Let’s see, Roosevelt rolled up Hitler’s Industrial Germany, Mussolini’s Fascist Italy and Imperial Japan in less time than Bush has taken to hamstring the US military in Afghanistan with a group of religious zealots living in caves and in Iraq with a “handfull of dead-enders”.
Boy, those Bush/Coulter Republicans talk a good game, but it appears that they are inept and unable to deliver.
All hat, no cattle.
At least we get to hear internet trolls who talk about “crushing” and “killing” other liberal internet posters.
And Jerry, quit claiming that liberals say “Death to America”, and quit saying that liberals are opposed to fighting terror. It is a lie to say these things. Democrats overwhelmingly supported bringing down the Taliban for harboring OBL and Al Qaida. Democrats overwhelmingly want OBL brought to justice, whereas Bush doesn’t seem to care. Your arguments are built entirely on straw men and false dichotomies, and your comments are filled with slander.
Jerry, Invading Iraq which had absolutely NOTHING to do with 9-11 is makes about as much sense if FDR invaded Mexico in retaliation for the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour. And it’s just as useful.
DAMN!! These trolls have absolutely NO common sense much less ANY logic.
#10 is just another example of a Bush supporter lowering the bar for their guy. Not as many killed as WWII! We’re slightly better than Saddam for Iraq!
We have all been mis-understadicatin’ our Commander-in-Chief’s adopted Texicate accent. He hasn’t been saying “Stay the course.” He’s been sayin’ “Stay the Coors!”
Former Generals: Bush Must Negotiate to Make America Safer
by Aaron Glantz
Twenty-one former generals and high ranking national security officials have called on United States President George W. Bush to reverse course and embrace a new area of negotiation with Iran, Iraq, and North Korea. In a letter released Thursday, the group told reporters Bush’s “hard line” policies have undermined national security and made America less safe.
And how many soldier, airmen, marines, and civilians were killed during wwII
Comment by Fascinated by the stupidity
That’s one of the most stupid comments I have ever read — and that’s really saying something because I’ve been reading “Jerry” on a different thread. You must be fascinated by your own stupidity.
Georgie has taken longer than WW II to screwup Iraq and still hasn’t “won”. Everything he does takes forever and he screws it up so bad everyone has to bail him out. Can you imagine him going to the bathroom, must take weeks and hundreds to wipe his butt.
#5, Jerry. This post isn’t about the War on Terror, which, if fought with military force will be infinate. This thread is about the War in Iraq. That’s a totally different war.
#10 - Stupidity - if your inane comment is supposed to make anyone feel better about the War in Iraq, it failed miserably. You showed no grasp of the historical context of both conflicts and no compassion for the young men and women needlessly shot to death or blown to bits in Iraq. Your smarmy little comment is about as appropriate as the War-Time President Bush giving the Chancellor of Germany a suprise neck rub.
Our goal in WWII was to defend the free world from the Axis powers and safeguard democracy. Dubya & Company’s goal in Iraq is to demolish the country and establish a permanent American military presence.
In WWII Italy, Germany and Japan surrendered. In Iraq, there has been no surrender. Even now Saddam Hussein claims to be the legitimate leader of Iraq.
To understand, imagine if you will that China overruns the United States and arrests Bush and Company, instills a puppet government and puts Bush on trial for international crimes against humanity. Yet the United States never formally surrendered to China. The American people would engage in a similar armed insurrection which would last until China left.
Such is the situation in Iraq. Staying the course means more of what has been going on the last 3 years, with no let-up and no resolution. Either we do what Nixon did in Vietnam, declare victory and leave, we resort to committing genocide, or we continue this war forever.
With this crazy man in the White House who was advised to lawyer up I think Bush should just resign. As for other world leaders I suggest they military up because Bush might just invade any country now that he has caused chaos around the world. Iraq once the riches country in oil now has to buy oil. Israel invades Lebanon because Hezbollah stood strong and like the bible David and Goliath this time Israel was Goliath and Hezbollah was David. With the in your face win by Hezbollah and the world wide support it was only a matter of time for Bush/Israel to become sore losers. Notice Holy Joe still can accept the fact he lost. Bush has made the Middle East stronger. How many Americans knew about Hezbollah before Israel invaded Lebanon, now their like Paris Hilton. Bush is a great PR man for the terrorist he really makes people take notice and makes sure everyone around the world knows their name.
