own these stores.”
Young, a former Democratic Atlanta mayor and U.N. ambassador appointed by Jimmy Carter, was hired by Working Families for Wal-Mart in February.
If Mr Big is saying we need to put Barbara Boxer and Al Gore in leadership positions, he may have a good point there.
That said, you can’t ever please the neocons. They want support for a policy even if you doubt it, because criticism undermines the policy they are going to take whether you like it or not. So some of us held our criticism to see if maybe they know what they’re doing after all. Then when it becomes clear they f***ed up (big time) they come back and point fingers at us for not standing against them in the beginning.
You can’t win with them, and I guess you can’t trust what they tell you either.
Next time a conservative tells you to support them for the sake of national unity, think long and hard about that.
It’s sad to see all the vitriol spewed over this, Tramm Hudson is actually not a racist. I know him personally, and he has never made a racial comment in my presence. He has never shown anything but respect for all those around him, no ma tter what their skin color. Yes, he did grow up in Alabama, and yes, in the south blacks were often not allowed to use public pools and as a result, did not learn how to swim. I grew up in the eighties, in a small southern town, and even at the local pool in my town, which was at a cheap country club for the lower-middle class, there were zero people of color, despite the town being half African American by population. Obviously they were not allowed to join. And of course there were no private pools in “black part of town”. This was in the eighties! Tramm Hudson’s comment reflects the reality of the south, and though that is a sad reality, it is not a reflection of his personal feelings about black people. For as long as I’ve known him, he has attended a weekly prayer group held by a local black church. In this and in my personal dealings with him, it is clear that he is a man who seeks to rise above the prejudices of the culture in which he grew up.
I should also point out that he is a moderate republican, in a strongly republican district. If he loses the primary, the other republican front runner is Vern Buchanan, who has stated that he believes women should never be allowed to have abortions, zero exceptions, “period.” Hudson at least feels there should be exceptions when the life of the mother is in danger and when the pregnancy is a result of rape, incest or abuse. He also supports practical solutions for illegal immigration, he wants a guest worker program, while Buchanan wants to build a wall. Tramm Hudson is, in short, a reasonable guy who makes practical decisions and doesn’t just toe the party line.
I don’t agree with all of Tramm Hudson’s politics, as I am an anti-forced-birth, secular humanist, but trust me, one place we do agree is on race, and Tramm Hudson is not a racist.

August 17th, 2006 at 6:20 pmwhy is there not one single African-American in the Republican Party in Congress or the Senate?
Blackwell, Steele, and Swan are running for high office. I’m sure you will support them.
August 17th, 2006 at 6:21 pmthe Bush Administration continue to push racism
How is the Bush administration pushing racism?
August 17th, 2006 at 6:22 pmBush also said something stupid. He said, “Rummy, go invade Iraq.”
August 17th, 2006 at 6:29 pmMr. Big, are you some sort of affirmative action guy? Why don’t you support people for what they stand for, not who they are?
That is reverse racism to vote for Lynn Swann or Michael Steele just because they are black.

August 17th, 2006 at 6:35 pmThat is reverse racism to vote for Lynn Swann or Michael Steele just because they are black.
Liberals are attacking them because they happen to be black. Dems will lose votes if African Americans start voting Republican. They have a lot to lose. Thus, liberals smear Swan, Blackwell, and Steele. Steele is an orea, liberals say, because he is a Republican.
August 17th, 2006 at 6:36 pmAnd don’t think they’re off the hook any more than your boys.
They’re not off the hook. But it would nice to see some liberals here call the Dems stupid for their votes.

August 17th, 2006 at 6:39 pmAnd Ann Coulter says Maxine Waters should be working at McDonalds.

August 17th, 2006 at 6:40 pmOh yeah. The Democrats that were cowed into voting for BUSH’S WAR were pathetic dupes. I would vote everyone of them out of office. But, I wouldn’t mind tossing the old noodle into Mary Landrieu before voting against her.

