Number of words the current issue of TIME magazine devotes to Judge Anna Diggs Taylor’s ruling that President Bush’s warrantless domestic wiretapping program is unconstitutional.

1,109. The number of words in the same issue on the extradition of John Mark Karr. (HT: Bill in Portland Maine)

Time Magazine: What ever they think sells.

Me, I’m glad they got that guy (Assuming he really did do it!) but I think coverage of Gov’t Abuse is also important…

  2. Jesus Christ God of War Says:

Just keep us entertained. Don’t bore us with details about how our nation is no longer the Land of the Free. Thanks “liberal” media!

  3. Your Conscience Says:

Makes sense. Gotta provide retard sustenance for the intellectually challenged who still fawn over a HISTORICAL COLLOSAL FAILURE. 52 million Americans are just that dumb

  4. semanticantics Says:

Well, some wacko who THINKS he killed Jon Benet is clearly 3,168% more important than the NSA wiretapping.

I’m sure Karr is a sick, twisted ****, but I doubt he killed Jon Benet. In fact, now that I think about it, the Terrorists probably did it.

  5. DrSinker Says:

Well, JonBenet is a lot more important to the majority of Americans. If only I were being sarcastic.

  6. Willy Says:

I can’t believe all the press that Karr is getting. Apparently Americans must idolize him. The U.S. is really looney.

  7. Steve53 Says:

Let’s put that rag out of business.

Here’s a good political cartoon along these lines.

I switched to Newsweek after many years of subscribing to Time - just could not take the poor coverage anymore.

Anthing on Natalee Holloway? C’mon … I wanna know!

  11. purvis ames Says:

I’m starting a new reality show called, “So You Want to be Famous!” On the first show there will be five contestants who all confess to the abduction and murder of Miss Holloway. There are some restrictions.
    1. Must never have been to Aruba, any other Caribbean island, or northern South America.
2.Must have no idea what Holloway looks like.
    3.Must have an airtight alibi.
If you meet all these qualifications, you too can be famous!
You must confess to Barbara Walters, Oprah, Geraldo, Fox News, CNN, and any network with low ratings. You MUST NOT confess to the police.
The winner is the conrestant who actually gets arrested. Break a leg!

  12. G.W.SuperChrist Says:

American media seems to have the attitude that death to brown people is unfortunate - but death to white people is unacceptable… maybe if one of the countless numbers of “collateral” deaths in Iraq was a little white girl our press would finally start holding the President accountable for his actions?

  13. KId Clu Says:

What the NeoCons will be saying next……”If only the NSA wiretapping had been in place 10 years ago… Poor liitle JonBenet would stiil be with us today.”

thank you for posting that cartoon…it is quite perfect.

This is why Democrats have to buy balanced coverage.

  16. The Oregonian Says:

Maybe one of the reasons that a large number of Americans felt such a kinship with George Bush for so long is due to the fact that so many of them have the same level of intellectual curiousity as the President. This post lends might lend some credence to this possiblility. We are a nation of voluntary imbeciles.

  17. The DLC are Frauds Says:

    I AGREE!!!

Most people never think to look behind the curtain… they just assume that if it’s on TV it must be important and if it’s not then it must not be… they never stop to consider that there are people that make these decisions… and that these people have certain selfish interests that aren’t always aligned with the greater interest of the country!

Uncurious, non critical thinking, morons should not be allowed to vote or breed!!!

#6 - The American media and most of the American people are two distinct populations in the United States. They rarely tell us anything we care about.

  20. &y Says:

    Typical.

I know much was said about how little time the network news devoted to the wiretap ruling. But I did a Nexis search for transcripts and read one of them (ABC World News with Charles Gibson, Aug. 17, 2006)–completely absurd and unbalanced. Martha Raddatz reads a bit from the ruling, the plaintiff gets two sentences… then Gonzales, Bush, an unidentified man (supportive of Bush), and a guy from the Heritage Foundation (representing “many national security experts”) all pile on and the segment is over.

If I knew more about copyright law, I’d be tempted to post the whole transcript. But I don’t, so I wont. Maybe Media Matters covered this. I should have checked before I started typing. But I didn’t.

The last two elections are evidence to the contrary… if they were not stupid they would not have voted for a stupid person to alleviate their fears!

In that same issue there was this:

Wonder if they’ll ever hook bushes ass up?

  26. TripMaster Monkey Says:

    G.W.SuperChrist sez:

The last two elections are evidence to the contrary… if they were not stupid they would not have voted for a stupid person to alleviate their fears!

They didn’t…the 2000, 2002, and 2004 elections were stolen (as was the 2006 Presidential election of Mexico), and the groundwork is laid for 2006. This November, the neocons will steal the election exactly as planned.

The question is: what will the American people do about it?

  27. AnAmerican Says:

    #25

The American people aren’t even vigilant enough to demand verification for their electronic votes…we, probably deserve the neocons winning the elections.

  28. nostrafarious Says:

TIME is no better than People magazine. They haven’t gotten it right in decades. The only sad thing is that there are probably a significant number of people out there that still think different.

  29. katy Says:

Thank You Judge Anna Diggs Taylor

This website was launched to offer support for the Honorable Anna Diggs Taylor. We feel she is yet another example of a great American patriot and civil servant working to protect the rights we all cherish.

  30. G.W.SuperChrist Says:

25 - TripMaster - Even if they flipped 10% of the votes that still leaves 50,000,000 idiots that voted for Bush… that’s a lot of idiots!!!

