“Nothing short of a miracle.”

– Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) on the “incredibly successful” U.S. efforts in Iraq, 8/22/06 (HT: SMP)

  1. Democratic Soldier says:

One can only assume that Sen. Inhofe is talking about some other Iraq, and not the one that borders Iran and that we’re currently quagmired in.

  2. DrSinker says:

For some, the cool-aid is particularly strong.

  3. Preznit Pinhead says:

Waiter, I’ll take whatever he’s been smoking.

James Inhofe is nothing short of an imbecile.

  8. nostrafarious says:

You would think the man would be too embarrassed to make such an outrageous statement.

  9. Grand Moff Texan says:

I’m sure that radical Shi’ite clerics agreed, right before they went back to chanting “DEATH TO AMERICA!!!”

See? You libruls don’t understand people of faith.

  10. Kermit the Freedom Frog says:

Sen Inhofe was of course referring to Iraq as described in an upcoming book by Michael Chriton.

  11. RealScientist says:

This illustrates the extensive damage to the brain that can be caused by long term denial of global warming.

  12. paul says:

And we have no draft … just a Marine Corps call-up; extension of tours, etc. The number of troops in the “ultra successful Iraq” is swelling. Must be all those open arms welcoming us; the administration just can’t get enough hugs.

  13. Vance says:

How is possible that no one has shot one of these retards yet?

  14. Briseadh na Faire says:

Great! Now can we call it a victory and get out!?!

  15. onthefence says:

Another in a long series of awesome revelations, this guy’s completely instanity has been well documented. He thinks 9/11 is God’s retribution because of the US restraining Israel, that the Red Cross is full of bleediing hearts.

    Here is my fav:

“I believe very strongly that we ought to support Israel; that it has a right to the land. This is the most important reason: Because God said so. As I said a minute ago, look it up in the book of Genesis. It is right up there on the desk. In Genesis 13:14-17, the Bible says: The Lord said to Abram, “Lift up now your eyes, and look from the place where you are northward, and southward, and eastward and westward: for all the land which you see, to you will I give it, and to your seed forever. . . . Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it to thee.” That is God talking. The Bible says that Abram removed his tent and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar before the Lord. Hebron is in the West Bank. It is at this place where God appeared to Abram and said, “I am giving you this land,–the West Bank”. This is not a political battle at all. It is a contest over whether or not the word of God is true.”

  16. Orwell1984 says:

PRAVDA is up and running I see and Imhofe is its managing editor.

  17. Jesus Christ God of WAR says:

#16 – …This is not a political battle at all. It is a contest over whether or not the word of God is true. [quoting Inhofe]

Well, this is what’s so special about the ReichWing. They are completely nuts. One of the hallmarks of being completely nuts is an utter lack of self reflection.

So Inhofe’s god is greater than… what? I can’t even believe he said that! It’s just so…. STUPID to even contemplate.

  18. Ho Chi Minh says:

WTF are these repugs smoking? Must be REALLY GOOD shit.

  19. hellinabucket says:

If God gave them the land forever and now they don’t have it, it must be God’s plan. Or does it say somewhere in the bible that if thoust land is ever taken by nonbelievers you shall be allowed to unleash any unholy hell upon them?

Gave them the land foever. Indians thought that way too.

  20. AkaDad says:

Iraq had Baghdad Bob, we have Sen. Inhofe(Theocrat-OK)

  21. Punchy says:

And there’s PLENTY of people right now, in America, nodding their heads in agreement.

    Now THAT’S what’s scary….

  22. Marie says:

This is the same idiot who says that UN forces in Africa are teaching girls how to be prostitutes.
Nostrafarious - these people don’t get embarrassed – they are totally insensitive.
How in blazes do these morons get elected?

  23. Jane E. Schneider says:

Okay, if Iraq has 275,000 trained troops, WTF are WE doing there?

  24. PLC (PatrioticLiberalChristian) says:

It’s such a “miracle” (a key word aimed at the right wing fundamentalist base) that Inhofe should take an “emmaus walk” (a spiritual journey, for all you non-Christians) across Iraq to contemplate and meditate on the wonderful harmony and unity there. Need help packing, there, Senator?