I say two thumbs up for Lebanon and Hezbollah job well done and God had to be on their side again the powerfull United States and Israel.
How about we count the countries involved in the conflict.
WWII: 25
Iraq: 2
If the job got done when all those countries around the globe were involved in a war then how come a country the size of Texas can’t be controlled in the same timeframe.
Your stupid arguement not mine.
Dlet, you need to refine your numbers, but the headline compares the days in iraq. I’m sure the timeline could have been cut if we had been a little less indiscriminate of who, what, and when we carpet bombed the entire country… better yet, turn it into a large glass parking lot.
dlet thanks for proving you have nothing of intelligence to say about anything. Tell your supervisor at 7-11 you really need your job as you cant possibly work anywhere else.

Thanks for dlet and the rest of us right yet again, FBTS.
The number of deaths in World War II and Iraq cannot be compared at all. During World WAr II, if you had a leg blown off, you would bleed to death most often than not. We didn’t have the medical capabilities to save somebody had half of their head blown off. Guys who got gut shot died horrible agonizing deaths.
To make a comparison between how many people died in World War II and Iraq is just plain stupid and shows there comparer to not have any military experience. It would mean that you haven’t got to see “the movies” yet or “the pictures.” And if you don’t know what movies and pictures I am talking about, then it also shows a lack of military experience.
So what happened to the Germans in the military when they saw that Allied forces approaching? They dumped their uniforms and joined with the German citizens. What will the Bush traitors do when they see that they can no longer control Americans with their lies? They will drop their nazi uniforms and join with the American citizens. Only thing is… because of the illegal NSA spying on Americans, we know who they are so we can find them and then string them up, side by side, from a big oak tree.
jerry - so this is where you migrated to. Nice to hear from you again.
Now jerry, my neighbors’ son came home in a coffin draped with a flag. How do I tell them that the “sacrifice is worth it.’? How do I convince them that “stay the course” is the right option when they lost the most precious person in their lives? I need to know what to tell them? Are you ready to fight in Iraq and return in a coffin draped in a flag? How come you are not willing to fight in Iraq? Isn’t the sacrifice worth it?
Coffins, I’m sorry about your neighbor. It REALLY sucks big time. I know, I lost some friend & neighbors in Vietnam. I was stunned when I first heard about their deaths when I was in high school at the time, only a couple of years before I was drafted too.
Coffins, I’m sorry about your neighbor. It REALLY sucks big time. I know, I lost some friend & neighbors in Vietnam. I was stunned when I first heard about their deaths when I was in high school at the time, only a couple of years before I was drafted too.
#41 Audie - what are you talking about? You must be a fool, a cold hearted fool to make that kind of a statement. Better hope no one that you love returns in a coffin draped in a flag. What goes around, comes around. It’s the #1 rule of life.
You must hate Americans to make that kind of remark. You must hate our military to make that kind of remark. Obviously, there isn’t anyone that you love or that loves you in your life.
#46 - it was that anti-gay religious nutcase protesting. You on the other hand was celebrating the loss of an American because your godless president turned his back on your cousin and decided that the oil in Iraq was worth the sacrifce. Now go back to your world of hate…where you belong.
Ho Chi Minh - have a good evening. I’m going to go read a book - Conservatives without a Conscious by Goldwater conservative John Dean. I’m sure I’ll find Audie’s name somewhere in that book… probably in the same chapter with traitor Rove, shooter Dick Cheney, the Scooter, insaney Rumsfeld and Ricky the Rooster Sanitorium.
#49 Coffins, Happy reading. I want to read that one too. Read an except from alternet of it the other day. Dean called today’s conservatives authoritarians(read:fuhrer principle) and that it constitutes their prevailing thinking and behavior. He also said that they are the enemies of freedom, anti-equality, antidemocratic, highly prejudiced, mean-spirited, Machiavellian, power-hungry, and amoral, and capable of plunging this nation into disasters the likes of which we have never known. Dean also called them contemptible and dangerous.
