Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) asked about a military strike on Iran. “Some in this administration want some excuse to take military action,” Hagel said. “That would be disastrous, catastrophic. It would enflame the Middle East in ways we can’t imagine today.”
Ah….Chuckie…..Mr. Talk Big, Carry No Stick Whatsoever.
I’m sick of these Republicans spewing this crap, then turning around and supporting the Prez at every turn. Hagel–shut yer top hole.
August 18th, 2006 at 12:30 pmWho’s gonna be the last to die in Iraq?
August 18th, 2006 at 12:32 pmSome might say that Republicans love to kill people.
August 18th, 2006 at 12:39 pmYes mr.Hagel , let’s first demand a prompt withdrawal from Iraq , then some accounting in the process leading to the war and them impeachement of this administration and you probably can run for president with a good chance to win . The country is HUNGRY , NAY , STARVING FOR LEADERSHIP WITH GUTS AND VISION .
August 18th, 2006 at 12:45 pmM-O-O-N.

Considering that he’s the only Republican in the Senate even talking about it, and it’s not as if he’s trying to win over the people of Nebraska, I’m willing to give him credit for it. I think it’s a good thing for Hagel to say something publicly that might give other Republicans cover to come out and say the same thing.
August 18th, 2006 at 12:50 pmI’m glad to hear someone from the rep. side of the isle speaking up now instead of being herded like sheep. There will be more moderates speaking out and the nation is ready to hear from them.
August 18th, 2006 at 1:02 pmLet’s see if he backs his words with action this time, instead of backing off again.
August 18th, 2006 at 1:19 pmHe has spoken out before, then just towed the line afterwards, following what Bush wants like a puppy dog.
Grey Eagle,
Do you watch Venture Brothers?
ShiddyButt,
Do you read Stephen King?

Take a look at Iraq and multiply that a couple of times. See, not that hard to imagine at all.
August 18th, 2006 at 1:38 pmNope , i only read the financial pages . The country is going into a tailspin deficits and the dogs are feeding at the war trophs, drooling blood. The realism of Iraq is enough for me . We are in deep shit .
August 18th, 2006 at 1:39 pmCut n’ runner!
August 18th, 2006 at 1:47 pmLets stop and put another captain at the helm. Iran would be a big mistake, why do we ever support the ignoramous neocons.

August 18th, 2006 at 1:57 pmGrey Eagle,
There is a character called Dr Orpheus who is always melodramatic who says things like:
“Young men have hormones coursing, nay, raging through their veins!”
August 18th, 2006 at 2:02 pmWell then, he can vote against it and see if Bush gives a cr*p. Methinks Bush is going to do this without Congress. Let’s see if they have the b*lls to impeach him. NOT!
August 18th, 2006 at 2:14 pmWouldn’t it be great if there was a law that would implement a draft the relatives of Congressional lawmakers and their staffs who support going to war. We’ll just see how much of a sacrifice they’re willing to make then. But sadly they’re cowards. All of them.
August 18th, 2006 at 2:22 pm15. Sorry – wrong thread.
August 18th, 2006 at 2:26 pmThe prez, ignorant as he is, was on CNN this morning bragging about the economy.
One thing he forgot to mention when he was talking about how strong it was – that is the faact that the gross domestic product FELL in the second quarter of the year to a mere 2.5%, a fall of 3 points from the first quarter.
And do you know that since he has been in office he has created over 5 million jobs? Hellfire bushietail, Clinton did that in two years!

August 18th, 2006 at 3:38 pmThat would be disastrous, catastrophic. It would enflame the Middle East in ways we can’t imagine today.â€
hagel must be talking about his support for israel and its criminal activities in killing innocent civilians of a sovereign nation and destroying its infrastructure. In addition he didnt object to his country rushing munitions to the zionists to continue these war crimes. What an ignorant dope.
August 18th, 2006 at 4:31 pmSince the neocons are so gung-ho on war with Iran, they and all their supporters should be the first to die there.
August 18th, 2006 at 5:36 pm“That would be disastrous, catastrophic. It would enflame the Middle East in ways we can’t imagine today.â€
That really stopped you supporting war on Iraq, right?
August 18th, 2006 at 5:40 pmHagel is showing more principle than some Democrats who are still backing HoJo. The only good thing though is these cowardly Republicans will not attack Iran because that would cause a draft. They are all for something when there is no pain.
August 18th, 2006 at 9:14 pmWow! A lot of you are being awfully hard on Sen. Hagel. When Congress gave Bush the authority to go to war, I would bet most of them voted yes as a show of unity and strength after 9/11, never thinking the crazy s.o.b. would go ahead and do it. I know a lot of you thought at the time “What on earth were they thinking?”, as I did. They made the mistake of trusting the Bush admin. to use good judgment–I never made that mistake (but, alas, I have no power except to vote and then who knows what happens to my vote after I leave the booth). I knew Bush was nuts, and frankly, I don’t think he is going to be able to finish his term. He seems to be going downhill fast. Did you catch Joe Scarborough’s bit “Is Bush an Idiot?” Seems Bush’s brain (the one between his ears–not Rove) is deteriorating at a rapid rate.

I agree. The truth is that the majority of the Democrats also voted in favor of the Iraq Resolution AND also voted favorably for the recent resolution supporting Israel in the Israel-Hezbollah war. The majority of Democrats also voted in favor of both the original Patriot Act and the reauthorization as well. Only a minority of the Democrats have opposed these from the beginning. Being a registered Dems myself, I have been frustrated with my own party’s lack of a back-bone for a long time now.
As for Sen. Hagel, while I disagree with many of his votes, the man has been labeled a “liberal” by conservatives (remember the PBS survey by the guy Tomlinson hired?). He’s been speaking out against this war, and many of the Bush foreign policy behaviors for some time now. He’s one of the few Republicans I have any respect for.
August 19th, 2006 at 10:43 amIt is long past time for Congress to remember that the Constitution limits responsibility for declaqring war to CONGRESS. The president has no right or responsibility to start a war. We must DEMAND that both Congress and the president to uphold their oaths to protect and defend the Constitution. Anyone who does not want to take that required responsibility should not run for congress.