  25. Canuckistanian says:

It’s nothing short of a miracle that he manages to be a functioning human bieng, despite the lack of any hugher brain processes…

  26. Canuckistanian says:

It’s nothing short of a miracle that he manages to be a functioning human being, despite the lack of any higher brain processes…

  27. Impeachcheneythenbush says:

Inhofe has collected at least a million dollars in campaign contributions from the oil industry during his time in the House and Senate (1986 to the present). This guy is as dirty as they come, and his “Christianity” is the sheep’s clothing he wears.

  28. Ernest says:

ATTENTION Good Citizens of Oklahoma!!!!! I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again and I will keep saying it, YOUR SENATORS ARE A THREAT TO OUR NATIONAL SECURITY!!!!!!!!! Please, for the love of God, use common sense the next time you go to the polls. Please.

  29. Your Conscience says:

Sen. James Inhofe we are going to need a urine specimen……please go pee in this cup as we have to assume your back on the pipe.

  30. bones says:

I didn’t know the honorable gentleman from Oklahoma was an LSD freak, because that’s the only way you can get these kinds of hallucinations.

  31. Stefan says:

I watched Fox News the evening of March 20th, 2003. We won, dude.
You guys are still acting like there’s a war or something going on over there.

I enjoy taking big sensimilla hits off the skull bong with Jimmy Inhofe.

  32. budpaul says:

Here’s my take on Inhofe’s dumbness.

    America’s Least Wanted

  33. Steve53 says:

Perhaps the administration and it’s enablers were anticipating a quarter of a million Iraqi civilian deaths.
So, “only” 100,000+ deaths is “nothing short of a miracle”.

  34. Rebel With A Cause says:

I have my own private list of repuglican alcoholics in the house and senate. Pleased to note that the two senators topping the list both made assholes of themselves this past week. I refer of course to George Allen and Imhofe.

Neither hardly ever draw a sober breath. Its the booze fog they are talking thru folks.

  35. onthefence says:

I kind of miss Baghdad Bob.

Everytime he came on I smiled.

  36. Gay Bear says:

It seems there is no end to the “miracles” in Sen. James Inhofe’s life — the miracle of no homosexuals in his family; the miracle of no divorces in his family; the miracle of global warming not happening; and now the miracle of how well things in Iraq are going. Paging Katherine Kuhlman…

  37. beavercleaver says:

Well phuggin’-A, been just spefie! When you’ve got your head so far up Boo$h’$ ass, and your hand in the pocket of every dim-bulb voter ever known–takin the future away from their children’s children…then it’s been a helluva success. Dume’kauph!

  38. Wayne A. Schneider says:

I respectfully beg to differ. I did LOTS of LSD in college and I NEVER hallucinated that much! He must be on something stronger.

  39. sgt_doom says:

Any American, by this time over the last 6 years, who hasn’t figured out that the US Congress is filled with far too many idiots, morons, imbeciles (including the White House personel, of course) and perverts (especially “Man on dog” Santorum) doesn’t have the IQ of a doorknob. Most are there for those travel junkets.

  40. Gregor Samsa says:

What is nothing short of a miracle is that a man with barely an ounce of brain can breathe, walk, and talk.

What is nothing short of a miracle is that the same man can run for, and get voted into, a Senatorial office.

Seriously, how do these people get elected?

  41. Zooey says:

Seriously, how do these people get elected?
    Comment by Gregor Samsa

Are you kidding, Gregor? He’s dreamy…

    (ick, sorry)

  42. Jake3988 says:

One can only assume that Sen. Inhofe is talking about some other Iraq, and not the one that borders Iran and that we’re currently quagmired in.

Begs to be repeated. Couldn’t possibly have said it better myself.

This man does belly shots of kool-aid off a fat bloated pig.

  44. jurassicpork says:

Where’s the miracle? That we could kill over 100,000 people with just under $300,000,000,000?

Here’s another question: Were Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld ever young? I don’t recall a time when they were and I think I know why.

  45. JPark says:

Since when has anybody taken Oklahoma seriously? Really…tell me.

  46. data says:

For some folk the war went perfectly right. Haliburton and other defense company are rolling in bucco dollars. Not to mention the war has increased oil requirements thus pushing up prices. Even Iraq is importing oil…..

  47. Lady Luck says:

Oklahomans, get rid of this nut and vote him out of office!

  48. Vinilo Suave says:

#22 My best guess about why people vote for this moron is that is takes one to vote for one. My worst guess is that his voters prefer habits to common sense.

