#3 - I think ReichWingNuts should run on the “war” in Iraq. I’m sure people will let them know, in no uncertain terms, what they feel about Bushy’s little occpation.

  6. Zimzone Says:

I still find it hard to believe 1 in 3 Americans approve of Bushbag.
Either I’m naive, or we really do have that many assholes voting.

I guess the real way to look at it is 2 of 3 Americans want
us out of Iraq & W out of office.

    Hey, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.

Was British terror plot a load of crap?

Liquid explosives very difficult to make; Orange Alert a political move?

An article posted last Thursday in the British online outlet The Register raises a very good question I haven’t seen posed anywhere else, certainly not in our sycophantic American media: was the exposed British “plot” to bring down commercial airliners by mixing harmless household chemicals in the lavatory even remotely possible from the standpoint of basic chemistry?
To address that question, it’s worth quoting from The Register’s article:

“We’re told that the suspects were planning to use TATP, or triacetone triperoxide, a high explosive that supposedly can be made from common household chemicals unlikely to be caught by airport screeners. A little hair dye, drain cleaner, and paint thinner — all easily concealed in drinks bottles — and the forces of evil have effectively smuggled a deadly bomb onboard your plane. … Making a quantity of TATP sufficient to bring down an airplane is not quite as simple as ducking into the toilet and mixing two harmless liquids together.

First, you’ve got to get adequately concentrated hydrogen peroxide. This is hard to come by, so a large quantity of the three per cent solution sold in pharmacies might have to be concentrated by boiling off the water. Only this is risky, and can lead to mission failure by means of burning down your makeshift lab before a single infidel has been harmed.

But let’s assume that you can obtain it in the required concentration, or cook it from a dilute solution without ruining your operation. Fine. The remaining ingredients, acetone and sulfuric acid, are far easier to obtain, and we can assume that you’ve got them on hand.

Now for the fun part. Take your hydrogen peroxide, acetone, and sulfuric acid, measure them very carefully, and put them into drinks bottles for convenient smuggling onto a plane. It’s all right to mix the peroxide and acetone in one container, so long as it remains cool. Don’t forget to bring several frozen gel-packs (preferably in a Styrofoam chiller deceptively marked “perishable foods”), a thermometer, a large beaker, a stirring rod, and a medicine dropper. You’re going to need them.

It’s best to fly first class and order Champagne. The bucket full of ice water, which the airline ought to supply, might possibly be adequate — especially if you have those cold gel-packs handy to supplement the ice, and the Styrofoam chiller handy for insulation — to get you through the cookery without starting a fire in the lavvie.

Once the plane is over the ocean, very discreetly bring all of your gear into the toilet. You might need to make several trips to avoid drawing attention. Once your kit is in place, put a beaker containing the peroxide/acetone mixture into the ice water bath (Champagne bucket), and start adding the acid, drop by drop, while stirring constantly. Watch the reaction temperature carefully. The mixture will heat, and if it gets too hot, you’ll end up with a weak explosive. In fact, if it gets really hot, you’ll get a premature explosion possibly sufficient to kill you, but probably no one else.

After a few hours — assuming, by some miracle, that the fumes haven’t overcome you or alerted passengers or the flight crew to your activities — you’ll have a quantity of TATP with which to carry out your mission. Now all you need to do is dry it for an hour or two.

The genius of this scheme is that TATP is relatively easy to detonate. But you must make enough of it to crash the plane, and you must make it with care to assure potency. One needs quality stuff to commit “mass murder on an unimaginable scale,” as Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Stephenson put it. While it’s true that a slapdash concoction will explode, it’s unlikely to do more than blow out a few windows. At best, an infidel or two might be killed by the blast, and one or two others by flying debris as the cabin suddenly depressurizes, but that’s about all you’re likely to manage under the most favorable conditions possible.”

  8. e_five Says:

    Zzzzzz.

Bush could strip naked, kill a 5-year old blonde-haired girl in a wheelchair, and eat her flesh live on primetime national television and he would drop no lower than 30%. The next day, FOX News and the Washington Times would sell the story as “Bush Bravely Kills Potential Terrorist!”

  9. Jason M. Hendler Says:

CNN poll has Bush at 42%, so is TP cherry picking the data again? Moreover, the poll shows Republicans favored on terrorism, and since Hezbollah, and soon the anniversary of 9/11 will fill the headlines, that issue will be prominent on voters minds.

  13. Pampero Firpo Says:

Recall that is was then-President Reagan who authorized Rumsfeld to supply an Iraqi madman with WMD and pose for a shake hands photo-op.

    President Bush, today:

Today, I’m announcing that America will send more aid to support humanitarian and reconstruction work in Lebanon, for a total of more than $230 million.

    Slappy Hendler says:

soon the anniversary of 9/11 will fill the headlines, that issue will be prominent on voters minds.

