The media is lavishing attention on Pat Buchanan and his new book that argues that whites are the only race with the “genetic endowments” to prevent America from collapsing.
Yesterday on Hannity and Colmes, Pat Buchanan asserted that Hispanic immigrants were “not assimilated into America” because they were adopting “rap culture.” Watch it:
Rap music, according to the U.S. State Department, is “an original American art form.” It has its roots, however, in African-American culture, not white culture. For Buchanan, apparently, that means it’s un-American.

BECKEL: Pat, you say in the Hispanic culture in the Southwest — it is a culture that will take over the Southwest and essentially make the Southwest of the United States part of America but not really part of America. Let me ask you this — the Irish and Italian came to New York and brought their culture here. Eastern Europeans went to the north-northwest part of the Midwest, the Germans and Scottish went to the Appalachians and brought their culture with them. What’s different?
BUCHANAN: One thing that’s different in the year 2050 there will be 102 million people of Hispanic descent, primarily Mexican, wholly concentrated in the American Southwest. That’s one thing. The second thing is Mexicans, unlike Irish or German folks, never claimed America as their country. They owned it. 58% of Mexicans believe the southwest belongs to them. The third thing is, they were assimilated. There powerful assimilation movement in this country that does not exist right now and in so the point of the thing is, they are not assimilated into America. Many Hispanics, as a matter of fact, you know what culture they are assimilating to? — the rap culture, the crime culture, anti-cops, all the rest of it.

Again, the former speech writer is only showing that he knows nothing about America. “Assimilation” is a myth. The fact is that different groups collectively produced American culture over time, contributing to its ongoing transformation.
It’s transforming again, but because it’s non-white, Buchanan thinks it’s a failure of “assimilation,” which never happened. As for “rap culture,” look at the lives of Irish-American immigrants in the late-19th/early 20th century in America’s cities and tell me it doesn’t look like a rap video.
Like most conservatives, Buchanan isn’t an American. He just lives here.

Don’t be fooled by Buchanan’s anti-war stance with Iraq. While many progressives (such as myself) are against the war because we care about the well being of innocent civilians in foreign countries, this is not so for Buchanan. His anti-war position doesn’t come out of compassion, but out of isolationism and xenophobia. Buchanan doesn’t want this war with Iraq because he supports a conservative isolationist doctrine, not because he actually cares about the innocent civilians in Baghdad.
For a while now I’ve been listening to other liberals say that they agree with Buchanan’s stance on the war, but that’s impossible for a true progressive. To agree with Buchanan is to agree with isolationism and xenophobia. Although he may be against the nocon agenda of imperialism and militaristic authoritarianism, he opposes it only because he is affraid of minorities and affraid of foreigners and affraid of the rest of the world. Buchanan is a racist bigot and I don’t want to hear any more “liberals” say they “agree with his anti-war stance”. Don’t confuse isolationism for compassion.

I’ve listened to people defend Buchanan on here saying that he’s not racist, that he bases his spewings on facts. The fact that started this debate is that he’s of the opinion that rap is in no way part of the American culture. Although defined by the state department as being uniquely an original American art form. Rap is predominantly an Afro-American art form. What conclusion’s should be inferred from what Buchanan said? It is quite easy to see how people can deduce that Buchanan is of the ideology that if it is’nt white ( or derived from whites) then it is’nt right. I think that it is reasonable for someone of any race to be offended. From my years in the Army I have learned that no matter how well you have done in the past all it takes is one goof to destroy your previous work. This man was allowed to come on a highly public forum to show America that there are powerful people still out there with that mentality, and they are publicly working to change the world around them to (dare I say it) assimilate to their view. August 24th, 2006 at 7:58 pmMr. Buchanan (and almost everyone else) seems to conveniently forget that the TRUE Americans are the Native Americans who lived here before the ‘white men’ ‘discovered’ their country (which was never lost in the first place-the idiots just mistook it for China)
Unless you’re descended from a Native American, your ancestors came here as immigrants (and that includes Pat’s; Buchanan is an Irish name, so I wouldn’t be surprised if his family came to Ellis Island after the potato famine). My own family came from England and Norway.
And really, it’s only recently that people have started kicking up a fuss about immigrants learning English and ‘becoming part of the American Culture.’ Before that, immigrants were strongly encouraged to all live in one area (they called them ‘ghettos’), especially if English wasn’t their native language. They were encouraged to stay as far away from legal, law-abiding ‘white’ Americans (even if the immigrants themselves were white) as possible.
Mr. Buchanan, and a good many other people, seem to forget that what originally made America what it is was the ethnic diversity. Anyone could come here and start over. So what if they want to speak their native language at home? How is they’re doing that hurting you? So what if notices have to be written in both English and Spanish. At the doctor I go to;s office they’re also written in Chinese, Japanese, French, Italian, Viatnamese, and half a dozen other languages) and it has yet to affect the quality of my health care.
Apparently, America is no longer a melting pot,, though a good many ‘real Americans’ are beginning to act like ‘crackpots.’ So by all means, let’s become more like Japan; a country where ‘foreigners’ are viewed with, at best, suspicion (and at worst, with out and out hatred). Given enough time (like Japan) we won’t even have to worry about putting our hair and eye color on our driver’s license, because everyone will look exactly alike.
An entire nation of blond-haired, blue-eyed, pale-skinned people. You know, I think someone already tried that, and it didn’t turn out well at all.

