‘Preliminary Lessons’ of the Israeli-Hezbollah War.

A report prepared by military analyst Anthony Cordesman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies attempts to draw early lessons from the conflict. David Corn highlights an interesting portion: “One key lesson that the US badly needs to learn from Israel is the Israeli rush towards accountability.”

I’m sorry, i’m not familiar with this word… accountability? What does this mean?

  2. The DLC are Frauds says:

It’s that Jewish entitlement complex. It should have been the end of Islam in 6 days with the direct and personal aid of the almighty. Only now the Israeli soldiers are wondering what went wrong…

  3. Spudge_Boy says:

    Accountability and Bush.

And never shall the two meet.

  4. the fly-man says:

From a pure Government bureacracy viewpoint I think it’s not a realitive question. Think about it , there are 300 million people in the US and there are only 7 million Israelis. But I guess it’s not the size of your government that matters it’s the magic in it. I think as the population of this country grows older, more time needed to solve problems will become a new entitlement program. You know let’s let your kids deal with the soultion.

The biggest mistake they made was letting the Bush Administration plan and dictate the course of the battle for them. If there is a lesson in there for the US it is this: get the hell out if things start going badly.

  6. Ajay says:

In Bush’s world, accountability means going to “Papa Bush” for help.

  7. Zimzone says:

I’m the Divider, not the Decider
You just knew at the G8 summit, when Condi
said we’re not going to do anything for a couple
of weeks & later made the infamous ‘I think what
we’re seeing is the birth pangs of a new middle east’
dumbass statement that W’s boys were running the
Israeli show. Now they all have egg on their faces.
By the way, Condi likes hers over-easy, but W still
likes scrambled. Cheney, poached. Rummy’s fried.
Which came first, the Neocon or the Lie?

  8. GSD says:

Big sticks don’t work on small enemies.

Time to get of the Neo-con “show ‘em your tough” bandwagon before it is too late. Israel has already lost face.

    Heckuva job Ehud.

  9. Zippy the Other Pinhead says:

“Accountability” — that’s one key lesson the US needs to learn from the Israelis’ problems in Lebanon. Don’t count on that happening, though — it’s not in the shoot-em up cowboy playbook that guides the actions and inactions of BushCo.

So in this war-by-proxy between the US and Iran, looks like the good guys didn’t win after all; Hezbollah comes out still a force in Lebanon, perhaps a bit banged up, but more politically powerful than they were even just a month ago. But that won’t stop the decider and his fellow Rovians from continuing to rattle the sabers at Iran, now will it? Consider it a lesson unlearned…

  10. Kermit the Freedom Frog says:

Easy, all we have to do is replicate our success in Iraq throughout the middle east.

How about bakers refusing to sell donuts to people more than 20 lbs overweight?

Sorry that comment was written for a different thread. Very sorry

  13. Grand Moff Texan says:

Accountability? Only terrorists want accoutability. If we can’t dumb down victory so that evey a loser like Bush can “win,” then the terrorists win!

No, no. There may be a connection after all. Maybe if donut shop owners stopped selling donuts to Karl Rove, he wouldn’t get on one of these crazy “let’s-kill-everyone-in-the-Middle-East” jags. You may be onto something. ;)

    TM Monkey,

Oh, me too – it happened in another thread.

Yeah, but they frogot the 2 missing soldiers…or wasnt all this mess for those two?

  19. Sharon Cox says:

Yep! it was Juan, and what has happened with that little item.? I havent heard a word about the kidnapped soldiers and only a tiny bit about the close to 1000 Lebonese innocents killed and 100= Israel lost…..Oh yah I heard Hezbollah was handing out thousands of US dollars to the survivors to help them rebuild…..And Israel and the bush bunch are handing out what.?..Just like Katrina victoms, it will be a cold day before bush’s promises are fulfilled….

Note to other posters that have had problems on this site….I figured it was my post slamming Israel for all the killing of innocents that got me booted and still haven’t heard from TP about why I was blocked…They are on vacation untill the end of the month though and may respond then……Blessings

This is Think Progress…as progressive as Israel would allow.

  21. WaltTheMan says:

    Juan C,
Can you see this post? – Second try.

  22. Pissed Off says:

I too have been very critical of Israel on this site and I too have had posts deleted; especially those that were frank criticisms. Can this site be monitored by AIPAC? Are our posts being archived on some hughe Krey comupter where Cheney and his co-horts are collecting information about every citizen of this country?

Lots to think about over the weekend. I think I will stop posting for a while.