I wonder if thats what he meant by “other opportunites”?
August 17th, 2006 at 7:16 pmHe has never apologized to Sidarth. He has issued statements covering his ass. George Allen said when he was young he was sensitive to the troubles that blacks suffered.

August 17th, 2006 at 8:47 pmBush isn’t funny. Funny looking maybe, but not funny.

Nope. They’re just not funny people.
Which is odd considering they’re a joke.
August 17th, 2006 at 8:51 pmSorry guys, I am gonna side with the dumbass on this one.
August 17th, 2006 at 8:52 pmBut what is funny is on the day of this NSA wiretapping ruling, all the cable news shows like Scarborough and Paula Zahn How?are talking about the Ramsey killer.
August 17th, 2006 at 8:55 pmThen what are all those black people doing in the public pool down the street?
They’re not drowning so I am assuming they’re swimming.
August 17th, 2006 at 8:58 pmIn fact, on any summer day in DC I see lots of black people at the pools.
And there are plenty of beaches back here known to be more popular with african Americans, like Sandy Point in MD.
August 17th, 2006 at 9:02 pmSo while I think the world of you Spudge, I have to disagree to some degree.
I understand what you’re saying, and its a stereo type that I am sure most black people will laugh at.
But the problem, is its a stereo type.
And while we can laugh at them on TV, the last thing we want to see is them coming from our elected officials.
But I do agree with you about the severity of it, and it is not as serious as what George Allen said.
August 17th, 2006 at 9:05 pmIf Carlos Mencia says it, then its funny.
But if someone running for a position of power where he will be capable of making laws?
Nahhh.
Don’t want to hear it from him.
August 17th, 2006 at 9:06 pmBut, the same can be said about me except, I like to swim and I don’t like spiders. I don’t like to ski, because I don’t like the snow and I love fried chicken and watermelon.

August 17th, 2006 at 9:06 pmYes, and you can probably find a lot of public pools in inner cities around the country that have lots of black folks swimming, but in my experience for 36 years of living with and having friends that are black, most of them do not swim, etc. (list above). I also said, that I live in Soutern California. Maybe it is more like Alabama than I thought. Hmmmm.
August 17th, 2006 at 9:08 pmThat is why I said:
You know I’m not racist and don’t condone using stereotypes. I am just making the case for this not being as bad as George Allen’s macaca offense.
August 17th, 2006 at 9:11 pmHow about Karl Rove? You have to admit he looks like that Linus from the Peanuts comic strip.

August 18th, 2006 at 12:05 amAs I pointed out yesterday, regarding the statement made by Sen.
August 18th, 2006 at 12:40 amStupid is as stupid does, rickd. Both parties have their “winners,” and most them wouldn’t know a decent apology if they heard one.

August 18th, 2006 at 12:55 am105.
August 18th, 2006 at 1:07 amWell, his mouths still moving. But does that truly qualify as life?

Yea, but the problem is the left are not passing legislation thats hurting the minorities. The right is no friend to the african americans in this country, and never have been.
Or did you think it was democrats blocking the entrances at southern colleges to keep out the black students?
August 18th, 2006 at 1:13 amSee, the right LOVES to talk about stereotypes, but as soon as we stereotype them, they cry foul.
They say racist things all the time, then cry when anyone points it out.
“Lets move on” is what we always here.
So quit yer cryin.
Conservatives make up our racists in this country, not liberals. Thats a stereotype thats also factual.
August 18th, 2006 at 1:18 amThe dirty little truth about the conservatives are they are buy and large racist. They believe whites are superiour to all other races, and they believe Christians are superior to everyone.
And therein lies most of this countries, and probably this worlds problems.
August 18th, 2006 at 1:19 amZoo…still there?
August 18th, 2006 at 1:20 amNow perhaps, borrowing from Coulteresque tactics, we could resolve the issue by merely neutering all republican males over the age of 13. See its the mix of testosterone combined with the omnipotence fixation that starts all the trouble.
Republican women, (except for those with high levels of testosterone like Katherine Harris or Barbara Bush) don’t cause near as many problems.