Someone wrote early on that he/she had the pleasure of working with several Hispanics. I have worked with Hispanics, Caucasians, Negro (please excuse the terminology but I would like to address ALL “black” individuals), Native Americans, Asians, those damned CANUCKS, etc, etc, etc. There are hardworkers and there are lazy asses but overall, there’s a good combination of both in every nationality. I don’t believe Mr. Buchanan is racist and thinks Hispanics are lazy lowlifes. I think he truly believes that the USA is already in a monetary deficit without adding illegal immigrants to the spendings. You see, PB is a nationalist but to close our doors to foreign affairs in this modern global economy would only promote the US as open target but relying strickly on the US economy and business would increase costs everywhere. Remember the Boston Tea Party and associated high tariffs. In today’s global economy it would be much worse, if not impossible to live without aide from fellow countries. This is while created NAFTA. To work with Canada and Mexico… you know, the people that are going to ruin our great USA by overpowering us eventually. Instead of the millions PB would like to see allocated to build this wall and protect the borders, could we not utilize those monies elsewhere such as allowing for simpler and faster immigration structures for aliens and more funding to the vast amount of failing programs? Mr. Buchanan sees one quite specific side, for better or worse, and thank god the majority of the population thinks he is a madman. I don;t think he’s mad. I just think he’s not looking to the future of our nation and the changes that are taking place as we speak. What would Perot say? He’s a world economic genius… my money is that he “HORSESHIT” the wall plan.

Yes there needs to be some plan of action on Immigrants into the country on even the basic principle of limited natural resources and partially that plan needs to include some action taken in foreign countries to set up infrastructures and systems that will enhance quality of life and security.

Now the only two examples I have truly shed to light in regards to our country not creating something of our own is the fact that we stole this land from another group of people and rather than US assimilate to THEIR culture (now there’s an idea) we slaughter these groups of people (Native Americans in case you forgot your education–you know the one that student loans pay for) and say that we have created this free land where all are welcome. Welcome, everyone, really? Then why was it so darn necessary to kill an entire race of people? If this land were ever truly a “free nation†then why was there a need to make, FORCE blacks as our slaves when we were too lazy to do the work our own? The other example that I brought to attention of our country not creating something of its own was our National Anthem, the fact that it is completely the SAME song (just different lyrics obviously–ok, so we created something) from a country where people fled from to escape being a part of a monarchy ran country…so you tell me WHY the founding fathers of this country who escaped such a way of life NOBODY wanted and then made that country’s anthem basically that of our own? Just a few pointers that my financial aid education taught me; you do not need to use an apostrophe when writing a word in its singular form, the word Hispanic should be capitalized, but then again you consider them un-American and therefore I see why you do not use proper punctuation for that particular word, the correct spelling for the word “appose” is “oppose”, again, the word “emmediately” should be spelled “immediately”. Are you sure you speak English and not Spanish yourself? Perhaps you need to read #179’s post again. Just a thought.
On a different note, please show me where I stated that you hate Hispanics. I think it’s interesting how your argument is so poor that you create meanings from what people post that has nothing to do with what they actually post. A SIMPLE ANSWER TO A COMPLEX QUESTION:
I would immediately secure both border’s to prevent even more non American people from entering illegally. Since deporting 20,000,000 people is financially impossible I would sift through the bunch and deport all who met a certain criteria i.e. gang members, those with any criminal record, those who have been here less than eight years, those who affiliate themselves with any radical hispanic movement that subscribes to the doctrine of Azlan, Laraza, etc., those who have not paid any income taxes during the time they have lived here, those who have abused any social services. Of course their may be more criteria than this but Im sure you get the point.
Keep the good and throw away the bad! Oh yes, and English is MANDATORY!
To remark on your description of me “anxiety and beligerant”: I am discriminated against on a daily basis by people who don’t even belong here. Every American needs to realize that rouphly 65% of these people feel NO love for America, and they justify this with exagerated and inaccurate accounts of history. They are actively and aggressively subverting! Subversion is a form of treason!
I speak spanish, and most hispanics assume that I only speak english because I am white. If you could here some of the things they say about America, and how they see America, it would probably disturb you too. They will take take take, but never give.
I have given jobs to some of these people, at a very good rate of pay, only to be betrayed via sabotage.
A large percentage of these people are not just “here to work”! They are here to take!