Now on to the subject matter of the thread. The lesson to be learned is simple. This neo-con administration and its Zionist partners cannot dominate Middle East or any other part of the world.

Many have tried to build empires since the time of Alexander. Even Alexander having conqured all the known world failed to hold on to his empire because the indigenous people of the conquered lands rose up in rebelion and killed those Alexander chose to rule over them.

Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo; British were defeated in India, Hitler was defeated in Stalingrad and the Neocon/Zionist regimes were defeated in Lebanon.

If they got Hizbollah out of South Lebanon that would be a win, probably better than any prisoner swap. I imagine the UN went to Israel and said you may not get your guys back, but how about if you don’t have to worry about rockets hitting your cities. I’m sure Israel would jump on that deal, and to heck with “winning”

  24. BillShea says:

The Huffingtonpost which is supposedly wide open blocked my postings every time I referred to the Israeli government as the Nazis of the 21st Century. Most people in the U.S. can’t differentiate being anti-Israel and anti-semetic.

  25. Sharon Cox says:

Well in response to posting or not because one’s info may or may not be monitered I will post……If I am booted off again, Oh well..I would like to know if I did do anything wrong other than voice free speech……Oh I forgot I do say some nasty things about the administration, but that’s my right. I am after all one of their employers. May I add up front I want them all fired and put in jail.

I am against war’s..We don’t have diplomat’s now in office all we have are waramonging pit bulls that stir up everyone else and send our troops off to battle…Not one in this administration has the cahones to go to the front line, especialy the pupett drunk….Wish we could force them all to go into battle instead of our service people…Shame on our administration and country for what it has become under the bush regime……

As to Lebanon and Israel, as I have said before I didn’t use to be anti Israel, but, with the killing of 1000 innocent’s, leveling most of the country and working with dead eyed rice and bull shit bush I am totaly against their war like attitude. It was totaly over the top, pramoted. developed and backed by our dollars, bombs and bush.

Bet he is disapointed the world view didn’t sympathize with him and Israel. And most assuredly upset he will need another plan to nuke Iran….F***** up thinking at the lowest level. The crazy basterds act like sophmores in high school, don’t even talk to them or any of the neighboring countries except to threaten..

Here’s another thought I have had all along, I don’t know much about Hezbollah other than the bashing by the reich winged new’s jerks and frankly don’t want or need to but here’s my thought. It seems to me Hezbollah has been a benovelent benefactor to the Lebanon people..They live among them, work together, run a government with in a weaker country and it has been working some what for the lebanon benefit..Why would they want them out.? I woulden’t if I lived there….Given all the info, in bit’s and pieces since this mess started everything was a set up backed by bushco to try an end run to Iran……..Now we have the latest new’s Hezbollah is giving away millions the the Lebanon people to rebuild……And the invaders and distroyers are doing what.?

I don’t want any funds going to these wars against weaker countries that have done us no harm and don’t supply them with bombs either….War’s should be for self defence, and only as a last resort…….Diplomacy and valed negotiations should be worked at first this would not include supplying bombs for mangos…….G.D. Dumbasses……..Blessings

The politicos side with the money – and Israel has the money – they get it from the US Congress – and then they funnel it back into the pockets of? The US COngress. For a price. The price is armaments. IT’s an old scam – around for several millenia – laundering money, bribery, and racketeering.

When are the American people, and especially the conservatives who claim to HATE big government, going to wake up and see that BushCo and the corporate GOP and the corporate Dems are basically racketeering fronts. Our country is run by organized crime.

What’s it going to take for reasonable people to get the message. The emperor is not wearing any clothes, and he’s a crook.

This “copy cat” poster has also submitted this material under my screen name on other threads. TROLL MITIGATION

I just sent a note to the site management asking them to establish an upper limit for suggestions to any particular thread. I recommended the number of contributions be limited to maybe five or seven per thread. Perhaps that number is too small, but I don’t think it needs to be much much larger for any legitimate user to express their views. Having a rather comprehensive knowledge of server software, I believe this would be the most expeditious method to bring this troll problem under control.

If you agree that this would be a useful method to clean out these viscious trolls, then send a comment to the management using the CONTACT US link. If enough of us agree to a accept a minimal degree of limitation, then we can greatly improve the quality of the dialogue with minimal restriction. In my opinion, having a forum for intelligent, open-minded discussion is just as important as the advance political information we receive from this site.

I truly appreciate the efforts of the Think Progress team to create this kind of site. My intent here is to make it better.

    Sincerely yours, stonehinge