It is not something Dean made up, this is a pyschological issue, condition, however you want to phrase it.
What is amazing is how the American people have bought into this idea (ideal??) of the Authoritive Figure.
It’s really a must read.
Ho Chi Minh,
Sorry to get you all upset, was merely stating he was WH Counsel.
Thought it added more punch to the trolls than “Goldwater Conservative.”
Didn’t mean any offense.
Any attempt to compare WW II to Iraq is akin to comparing Filet Mignon to grits. Both have pluses in their own way, but some people would favor one over the other (veggies excused). I was only five when WW II concluded, but, I remember the sacrifices and contributions were made at every level of society – from the richest to the poorest. Each and every of my grandparents’ (Both sides) issue, male and female, served in that war as did the sons and daughters of many politicians of the time. During that period, I and my cousins were mainly raised by our grandparents. Some politicians even set aside their careers in order to serve. Why are greed and power such a motivating factor in today’s world?
I’m sure the timeline could have been cut if we had been a little less indiscriminate of who, what, and when we carpet bombed the entire country… better yet, turn it into a large glass parking lot.
Comment by Fascinated by the stupidity — August 19, 2006 @ 7:42 pm
Stupid. you show a basic lack of understanding of the universal laws of nature. That which you wish for others will be visited upon yourself. Are you truely willing for your neighborhood to be carpet-bombed, or, worse yet, turned into the glass parkinglot?
I only mourn for the innocent lives lost by the ignorance of those of your ilk.
Baltar, show us evidence that Hizbollah are Fascists.
The more people like you toss out unfounded allegations, the more I tend to support the goals of Osama bin Laden. He struck out against the economic (twin towers), military (pentagon) and political (white house, alleged target) might of the United States; forces which have killed or enslaved thousands, if not millions around the globe. If you do not understand what motivates a Bin Laden, you will never be able to attain peace short of destroying all life on earth.
Zooey, zooey, zooey. If your stupid enought to compare the number of days, lets compare the number of deaths….. your stupid argument, not mine.

I saw the movie today, and I must say it was dreadful, but so fun. I laughed through most of the movie. When Samuel L. Jackson got to his inevitable line, we stood and cheered! The audience consisted of University students, which is always the best audience for this type of movie.
Then again, some say, “On December 7, 1941, following the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, the United States declared war on Japan. Three days later, after Germany and Italy declared war on it, the United States became fully engaged in the Second World War.” http://memory.loc.gov/learn/features/timeline/depwwii/wwarii/wwarii.html
And the article linked to which started the thread stated “The war in Iraq has lasted three days longer than US involvement in World War II. ” In other words, the five days mentioned above is a typo.
However, Zero does have a point. The article cited to only mentions to the end of hostilities in Europe and against Germany.
Thus a more accurate statement would be that Bush and his “coallition of the willing” has been fighting a war of agression against Iraq for three days longer than it took the Allies to defeat Italy, Germany and their European Allies.
And we have so much more potent weapons now than was available 60 years ago.
As the article said, “In case you’d forgotten, George W. Bush declared “Mission Accomplished” aboard an aircraft carrier over three years ago.
“In the battle of Iraq,” Bush said, “The United States and our allies have prevailed.”
… the United States didn’t declare war on Japan until 12/08/1941.
Then again, some say, “On December 7, 1941, following the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, the United States declared war on Japan. Three days later, after Germany and Italy declared war on it, the United States became fully engaged in the Second World War.†… That would put the start date as 12/11/1941.
The way I figure it, to be bombed and have the Pacific fleet sunk (at Pearl Harbor, 12/7/41) was to be pretty darn fully engaged. After that, the actual declarations of war were only a formality.
There are two reasons that the war in Iraq is not going to end any time soon.