But I do agree that this election will also likely be stolen and the American public will do and care very little about it… there is not enough room our collective hearts for Democracy and John Bene Ramsey… guess who wins that contest?

  31. Zimzone Says:

Apparently TIME has become the pedophile’s magazine of choice.
Never mind that we have a President committing felonious crimes
on his watch, but ‘what did he do to that girl?’
This may be the most important mid-term vote in the history of the
USA. It would seem unconstitutional acts by our White House would
    be front page news.
Liberal media, my ass…they’ve all become tainted by FUX news and
    tabloid headlines.
But, the media & the American voters are two separate entities. Let’s
hope truth makes a difference in November.
And Loserman, go find Big Dick. He needs a kiss, now that W admitted
Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

There are no copyright laws that apply to “news,” it’s all in the public domain.

  33. Impeachcheneythenbush Says:

This bullshit is simply one more example of the results of allowing the consolidation of media resources in this country. Where the hell is “Teddy Roosevelt” and the anti-trust/anti-monopoly people when we need them the most?? The so-called “liberal media” is the biggest Orwellian twist on reality ever. These news exectutives need to be marched to the same wall as the other traitors currently in power.

    Comment by katy — August 21, 2006 @ 2:53 pm

Katy – While I am behind her decision 100% - I don’t know if it is such a good idea to make a big deal out of it. Since upholding the constitution is the primary function of judges - I feel that this should be treated more or less as just another day at the office.

The Republicans have spent the last couple of decades trying to politicize the judicial process and we have resisted… but if we start acting like this was a political decision and not one that is necessarily mandated under the constitution - we start to add credence to the idea that judges should be loyal to party or ideology first and then the constitution second.

I think we should treat this like it was the only decision that even a half assed competent judge could have arrived at… not an extraordinary decision but one that is not only expected but mandated under the constitution.

  35. Republicans Are The Fear And Smear Party Says:

It’s the dumbing down of TIME magazine…to make it more like PEOPLE to reach that lowest-common-denominator audience.

  36. Joe Sixpack Says:

I’m glad they got that guy (Assuming he really did do it!)
    Comment by S.D.

Yeah, and he is probably the one who leaked Valerie Plame’s name to the press. Time and the rest of the media pundits needed a good read to take up the slack after the Israelis pulled out of Lebanon. Talk about slight of hand. The President’s non-existant foreign policy has the world going to hell in a hand-basket, and the media makes a big issue about some creepy mental case whom we all know had NOTHING to do with the Ramsey murder.

    What a crock.

  37. trueblue Says:

    Hey, Joe Sixpack!

    Long time, no see!

    Glad you’re back!

  38. Cyra Brown Says:

When questioned about the ’star treratment’ being given the ’suspect’, the response was that they were hoping to get him to ‘talk’. Hmmm… the current Administration would certainly disagree with that notion, given their embrace of torture as the preferred method of gathering evidence and information. Maybe if the police have no luck, they can ship him to Gitmo for futher ‘questioning’.

  39. Retired Republican Soldier Says:

How many words should they devote to her rant/ruling? The rant/ruling cited no precedent, ignored those on the books, and gave judges a bad name. She should be glad that she can slither off without much notice or someone might just call for her removal from the bench.

  40. Five of Diamonds Says:

A brain-dead population is easier to manipulate.

Warrantless wiretapping is legal, do not ask questions, obey.

  41. Five of Diamonds Says:

The rant/ruling cited no precedent, ignored those on the books, and gave judges a bad name.

    Comment by Retired Republican Soldier

Your first two points are incorrect. Your third is subjective and likely misinformed by your political lean. Incidentally, thank you for your service.

  42. Jake3988 Says:

Actually, there’s 48 words. But, its still pathetic.

  43. katy Says:

…I think we should treat this like it was the only decision …
    Comment by G.W.SuperChrist — August 21, 2006 @ 3:24 pm

very good logical points, g.w.s.c…. would that we could…
    these are special times after all… and then there’s #40 - r.r.s.

i just put it out there for those who felt inclined…

  44. Zooey Says:

    #40 - RRS,

What do you think of the cartoon put up in #8? Tell us if it makes you feel proud.

  45. Jason M. Hendler Says:

We’ve been over this - the mainstream media does NOT want Americans to know that a liberal activist judge is preventing federal agents from preventing the next 9/11.

NOT TO WORRY - FOX NEWS has covered this story extensively, so that conservatives understand what is happening and what is at stake, so they turn out on election day.

  46. Jason M. Hendler Says:

    #47, blah blah blah,

That activist judge’s ruling WILL be overturned, and Bush’s executive powers will be restored.

  47. Zooey Says:

Jason, you are just gone. Too bad, really…

  48. Cyra Brown Says:

Now if he would just STAY gone. “Misery” really does love company. “Company” however, does not return the feelings. Perhaps “Misery” is his middle name, as it starts with an ‘M’.

  49. Jericho Says:

I should have known when TIME proclaimed Bush person of the year in 2004. A better title would have been ‘worst president ever re-elected by silly, scared Americans’. TIME is getting as fair and balanced as Fox News it seems.

  50. Glo Says:

    Time magazine is Time-Warner-AOL.

Frankly, most readers of Time fall into the same category as those reading People magazine. They are just too dumb to understand the issues of the US Constitution, so, why should Time write about it?

  51. tQzqRMx8GE Says:

Hi! Very nice site! Thanks you very much! bgExhohsiId