  49. Moogie says:

#48: Since when has anybody taken Oklahoma seriously? Really…tell me.

If Democrats don’t take Oklahoma seriously, they’ll never convince Oklahomans to vote for people who aren’t like Inhofe.

  50. Sweep says:

    #44: He’s dreamy…

I’d been curious what kind of guy you go for, Zooey. But I’m not at all surprised. Senator Inhofe would be quite a catch.

  51. NMC says:

Nothing short of a miracle on how we managed to royally screw this up.

  52. Keith Olberman is a j*ckoff says:

Can someone explain to me why people post in here about religious “reich” wingers, making reference to former Germany and Hitler. I wasn’t aware that Hitler was a Christian. Did the history books change?

  53. Keith Olberman is a j*ckoff says:

Oh, and just an FYI for all you non-history buffs……

The real Nazi’s from the SS were Socialists….just like 95% of the people who post in this message board. So next time you throw around conservatives as being “reich wingers”, just remember that Adolf Hitler supported the same economic structure that each and every one of you feel will better serve this country.

  54. Keith Olberman is a j*ckoff says:

And to prevent one of the “regulars” (you know who you are….I’m sure you will be in here tomorrow bright and early posting messages for 10 straight hours) from arguing my first post, Hitler was not a PRACTICING Christian. So please spare yourself the time in arguing that Hitler was born into a Christian family, baptized, blah blah blah like were so used to hearing.

  55. TheMank says:

response to Keith Olberman is a j*ckoff’

If you believe the things you write you are so ignorant you are not a worthy opponent . Hitler was a vehement professed Christian. He wanted the moral decay of Germany stopped and for them to return to their Christian ‘roots’.

Nazis? Socialist? Only if your understanding of history is limited to the ravings of Michael Savage. If the Nazis were striving for Socialism they would have cozied up to the Eastern European Jews rather than herding them into cattle cars and death chambers. Oh, maybe you don’t believe that story either, just another liberal fairy tale.

  56. jason baddo says:

a politician is only a reflection of his constituents. the question is do all of the people that voted for inhofe think insanely like him ? if so then we are in worse shape than i thought.

  57. Regis says:

Imofe is a certified nut. He needs to move to Iraq with Rep. King of Iowa.

  58. Ron Garrett says:

This is the same oil industry whore that says global warming is a hoax. Apparently lying for dollars doesn’t embarass him at all.

  59. Godfry Daniel says:

What’s a miracle is that the rest of the world hasn’t joined together to sanction us into complete bankruptcy and economic collapse as per the USSR.

  60. The Umbrella of Cherbourg says:

Inhofe makes charlatanry essential in his world of excesses, being one of the very dumbest members of the Senate and representing one of the very dumbest states, whose advance since ‘Grapes of Wrath’ doesn’t quite extend beyond 40 dusty, winter-wheat acres, just this side of the ‘God-Never-Sleeps’ Baptist Church, on the edge of the Cookson Hills.

But Inhofe is not the rube that common sense suggests. Just ask the Fox-loving, toothpick-chewing audience at his State Fair seminars where it’s said that
weapons of mass destruction will be found as soon as they look in the right places, like, according to Inhofe, the warehouse where Saddam kept his Sinatra records.

  61. beavercleaver says:

Hey jackoff~ Hitler was a christian–ya know, just like your daddy dubya is a christian. Come on bitch, know yer lines!

  62. Keith Olberman is a j*ckoff says:

Really……a christian? So did he kill 6 million Jews in the names of Jesus?

  63. Keith Olberman is a j*ckoff says:

So Hitler was a Capitalist? He believed in a free market economy with minimal government intervention? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense….

  64. Keith Olberman is a j*ckoff says:

Although wikipedia is often questionable, it couldn’t have described my point any better. Taken from the very first paragraph:

“Adolf Hitler was brought up in his family’s religion by his Roman Catholic parents. According to historian Bradley F. Smith, Hitler’s father, though nominally a Catholic, was a freethinker,[8] while his mother was a practicing Catholic.[9] According to historian Michael Rissmann young Adolf was influenced in school by Pan-Germanism and Darwinism and began to reject the Church and Catholicism, receiving Confirmation only unwillingly. A boyhood friend reports that after Hitler had left home, he never attended Mass or received the Sacraments.”

  65. Mad Dog Roy Earle says:

Hitler got bad press, it’s true. But if the Nazis had produced just one good musical comedy it might have been a different story.