1. The Iraqis don’t want it to end. They know that if they “stand up†and the US soldiers leave, the money from the US pouring into that country will eventually stop. They don’t want their sugar daddy to leave. They will milk this for every penny they can.
2. Military contractors, including Halliburton, don’t want it to end. They are making a lot of money on this war. Stop the war and the money stops.
The only way that the war is going to end is for the US to give the Iraqis a deadline for departure. Once they realize that the sugar daddy is moving out then you will see them standing up real fast. We can not be expected to baby-sit the Iraqis forever while they have a civil war.
We have been in Iraq almost as long as we fought World War II. It’s time to give a deadline and leave.
AP Investigation Finds More Than 80 Military Recruiters Disciplined for Sexual Misconduct
By MARTHA MENDOZA
AP National Writer
“More than 100 young women who expressed interest in joining the military in the past year were preyed upon sexually by their recruiters. Women were raped on recruiting office couches, assaulted in government cars and groped en route to entrance exams.”

i can agree with most of what you say, EXCEPT for this:
The Iraqis don’t want it to end…the money from the US pouring into that country will eventually stop….
who are “they”?… surely you don’t mean “the people”, cause it’s obvious that THEY are not benefitting from any of this…
the crime is that the contractors ARE…
To Jerry - My favourite was Dickie Pearl’s statement that within a year of the invasion they would have a square in Baghdad with a statue of Gorge Bush and named after the man who served his country in the Vietnam period in his own way - unlike that fraud Kerry.
#79, Zero, then why didn’t you say that in the first place? Your post #61 came across as a nit-picky attempt at discrediting the topic of the thread instead of expressing a difference in opinion over which date to consider the actual start date of the United State’s full involvement in WWII.
Bottom line, WWII ended when the Axis powers surrendered. Anybody seeing Iraq surrendering within our natural lifetime? So far, the only plan for victory put forth by Bush is “stay the course” for as long as he is President. He seems to be quite content to let thousands of people die just so He doesn’t have to admit He screwed up.
(Briseadh:) Your post #61 came across as a nit-picky attempt at discrediting the topic of the thread instead of expressing a difference in opinion over which date to consider the actual start date of the United State’s full involvement in WWII.
Discrediting the topic? No way. I just thought the numbers didn’t include the last three months of WW II. My bottom line (so to speak) was: Not exactly, but we’re pretty sure to get there yet.
It hadn’t even occurred to me to consider a start date other than Pearl Harbor; that’s why I didn’t say that in the first place.
86, You’re right about it not including the last 3 months. I was just saying how your post sounded. I’ve heard 90% of communication is non-verbal. However, on these boards, verbal is all we have. That makes it easy to mis-read someone’s intent.
#29: I’m sure the timeline could have been cut if we had been a little less indiscriminate of who, what, and when we carpet bombed the entire country… better yet, turn it into a large glass parking lot.
Bush never wanted a short war. All he thinks about is getting the taxpayers’ money to his friends in the Defense Department. Don’t call this a war on terror. The Chinese government terrorises its people and Bush can’t even open his mouth because he does exactly the same! History will prove the US to be wrong… again.
[…] Wow. That’s a really remarkable fact - and frankly a pretty blunt criticism of the ineptitude of the Bush Administration’s execution of it’s policy. […]
Not really. It just shows that liberals will try to make some artificially made up metric to push their anti-Bush agenda. While formally declared WWII hostilities between the US and Japan/Germany only went from Dec 41 to Aug 45, Roosevelt was sending men and machinery under lend-lease agreements and expeditionary forces to Europe and Asia as early as 1939. After the end of formal hostilities, we militarily occupied Japan until 1952 (and Okinawa until 1972). We also formally occupied Germany, and didn’t release the last of over 100,000 Nazi sympathizers from prison, until 1955. At the beginning of both occupations, a significant amount of “Payback” was delivered to both Japanese and Germans. So ANY attempt to compare 4 years of OIF with 16 years of WWII in terms of time, numbers, bodies, costs, is completely off the mark and this thread has no relevance except to make liberals find anything to justify their reason for being. Time to move on to another one.
wow. how long has the war been going on in afghanistan?