Sad that a 30% chunk of Americans spend all of their time giving credit to Al Qaeda for changing America. You know, when you focus on the bombs and the explosions, that is just what Al Qaeda wants! That is what Bush says about Iraq.

But it is a different tune when the Bush/Coulter Republican Party wants to spend so much efforts on America’s greatest strategic failures.

Bill Clinton wrapped up the Oklahoma City bombers and now they are jailed or dead. What about the 9/11 plotters?

BCR’s(Bush/Coulter Republicans) Hooray for more terror threats, that will show the nation how dangerous the world is and then they will vote for US! Hooray for more threats and fears.

    Frigging pathetic.

  17. Randy Says:

You are not listening very well. It must be your exteme hatred for Bush that is getting in the way. Bush never said that Iraq and 9/11 were connected, but there is concrete evidence that Al Qaeda had ties to Iraq long before we took out Saddam. Bush did say that we would go after those responsible for 9/11 and any country harboring terrorists. Now, I still think that means that we’ll pursue Iran and North Korea and others if diplomacy doesn’t work. I’ll bet you believe that Saddam was just a nice guy trying to mind his own business before Bush attacked him don’t you?

  18. The Decider Says:

I’m tired of liberals trying to compare Oklahoma City to 9/11. Tell me O’smart one, what was McViegh’s reason for the bombing? I think you’ll find he was upset with something that happened the year before at Waco, which happened under whose presidency and by whose choice for AG?

  20. Jason M. Hendler Says:

    Aaaaawwwww GSD & Decider ….

You too are sensing opportunity slipping yet again through the Democratic Party’s fingers. Fox News reported that for every 10 children Dems have, Reps have 14, so every year that ticks by puts you farther and farther from the mainstream, as Reps simply out breed you. This means that all the little tricks you play trying to game the system have less and less effect. Eventually, you will have to change your positions to serve the majority of voters, or watch as Reps coast to victory year after year.

  21. Pampero Firpo Says:

America participates in both the destruction (arms supplies to Israel) and the reconstruction (sending aid) of Lebanon. I have to wonder, how much of our money will go directly to Hezbollah?

  22. Preznit Pinhead Says:

Quoth Osama: “I’m still free, how about you?” (think of this quote next time you stand in line at the airport security checkpoints for an hour or two before finally boarding your plane).

Well, that made no sense what -so -ever.
Again, why does Jason M Hendler hate America?

  24. Pampero Firpo Says:

Republicans having more children than Democrats will raise Bush’s approval rating and make his failed Iraq policies successful? Should the Republicans stay in power, how many of these “Republican children” will be willing to fight and die in Bush’s never ending war in Iraq?

The US also provided satellite photographs and battlefield intelligence to Iraq which it knew was to be used in “calibrating” Iraqi chemical weapons attacks against Iran. Furthermore, the US provided dual use helicopters, ostensibly for crop spraying, which intelligence sources believe were used to deploy the chemical weapons in Halabja

  28. TerrytheTurtle Says:

#12 - so if Iran and Syria are complicit in attacking Israel by giving Hezbollah weapons, the US is what exactly for supplying chemistry sets to Saddam in the 80s? Discuss.

Why should it matter to you “under whose presidency and by whose choice for AG” this happened? You’re a conservative, so you believe in individual responsibility. Right? Timothy McVeigh was responsible for his own actions, not anyone else.

  48. Jesus Christ God of WAR Says:

#45 - McVeigh was quoting Republican criticisms of Clinton chapter and verse. So one could say the Republicans are the Tim McVeigh party?

Further, knowing how the ReichWing LOVES to play the religion card, what of McVeigh’s own religion? Since is was a confirmed terrorist, shouldn’t we submit all Christians to the same kinds of security that the WingNuts are proposing for Muslims?

Why did Jesus hate America? Why did he allow Tim McVeigh to bomb OK?

  49. Retired Republican Soldier Says:

36%? So you the Dems should win ALL races come November, right? If they don’t at least win 64% then it should be called a disaster. BTW how are those 2006 races shaping up lately? Are the Democrats polling at 64% (against the Presidents 36%)? LOL Sure they are.

  50. Jason M. Hendler Says:

    #49, RRS,

Dems feel the opportunities slipping away:

    Global warming - no traction
    Katrina - no traction

Meanwhile, Bush’s numbers are rising in the polls, thanks to Jon Benet Ramsey!

  51. Retired Republican Soldier Says:

I heard that Bush’s number was up (not down) and I have yet to see a poll where a sitting Republican is trailing a Democratic challenger by any significant number. Even in Tom Delay’s District it’s looking more likely that a Republican write-in will win, despite the Dems attempts to keep everyone out of the race except Democrats. I guess those are the only races they can win, but maybe not (see Lieberman). It’s a long time until November and the Democrats have lots of opportunities to shot themselves in the foot a few more times. Maybe a hardy Dean Scream will rally the voter to the Democrat’s cause.