I think you’re thoughts, although rough around the edges to some, are legitimate. It is difficult to see individuals that blatently abuse the rights and programs Americans are granted and not feel animosity towards them. Unfortunately, many other nationalities, including us anglos, do the same thing. Yes, to some extent, sending individuals back that have broken US laws would be beneficial to America and those who work hard to protect it but how can the government do this, be unbias to each case, and not spend an exorberant amount of money? I don’t disagree with you, I just feel that in order to do this, the USA would have to approach this concept with the understanding that ALL individuals are accountable. This would get costly. Years ago I believed in the “wall”. The truth being, I had no idea of the amound of funding it would take to make this “wall” exist. I think now how sad life must be for these people; for mothers to risk their lives and those of their children to make the trek from Mexico to the USA in hope of a better life. I lived in California where I saw the abuse of the system that you spoke of. But I saw it with everyone, except, ironically, Asians. Considering the Chinese are the largest nationality in the world today, one would think they would be trying to infiltrate and take over different countries but no, they assimiliate to the USA’s rules and regulation which make them an inspiration to myself. But I digress… Can you give me an example of how this security measure can be instilled at a relatively low cost? Then, to take it a step further, is the USA going to eventually build a “wall” to the north? We didn’t during the French annd Indian War but is that because the English won? When Quebec hatred towards English-speaking people affected the states bordering Quebec and beyond, did America build a wall? No, but is that because we’ll put up with Canada and their “wacky” French because of their resources and, overall, relaxed attitudes? So, what makes this situation better than the Islams created havoc with the Jews? It’s a rough situation that people tend to racialize. What if I had an aunt that is single, continually seeking assistance from the government, never works and has 7 kids. Should the government export her back to Ireland? Germany? Russia? Or how about an African-American woman doing the same… Should she be exported back to Africa? You might say that they were born here so it is their right as citizens and I would tend to agree, but it seems unfair that because of the staunch custom regulations and poverty-stricken lifestyle across the border, that “wetbacks” who cross the border in search of a good life should not be entitled. Yes yes, I read what you had to say, but how many Hispanic women slave doing menial work under the table and go to hospitals for free because they can not afford the cost… all to support their children? I personally know many. If you open the can of worms in regards to sending aliens back home who are breaking rules, then you have to remember the other nationalities, prostitutes who don’t pay taxes, and others who do under the table dealings. Ah yes, but they would go to jail… where they get food, shelter, TV, books… etc. What of the families? There are even programs for the children. But what about the Hispanics? Do we, as a nation, look at this situation as deporting animals, not human beings?
It’s truly is such a controversial topic. So I ask, why not give them citizenship and then tax the hell out them like everyone else?

I would like to appologize to all for my periodic generalization’s. They were fueled by frustration. I know their are some good peope here from Mexico. From other places too. My closest friend is from Mexico, and he is beyond being worthy of respect. So I do know. However, when I wittness these bad things which I have already shared, I cannot help but feel negetive emotions. Hector had it right when he made reference to “If I were in his shoes”. We should put ourselves in the other guys shoes for a minute or two in order to get a better understanding of each other, and then clean some house together by deporting the bad apples.

The hiring of all the people in the neighborhood the I am in is now all Polish and Bulgarians, You would not beliee how many Polish and Bulgarians are now taking the jobs. Yes people say that the Mexicans are coming here taking the jobs, but they are not taking jobs away that American want. I have done research on all the immigrants that are allowed her and the American that we have know is now being taken over by Eurpoeans. They are getting all the jobs in the medical field the teaching fields and blue collar management positions. We have to hire them and give them medical (free) to their families. They are also collecting welfare. Or allowed to let their children come to schools and not have to pay for any fees. They are getting free rides and long with the jobs. Just because they are white people why are they allowed to receive the jobs and also free medical care for they families. What is good for one race should be the same for the other races. I have not been given the job I want because a Polish women wanted the job so she got it. What is so funny is that I was even told that they had to hire her because she is from another country that the Government wants to have on their side when wars is happening. She can not even speak English very well. I can Not understand why it is ok for Europeans to come and go as they please and get the jobs the American do want but can not get because they are coming here to take the jobs. I do not understand why this is not brought up. The only thing I ever hear is that Mexicans are taking these jobs. Not true. I tried getting a good job but did not. The position was given to a European. Please check and you will see that there are tons of Russians, Polish, and Bulgarians buying all this property and getting loans to buy the property and claiming they do not have the money to pay back the loan so they do not have to pay since they are not Americans. This really upsets me. I want to get a job but a Polish person gets it because we need Poland on our side. Makes no sence to me. Why do all these European countries hate Americans, But are allowed to come here and take the jobs. Go figure. What does everyone think about this? Makes me sick to my stomach. But we’re talking millions of people sneaking into this country without a background check, capital, skills for the job market and even the ability to speak the language of this nation. If you think that this huge flux of foreigners isn’t going to drastically change this country’s society-wise than your living in a dream world. If you think that huge influx of people living on welfare and using social services isn’t going to but a strain on the economy, if you think the economy can handle and provide enough jobs for all these people + natural citizens of this country than your living in a dream world. If you think that the USA can successfully assimilate people arriving this quickly and on this massive scale you are also living in a dream world.