August 19th, 2006 at 3:48 pmAnd in World War II, we were actually fighting a world war, instead of occupying an oil rich country.

August 19th, 2006 at 9:34 pm#41 Audie - what are you talking about? You must be a fool, a cold hearted fool to make that kind of a statement. Better hope no one that you love returns in a coffin draped in a flag. What goes around, comes around. It’s the #1 rule of life.
You must hate Americans to make that kind of remark. You must hate our military to make that kind of remark. Obviously, there isn’t anyone that you love or that loves you in your life.
August 19th, 2006 at 9:38 pmThanks, Ho Ch.
August 19th, 2006 at 9:39 pmBs… I attended a funeral three days ago for a distant cousin killed in afghanistan. Was that you and ho chi protesting?
August 19th, 2006 at 9:44 pmAudie (as in Murphy?) No, I never protest at funerals, totlally tasteless. I DO have SOME class, and my standards
August 19th, 2006 at 9:52 pm#46 - it was that anti-gay religious nutcase protesting. You on the other hand was celebrating the loss of an American because your godless president turned his back on your cousin and decided that the oil in Iraq was worth the sacrifce. Now go back to your world of hate…where you belong.
August 19th, 2006 at 9:56 pmHo Chi Minh - have a good evening.
August 19th, 2006 at 10:02 pmCoffins,
Great book.
It was really interesting.
Recently saw V for Vendetta. Saw quite an unnerving similarity (or at least the beginnings of) with this Administration.
August 19th, 2006 at 10:09 pmWorth renting.
August 19th, 2006 at 10:12 pmBTW,
John Dean was White House Counsel to Nixon.
For him to say these people have no conscious is saying a lot!
August 19th, 2006 at 10:13 pmHo Chi Minh,
It is not something Dean made up, this is a pyschological issue, condition, however you want to phrase it.
August 19th, 2006 at 10:16 pmWhat is amazing is how the American people have bought into this idea (ideal??) of the Authoritive Figure.
It’s really a must read.
Trueblue, I’m fully aware of who John Dean is, and I agree that he more than anyone, knows what these people are like.
August 19th, 2006 at 10:23 pmZooey, Coffins, Trueblue, Bones, & Woofie(Mr Worfeus-I hope you don’t mind). I’m calling it day.
August 19th, 2006 at 10:26 pmHo Chi Minh,
August 19th, 2006 at 10:36 pmSorry to get you all upset, was merely stating he was WH Counsel.
August 19th, 2006 at 11:34 pmStupid. you show a basic lack of understanding of the universal laws of nature. That which you wish for others will be visited upon yourself. Are you truely willing for your neighborhood to be carpet-bombed, or, worse yet, turned into the glass parkinglot?
I only mourn for the innocent lives lost by the ignorance of those of your ilk.
August 19th, 2006 at 11:40 pmBaltar, show us evidence that Hizbollah are Fascists.
But perhaps that is your goal.
August 19th, 2006 at 11:45 pm1,249 days: the length of the ongoing war in Iraq —five days longer that the U.S. involvement in World War II.
Not exactly, but we’re pretty sure to get there yet. By my calculations (using Foxpro):
From 12/07/41 to 05/08/45 (V-E Day) was 1248 days.
From 12/07/41 to 08/15/45 (V-J Day) was 1347 days.
From 03/19/03 to 08/19/06 has been 1249 days.
If anyone spots a mistake in any of the above, sing out!
August 20th, 2006 at 12:00 amZooey, zooey, zooey. If your stupid enought to compare the number of days, lets compare the number of deaths….. your stupid argument, not mine.

So what? Would you be kind enough to compare our military’s budget to Iraq’s?
August 20th, 2006 at 12:49 amHi j,
Motherflucking? I’m thinking of ducks…
I saw the movie today, and I must say it was dreadful, but so fun. I laughed through most of the movie. When Samuel L. Jackson got to his inevitable line, we stood and cheered! The audience consisted of University students, which is always the best audience for this type of movie.