August 18th, 2006 at 1:24 am111.
The Original House Version:
* Democratic Party: 153-96 (61%-39%)
* Republican Party: 138-34 (80%-20%)
* Democratic Party: 46-22 (68%-32%)
* Republican Party: 27-6 (82%-18%)
The Senate Version, voted on by the House:
* Democratic Party: 153-91 (63%-37%)
* Republican Party: 136-35 (80%-20%)
I see that in all cases, the Republicans supported that legislation in a greater percentage than the Democrats. Again, if I’m not mistaken, didn’t Al Gore’s father actually vote AGAINST that act in 1964?
I am interested in hearing what it is you think the right has against the black population in this country.
August 18th, 2006 at 1:25 amI’m kind of inclined to agree with those who are saying not to flog the hell out of this one.
Senate.

August 18th, 2006 at 1:31 amLook, if you honestly think its liberals out dragging blacks behind pickups in Texas, then ok.
Be stupid.
August 18th, 2006 at 1:32 am116. Very true. When someone says “I’m sorry if YOU’RE offended”, that is not an apology at all. I didn’t follow the Allen issue that closely to know if he in fact did one of those types of apologies. If he did, then he needs to either apologize correctly or bear the brunt of criticisms.
August 18th, 2006 at 1:33 amAnd btw mr google, here is some background on the passing of the voting rights act, taken from the same wikipedia page you took your stats from.
I know you meant to include that so I did it for you.

:|
August 18th, 2006 at 1:49 am119.
August 18th, 2006 at 1:58 am111 (again). In answer to your question “Or did you think it was democrats blocking the entrances at southern colleges to keep out the black students?”, my answer - Yes. See George C. Wallace - Governor of Alabama (Democrat), and Democratic candidate for President 1964, 1972 and 1976.

As I told you before, Robert Byrd is about as liberal as you are.
And as for the 14 hours?
It was an 85 DAY filibuster LED by CONSERVATIVES.
Nice try though.
August 18th, 2006 at 2:14 am124. No need to yell!
August 18th, 2006 at 2:14 amBut I’ll give you the Wallace one.
Although Wallace was no liberal either. Which is why they shot him.
August 18th, 2006 at 2:15 am85 day filibuster.
Is that a lot?
August 18th, 2006 at 2:16 amBut he did come to his senses and apologize for his earlier position, which kind of brings us full circle on this thread, the idea of apologies. And with that, I must leave and catch 2 hours sleep before getting up for work….nice chatting with you.

August 18th, 2006 at 2:21 amAnd BTW. I used to LIVE in West Virginia. And it is NOT a liberal state. West Virginia is primarly conservative, and they vote Byrd in because the right never opposed him much, because the conservatives in WV love him.
Course this year he could be saying bye bye to that seat if the repuggies have their way.
August 18th, 2006 at 2:23 amOk. Well come around again. You have some facts at least for a righty.
August 18th, 2006 at 2:26 amDistorted as they may be…
August 18th, 2006 at 2:26 amif I’m not mistaken, didn’t Al Gore’s father actually vote AGAINST that act in 1964?
Comment by rickd — August 18, 2006 @ 1:25 am
Uh, I don’t think Al Gore even had a father, did he?
August 18th, 2006 at 2:32 amI am interested in hearing what it is you think the right has against the black population in this country.
Comment by rickd — August 18, 2006 @ 1:25 am
That my friend is the question of the century.
August 18th, 2006 at 2:33 am134. Albert Gore Senior. Senator - Tennessee
August 18th, 2006 at 4:36 am135.
August 18th, 2006 at 5:17 amIn the Sentinel interview, civil rights leader Andrew Young was asked about whether he was concerned Wal-Mart causes smaller, mom-and-pop stores to close.

August 18th, 2006 at 12:25 pmIf Mr Big is saying we need to put Barbara Boxer and Al Gore in leadership positions, he may have a good point there.
August 18th, 2006 at 2:14 pmIt’s sad to see all the vitriol spewed over this, Tramm Hudson is actually not a racist.