  66. Jericho says:

If the US effort in Iraq is nothing short of a miracle, Inhofe must be nothing short of a brilliant mind.

  67. Duke Mantee says:

Re Hitlerian lore, yeh, a good musical with Storm Troopers and everything and with tunes you could hum. That would have changed things on the Western Front.

  68. just a thought says:

#69 “Although wikipedia is often questionable, it couldn’t have described my point any better.”

So, you question the veracity of the source, yet you are willing to accept this information as 100% accurate and supportive of your belief based solely on the fact that it agrees in some way with your preconceived notions? Hypocrite.

Second, Hitler’s speeches are rife with Christianity. Hitler DID attend churches as the leader of the Nazis. You are claiming to KNOW what was in his heart and mind. The FACT is that he may very well have believed completely that he was doing the work of the Christian God (etc.), and doing it well. Just because YOU do not agree with the methods he used to promulgate and display his faith does NOT mean that HE did not believe in it. You are judging (find any of the dozens of Christian Bible quotes about “judging others”, and see how they apply to you: you DO NOT KNOW what is in any other persons heart or mind, and for you to question the faith of another is for you to JUDGE another, and that with no evidence.) His actions he did justify under a cloak of Christianity. You do not want to believe that he was a Christian like yourself because that would be a black mark on your religion (though let’s not forget the inquisitions, crusades, conquistadors and genocide, witch hunts, etc., etc., ad nauseum).

And regardless of his true belief (which NO ONE can know), he DID present himself as a Christian, and harped on it in his speeches. At the LEAST, he was nominally and vocally a Christian (like this Administration and its supporters — do you support the war and killing of those darned Muslims? What would JESUS, your savior, say about that based on his teachings? If you answered that he would agree, you need to actually READ that Bible, and not just have it in the house as “proof” that you are a good Christian).

Oh, and p.s.: attending church, going to confession, receiving “the Sacraments”, et. al. have nothing to do with being a Christian…. they are the rituals of a particular religious organization. All one need to do to BE a Christian is to believe in Jesus as the Christ, and to try to follow his teachings in the manner one knows best (of course, a lunatic… like Hitler… may get the message wrong…… and in that regard, the fundamentalists, the Administration, and, really, the majority of Christians worldwide fail at BEING Christian. You, too, as you choose to JUDGE. YOUR savior says that there is only ONE who can judge a human, and it is not Bush… or Limbaugh… or Hannity… or Coulter…. or you….).

Do you question whether the terrorists are ACTUALLY Muslims? Do their actions reflect the teachings of the Koran? Do you know by having READ the Koran? What about ANY other person claiming to be Christian? Do you also question their religious belief? How about all the Christians (or so claimed) who never go to a mass and never receive any kind of “sacrament”. Are they, de facto, not really Christians?

  69. just a thought says:

#67 “Really……a christian? So did he kill 6 million Jews in the names of Jesus?

    Comment by Keith Olberman is a j*ckoff — August 23, 2006 @ 10:33 am ”

Sorry, I meant to add this in above: YES!!! That was his justification. Hitler killed the Jews and claimed it was his moral duty as a Christian.

  70. Cyra Brown says:

ooooooooooooooooOKLAHOMA! Where the wind goes sweeping through his brain! This onion head either has Dementia, or Early Onset Senility. take your pick. what he clearly doesn’t have is friggin’ clue. Tell it to the troops, Senator. In person. I dare you.

  71. JPark says:

#48 Have you met many Oklahomans? They are the buckle on the bible belt. Even the liberals are evangelicals. The Democrats will never win a thing in that state. Many of them are damned proud to be ignorant and damned proud to vote against their own interests. Do you actually believe you could get a state that votes for arch-wingnuts like Imhofe and Coburn to actually get their brain cells moving enough to actually vote intelligently?

  72. Black Athletes says:

I’d been curious what kind of guy you go for, Zooey. But I’m not at all surprised. Senator Inhofe would be quite a catch.
    Comment by Sweep

Thanks, Sweep, you really think so? My mama said I’d do well. How long have you been lurking and wondering?

Actually, to paraphrase james: I’d rather inspect Tony Snow’s colon for spiders.

  73. Zooey says:

Damn, I shouldn’t change my name to make a point. I always forget to change it back.
#78 was by me, and once again a joke has fallen flat on it’s face.
