When the grownups retake control of our government it is clear that there will be a lot of messes to clean up. Not the least of which would be dealing with recruiters like these.
Not only have recruiters been advising potential recruits about how to pass a drug test, but now they’re assaulting would-be female recruits? The standards have fallen lower and lower and lower as the fiasco in Iraq drags on.
It is time for change! We must have new, fresh and capable leadership of our armed forces. Dubya, Dick and Rummy have proven that they are woefully inadequate for the job. We need a new Secy. of Defense, now.
I am still beholden to the idea that there should be mandatory service for an age group say 19 to 21. Similar to the Reserves. That way everyone in this country would have a stake in sending our children to war. Now I guess it would include sending mom, dad, grandma and grandpa.

Actually, I’m in agreement with you here. A bit like Israel, who mandates a tour of duty for all citizens.
That way everyone in this country would have a stake in sending our children to war.
Yes, and in addition, after about a generation of this, tomorrows lawmakers would look back on their service and be really careful about sending our boys and girls off to be killed.
If purely mandatory service rubs you the wrong way, make it optional, but one of the requirements of full citizenship. You can’t vote, take advantage of government programs, or hold any public office until you’ve done your tour.

And Joe makes three.
I mean, we are almost down to raiding the nursing homes for a few recruits. And that follows a military that has 1/3rd less people in uniform than we had in the 1990’s.
Just wait till those “commanders†have ‘em in the fox holes….
god only knows what these military perverts have been doing in Iraq………..
Since we are lumping all military into actions of a few (And yes it is a sick/warped few who if guilty need to be punished harshly) Makes you wonder what school teachers are doing to our kids (After all Karr was one)
What, now we sexually assault them over here, so we don’t have to sexually assault them over there? Well, at least this way, they aren’t also going to be trapped in the military, while they are being assaulted. Talk about adding insult to injury.
Bunch of idiots here. Nevermind the fact that the article is purposely misleading because it includes relationships as being preyed upon sexually, including those relationships started by female recruits, you now have the gall to attack all of military recruiting based upon actions by 80 people? Maybe I should now judge ALL of Islam as being fundamentalist bastards who subjugate women, blow up themselves, and advocate a world-wide Islamic theocracy.
We all know that’s a bunch of bullshit. We all also know that we can’t consider every black person as being a gangbanging homey because of the gangbangers. And they arguably account for more people percentage wise than the number of bad recruiters to the whole recruiting population do.
I don’t judge all left-of-center people by the crazies that call for killing Bush, 9/11 conspiracy theorists, and other assorted nutjobs.
18 – You totally misread me. Nice of you to jump to conclusions. I’m not a “neocon” and I’m not a “sex offender”. Good try though, asshole.
I’m not blaming the recruits. I still blame the recruiters. However it is not a legal issue. There is no illegality in a relationship between a consenting adult recruit and a consenting adult recruiter. It IS a policy violation, and it IS wrong, but it does not belong in the statistics that include rape.
19 – I guess you could call it backhanded. Or left-handed. However you want to look at it. My point was not all people that I disagree with on political issues are crazy and many are actually friends where we can discuss issues rationally. You cannot reason with people who honestly think George Bush is a moron, but is secretly a genius that can pull off 9/11 as a conspiracy against his own people and keep it a secret. He’s too stupid. I don’t like him any more than most of you.
Back to the topic – Recruiters do bad things, sure, just like everyone else in society. 80 events out of the thousands and thousands of recruiters, is 80 more than there should be, but is (shockingly) below the national civilian average for sexual assaults, and that 80 includes things that are not sexual assault. It’s more like 30. Less than 1% occurrence of sexual misconduct is well below the national average.
Thats just a preview of whats to come.