August 20th, 2006 at 1:49 amZero,
Well, for starters, the United States didn’t declare war on Japan until 12/08/1941.
August 20th, 2006 at 1:49 amBriseadh na Faire,
Details, schmetails….
August 20th, 2006 at 1:51 am:)
Zero,
Then again, some say, “On December 7, 1941, following the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, the United States declared war on Japan. Three days later, after Germany and Italy declared war on it, the United States became fully engaged in the Second World War.”
http://memory.loc.gov/ learn/ features/ timeline/ depwwii/ wwarii/ wwarii.html
That would put the start date as 12/11/1941.

what a dead dead day here at tp… idiots abound, however.

August 20th, 2006 at 1:57 am‘aafd
Stupid cat!
Anyway, I’m off soon, too.
August 20th, 2006 at 1:59 amAnd the article linked to which started the thread stated “The war in Iraq has lasted three days longer than US involvement in World War II.
Somebody forgot to tell the Iraqis.

August 20th, 2006 at 2:27 amBriseadh na Faire @ 65 and 67 –
… the United States didn’t declare war on Japan until 12/08/1941.
August 20th, 2006 at 4:40 amThere are two reasons that the war in Iraq is not going to end any time soon.

The Iraqis don’t want it to end…the money from the US pouring into that country will eventually stop….
who are “they”?… surely you don’t mean “the people”, cause it’s obvious that THEY are not benefitting from any of this…
August 20th, 2006 at 11:43 amthe crime is that the contractors ARE…
To Jerry - My favourite was Dickie Pearl’s statement that within a year of the invasion they would have a square in Baghdad with a statue of Gorge Bush and named after the man who served his country in the Vietnam period in his own way - unlike that fraud Kerry.

August 20th, 2006 at 12:24 pm#79, Zero, then why didn’t you say that in the first place? Your post #61 came across as a nit-picky attempt at discrediting the topic of the thread instead of expressing a difference in opinion over which date to consider the actual start date of the United State’s full involvement in WWII.
Bottom line, WWII ended when the Axis powers surrendered. Anybody seeing Iraq surrendering within our natural lifetime? So far, the only plan for victory put forth by Bush is “stay the course” for as long as he is President. He seems to be quite content to let thousands of people die just so He doesn’t have to admit He screwed up.
August 20th, 2006 at 1:40 pm(Briseadh:) Your post #61 came across as a nit-picky attempt at discrediting the topic of the thread instead of expressing a difference in opinion over which date to consider the actual start date of the United State’s full involvement in WWII.
August 20th, 2006 at 3:31 pm86, You’re right about it not including the last 3 months. I was just saying how your post sounded. I’ve heard 90% of communication is non-verbal. However, on these boards, verbal is all we have. That makes it easy to mis-read someone’s intent.
August 20th, 2006 at 4:39 pm#29: I’m sure the timeline could have been cut if we had been a little less indiscriminate of who, what, and when we carpet bombed the entire country… better yet, turn it into a large glass parking lot.
So, is this what you’re proposing?
August 21st, 2006 at 12:10 amBush never wanted a short war. All he thinks about is getting the taxpayers’ money to his friends in the Defense Department. Don’t call this a war on terror. The Chinese government terrorises its people and Bush can’t even open his mouth because he does exactly the same! History will prove the US to be wrong… again.
August 21st, 2006 at 4:25 am[…] 1,249 days:the length of the ongoing war in Iraq — five days longer than the U.S. involvement in World War II. […]
August 21st, 2006 at 8:37 am1) The last WWII soldier didn’t stop fighting until 1974, hiding out in the philippines.
2) We are still “Occupying” both Germany, Japan, and the former Yugoslavia.
August 21st, 2006 at 9:28 am[…] Wow. That’s a really remarkable fact - and frankly a pretty blunt criticism of the ineptitude of the Bush Administration’s execution of it’s policy. […]
August 21st, 2006 at 9:54 amNot really.
August 21st, 2006 at 10:36 amIf you take the whole of World War 2, (Sept. 1, 1939-Sept. 2, 1945), then we still have 945 days to go.
